no. Most WADS are made for doom2. So you'd play it on doom2 specifically. Some require d1 though. however, you can get freedoom and freedoom2. These use the open source doom code to run, but replace all the proprietary assets with freedoom ones

And that's why source ports exist. Technically you have mouselook on dos, but you use the mouse also for going forward or backwards and so using mouse and keyboard on dos is weird. Maybe turning with arrow keys can be made faster in the options

throws me off greatly as I'm really used to no up and down movement
freelook is way more important for gz gameplay mods tho, since lots of em have:
a. view recoil ala cs or val
b. enemies that fly above you or below you and need to be shot at
c. much more verticality in movement, seeing where you're gonna land when jumping is impottant
to both you and the guy who needs freelook

I can get Revilution to launch just fine but it's not loading custom textures. Putting "-iwad doom2" in the .bat file results in no textures (just black spaces) and loading with "-iwad tnt" loads the completely wrong textures (eg lots of ceiling flats on the floors).
-iwad tnt.wad is what you should be doing

I'm going to assume it has something to do with launching through Steam because it's the only thing I can think of. Although that doesn't really make sense either. FWIW this is what my .bat file has in it:

nope. only limit removing wads are supported by the unity port. eviternity is mbf11 format
the unity port does have limtied dehacked support, but not the new decohack elements
it's conceivable the extended code pointers get added to the unity port because it's still essentially just dehacked

yes. It's basically just archviles under the ground. Viles can rez things through any height difference and walls if they're close enough. But they're special viles that do not count for the kill count
if you no-clip into the pillars, you'll see an archvile sprite. The actual sprite used for them is irrelevant but they picked it just so it'd be easier to playtest I imagine. Map30 of sunlust also uses another trick: for the telefrag segment with the cybers. That would only work on map30. On map30s, in vanilla and boom, decorations and monsters can telefrag
For what it's worth, they seem to be commander keens based on the lvl editor. If you're curious about this sort of thing, download Ultimate Doom Builder(not doom builder). You can check out any map in the editor. It's also helpful for finding secrets

Odds are, you have everything licensed by ID software. But there are essentially infinite custom wads out there. As Romero no longer works for ID, his sigil1 and sigil2 are also part of that custom wad tradition
yes, and the monsters aren't placed corpse (because those are actually different actors), they get killed by eploding barrels at the start of the map
any port that supports mapinfo can change that, so dsda goes on that list now
But it's Romero! It's his story!
Anything Romero makes is always going to be a lil special something for sure.

BFG hitscan projectiles require line-of-sight when the base projectile explodes, but is the arc projected from the position that the BFG was initially shot from or is it projected from the player's orientation at the moment the projectile explodes?
the angle is from the inital shot but the starting point is from your position(it's a few frames after the proj deals damage
so you fire a proj south and teleport a mile away. you turn west. the projectile lands. now 40 tracers from your player facing south deal damage

Okay, So I learned from yall about keeping the classic original Doom. I did now.
However;
I added mods that will make it more bloodier, and better textures, sounds, helmet and voxel 3d. So I'm uploading on youtube now, I don't know when it'll be finished. Probably like 5hrs or so. I have 4.50mbps upload speed so I ain't worry about it. Once it's completed I'll share it here and on fb.

og doom has what youd call an artstyle, adding hd textures and other garbage like that just makes it look off
youd have to make the maps high definition modelled too for hd textures to work
chunky geometry needs chunky textures

Doom 1, Plutonia and No Rest For The Living are peak Doom. Doom 1 has a better level design than Doom 2, Plutonia has very amazing combat encounters and atmosphere, No Rest For The Living is a mix of both great level design and both good combat encounters

Me too, I hate the reloadings in those mods (I think you can turn off reloading but still) because I am so used to Classic Doom and I find in situations where I am realoading in the middle of a horde of demons

While dodging the enemies, when the pillar starts to rise, run down and while standing on it - start firing with rockets the gap above the Icon of Sins head. Might take a few tries and to get the pillar to rise, if you turn 180degrees around, to the right there is an elevator made of flesh if not mistaken. Press the button to raise the pillar and repeat. A quicker way: use cheats to see what's inside

I think I'm starting to like playing doom without the hud. Makes it more fun and challenging.
