Stick to the second story and just lock on burst spam. Especially since you have hammer, you should.prpbably be able to keep your ammo up.

Normally I save chainsaw for the Pain Elemental in that encounter, but I don't know how ammo routing works for casual runs though (i.e. if there's a 2nd fuel, as I know there's at least 1 in the arena).

Either way, I believe there's boost pads in the arena you can use. Stick to those to get high in the air, then use Meathook to meathook jump off things as needed. You always wanna try to maximize air time in 99% of situations.

After you kill the Mancubus itself I believe you can leave the spirit alone. I'm pretty sure it doesn't possess anything else in that encounter.

Generally yes, SSG punch swaps are the best. Granted this also runs the risk of you getting hit in melee, plus you may accidentally glory kill something while doing it (mostly matters for speedruns, not a huge deal for casual runs)

If you're not being facetious, I just use the term casual as in speed doesn't matter, so a player can take their time and there's no actual penalties as long as the game gets completed. So glory kills, while slow, aren't a penalty in a casual run/playthrough

Personally when I look at speed running I look at how to go through the game as fast as possible because you've learned the map and arena. I don't really associate it with superior combat skill. No hud chains and overall combat movement is something that really makes me think fuck this person is good. I know speed runners see speed and effectiveness as skill over combat skill so it's something I always tease my other speedrunner friends about. I have mad respect for your and theirs skill though

I mean 100% speedruns also do a lot of combat to be fair. And most speedrunners have probably completed stuff like Unbalanced Unreclaimed Earth and mods of that nature, it's not like they're not aware of hard combat encounters.

Speedrunners see speed/effectiveness as better for speedruns. But for other content where the ONLY measure is "is it completed or not" a lot of things speedrunners look at as "bad" are suddenly not bad.

Like Unbalanced Unreclaimed Earth UN without shield/supers, while not easy, isn't the hardest thing when you have 1k+ experience speedrunning as well because you DO know the most efficient/effective combat.

The actual difficulty of said mod is irrelevant to whether I consider it a casual run/playthrough vs. a Speedrun. In a Speedrun of said mod I'd take riskier approaches which would most likely fail. It's the difference between someone saying they did a Master Level first try by hiding in a corner and PB ballistaing everything, vs a run that does riskier but faster strats with the likelihood they'll probably die. One person is doing it "to complete it" vs "completing it fast".

Not that completing for completions sake is bad. I think my above statement came across as that and it's not meant to. It's just different mentalities and therefore different inherent strategies.

Yeah which is why I'm looking back and thinking the options of new doom compared to classic restricts that. In the sense doing reclaimed even with a handicap is still something a speedrunner could and would complete eventually. Compared to let's say classic. I don't exactly uv max things. But I'll do a map solo net which even a speed runner couldn't really optimize because it is meant to bog you down with added monsters.

I think for Eternal specifically it's easy to look at Amy% or even Restricted runs and think the combat isnt as important or noteworthy (which to an extent is true). But even on lower difficulties the difference between someone who's good at combat and someone bad can mean major time differences. Which granted I'm talking specifically speedrunning, but for a long time speedrunners DID kinda suck at combat since we were just kinda blase about it. But then Bowsr in particular saved like 5 minutes off of just good combat alone and we kinds realized how doo doo we were XD

I think for classic combat isn't as tied to speed/completion time as it can be in Eternal. Which is kinda interesting cause I never really thought about that before.

One thing that may help in regard to spectres in particular (I'm assuming these are pinky specters,.I don't really remember admittedly lol), they don't have damage resistance like normal pinkies do. So you can SSG blast them from the front to theoretically kill them, or PB rocket, or whatever else.

I'll admit that for that wave of enemies I'll usually BFG the whole room and hope the archie does (and if not I'll kill him before he spawns stuff)

Uv max is 100 percent kills and secrets with the fastest time. And the pros do that. But I've managed to do some maps " casual" no max no one has completed yet. If that makes sense. I don't really see something like that possible in eternal 2016 since their is no real map creation to the same extent

Like the obvious example is that Arachnotrons will falter after 1 SSG shot, and they'll be put into glory kill state after the 2nd shot. So you could theoretically falter them with remotry Det or meme beam, but you aren't closer to killing them than you would be with ssg

Late reply, full charge Dblade. I think 2 charge does it as well but full charge is obviously wider so usually hits all of them.

On older patches killing all 5 short circuted the arena but that got patched because dumb patches are dumb. But with overdrive Dblade is still effective.

Both can be absolutely great dependant on the situation.
Shield's great for when you wanna safely deal damage to a big enemy right in front of you. (Although you can still get damaged from behind, so environmental awareness is still advised)
And detonater is great for behind Soldier shield and Pinkies, or for when aiming perfectly is just not an option (although lock-on also does that fine, but I guess since it uses 3 rockets, it's less ammo-friendly )

The repetitive nature of it is why I like it. I like how much more focused it is - it fits what the battle is going for.

It's like, if the Icon's song is a sledgehammer, this is more a needle. Befitting what the fight is meant to be - a focused and ritualistic battle between equal forces. Whether the battle itself succeeded at that is one thing, but I think the theme did.

That's the cue, not very consistent yet.
Get it so you can do it deathless 8.. 9 / 10 times, at least.
Otherwise you're playing the odds in UN.

For reference I trained cultist base surely 50 times in total, probably at least 5 deathless runs in a row + extra practice for choke arenas.

I trained gladiator too a fair bit but can't remember exact numbers.
