The thing with sonic 1 is that you aren't supposed to be going fast by default, sonic 1s gameplay loop is built on the concept or running through mario 1-1 every time and getting faster at it every time
Speed is a reward of skillful play and knowing the level, not something that's to be handed to you and expected on a blind run

Like even a lot of the stop and go moments of sonic 1 usually have some easy way around them, marble zone teaches you this
When you're waiting on a slow platform to ride across the lava? Most of those have an alternate route, or you can simply jump ahead if you time it right to skip it

Which is why the stuff I mentioned is good, most of it. FNaF has started appealing to kids lately, but the franchise is so long you can just ignore those games if you so wish to and still get lots of content. Bendy was child-friendly at first, but Bendy and the Dark Revival was grim as fuck and I loved it, and B3NDY is apparently going to be full-on M-rated. Baldi is a parody so it's obviously not scary, Granny can be scary but at some point it gets more about strategy, and it's fun in that. Hello Neighbor isn't really scary, the story is a clusterfuck but if you connect the story and try to make sense of it it's actually not as bad as people make it out to me. The games are hot garbage though, and like I said, that's why I like them lol
