With Doom Eternal you're getting a game that's way way way way better in every way, the Halo franchise has aged like yogurt sitting in the hot summer sun. The only saving grace is that on PC, Halo MCC has steam workshop mod support and the community has made some quite good stuff to improve the experience

I think a big part that also depends on just what you're willing to tolerate when it comes to older games. I think Halo 1-3 still hold up pretty well, they're new enough where they have a lot of the more modern feel that modern fps games have as opposed to something older like Wolf3D

Got to level 10 on Doom The Dark Ages after getting it. I'm really not a fan so far which is unfortunate.
I think it tries to be a variation of the formula Eternal had and it ends up making the same mistakes as DOOM 2016 did without much in the way of the positives that game had.

I think it tries to create a variation of Eternal'a formula in that you have a lot of tools and that all of them serve different purposes. My only issue is that the Dark Ages doesn't seem to balance it very well imo, because I've went a lot of this game so far using maybe one or two weapons and ever since I got the super shotgun, I've almost exclusively used that without much impedance on my performance.

This is due to TDA using "Play Styles" and "Kits" so your Melee weapons, guns and Runes, all Synergize to create a "Kit".
