I’m fairly good at this game but I think my concept of balancing in this game is totally busted as a result, I could make a better ruleset in my opinion, but better doesn’t mean good
he even made another version of Brawler called Brawler+ which bans the super shotgun 💀
Mayo has weird opinions on Eternal’s game design
he often says he likes getting absolutely destroyed
in his TAG 1 review he said “I got my ass kicked for half an hour in the final boss fight and it felt good”

remember when mayo posted a UN playthrough as one of his final pieces of content and it was slower than his “first ever UN clear” video?
Not saying he has to be a speedrunner or anything, I’d say the upper limit for campaign without skips and major glitches is like sub 3 hours at best, I just genuinely don’t know how 2 years later he managed to get slower
I just don’t get how Mayo likes using absolutely useless weapon mods
remote detonation rockets, micro missiles, both plasma rifle mods and full auto
I mean i get wanting to restrict your arsenal for a harder time but I feel like I’d resort to just using less weapons overall first than resort to changing my preference because of it
using full auto on heavily damaged heavies and super heavies to get a lot of shells seems to be… an interesting strat?
adding more things to the gameplay loop to make it seem more complicated than it really is
the truth is if you need a finisher to negate the ammo you’re going to lose from it, or need the ammo back on one specific weapon in particular, you’ve already failed at ammo conservation
I think you're looking at it the wrong way, he's just saying that he likes the way the game handles the difficulty jump from the base game and TAG1
I think it's fine to advertise the less commonly-used weapon mods and apart from his recommendation of Remote Detonation, I think it's all okay because I'm pretty sure most players would try it out and then drop it as they see that it's too much effort for very little gain
But for those who find it fun, it's nice to have some sort of validation form someone who has a following

about 20 per enemy when you kill them, could be different if it you take the armor that falls off them naturally without dealing damage
does the amount they drop over time subtract from what they drop when they're killed? is there a cap?
I am fairly confident the amount they drop subtracts from what they give when killed yes
Do you know if it's linear? Because looking at the declarations it would seem that it's just if you kill them they drop 20 total, as the end-all. But I swear I've gotten like 22 from them before and stuff

the DOT drops are tied to the cap, so the amount they drop on death will decrease linearly as they drop over time
BUT drops spawned from attacking them aren't tied to this cap, so if you smack em a bunch you can get extra
that would explain the 22 I got, 20 from the kill plus 2 from the attack that killed them
here's something neat
the SSG give you an extra 2 drops when you attack something on fire with it
like specifically defined for the flame belch, separate from the Meathook
and the BFG and Unmaykr drop 9 extra packs
actually if I'm reading this right the Unmaykr should just shit out armour over you if you use it with flame belch
9 extra drops per ht and it doesn't have the parameter to limit it per shot, meaning you could get 9 for each of the three projectiles
tho ig armour isn't really in short supply to begin with lol
I think my fingers are starting to remember where the weapons are on my keyboard. Changing and getting used to new keybindings is more painful than I thought it was going to be.
I think my main problem is, while I know how to quick scope and I know the rhythm of switching weapons, all that had completely gone out the window because I notice I'll constantly switch to the heavy cannon and go to snipe and nothing happens and by the time I realize the weapon didn't fire, I'm already witching to rockets or something else.
Also, I had to pop out my tilde key because I use tab to switch ice bomb and grenades and I hit it all the time. I think that was the absolute worse binding for the console and it's gotten me killed many, many times and I really want to just put it on like + at the other end of the keyboard because I'm salty at it.
Meathooking is actually weirdly hard to use in combat lmao

The double tyrant acid area(i didnt need it in the first completion but did it here because i didnt feel like doing allat) and the final arena on two archviles

that arena is honestly so annoying
genuinely like the archvile has so much hp and i tried lobing it twice before going onto the platform but he just teleports

Real stuff, bombing the tyrants with pb rocket while bouncing on the jump pad in the center was an interesting experience for sure

@rose thistle the newest version of the mod feels pretty good (haven't done that much testing yet) although when there is an rncounter with maykr drones it feels harder than normal nightmare
this would probably be because encounters with maykr drones are usually quite a bit harder but now the drones drop way less health

Hey wanted to ask, I am playing ancient gods part 1, and the slayer destroyed the father's orb, why so?
I saw hayden smiling but was he going to use the orb for himself
There is not a confirmed reason, but many can be inferred.
- The Father would have tried to stop the Slayer from reviving Davoth to kill him.
- The Father, per TAG's lore, was a coward who allowed Davoth to live, jumpstarting the events of the series.
- The Father being revived could have allowed the Maykrs to rebuild society, something that would be objectively awful.
I mean the Maykrs might not have been that awful if the Father was back, you said yourself they only started to suck once he went orb
the reason is the DLC was rushed and the writing suffered as a result
tag1 wasn't that rushed overall. Still a bit but it doesn't show it hugely

The Earth has been invaded for the last 13 years. Doomguy intends to stop it by killing the three Hell Priests that are enabling the invasion.

The most heavily-supported one is Elena Richardson's date of 2163- 2016 happens in 2149 or 2150, I forget which.
The other two dates are "a few months after 2016," given by the marketing, and a proposed date is 25 years after if you take the 25th Anniversary ARC banner as fact.

the more i play tag1, the more confident i become in the opinion that spirits just aren't worth microwaving
playing with a couple restrictions alongside no mwb and i don't feel like i need it
I mastered the chaingun but didn't get a skin
the spirit buffs themselves are great, they force you to change up your tactics
but the cute little minigame the devs came up with genuinely feels like a worse option than just killing whatever the spirit's trying to possess
well it depends on the situation. Sometimes that's not feasible.
i mean yeah mwb is mandatory for the samur fight
but otherwise it's really just not that relevant
i can think of a single instance in tag1 where i might prefer killing a spirit, the blood swamps left path trial arena
after breaking the 2nd buff totem, a possessed baron spawns and i'm not quite sure if the other baron within that wave spawns alongside it or after the possessed baron dies
if they spawn at the same time, then i consider mwb entirely irrelevant outside of the samur fight
just replayed deltas world spear ML and I died five times, 4 of those times were from the possessed blood maykrs at the end
overall I really like the ML
it's just the second part of the escelation encounter and the last arena that I don't enjoy

i reeeeally don't believe you're that limited relative to what's in said levels
and in the escelation encounter I'm pretty sure you get to face possessed marauders after the possessed blood maykrs
pb punchswapping becomes available as soon as level 1, multiblast/yeetblast can flat out carry your ass in level 2
and practically as soon as you get into cultist base, you gain access to pb sb quickswapping
your movement is strong as soon as the game starts, lurch hopping combined with the enemies being programmed to miss on purpose as long as you're moving makes this shit a joke
hmmm idk it's been like 4 months since I completed it so I can't remember much on its encounter design, but I remember the Escalation Encounter being my favorite part of the mod since it teleports you to different arenas throughout the map which was pretty epic.
I don't remember any part of it that was too difficult to take note of, I even played it with Horde Hammer.
I think I'm also kind of above average when it comes to flick shotting Blood Maykrs so maybe that also played a part?
I remembered wrong, the mayrks aren't possessed instead there is a screecher buff totem

I think you're remembering wrong, it doesn't teleport you to different arenas
however I still don't like the second part since it's just 4 or 5 blood mayrks, 3 marauders after that and at the end 2 possessed archviles

Yeah the medallion room is basically the giant roadblock for the level
My general tip would just be:
- Abuse the Chaingun Shield
- Always be moving around the arena
- Save Ice Bombs for the busy parts of the encounter
I got to when the buff totem opened up twice but died to a carcass and of course got stuck in the wall
I could make it there again but of course i died 10 times to barons and kept getting stuck because i was tired of this buggy ass game
You can try the level on Ultra-Violence first to get a feel of the enemy spawns
If you have an ice bomb ready, charging a Destroyer Blade shot might just be the difference maker

Yeah the game seems to get really really glitchy on Master Levels, probably because so much shit is happening at once so the game malfunctions. Not sure.
It's weird because TAG 1 feels a lot less glitchy than the Master Levels lol
the MLs aren't made for the new scenarios
Yeah. TN's has janky design imo and the fact that there are so many tight arenas in the ML might play into the getting stuck factor

getting close is really tempting to be able to bash out a lot of damage but in the end you getting too close usually is for the demons benefit, I myself actually struggle a bit with getting too close

yeah in tight arenas it's kind of inevitable that you get close to demons
TN ML def seems to love barons of hell tho for sure
one other thing that I noitce is that you don't seem to be that sure about what's around you, whether that's the arena itself or the demons running around, this leads to you getting cornered, getting in a position you don't want or simply being killed by enviromental hazards
but your quick switching looks nice

I dont really ever have a plan tbh. That leads to not having a bad habit of tryna fix a dying plan but also leaves me pretty vulnerable yeah
I don't feel like a plan has too much to do with this, it's more that you need to take in what's around you and know where you are going
but having a plan can for sure hep you with not getting cornered and stuff
This might be a sign for me to meditate and stop succumbing to pressure
tbh I feel like I've gotten into a bad habit of not having that much of a plan, I usually come in to an arena and think about what I wanna take out in what order and that's about it, I just let the rest come naturally

IIRC these were planned Maykr enemies that were cut from the game. They resembled giant crosses.

@rose thistle I barely take any damage in the later levels so I might not be the best judge but after tweaking my gameplay a little bit to include more glory killing your mod felt similar if not exactly like normal nightmare in terms of difficulty
just watching a video on cultist base and then doing a UN run might be a pretty good idea for me since I noticed that I didn't even come close to dying on final sin

I play since the start this awesome game, and my conclusion as a software developer is that the most important feature is missing : a forge mod!
When you know all enemy spawn and all the maps, the game lose a little his fun.
In example, in the Halo licence, the forge mod was so simple to use with friends, it has really made the life of the game longer, and really longer, and that only with the work of the community of players!
It was so simple for everyone to create a map with just 20 elements from a sandbox, and directly share it with all the other players.
Imagine this in Doom Eternal, it's the only way to do this game really Eternal, with an infinite possibility of fighting.
If you like the idea, please just add a 👍 to this post, and hope someone in Id Software will read it.
Because our fight is Eternal ❤️

It's a game mode where friends can create a custom map from a sandbox map. They can add basics predefined items for create floors, bridges, or any structures they want. Players can place spawn point as well. The mod is so simple to use, that every body can create a map. At the end, the player can save the map and share it with the whole community. It was integrated in the Halo games, and it was possible to do that online with friends, and without install complex software like Unreal Engine. And it was really fun to create maps with friends for the community.
People do custom maps, Unreclaimed Earth by idk929 for example, and if you're tired of the same spawns all over again and again, there's the Enemy Randomizer. As for playing with friends there's Battlemode, even modded Battlemode 3.0, besides that Doom Eternal is more of a single player game.
Mods obviously don't work on console though.

it’s one of my favorites, the only part of the level I don’t like is the double marauder encounter in the circle arena because there’s a shit load of fodder constantly surrounding them and hitting their shield so it’s harder than it needs to be to get good damage in
I like to use it as a proficiency test of sorts, if I can’t beat the level first try I’m rusty
from my experience sometimes if a imp hits a marauder he'll throw his shield up and spawn the dog at you

other than time constraints this makes logical sense, the fodder with the most health is shield soldiers/mecha zombies, 500 health, the enemy with the most stagger health is the archvile at 510, and they already had chainsaw animations for everything except superheavies and ambients

you can force that baron to spawn without the possession buffs by fighting two entire waves of buffed enemies 🌝
more specifically, if you kill the second wave of enemies in that arena (triggered by breaking the first totem) until there's only fodder left and then break the second totem, the possessed baron spawns with the spirit inside of it but doesn't get any of the buffs
sometimes the spirit spawns outside the baron and possesses a carcass
not 100% sure how I end up doing it but its probably a pathfinding bug
What's the best way to deal with the whiplash? I haven't been playing that long but I can't figure out the best way to kill them.

There are lots of options so it mostly depends on your situation, but here are a few alternatives: dblade, meathook and pb ssg, pb ballista or ballista punchswap, lock on burst or you could just use ice grenade and damage them however you want
Fully charged dblade kills them and second most charged puts them in a glory kill state

When starting out the whiplash is usually one of the most annoying enemies, but with time it becomes barely noticeable

some places that I remember just being annoying was when there was a totem that made enemies possessed and you couldn't breaak it so you had to go through first 1 doom hunter and a tyrant then 2 dread knights then a baron of hell then 2 mancubus and finally 2 marauders and all this in a tight corridor
and one of the last encounters was reallyyy long and at the end there was an unbreakable buff totem, 3 marauders and a respawning blood maykr
I'd say ssg ballista is better than pb considering how precise the pb shot is and how much whiplashes slither like idiots

Mastered no AC movement is wild. Hook flinging to gain velocity, landing a quick b hop string, then controlling your air direction with angled ballista boosts into more b hops, into single dashing

Lurch hops are a type of hop that gives you speed.
Those are based on height. So for however long you've been falling for will determine the amount of speed you'll gain from a hop after falling.
Lurch hops are pretty hard to get used to though

spirit buff- second priority I think
screecher buff- lowest priority I think
in the fortress of doom, go to the sentinel battery area where all the mod pods and runes can be unlocked, a big contraption should be there with a weapon inside of it
this Can an advantage sometimes because health pools aren’t changed with buff totem buffs, allowing you to kill possessed enemies faster than usual, don’t know any base game applications I can think of off the top of my head

overrall I thought it was fun and pretty balanced, I have played UN up until cultist base which felt the exact the as vanilla, final sin were I honestly take too little damage to be a good judge there it felt like vanilla, taras nabad where it maybe felt a little bit harder but not much and some modded levels, the modded levels varied a bit how balanced it felt tbh

one thing I noticed tho is that when there are maykr drones in a fight it usually feels a bit harder than vanilla since the drones don't even give half of what they normally do in terms of health
I think I've played most version except for version 4 and here I went of version 3.2
That's odd, the drones should give exactly half their usual drops. Unless I messed something up and they're only giving a quarter...
I think they gave 90 but that might be because I took a bit of damage while healing from them, but I don't think so since it was 90 pretty consistently
but it might be that drones only heal 180 hp but I'm pretty sure they give 200
I just dropped their pack count from 20 to 10, so if they were healing 10 health × 20 before it should be 10 × 10 now
oh and I've noticed that since damage go through your armor I've found that I'm quite consistently at more armor than HP which means that I have to change my playstyle a little bit to put demons into a glory kill state more often and glory kill more

literally ate it and immediately un-glory kill stated itself

Some of the all time classic glitches are blood punches constantly not working, or staggered enemies being blood punches instead of glory kills.
Also meathook not being responsive (especially on Doom Hunters and Pain Elementals), meathook constantly breaking, or meathook constantly glitching, turning into a noodle, or attaching to either random directions or attaching to the wrong enemy
eternal in ultra nightmare should be really a nightmare
Chainsaw either not working, or it targets the wrong enemy.
Sylar Lock on burst tech doesn't work half the time, or the lock on rockets targets the wrong enemy.
The game has a lot of issues with its targeting and lock on systems in general really

Mainly the fast monsters, they're a lot more predictable and don't move around as much so sometimes things just work out that they don't get in your way as much
True but you can play Ultra Violence with fast monsters too
Fast Archviles for example are a lot easier to deal with because they'll never flush you out of your cover if you show yourself properly

There's not really a best way, just an easiest way....but just bait him into green eyes and Ballista+SSG is the easiest way.
But the best way is basically complex one cycle and shield baiting stuff

And rocket launcher and sticky bomb and micro missiles splash damage on the ground can damage him
just wanted to also say that another quick way to kill the cacodemon apart from combat shotgun sticky grenade is by SSG meathooking them with the fire mod and blood punching them

meathook and lob rely on a thing called targeting points, set locations on each enemy model that the lock-on uses to figure out what you want to hit
i'm fairly certain every enemy only has a single targeting point despite adding more being entirely possible and a net positive

Unmaykr full auto kinda various laser beams weapon.
BFG is one big ball that will spread tendrils to target every enemy on the arena. So it's best to shoot the BFG up at the sky
And to shoot the Unmaykr directly at the enemies
you'd think it'd be obvious to just place the targeting point for each enemy near its center of mass but... id just didn't do that for whatever reason
this games so buggy but that’s also where some of the fun is

Meathook Nodes can be punched. Unlike other things without collision, it does take away the speed when you reach the lunge point. You can still boost off them with the use of collision.

here’s a dumb summary, basically when you go to punch an enemy, you lunge towards it, when you collide with the enemy, your momentum from that lunge is lost, but if it disconnects, you will maintain/redirect your speed, this can happen by putting geometry inbetween you and the enemy, having the enemies lunge point disappear mid boost ( usually can only happen with pinkies gibbing , and other such factors I don’t feel like remembering right now, punching off an enemy like you describe it is the punch lunging towards the enemy, but not colliding with the lunge point, redirecting your momentum, also two things. holding a movement key more than doubles the momentum acquired from this, preferred you use forward in specific because the punch boost will lock your camera in anyways. and it’s framerate dependent, not because the punch is faster, but because the disconnection in collision happens earlier on, I hope this summary helps out

The accidental punch boost stuff for me is generally nowhere near as ridiculous usually, but I know it's because of Console frame rate limitations, and that the game gets more broken on higher frame rates
consoles can go up to 120 fps

in which you can then use that to skip most of world spear if you go high enough
Especially with punch swap Ballista boosts
I think sometimes punch boosts send you flying that high too, so I suppose getting to the cutscene room might be possible on my system but very very hard
slope boosts? That’s not the right term for what you’re trying to say, slope boosts were patched out in 1.1, consoles do current patch, 6.66.2.2

Probably more like 20 FPS or something because it was on the World Spear Master Level which has significant frame drops
i was able to get a spirit tyrant low enough to stagger to 2 LOBs with bulldozer
I seen some people bulldozer a possessed Tyrant and then they die to a blood punch or something

The second clip is insane, the tyrant died before the bfg even hit it, the tendrils on their own doing 10000 isn't likely, so we can safely assume in the second clip that the energy shield bulldozer dealt an entire 90000 damage or more.
