Tyrants take increased damage from ssg pellets, but there is a cap to it. So you can do "full" ssg damage from a bit further ranges agains them.
However, this cap doesnt get removed while frozen meaning your ssg still do more damage per pellet actually, just with the same cape of 1600 damage

gk checks happen immediately on button press, while bp takes a while to become active

the gk "hitbox" also stays active for a good while after meleeing

so my guess is that you're just meleeing with such timing that you're getting the gk on the first possible frame, so the gk flash never shows up, while also cutting off the bp that would've come out
