Or it'll very often make me swap to rockets when I'm not even close to pressing my rockets bind

Ballista punch swaps is so weird. There's like random factors that seem to make it way faster with way less cooldown....or it's very sluggish.

I just replayed Final Sin and I was able to do Sticky Bomb punch swaps fairly consistently throughout the whole level.
I'm starting to think it has something to do with frame rate.
Final Sin frame rate is smooth.
Since Super Gore Nest Master Level has crappy frame rate it probably glitches the inputs and everything for some reason

I have started to just do two than swap to a different weapon
Anyway I was able to decimate everything on Final Sin with high armor and an extremely absurd amount of blood punches with my regular play style and the added Sticky Bombs punch swaps.

I did that with rocket not so long ago since I had rocket bound to scroll wheel and then you can't punch swap more than 2 rockets (didn't know it at the time)
I've got my FOV at 115, sensitivities at 100, and FPS at 90

I play on PC, have everything on low, turned down my gamma a little bit and my FOV is usually like 140 (with the help of console commands)

This is why: low settings barely makes the game look worse (I didn't notice any change), it increases your FPS which is good and it just generally makes the game more stable

sticky bombs is basically because it’s kinda stylish yea but I think I did a time comparison once that it’s only about 28% faster of a reload rate, compared to the rough numbers I got from the others compared to their base reload
Pb- 250% faster
rocket- roughly 250% faster as well
super shotgun - 210% faster
Ballista- around 190%, 240% faster with BATS from a weapon like heavy cannon
( I calculated these about a whole year ago so these could be inaccurate )
What's BATS
bring up animation transition switching, you transfer one weapons bring up speed to anothers, the most common form of this used is mod swap cancelling
Besides maybe doing regular melees on it
also this completely looked over frame ballista, which if even able to be given consistent measurements would definitely have the fastest comparison
You should see what punch swap SSG does to Doom Hunters when you have a blood punch , especially when they're frozen
I glory killed a Doom Hunter pretty much instantly when they're in ice bomb that way. They still had their sled too.

They just keep coming no matter what (except ice grenade)
It always did feel like enemies would randomly stay in stagger for long, and sometimes they feel like they reacted super fast.
Thought it was the game being jank, but I guess it's just different enemy having different values lol

Though I did notice a glitch in Blood Swamps where if you freeze the Baron right before he gets possessed, he'll have the spirit in him, but he won't have the spirit buffs or blue glow. It seems to be a consistent glitch too

Another glitch is, if you kill all the waves as much as you can while the second buff totem is active to the point where destroying the second buff totem is the only way to progress, then the spirit will target a random enemy that isn't the Baron after you destroy the buff totem and advance to the wave

I really questioned why the hell I wasn’t as easily able to zoom and stay in the air like all the other pro’s whenever I played: I used the meat hook, ballista ssg combo etc. basically everything for a pretty good player and then I realized that PC has advantages with their frames, like they stay so much longer in the air! I feel a bit cheated knowing that those advantages are hardware based but that won’t stop me from trying to get Ultra nightmare runs completed on console. Though it sucks that they’ve got more advantages like that -~-
Yeah it’s much more efficient than using both dashes at once
i'm pretty sure only the speed from meathook swinging is affected, not actually staying in the air longer
and on FPS focused console options you should still be able to zoom
Then what I must’ve seen is pro’s using the meathook +Air control to swing off of demons + Ballista and other combo weapons to keep their momentum and air control to confuse demon AI and easily shred through enemies I’m guessing
that's all possible on console
flicking into ballista is probably quite a bit harder but not slow enough to be impossible
I get destroyed by early levels on UN because everything can start going wrong all of a sudden
but when it comes to normal nightmare practice runs everything goes smooth like a butter

I went through cultist base flawlessly until the last Train Arena and then I just constantly fell into sudden bad opportunities “Whoops that revenant suddenly has aimbot from across the map, Whoops that armor pick up you wanted? There’s a mancubus there now get fucked lol, Whiplash screws all your momentum due to her stupid ass whip attack” And that Goddamm close range AOE attack is so annoying it makes me frustrated thinking about it. From the Mancubi I mean, both normal and Cyber
Smetimes on high FPS some enemies will charge insanely quick at you, but that is very rare
I believe the Doom hunter sometimes spasms and immediately agro’s on you sometimes because of that

whats the issue
So, I was wondering... Does the Ballista fire one projectile or two?
Because you would think it was just one, even if the visuals look like two... But I swear I've seen situations where I've damaged two enemies at once with it, but I can't tell if that was the second shot going through the first body, or if it's just the tiny amount of splash damage.
I do apologise if I am interrupting your conversation, however my game seems to be crashing a lot when I play The Holt level in The Ancient Gods Part One
I don't know why this happens, as this game doesn't crash much
It fires 1 projectile, the projectile deals 800 damage and splash deals 60
The enemy you shot at also takes the splash damage
So, I am hallucinating. Still, conceptually cool to have a massive burst-damage weapon that can carry some of its damage over to the next target if the first target is overkill
if ballista does enough damage to kill an enemy, it loses all collision that stops it and just infinitely goes through everything
you can actually use this to kill marauders through their shield and hit enemies through walls
I thought that was patched out
don't think it ever was, no real need for it either

Yeah. 5 levels are a very huge portion of the game though. (I'd say 6 though because of Argent Facility Destroyed)
2016 struck a great balance of exploration and linearity IMO
Doom 1993 Episode 1 was a very similar balance of exploration and linearity
5/13 levels isn't what I would call good balance, but it's still decent.

E1 is well regarded for being short and replayable. 2016 languishes and kinda dies out along the middle point.
6 because of Argent Facility Destroyed.... and that's around half of the game, especially since those levels are longer than the linear levels
there's just not many things for the game to do after destroyed Argent.
I don't count that because it's literally the same map from before with less bits to explore.
AF1 is great, AF2 not so much.
I do. It's changed flow and encounter design and progression to be fresh.
It's still a reused map with new enemies thrown in the mix. and with how lackluster I find the enemy roster to be in 2016, I'm not into it at all.
And if you don't count that, then that'd mean 2016 would have 12 levels that count, not 13
2016 has most of the same enemy types as DOOM II though.

revenants mostly scream and mancubi are just big.
the summoner playing the role of the arch-vile isn't very effective. it's very weak.
Cacos can kill you in one bite, lost souls one shot you, Barons fireballs are more accurate and powerful and bigger than imps. Cyber Mancs are extremely accurate at their hyper damage green goo sniper traps
Barons jump attacks are huge, same for their melees, and you don't have dash or meathook to dodge them for free
even barons which I found to be intimidating at a glance are kinda nothing because they're so slow and easy to sort out.
I mean they're better than Eternal Barons who do relatively pathetic damage and can't even touch you
Why would you let a cacodemon get that close to you in the first place?
They'll sneak up on you from behind often
When you're in a hefty fight
Eternal barons have landed good hits on me a number of times. can't say the same for 2016's.

the game accounts for you being able to dash to juice them up and so they're more fun to engage if anything. 2016's movement speed is geriartric and snail-like and it's one of my main the reasons it's so tough to go back to.

The only Barons that actually can do shit in Eternal is the possessed ones, otherwise they're a joke

They're a joke in either game, really. I just think they're more fun in Eternal because of your improved moveset.
It kinda makes sense, Doomguy's feet is still touching and landing on their extremely spikey and hard ass armor and they're going extremely fast.
in 2016 they're not much of anything, and they don't fill a niche in the combat roster.
Yep, we see movement with the shield in the trailer (diving into the ground with it) but not a shield bash or anything of the sort. I really hope we get something of the sort

Disagree, they one shot you, and have extreme accuracy and really good movement and pattern reading.
Their melees and jump attacks are also extremely hard to avoid.

They're much more accurate than imps, it's just there's way more imps at a time
? Enemies in 2016 have poor pattern reading and projectile speed, and barons are rare enough that you wouldn't notice either way. you'd probably die to being overrun or poorly equipped in the 3-4 instances they spawn in.
Eternal gotta lot of broken hitboxes too (both games have their share of poor hitboxes)
Their melee AOE is also smaller than it looks.
They do, but Eternal is at least trying to fix those shortcomings. it's one fault is being really buggy.

2016 has legit design, combat flow and progress mistakes, which is to be expected as their first foray into the series. Eternal also shits the bed when it comes to making enemy behavior consistent at high FPS, but that aside it's soundly designed.
There's a reason why 2016 Imps are considered deadly AF, and Barons are even more accurate than them.
Imps in 2016 have very high accuracy
Imps aren't really hard to dodge, provided you can juke them. And even then you can just keep your distance.
Idk...I can easily shit on and dodge everything Eternal throws at me, but 2016 on Nightmare still kicks my ass.
So I don't know what to tell you
Problem is 1) you're being pelted by fireballs as soon as a GK animation wraps up, and 2) your strafe speed is inexplicably slower than your forward sprint speed.
For me it's 75% imps and soldier spam, and 25% not having viable movement strats. Savagery helps somewhat, but it's still not ideal.
Also the final Argent D'Nur arena with the three Barons I die so many times on, and it's mostly because of the three Barons
so no news on modding (steamdb)

Last week, I died 10 times in that arena
Meanwhile I 100%ed Eternal in 5 hours 2 weeks ago without even coming close to dying to a single Baron
Didn't even die once in the Eternal playthrough at all.
Meanwhile just one singular 2016 arena killed me 10 times mostly because of Barons lol

Heat blast is also much better than the Eternal version
Significantly less shots to charge, can heat blast after any shot. Heat blast also charges in your pocket or passively, and it does much more damage and feels like it has more range than Eternal's

The arenas where really big which probably means a move away from tight, controlled arenas. We saw very little vertical movement let alone even ways to vertically move. More focus on mounted/mrch gameplay seems to also cater to people who don't care about actual gameplay but merely the spectacle of it all, with more focus on mount/mech combat also meaning they have less resources to perfect the standard combat
I don't want to say anything too early, but I believe I'm going to prefer eternal over the dark ages since I'm only here for the gameplay

which one? I chainsaw a lot of zombies in that level, also yea doom eternal is framerate dependent and things start to stop functioning entirely properly below 60 and things start getting basically a bit slow mo below 30

like if you have a way to test this, pretty much everything’s slower at low enough framerates, test your highest framerate against about like 20 or something and jump off a ledge with the same testing conditions you will most likely fall slower at 20FPS

250FPS is my standard, it’s the highest speedrunning rules allow, so it’s what I go with, although uncapped I can get a fairly consistent 400, sometimes 600+ if the place isn’t very resource consuming

granted they’re stationary but the fact still stands ( using the chaingun shields damage as reference since that’s the primary source of damage ) that in the span of 30 seconds, 100,000 damage was dealt
