on max sliders yeah he's tough-ish, still easy compared to the rest of the game
but ahzrak literally just instakills you on max sliders lol

i struggled with kreed until realized you could shield throw to destroy those moving things that emit electricity. i kept constantly shooting and dodging them, which is way harder

well anyway, my favorite rune is the lightning one, that one has saved me so many times
i always miss the drama
The lightning one is bonkers ngl, used it a lot in my first playthrough
arguably the best one in most scenarios
i also like the ground shatter one too.. good source of armor when fully upgraded

whats your mindset or process when youre designing arenas id love to engage with that side of the game but i dont even kmow where to start in terms of making a hard but fair arena
me personally, the mindset i take for my arenas (biased cause i like them a lot) is to ensure you know how each enemy is gonna interact with each other, i'll take my recent one for example, in Round 4 of my "Revival of The Fittest" i use two standard cyber demons as basically turrets to protect a Vagary Champion, you gotta try and think like an id dev
it's all about balancing fodder with heavys, and balancing heavys with super heavys

ive played the game a lot more since the first time i tried making an arena so ive gotten a better understanding of enemy behavior
the first time i tried making an arena with vagaries, barons, and hunters but i didnt have a good enough understanding of the gameplay loop to make it work😅
exactly, the enemy AI may not act like it, but they do work together in amazing ways, and it's because of their individuality, Imp stalkers are slow with a high speed lung when close, so for example you'd combine imp stalkers slowness with the speed of another heavy demon, like a revenant, this ensures a balance of sorts
id love to play some of your arenas but i dont have working internet on my pc rn so youd have to give me the specific enemy values for your presets instead of sending a preset
or something that demands focus like a baron so they creep up on you if you arent careful

i gotta play some ripatorium when i can again so i can see what you guys have come up with since the games come out
and i'll give you some advice, mainly for the "testing" and "approval" process, my personal way of testing and what makes me approve an arena is a simple 3 strikes system
I get three chances, if i die in the arena 3 times, then it needs to be reworked or nerfed
if i win within those three tries, it can be approved
i base my presets on my own skill, no BFC at all for me
oh! and i recommend testing presets on Ultra Violence, as Ultra Violence is the standard for MOST players

I kinda hope the Archvile is less of a push over in the DLC than in Eternal, Archvile in Eternal was more annoying than hard to fight, his barrier had zero impact on protecting him, like, a single blood punch can break it, and im kinda hoping for that one attack where he locks onto you and summons a burst of fire under your feet that explodes
oh, and Pain Elementals, if they return, please make the lost souls actually dangerous when it uses them, in eternal (unless they fixed it) had really buggy homing traits to the point where they'd get stuck in mid air
Yeah, archvile in eternal, once you know where they will spawn, you can quickly skip their summons with grenade to falter, pb > launcher lock on x2
hugo also mentioned on Viddaz's stream yesterday and i quote:
"i already said the archvile is in the DLC so no reveals here but rn now he’s a bit more frustrating the fun. he should be hard but he does this one attack thats over tuned. We’ll get it."

there's like 5 million things that gets polished and some part of it probably needs something else to be polished first and etc etc
the fact that they're fine tuning enemies and objective pathing makes it seem like they're very close to being done, but they could also have a mountain of other shit to polish as well

gotta also keep in mind that they will be polishing the dlc until the very last second its out, so an announcement during this polishing phase is guaranteed, just a matter of time 🙂

I don't know how much this applies to AAA dev, but for indie development I've heard some refer to the polishing phase's length as 20/80. around 20% of the work, but roughly 80% of the dev time

Path tracing’s optimization right now is about where RT’s optimization was 5-6 years ago
framegen still has room to improve but u have that in the meantime ig, 2x framegen feels pretty good imo
PT in this game is very much a “for shits and giggles” setting, like RT was in eternal—doesn’t make the game look much better and it absolutely murders your frame rates
i wish the base ray tracing could be turned off too
i hate the volumetric noise and the performance impact of it

the game is already big size-wise cuz of the high res textures and the huge areas, without the space saved from not having to include light maps it would probably be insanely large and they’d have to compromise in some other area
path tracing doesn't give me enough of a visual upgrade to turn on
it brings my fps down to 50-60
And it runs well on my my machine, so no harm no foul
i feel like forced RT will be adopted by more and more games eventually

although frame gen doesn't actually add that much latency it does add some compared to ur base fps due to the added processing power

and theres one of those eye gates to throw your shield into that opens it
shoulder gun should've done more :/ maybe flaming bullets for armor and health
yeah. just the fact that you have to consciously aim it already puts it a clear level below the others that dont require any extra thinking after the parry hits
that is weird how it requires you to aim while the game kinda teaches you to switch targets to prioritize heavy hitters..
It seems as if the shoulder turret was originally its own thing instead of a Shield Rune, which sort of explains why it's a bit basic compared to the others. my personal theory is that the shoulder turret was originally created as a way for players to continuously dish out damage while blocking, but who knows
i'd rather wait more and have a better running game without ray trace artifacts..
hmm.. makes me wonder why it was scrapped.. maybe they figured it was too many buttons to press and manage? i mean.. imagine blocking, then needing to press and hold another button while continuing to block, and moving and managing all the enemies
next time you interview Hugo, ask him about that im curious to know
this and the caco's minigame-esq shield wall attack makes me feel like the combat pacing was slower at some point in development, leading to more scenarios where you'd need to hold block during combat instead of rushing forwards and attacking head on. If this is true, then I'd imagine the on-demand shoulder turret served little purpose after they made the switch to a faster loop that requires practically no block holding. Not a ton of evidence to support that though

i'd definitely watch a live showing of some beta footage if there's anymore that hasn't been revealed, i've seen SOME where standard glory kills were present
i've seen some where an Axe was involved and the gameplay was similar to the marauders in battle mode, a lot of the glory kills from the beta footage are gnarly

SSG reload animation was faster in general back then. Considering the Slayer concepts revolved around Jetpacks and all, maybe pre production phase saw Slayer being faster but grounded than his released version(very much like Eternal Slayer but grounded)

honestly I'm not sure, but I have faith they'll innovate on the current system instead of just going back to the old one. I've played Eternal a decent amount this past month (around four hours total) and I don't miss the stop-and-go nature of synced glory kills.
The animations themselves are wicked, but in a game like Doom it's the combat that matters above all else

very true, on an animation stand point, it's amazing to see all the details, like the real fear on an imps face, or when you kill a marauder with his own axe and he tries to look up at you and his face is just "oh shit"

I am in love with the shield and Spoiler: ||||Serrat's death pissed me off in a I felt the slayer's anger way. I locked in during the final boss fight after that. Man why does the slayer have to lose his pets. Didn't the demons get the memo that killing the slayer's pets only makes him a bigger and angrier threat after daisy.||
my only complaint is the exploration at times I felt like I do a lot of back tracking to get the secrets. I stopped searching for materials after I got the upgrades I wanted. Eternal's exploration felt better but thats probably because all of the movement kits slayer had in that game IDK
Also gotta ask, how yall played TDA? I only sticked with couple of weapons and barely switched to the alternative weapons in the same class.

I still like ultra violence as my comfort zone in each game. Not too hard and not too easy. I like nightmare as a challenge but its much more stressful compared to UV so I usually stick to UV for most of the time like horde mode in eternal
i like nightmare, i feel like it forces you to understand the game and really engage with it

The game looks great normally but in steam recordings there’s some artifacting
Although if you have dlss enabled then it’s worth a shot to try switching upscalers

i tried all of them and nothing changes
in fact i get a lot worse performance and everything looks worse
