secretless- meaning without secrets
just like jumpless has no jumps, pacifist runs dont allow you to kill
i got the implication you wanted to do a run without secrets, which any% is but not everyone has to not do no secrets
the challenge would be in them not being allowed to do secrets
the game changes completely if you skip secrets
for example pistol start map09 without secrets gets harder
but if they want fast then yes they do have to no secrets cuz secrets take extra time
certain maps technically are impossible
i mean i suppouse, probably right here
but on the other hand i dont know how the routes for doom games look, they might potentially go for secrets due to useful items in there

If you’re using Woof, you can give yourself specific weapons with the WEAP cheat code. GZDoom I think has a console command that allows you to do that

brutal doom is pretty fun actually. make sure to play the v22 beta 3 or whatever because its really good
i prefer vanilla classic doom but brutal doom is a nice way to shake things up sometimes
although if you want a mod like brutal doom, i suggest quake 1.5 (now called combat+)
quake 1.5 is very fun, even if i do prefer vanilla quake.

brutal doom is fun. i wouldnt say its better than vanilla, but i would say it is fun and a nice way to shake things up so things arent too repetitive on your millionth time playing
bd is just,,, really underwhelming and unstreamlined compared to other mods
complex doom is overwhelming and unstreamlined so it's shit in a different way but i love it for that

yeah. there were never official sprites of 3rd person doomguy with other his actual weapons. The only difference is that the "gun" won't muzzle flash for melee attacks

People say E4M2 is the worst but I was able to complete that in 3 tries on my Steam Deck on UV
It’s not that difficult, all you just need to do for that map is to properly have a game plan in on how to route the map
It's not that I find the map difficult, but that it is uninteresting, and bland, all you do is run forward and avoid a few barons and cacos. I just see it as the worst map because it really just boring in my opinion

e4 not my fave either, it starts getting into what kinda makes sigil slightly lacking and sigil 2 even moreso
not enough enemy variety to keep the increasing difficulty interesting
I actually liked both Sigils more than E4
e4 and both sigils would be so much better if they had hell knights in doom 1
theres a distinct lack of a mid tier enemy in doom 1
hell knight fills that spot marvellously
barons are too bullet spongy so when used in larger numbers, especially without the ssg, they get tedious
yeah, that's the one thing I disliked about Sigil 1 and specifically the first baron on E5M1
two hell knights are way more fun to fight than a single baron even though the combined hp pool is equal
def one of the first ones to tackle. very doable
either get them to infight, or let the other guys get close to the door so you cn run easy

hello there. does anybody know how I could fix feeling motion sickness while playing Doom 2? the steam version of it is the second fps game that managed to make me feel physically sick while playing it in almost 2 decades which is a shame cos I was kinda enjoying this relic
You could try to increase the FOV.
Maybe its to low for you.
I have the same problem with older games where u can't change it.
Especially if its a very low FOV like 55-60.
Try upping it to 85-110 and find your personal sweetspot.
I dont know what sourceport/version you play, but look in the settings for something like "FOV" or "Field Of View"
it most likely would not be in the settings menu, but on a port you can change the settings file. It'll be DSDA..cfg if youre on DSDA doom under FOV

so on an original aspect installation of doom youd want a lower fov than widescreen

my save system usually is like this
- One save per level initially for new WADS
- Save per fight when a level becomes harder
- No saves for WADs I know well (like Doom 1's first 2 episodes) unless I plan to get off, then I reset my save when I die
I will deviate from it sometimes when a mapset becomes too hard and then I slowly start to savescum
I mean yeah, but cant get it in any other angle sadly

Anyone know how to have custom configuration settings between mods in GZDoom? That's basically the soul reason why I don't use it.
gzdoom has a command line option to select a different config file, so you can have different configs for different mods
I think the config file is gzdoom.pk3, as that's how it's work in a test I just did.

There are still a bunch of settings like FOV that haven't carried over from when I duplicated the .INI file that I utilized for my DOOM IWADS and used the copy for my Strife IWADS, some stuff didn't carry over like FOV and such. All of the settings shared between DOOM and DOOM II are the same despite me not changing anything for DOOM II. Any reason for this?

the curse of regular doom play means I get better at it and despite having rebalanced the first map(the most "done" of it) of my pet wad project(where I aim to compose the whole music, do around 10 maps and also most of the textures) recently, it now feels too easy again
especially the easy and medium skills
think I'm gonna leave easy as it is, make hmp a bit harder and UV a bit more unfair
altho its 123 enemies just for the first map

- Download or Compile Chocolate from the GitHub repository
- Unzip Chocolate, put that and all IWADs onto pen drive in wanted directory
- unless issued by parameter, Chocolate will use a config file in it’s CWD and will create the file on changing settings in
chocolate-setup.exe
I have given instructions exactly like this to a friend before and it ended in a nearly 1 hour long hassle for me so please just tell me if you are confused by anything

if you're specifying exact paths of everything including the exe, you do not need to put it into the same directory as the exe

Do you have the base IWADs for Doom 1/2 and the WAD for the decomp at least?

I’m not familiar with the decomp but I’ll assume you’ll need GZDoom
Stick the IWAD you need and the WAD into GZDoom’s directory
Either run this command in the terminal while loaded into the directory or use a batch file with gzdoom -file (name of decomp)
You can also drag the WAD onto GZDoom and select the required IWAD

How do I play the game with the original doom controls (the little arrows and shoot with ctrl) because no matter how hard I try to modify the controls I can't get it to be the same as the original game, since when moving to the sides the camera doesn't rotate.
use the orignal DOS version that comes with the Unity port
best bet is to also to use something like Chocolate Doom

the Steam and GOG versions also come with the original executables plus DOSBOX
when you run Doom from Steam you should get a list of 3 options
select the one the classic controls
you'll be stuck at the orignal resolution, though
plus the orignal limits of the Doom engine
well if you want (some) of the improvements of the Unity port, a sourceport is a better option
mind you no other port has that addons menu as every port assumes you're grabbing everything from the idgames archive or from some other place
if you're happy with the original executables though, just use them
though if you ever wish to change the controls for it, though
either find the orignal setup executable or download Chocolate and use it's setup executable (as it somehow still works with the original executable's config file)
