Hey, I read that Doom Eternal is "Officially supported" on the steam deck, but I'm wondering if I can get an explanation of what exactly that means, or some help with the issue I'm facing. I'm trying to submit a bug report on bethesda.net and I can't because it needs dxdiag/msinfo and those don't exist on the Steam Deck. (My bug that I'm trying to report involves being stuck on the "Press A to start" screen at the start of a mission when I'm using M+KB and the A button is out of reach)
yeah eternal is one of those games where you rust fast. just play for a bit and you'll get back into it. I kept mistiming my quickswaps when I returned after a few months

do you not have tutorials on? I'm pretty sure it tells you the weakpoint of the arachnatron, a PB is a mod for the heavy cannon (Precision Bolt)

It's cheaper in the early game, as a PB costs 6 Heavy Cannon ammo to do

this is a console player at 450 hours, and it's super rare to see someone that good at 450 hours on pc

So you're comparing someone that's sunk 100's of hours into the game to someone who is presumably just trying to get into it on console? based on the questions he was asking
no, i'm just saying i don't think the game sucks to play on console
it's a hard game no matter your platform, so it moreso depends on what you're familiar with
That's your opion then, I'm speaking from personal experience as when Eternal first came out, I tried playing it on console and it sucked, before eventually caving in and getting it on my PC
that's anecdotal though, there isn't anything that objectively or universally makes eternal suck on console
i don't think a console player could become the absolute best eternal player, since it is a bit worse than mkb, but it'd be possible to get in or almost in the top 5
DOOM (2016) has no multiplayer included.
I'm not the only one who thinks eternal sucks on console, ask many people who first started on console and they will probably tell you that it sucked.

but it's pretty clear that it's harder to be good on console than it is on pc
significantly so, unless you're already used to playing a bunch of shooters at a high level on controller
i agree that console isn't as good as pc, but i think some stuff is more comfortable to learn and perform on there
and the limitations present on controller are regarding less important things, and surmountable

Huh, it's there on HUD. And Hugo hasd stated he always preferred to play on consoles instead of PC. Maybe this is why DOOM The Dark Ages is much easier than DOOM Eternal.

funnily enough, what i see most console players struggle with the most is movement, which is something that isn't worse on console (except ballista boosts), and it's also what most pc players struggle with
i'd say it's possible for a console player to become a top 5 player, and definitely top 10, although at that level the limitations with controller will be more noticeable

DOOM is Eternal
It's the most 2016 feeling level in Eternal, and that's probably what they were going for
My favorite levels in Eternal are all in TAG 1, but if I had to rank em top 3, UAC would undoubtedly be least favorite of my top 3 favorite levels
there's some arenas I think are unnecessary and pad out the level a bit too much
after having played eternal without any CC (knockback/slowdown) and coming back to it, i don't hate it as much anymore
i still think it's somewhat overused, and it really suffers from some attacks with it sometimes being broken
though overall i don't mind it all too much
playing grounded mfs when faced with knockback/slowdown attaxks
like shit i vary my level of grounded-ness but it's so not optimal in shit like that enclosed arena in sgn ml with carcasses and tyrants and doom hunters
you can dash to dodge the whiplashes ranged attack but it's so hard
grounded slayers are fake

i feel like i barely see players entirely stick to playing grounded
i chose grounded when I can, which is alot more than people initially know
and what players define as grounded also differs
except for in online play ofc
but there's some arenas where it's grueling torture to do grounded
legitimately many times just with basic moving and dashing you can do plenty

i mean you can do any level with grounded gameplay, but whether or not it's a good approach depends on arena and demons
also i don't think almost only aircamping is optimal, true aircamping sequences isn't something i incorporate a lot
though staying in the air a lot is still often a really good idea

i get my ass beat when a single marauder shows up in "im too young to die" campaign

Look up good strats to defeat Marauders. With some practice you can 1v1 one easily

As far as I'm aware enemy count is the same, but enemies have more chances for special attacks and charge you more same as deal more damage.
i was in that exact same spot, but just playing more like others have said can make you however good you want
focusing on getting better by talking with good players, practicing things you don't know, and just wondering about what you can do better will help a lot
yeah, playing slayer gates was fun (demonic encounters? not so much because of the time constraint), i liked zooming across the map wiping the demons out, wish there were more of these gates

Any tips on the last arena in TAG2 with the possessed mancubus (Iām struggling a lot with dodging the barons that keep moving across ledges while Iām doing glory kills for health)
The archvile normally isnāt a problem because I already have 2 blood bunches and an ice bomb saved up by the time it shows up
do you have savagery equipped to give less time for enemies to reposition?
and mobile turret works quite well against barons of hell, since it will falter them regularly, you just have to be careful to not take damage or tunnel vision while using it
if the possessed mancubus is giving you trouble, i recommend just tapping it with the microwave beam whenever it gets dangerous, because even a super short tap will "falter" it
lock-on burst is also good against any possessed enemy, and it's very powerful against archviles if they're already frozen (i wouldn't spend blood punches on archviles most of the time)
I am slowly getting better in Eternal. Just completed Arc Complex Master Level on Nightmare 
I got that on UV I donāt play the Master Levels much, not a big fan personally, much rather do Horde Mode

Well like by the avoiding in time, itās not the glory kills directly are causing, itās the fact the Barons keep moving up and down while Iām tryna focus on other problematic heavies, particularly pain elementals and cacos
Well when SGN is the first Master Level you play you get the impression itās an hour long horde mode

horde mode is really just a master level with randomized weapons and more gimmicks

The Master Levels are perfect for a mid player like me to train. In Super Gore Nest I actually started to do what I saw in the Gameplay vids from Pros but clearly not as good as them but still. I'm just happy I am starting to improve 
because the enemy spawns don't actually change

master levels are too long, literally my main criticism, by the half of them im already burnt out
i can't know for sure since i haven't seen your gameplay, but i'd guess this is because of tunnel vision or a lack of situational awareness, or both since they are very closely linked
tunnel vision is when you focus on one enemy or a group of them, especially focusing on dps-ing them, and thereby forget to move, restack, or control the arena (vague concept ik, i can specify if you want me to), or a combination of them
it sounds like a beginner mistake, but it's present in i'd say virtually every person's gameplay (even among the absolute best players) just to varying degrees
and having good situational awareness means not tunnel visioning, but also being aware of the demons present and if a demon is in a spot where they threaten you
moving around a lot, getting into the air, and looking at your whole screen helps with this a lot
for most of them, if they were shorter, they'd be very underwhelming
they're meant to be a harder experience, which, if you don't want to lose arenas, means making the levels longer
idk abt that, i understand challenging versions of levels but making them so long changes them from just challenging to sluggish
even without dying once they take soooo long
having checkpoints in them would of course be awesome, but apparently they couldn't figure out how to implement that

I restarted Nightmare today and finally started to get into Eternal flow, but still lost so many Extra Lives simply because I got hit by high tier enemy in the back or I don't expect so much damage and get too confident with rushing enemy. Would be cool to have ability that signals that there is enemy behind my back.
But it's way better now. Yesterday, it was miserable.
Don't rememeber already how to upgrade properly, but I went:
- 1 Health+ 1 Armor = Faster recharge for Flamethrower. + 1 Health. Plan to get +1 Ammo for more armor from enemies. Then would go for drops from higher distance.
- Faster recharge for Dash and frag grenade. Plan to go for Dash recharge after GK and 2 frag grenades.
- Runes: Longer Stagger and Final Blow (extra life).
- Weapons: Shotgun - Sticky Bombs (going for mastery); Assault Rifle - Scope (going form mastery); Plasma Rfile - Heat Blast; Rocket Launcher - Lock On; Super Shotgun - going for mastery.
With such upgrades I feel cooldowns better and it feels way more handy. But is it optimal approach?
Also does Extra life Rune works before player lose actual picked up Extra Lives or does it work after all lives are lost?
obviously it will usually take longer, but each normal level still takes about half an hour to beat for people who don't struggle with UN
so much shorter MLs wouldn't make a lot of sense imo
What extra life rune? Do you mean the one unlocked in TAG 1?
No, Final Blow or something. Always forget it's name. Same as in Doom 2016 it grants extra chance to survive after final hit.
i would go with drops from further away before armor at faster rates
hot swapper as the first rune upgrade, faster dashes as second, then just whatever i feel like
air control first, then equipment fiend/savagery/dazed and confused

for weapon mods and such it really does't exist as optimized paths, so i can't really comment on that
mostly just due to them being up to personal playstyle a lot, though the meathook mastery is goated to get early true

Yeah, I would go for Equipment Rune next for sure. Already took Dazed and Confused. Air Control messes with me too much, unfortunately.
Didn't go for fast swap, because I barely use fast swap. Mostly use mix of weapons+mods (but just scrolling through them, if needed), a lot of Dash, Flamethrower, GKs. Periodically Frag Grenade. Rarely use Chainsaw (often try to save for high tier enemy) and Ice Grenade (mostly against Whiplashes or high tier) and I guess that's it. I use Blood Punch mostly on accident, when going for GK or against Pinkies/Armored enemies. Probably need to use these 3 more often.
I would go for SSG mastery first then. š

without quick swaps hot swapper does become less useful true, although i still think it's worth going for early, especially since it speeds up mod swap animations too
question Āædoes anybody using the injector mod have some kind of fps drops or perfomance issue? as long side with some crashes ? 
like vanilla doom eternal without modding i'm perfectly fine but with the injector mod i got some perfomance issue like from 120 fps to 60 or even 50 fps from all the sudden
I have similar issues, but not sure it's related to ModInjector. Yesterday and today, I had random crashes and FPS drops with vanilla game too.
yeah you definitely want to use those 3 often, because you don't want to be out of ammo, getting all ammo pools to roughly 50% then chainsawing is a good rule of thumb imo, but there are ofc exceptions, like when you use lock-on burst
ice doesn't need to used super often like other equipment, but you don't want to have it off cooldown too much
and blood punch is imo a really underrated piece of the arsenal, it hard falters enemies 360 degrees around you and deals almost as much/more damage than rocket (depending on where in the game you are), i'd recommend just experimenting with it to see how you can use it effectively

Guess, it's the same story for me as with Stun Bomb in 2016. I know Ice Bomb is good, but barely use it, since can't integrate well into combat loop. Maybe due to cooldown, maybe due to switching from Frag Grenade and inability to Glory Kill stunned/frozen enemies.
I play on console so trying to switch between frag and ice almost always ends up in me switching mods and itās super annoying with the rocket launcher bc lowkey remote det is useless

It deals just 2/3rds the damage of a normal rocket explosion to a smaller area
it allows you to have a larger degree of control over the battlefield by stopping demons, setting up longer falter chains, and keeping them from moving
you can earn that back through detonating missed rockets though
plus you won't lose out on a lot of damage since you detonate far from all rockets

yeah the falter is what makes it good
which you can get a number of other ways
right, but the opportunity cost is the best source of burst damage in the game
you don't use lock-on burst super often though, since a single barrage consumes half the ammo you get from each chainsaw
it doesn't cost you lock-on burst, since you can just swap between them
i like maining remote det during fights because i really like integrating the falters into combos (and even detonating it on demons i'm not engaging yet), or to detonate missed rockets, and then i swap to lock-on burst whenever a high priority or dangerous demon appears
same for sticky bombs and full auto, i main stickies but swap to full auto
same for dblade and arba, pb and micro missiles too
with the plasma rifle i don't really have a preferred mod

because you're using a whole rocket to accomplish something you could accomplish essentially for free with a frag (plus a frag's a hard falter)

Then I back out, throw a regular rocket, swap, shoot, then 2 LOBs
obviously if you can pb-rocket well, then lock-on burst loses a lot of usefulness because pb-rocket is more ammo efficient
so it makes sense to me why you (M1) use remote det more often
but for most players remote det is kinda just a bad investment--can't even handle basic higher tier fodder consistently and the falter is more easily found elsewhere
That sounds interesting. I never played through faltering enemies. I mostly try to kill them on the spot with as much damage as possible in 1 go and if it doesn't work I retreat to fodder refill resiources and go back to big folks.
What about ammo consumption with such mods?
Like Shotgun with Full Auto, Assault Rifle Micro Missiles, Plasma Magnetron, Remote Detonate. I barely used them in any of my old playthroughs. But I guess they can be used enough, if chainsaw is used often, right?

Atlantica Facility was never a roadblock for me but then again I havenāt touched TAG1 since I beat it on Extra Life Too Young to Die

But like remote detonate is not gonna help me for Final Sin, Nekravol or Sentinel Prime

LOBs are way better in taking care of tyrants than remote detonate
tyrants and barons have resistance to lock on burst, so they're not really a great showcase for it anyways

true, but its not the goal of remote det to dps-max, so that's kinda irrelevant (btw, tyrants and barons have a 30% resistance to lob)
tyrants especially are enormous stationary targets, so you can just kinda swap through whatever weapons you want and everything's going to hit
Barons are the exception, but like with tyrants, where they donāt normally cause me a problem except for them being so freaking big, that I do my usual, and while Iām not actively attacking something else, I switch to LOB them and Iām good
2 normal rockets deal about the same damage to a tyrant or baron as a lock on burst

well here's the thing though, no one is constantly faltering (if you were you'd never die), and remote det allows you to, seamlessly, integrate more falters
the fact that you have other falter sources doesn't detract from remote det, since they can all play into eachother nicely to allow for really cool "falter combos" or control of the battle

if I got more rockets from a chainsaw than just 6, I'd definitely consider using remote det more often
also if the inner explosion radius wasn't so damn small
full auto has great dps, but i wouldn't use it a ton without its mastery, since that's what makes it really useful. with the mastery, upon killing a demon you get back shells, which makes full auto the absolutely best mod for ammo economy xd
micro missiles isn't spammable, unless you wanna be out of ammo, so i'd either use pb more, or not use either a lot

remote detonate isn't really costly ammo-wise (though it does depend on how much you use it), throwing in a couple exploding rockets here and there won't have a massive hit on your economy. though it will still have an effect, but since remote det still deals damage (just not as much as a normal rocket), and you can explode rockets you otherwise would've missed, the amount of damage-per-rocket stays roughly the same with or without remote det. however! lock-on burst actually decreases damage per rocket, due to lack of splash, and it consumes 3 rockets, so i'd consider that mod much less ammo friendly
lobs deal the same damage as a regular rocket to their target (900)
in eternal, at least--in 2016 they deal less
except instead of 300 direct + 600 splash it's 875 direct + 25 splash
how you play will come down to personal playstyle a lot, so you might not use all weapon mods, or use them to varying degrees, but i think in general that optimal play includes almost all weapon mods

for my skill level at least, high priority targets are hell/dread knights, carcasses, pain elementals, barons, and archies
with the exception of carcasses which can be dealt with a number of ways, lock on burst is a really easy way of killing or dealing massive damage to any of the above enemies, which in harder content are almost always present in some capacity
the utility isn't super clear in the beginning! but it's also commonly disregarded by even really good players (and some of the absolute best players) which makes me sad :<

i wouldn't try to always kill demons in one go. you want to focus on moving throughout the entire arena and restacking all 3 stacks while doing so, and then move between targets. then you can prioritise which demon to focus the most on and potentially use high damage options (like lob) or many falters for, to take out quickly. it's very common that it is completely fine to kill a demon in one go though, but it depends on your surroundings and the demon

Thatās why it took 2 hours to get the last secret encounter in The Holt because I kept getting bad Marauder RNG
Like I could barely even take a shot because it kept dashing into me and shooting me
the marauder isn't only luck, there are ways you can guarantee green eye flashes, restrict his movement, get in free damage, or even bypass his green eye flashes
lock on to him with lob and look up
if you let him throw his axe, then run at you, he's going to go in for a green eye flash every time

but geometry and enemy fire can screw you

also if you keep the correct distance, you can trigger multiple green eye flashes directly after eachother, though this isn't entirely consistent
Yeah I also canāt maintain his stunned state, it could be frame rate, but it feels so sluggish tryna do that, Iāve only been able to do it once
and he'll never dash across your crosshair, so if you keep it on his right/left side and flick it slightly to hit him during green eye flashes, you'll have removed 50% of his movement options
Plus itās not as fun to instantly eliminate the Marauder. I like mine with a little resistance 
just start off with ssg, hit him when he flashes green, hold down the fire button, swap to ballista, then once you've hit him with the ballista, swap back to ssg
hold down fire the entire time
while he's changing elevation, he's also completely vulnerable to any damage, so you could lock-on burst him while he's jumping up a ledge

you can throw in a frag grenade as well, and that extra damage can semi-reliably allow you to kill him in 2 cycles

Possessed Marauder is the lowest circle of Hell, I wouldnāt wish it on my worst enemy
biggest thing there is to not overcommit against the possessed marauder
if you make sure to back away in time, not focus on dealing damage when you shouldn't, properly restack in between dealing damage, and get into the air with the meathook a lot, you should be good there
though it's definitely easier said than done xd
Then again I also didnāt use air control rune during that run
that's kinda crazy
i'd just always keep that shit on me, unless you're experienced with grounded gameplay, then no air control can be fun to experiment with
but i always jusy play with it on, unless it's to challenge myself

you can send out a rocket over crowds and detonate it, or detonate a rocket close to a demon that's about to attack, or use it to keep a group of demons bunched together, the creativity possible with the mod i find really fun
being able to detonate missed rockets for extra damage/potentially extra falter is just a bonus imo

I made small run - tried to use different stuff on Easy to check how my opposite approach to gameplay for casual me look like.
Weapons:
Shotgun Full Auto: good damage, but bye-bye ammo. Only can be mastered, when Pinkies appear (Doom Hunter boss level). I remember using it long ago, but don't remember how effective is ammo restoration vs high tier enemies.
Assault Rifle Micro Missiles: weak damage, long cooldown. Sometimes miss target. It looks like even primary would be better at least at long distances. š«¤
Plasma Rifle Microwave Beam: interesting thing. Bye-bye ammo, but can pin and damage few enemies at once and blow weaker enemies quite fast. Not sure, if better than Heat Blast, but cool as a tool.
Rocket Launcher Remote Detonation: seems weak (is it weaker than normal shot - I don't know). I didn't upgrade it still, though.
Equipment:
Using Chainsaw more often seems like good idea and necessary with such approach for sure.
Ice Bomb is amazing when slightly upgraded. Need to use it more in normal runs.
Blood Punch - still forget to use it or use it on accident.
Runes:
Seek and Destroy - I guess, it's useful, but not very useful for me, same as 2016 analog.
Chrono Strike - forget to use it, but it's interesting. I tried to use it long ago, but had same issue, since extra thing to keep in mind.
Overall I was often out of ammo and used chainsaw constantly, but it's possible to play this way even though not very handy overall.

Yāall give me like some tips to beat the dark lord Iām actually about to Crash tf out
Stay in mid-range and donāt stop moving. When Davoth flashes green, shoot him with either the Super a shotgun or Ballista (they are the most ideal to stun him), and use the Sentinel Hammer to faze him further. And while he is dazed, fuck him up.
I recommend Changun Energy Shield to protect yourself from his projectiles.

How do people spam weapons so quickly? Especially the sticky bombs and the rocket launcher?
for weapons beside the rocket launcher and combat shotgun, it's just about finding the rhythm/timing
you can fire before a weapon is fully brought up though
for the rl/csg, you gotta fire a pb (precision bolt) shot beforehand if you want the swaps to be fast, but the timing becomes much harder, especially for the combat shotgun

- Flame Belch.
- 1 Crystal upgrade (I put it in ammo).
- 1 Mod Bot (Sticky Bombs).
- 1 Praetor Coin (not required to be used).
Not required:
- Assault Rifle.
- Plasma Rifle.
- A lot of encounters can be skipped in 1st 3 levels without glitches.
- Rest of pickups/upgrades aren't needed (outside of level progression one).
I assume:
- Plasma Rifle, Ballista and BFG would be required.
- Assault Rifle and Chanigun maybe can be skipped.
I had a blast - levels feel much faster, if not to pickup everything and fight each enemy. š

IMO the first slayer gate is the hardest one on nightmare. The lack of tools made it so hectic and challenging
Yeah, I also struggled with 1st Slayer's Gate. Then I restrarted game and put starting upgrades in a bit different way and started to move around arena more, instead of camping in a corner and it become better.
it's not easy to one cycle them, but it's not super hard either
double marauders by themselves are simple, it's when their paired up with heavies in not big arenas that's when shit gets funky

Master levels, final sin and the holt are levels I don't mind using the bfg on cause the fact they don't kill arenas but just help them which is rare, master levels are so long I don't mind using bfg sparingly
final sin is the only main campaign level i use the bfg on due to the fact that like, if im using it for the Icon of Sin, might as well use it on the stage cause the arenas are just flat with two floors and enemy spam
it's a fine level but the bfg makes it more digestible
i lwk have never use bfg not even in mars core master level
not even in the encounter right after u get the bfg
the holt is a 50/50, depends on how im feeling if i want to speed up the possesed tyrant/pain elemental kill

i taught it to a couple of my frnds and they got the hang of it rly quick
even with the simplest one cycle (using slob+grenade(s)), it requires a decent amount of mechanical skills
you need to be able to do pb rocket, and then have the correct mouse presses to activate fast lock-on, and then throw frags in there too
ngl i find the lock on cycle easier
i mean its just my perspective and i have like 4k hours in eternal so myb thats showing smth

My pc struggles to play the regular version as is but the modded version just doesn't work at all

If you use ModIjnector - it was updated recently for new update.
Works fine for me, but both vanilla and modded (ModInjector) games crash for me periodically after some time, I assume because of launcher
But 2 days ago, didn't have crashes by launching modded without starting game through launcher (ModInjector auto launched launcher and game without pressing "play" in launcher).

I'm not sure about achievement, but I go this way to upgrade:
-
Crystals for Health/Armor/Ammo
I prefer: Quickdraw Belch -> Loot Magnet -> Belch Armor Boost -> Napalm Belch -> both upgrades for Blood Punch (but, since I barely use it I prefer to keep health/armor on a map as much as possible, so may even get only 1 upgrade from each not to activate it). Health and then armor are my first 2 preferable upgrade for Nightmare. -
Suit upgrades solely depend from what you want:
If you are not very good with map - map one maybe should be priority, since in this case you would upgrade faster without replaying levels.
Next one is probably speed related one or if you don't need map one - go for speed one first. Shorter recharge for dash for sure - rest depends from your playstyle.
Rest are quite optional.
I personally prefer frag grenades next, but in my last playthrough decided to use Ice Bombs more.
Environmental upgrades are quite niche, in my opinion. So if you good with exploration and avoiding damage from hazards - map and environment probably should be last upgrades.

Do enemies like tyrants have weak point anywhere if im just spraying them with chain gun
the only enemies with weak points are revenants, mancs, and arachnotrons
plus cacos if you consider the sticky bomb/frag grenade in the mouth as a weak point
but even the mancs, it dont matter if u hit them in the stomach or head after the guns are gone

can use all 3. super shotgun + precision bolt + ballista. not only does this decrease the weapon switch time if you quick scope, it also gives extra damage

okay beat Mars Core UN for the third time in the past two days, definitely my favorite Master level now

I just had a marauder hide behind a wall and jump out and attack me.
I'm in tarads nabad and I'm this pillar, like out of his reach.
And after a bit he like, started walking up the stairs and disappeared. I got worried I had broken the game because the hell barrier was still up.
So I jumped down and walk to the barrier
He fucking comes out from around the wall on the inside and smacks me dead in the face with his axe.
I've never been jumpscared in eternal like that before.

like, it's always a case of "final wave or final waves are the interesting ones" while the buildup waves just kind of waste time
i understand like the final arena of the level for sure, but sometimes I'm legitimately wondering why we're wasting our time with easy encounter's to build up to the big ones
like the levels already long, don't pad it out with buildup

examples in Mars Core;
Revenant and Pinky/Bloodpunch charge spam arena: Good, it's unique and really pushes what Pinky's can do when u put em all together, and the revenants keep you on your toes slightly outside of the pinkies. This is the first fight in this arena and it's baller.
Arachnotron spam arena before double archvilles: Lame, it's not special and it just feels like wasting time before the actual interesting things come up.
