The Elemental Wraiths' origins are unclear, but we know a couple things.

1. They arrived in the World Spear, which is a ship.
2. There are thousands of dormant Wraiths in the World Spear.
3. The World Spear's energy is far beyond anything the UAC has recorded in modern Urdak.
4. The Wraiths are capable of spontaneously creating new biological life by emitting a scream known as a Wraithcall.

There are two main theories I think can explain them.

1. The Wraiths are Lovecraftian monsters made by the Mysterious Voice, the entity that created Davoth.
2. The Wraiths are biological machines created by the Maykrs as their answer to Davoth's question of how to induce immortality.

I personally prefer the latter, as I feel it adequately explains the magical properties of Wraith energy. YMMV.

This is correct. Specifically Grav wished for access to the Elemental Sepulchre, a keep that contained three of the Wraiths. Access to it was granted by Valen in exchange for his son's life, though as we all know this was a lie and Valen's son never truly was revived.

It is implied the final level of Doom 2016 may be the Elemental Sepulchre itself, now absorbed into Hell.

In regards to this, unfortunately the Father almost certainly would win.

try and set as run parameter/in steam general settings to +r_mode 9, i think that should be 800x600, it might be to do with this, that you need to change resolution initially. It sounds like it's in the menu but you can't see anything cause your display settings are wrong somehow.

try and go to doom folder, find the exe, right click and disable fullscreen optimizations, maybe also try run in compatibility mode. Can you open console with tilde key or is it just pitch black after that? It sounds like some stupid shit where if you get in the game and manage to change a few video settings it's probably going to be fine. Your graphics card should not be problem either i've played it with that exact card on other machine.

You can try delete the current settings, but since you haven't set any idk how much good it would do.

It's horrible first impression you are getting, but the game works fine normally, i've never had that bug and i've had a rig with a 1070 so it's not your graphics card, it's some stupid setting somewhere.

Yeah this might be it, You make bethesda account, then you go to settings on bethesda.net and click linked accounts, and you click add, and then add steam and go through that process. Then see if it changes anything after that.

Don't worry you can do that as long as you don't play certain amount of hours, so you don't have to do it immediately but it's totally understandable. The issue was the balancing wasn’t there at launch

If base game is a 6/10 difficulty wise

Tag 1 SHOULD have been like a 7-8

Instead it launched as a 10/10 difficulty dlc

So when tag 2 came out, there wasn’t much difficulty to go beyond 10.
So they dropped it difficulty wise to a 8

So everyone who was now used to tag 1, found tag 2 to be much easier

Either way I think the complaints were too exaggerated. For the real difficulty that’s what master levels are for

Why there is no meme channel:

you need more experience to be able to tell, there's various advanced techniques to shoot much faster than normal with certain weapons, and quickswitching is already a lot of damage as it is. Mostly the hackers are so obvious they fly around in air non stop and spam plasma at 4x rate of fire or something ridiculous. Then there are a few who have slightly modified speed and can see slayer constantly no matter what which there is a cheat for. But mostly there's not that many

this was what i didn't like about doom 2016, it was too one dimensional like other shooters, you just run and jump around a little.. That hook was brilliant to setup so many different moves and firing in the air as you fly around.

doom 2016 was great but was too much like other shooters, the meathook was really nice, it was so great halo infinite just straight up copied it, but in less interesting way.

it also comes from an old q2 mod called quake 2 lithium. Where they had power runes and they could grabble on any surface, making for insane gameplay for those who were good at it. It was genius to find that in ID's historical games and bring that in to DE.

yeah it's basically q2 lithium is like meathook but on every surface and you can fling yourself around at very fast speed, + runes that make you faster, or you have regeneration runes or other things, or vampire runes so you steal health by doing damage.. and then you just flying around like that + normal gameplay. insane high skill ceiling but ofcourse fun. It's clearly what they found and brought into DE, and it was smart decision.

Yeah it basically just added grapple to it to make it much faster and suddently it becomes a totally different game where you fly around so much you barely have to touch the ground which makes for some insane fights. Just so you can see, like this was where they got the idea from.

Yep it actually surprises me it took them that long to figure out, okay go back to the old games and mods for them is there something we can use YEP, it's like a sleeper mod it had just been sitting there waiting for them to use it. I think actually if had they used that for quake tournament it might have taken off more, but for doom it's perfect cause there's so many enemies that it's good to be able to become airborne and setup attacks and get a little breather like that.

I like to use cacos as grabble mounts. Pop a shotgun grenade in its mouth so its fat and happy and sit still in glorykill. And then use it as an anchor to swing around cause it become stationary. They are perfect for that cause they float in air to begin with, so you can really swing far. Or you can glorykill it and then land and blood punch them with the bloodpunch you now have.

Depends. Usually it's because "since you're about to chainsaw anyways, might as well use all your ammo". Other times, it's because you may want chainsaw for the iframes and such in addition to the ammo, so you don't wanna use it asap.

Though to be honest you're pretty much spot on that you SHOULD always be using chainsaw when it's available XD I think people also just get tunnel visioned, even the best players.

There's actually some in game files that put the different demons into categories, and the Archvile then can summon demons based on these categories. Even beyond Small Medium Heavy Super Heavy, they also had "close ranged, ranged, pusher" etc.

That said I don't know if that file itself was or wasn't used (datamining only went so far) but I imagine they initial implementation of Archviles was to summon a variety of demons that fit different roles

(along with preventing the summoning of super heavies in base game/other difficulties)

Technically even in older patch base game, you can trigger Archviles to incorrectly spawn super heavies and other shit they shouldn't spawn

So the code for them summoning other stuff was there. The only thing I never got them to spawn was another Archvile, which makes me think they specifically made it so they couldn't

Hey would you guys recommend doing Campaign UN first, or maxing out skill on Master Levels first?

I’ve beaten them all on UV so far. I was not able to beat TN ML on NM because the final encounter was way too hard/long. I guess mastering the MLs on NM would prepare me better for UN?

Ah okay. That makes sense then. One thing you could do is have one file nightmare with another UN. Instead of a full nightmare run. Run one arena on nightmare when you have it down just switch to the UN file and complete it there and so on

Well that method still requires repetition of each level, and I’m hoping to just get better at the game as a whole rather than win through rehearsals

I know we've talked about it before, I actually think the general concept of what you're saying is valid. There's a certain "improvisational skill" that would be "a player can handle any arena without seeing it before" that unfortunately isn't inherently present in DE.

As far as how to improve so you can kind of get to that point where you know how to handle general situations.. I think PC players have had the benefit of certain mods that pushed the envelope. The original "Horde Mode" in particular really got players to learn how to use Dblade effectively, along with how insane the Energy Shield is.

Always use chainsaw when it's available, since it's not like there's a difference of chainsawing at half ammo vs. 75% ammo, as by the time you run out from full you'll get to a new chainsaw.

Staying mobile, especially in the air, is pivotal. Using SSG to jump off enemies + reset your double jump in particular is very useful.

Well one example is although the huge differences someone who has hours in 2016 and UN a nightmare blind run or UN run in eternal could be easier although practice and keeping your skills sharp is still important. I generally don't think natural skill can take you all the way in anything

It's not just memorizing arenas. It's learning demon patterns, how to approach demons and kill them efficiently, etc.

Like even just a simple "2 SSGs can kill an Arach but sometimes it's not enough, so doing SSG pb SSG makes the kill consistent"

I'll put it another way. Memorizing arenas is maybe 20% to 50% tops on how to do UN.

I can explain to somebody that a pitcher is going to throw a curveball at 88mph. But it's up to the batter to actually still be able to hit said ball

You still need to actually have the game sense to capitalize on how to fight an Arachnotron, how to fight a hell knight, etc. And for base game you need to know how to fight them at THAT point in the campaign because you may have different upgrades or perks than others.

I think the biggest flaw against this is that DE doesn't have random spawns in most arenas. Which while I like from a Speedrun viewpoint, i think a better design is in arenas with Archviles

But we have several arenas that show what could have been with a more interesting design to spawns

UN still requires game sense and general knowledge (i.e. not memorizing arena knowledge) obviously, but I definitely think it could have leaned away from the scripted spawns we have now, at least giving more locations for enemies to spawn.

In the past I’ve argued for randomized arenas but I’m not doing so now. I’m saying that a good batter doesn’t need to know that the next pitch is an 88mph Curveball to hit it. Just like I shouldn’t need to remember whether there are 2 or 3 cacos in this arena of Hell on Earth where i died last night.

imo what helps you best with UN is what bloodshot has already said, that you know how to glorykill and which combos are effective against which demons. Unironically if you want to be able to complete the game the fastest as possible, you should get the mod injector and mod tools to go and spawn any demon in game in front of you and fight it like 1000 times till you know all the combos that are effective against it. Or atleast the one you have trouble against. It's not even so much about aim for UN as it is about that. You can have perfect aim and still get your ass kicked if you don't know the correct combos.

End of they day it's a personal thing. I'm basically saying there isn't a magic get good pill. If you practice master levels and you see an increase in your general skill than in that case it worked for you
