I probably would've used it a bit if it wasn't for it, and there are no mods that fix it either!

There's a mod that halves the required plasma shots to charge heat blast, which makes armored barons kinda fun... somehow

Since their shield has no immunity towards heat blast, a yeet blast will deal massive damage towards their shield, and then you can kill them normally, with the added pressure of them getting their armor on in 7 seconds

If I did like it I would be switching between the mods

You can throw a rocket at a random group of enemies and detonate it for a free falter, or you can set up long falter chains with it
It's just good for CC in general IMO, and yeah,most superheavies have a very long falter immunity, but in the case of doom hunters, cyber mancs and barons of hell, their damage falter and remote det falter work independently

It's neat if you want to go in for bp+ssg or something, or if you want to get down on the ground without being bombarded by enemies (there are other solutions too, but it's neat to have one extra)

When there’s a spirit totem, spirt buff or purple buff all the enemies become immune to falter.

Frankly it feels like the devs designed the mod out of the game with the dlcs by making continuously more dangerous enemies immune to it

I shot the heavy cannon shot to the side in order to activate FSE (fast swap effect) in the rocket launcher, then I just shot the marauder with a rocket to stun and since I had FSE I could do SLOB (tech that makes the lock-on way faster), this gives you just enough time to do 2 lock-ons which is enouh for a stagger with the added rocket

You can shoot the marauder with the heavy cannon shot, but it makes the timing really tight

i think without mods the most practical solution is the marauder at the beginning of Taras, takes like 20 seconds to get to, albeit the checkpoint in this one loads the instant the encounter ends, but that’s the exchange of not having to do an entire level beforehand

@austere bronze @heady grotto So my personal take is that DOOM Eternal only gets better as you go along. The developers very intentionally made an incredibly deep combat system laced with interactions, based both on your own weapon choices and the weaknesses of specific demons which takes not only a commitement to learn, but also once you have all the upgrades the way you play around them changes.

I did nightmare mode as my first playthrough, just as Ive done with every DOOM/Quake game I ever played, and it was rough because I did not spend my points wisely

Be advised, the game does not feature a reset option for any of the points you spend

So if you are on your first ever playthrough of nightmare and you make some bad choices, you will suffer until about level 5 potentially

after that it gets more fun and things dont feel as restrictive

So all in all I would say Eternal suffers from an overly punishing early game experience if you mess up your first-playthrough build

but just gets better and better after that

You may be pressing your movement keys right when you do the boost, which is a big no no if you use air control

You have to: have some kind of forward momentum, let go of all movement keys (if you're using air control), turn backwards and shoot the ballista, turn back and with a little delay from your ballista shot you can press your movement keys again

You of course have to be in the air while shooting the ballista, a double jump immediately will make the timing easier but you will travel slightly shorter than by doing 1 jump then another

A combat shotgun shot deals max 320 damage and a super shotgun shot deals max 1600 damage

The super shotgun has a bit worse spread, but you lose damage with the combat shotgun just by being further away from your target

You never wanna use base combat shotgun fire, the sticky bombs are way better
(400 damage, with most of that being splash, and it deals as much as a rocket on headshots)

I struggled with it personally

when i started i'd been an xbox player for 6 or 7 years so i didnt have that much trouble

but i did start on the easiest difficulty so there's also that

you'll get used to it in time

Why? Levels do not affect your quick switching speed

And if you don't have the hot swapper upgrade that affects your entire save

Turn down look smoothing to 0, I recommend a 70-80x sense and a 50-60y sense, and turn down aim assist strength (trust me it can get annoying if you use the precision bolt)

Yeah, SSG is on L3 for me and balista Is down on dpad. Helps with movement and SSG aligns shots for you

It just doesn't have Doom's resource management like it does in the older games

and is much more vertically based than horizontally based

it's not a bad game, but it's never felt like Doom to me

infact, Eternal has been one of my favorites in the series, although 2016 may take that place Eternal currently is

but yeah, in Eternal, it's much more about keeping your resources high, but I barely call that management tbh

in the older games, you have to instead manage a limited pool of resources

Pick and choose when to use the resources

like sometimes it's better to leave the health pack and use a stimpack instead

or a clip over an ammo box

etc.

but yeah, my main issues with Eternal's loop is that they basically give you everything you need in unlimited amounts

and most people don't see enemies as a resource, but I do, even in the older games

and they also even give those in unlimited amounts with the respawning fodder demons

Infighting. That's basically all I need to say, really.

You can use the enemies in 1/2 (and 64) as an actual weapon

and can even use as a small way of regaining a couple ammo types (shells and bullets)

like you can wake up a single rev so it'll fire a couple homing missiles and then you can slam them into another enemy

or a group of enemies

and basically just cause mass infighting without worrying too much about having to waste resources

I think it's fine to like both or all Doom games and not compare them. I think we should see it as a positive that people are playing any of the games. You can prefer what you do but maybe talk about it in the Classic Doom page? It's just a bit disheartening when I see classic Doom players doing this. I've been playing for 30 years and when I play Eternal, I erase classic Doom from my mind completely and treat it as an entirely different game. But I like to cycle between all of them frequently now. I do get what you're saying and your viewpoint, but I just don't know if I agree completely. But neither of us are in the wrong.
