i need that
Duck: The Dark Ages
In the first lake, in the first paddle, when the streams first lengthened, one quacked
Does the dark ages ever go on sale on ps5?
Yes
How often?
It had one quite recently
Oh man I missed out then 😭
However often most ps5 games tend to go on sale
My next guesses would be a spring sale soonish. Or summer games fest.
Spring sale more likely
Ohhh ok thanks!
Or may for the 1 year anniversary
Since it just had a sale probably not this month but still possible
I had to do it #screenshots message
i wish there was a more bronzer armor recolor for the TDA doomslayer armor
time to grind the weapon skins
ohhh thats cool
hmm im wondering if World Spear is like the only Doom Eternal level that could be ported to TDA without the arena design being too much of a problem cause like, most world spear arenas are TDA like (super flat)
the arenas that are too vertical (aka good for Eternal, bad for TDA) could just be skipped/no combat in them
there is stream?
not announced yet but probably
sometimes they announce it pretty late
it'll be at 10pm because timezones went back an hour
hey its twitter news guy
yeah 11pm here
lol
wait 11pm? oh my fault lol
nah for u in the uk it would be 10
oh so 8pm for me
wait where do you live then? if you don't mind me asking
Norway
oh damn
are they going back to doom 3? also we really need a full 2016 Run
Is the Hugo launching tonight? Wanna see him tackle some more ripatorium
prob just witchfire for now
Join us at 6pm ET for a 60-min master class on playing HordeModeGaming's Ripatorium 2.0 encounter:
"Countdown to Death" ⌛☠️
HD: https://t.co/wbaEAaiWs0
4K: https://t.co/x6KPGOxIW3
w hordemode though
I hope Serrat comes back. I enjoyed the flying sections.
I mean Serrat survived worse according to the entry.
Plus I doubt they spent so much dev time on the flying sections only to use them so little.
bringing him back would make his death have no impact and that would feel like shit
if they are doing ng+, i think they are gonna be improving them for replayability imo
It lowkey didn't have too much impact. It was in the last minute and it felt kinda cheap.
I just want harder, bullet hell like flying sections ngl.
maybe they'll bring those sections closer to what they were supposed to be before they stripped them down later in development
no but i just mean killing him makes no sense if he is coming back
it is supposed to be an impactful moment, whether or not they achieved it is smth else but thats nothing to do with the actual death itself
him being killed off felt like a definitive thing
Changing the context to him being grievously wounded rather than fully dead would still keep the impact. If the Slayer would've lost that would mean certain death for the dragon. I see your point but this fucking dragon, I can't let go. He's so cool and underutilized. Give him a second chance Hugo!
HUGO MARTIN, BRING SERRAT BACK IN THE DLC AND MY LIFE IS YOURS!
hi guys
hi LM 👋
sup king
waiting on the hugo stream, what about you bro?
hello yall
oh right, it's Thursday lol. I just got home from work and it feels so late. @supple oracle wanna watch?
hey doc!
why not
Hope your day went well!
It did, thank you friend
Oh wait we in official doom server, I though we in another server LOL
hope you're having a good day too
Gotta hit a necessary all nighter but we chilling
Real
We're all watching tonight's stream it seems
Ye, Just got home, doing some clean up rn
Coolio hoolio
i did the same and im dying
I wonder what the one word DLC nugget that contain two words but somehow it one word
napped for a few hrs until there was a fire alarm randomly started in our apartment building
Huh? Fire alarm tf happened?
idk, it stopped right after so it was solved quick lol
student apartment building moment
i cant begin to count how many times ive heard this alarm the past 4+ years
Literally whatever a person must experience once entering student apartments
It might be y'all's wake-up call atp🥀
u have no idea how ass it feels to wake up to this loudass alarm, its insanely loud
but yeah back to dark ages
rookie, I know exactly how it feel LOL
Saleem ball knowledge required to understand the statement made by Goat
what is that mean?? 😂
I think my knowledge can't go futher then this lol
Exactly
Only a selected few have this knowledge
Magnificent gif
Oh yeahh I get it now LOL
DOOM time
Since countdown to death is one round I imagine this might be a shorter stream
yeah, 60 minutes
Hud is very cool
hub*
Autocorrect lol
I wonder if the hub is different from what we expect 🤔 the discussion of the design of it sounds like it’s something we haven’t seen before.
Obviously it could easily refer to new parts of the Kreed’s ship that we have yet to see, but it still makes me wonder
Just sounds like theres things you can unlock, secrets u can find, etc
Similar to Eternal's hub really
did the stream start an hour earlier than usual today? Logged in and I'm an hour behind lol
North America Has time change
HORDE MADE IT
oof, gonna have to adjust my time too then lol

Bro they've just been yapping for a straight hour
give me the nuggets please
NOOOOOO william bao is moving to a different studio
That's crazy man
wait who?
That explains his insta of looking for id hiring a new concept artist
William Bao, amazing concept artist
james something
Indeed, his Signature clothing item is probably my favourite in the collection
and uh why was it only an hour?
oh fuck... that's actually so sad
Slayers Club Live Chapter 22 Stream Notes:
HUB expands and unfolds in interesting ways, with some secrets to find. Exploration tied to the new tool, which people are “starting to figure out”.
Small mention of the Kreed at the beginning of the DLC, will also go into the politics of the Khan and how she feels about certain things
Hugo is returning to work on the dlc
back to the mines guys
Buh bye William Bao, your contributions will be remembered for eternity
Annoyed with myself for missing most of the stream but at least it wasn't a very long one. Can probably get caught up tomorrow
ahhhh, thanks horde!! yeah i missed the stream, i fell asleep
Sounds like they are working overtime like crazy lol, surely can't be that far away now
"Starting to figure it out" its the spear lmao
ong shit sounds really close
Shoutout to William Bao
Hugo said they're coming up on a milestone, so I wonder if that's something along the lines of a pre-release milestone. Like entering the final stretch
He mentioned they got a milestone coming up, aka the release of the dlc. Idk from him talking it doesn't sound too far away
Lmao yes
DOOM Year Zero...
Hmm perhaps a May release would be very likely
this is funny lol. every other stream we alternate between "probably won't see it until like june" and "it's coming next week"
atm yea May sounds more likely
the DLC will release on the 31st of April
trailer at the end of this month or early next month? maybe
A trailer maybe in April?
Yeah I think we'll actually see something late April at the earliest it seems
Yeah again very likely
Im very surprised they haven't been showing any sort of concept art for the dlc since the first one
Could be something small
I mean given the info we got..... dont think they have too lol
until hugo gets on stream next week and says "don't get too excited guys, trailer is still a few months away"
Hopefully
Yeah, just surprised they tell us so much about it instead of teasing some visual stuff instead, hugo been spilling too many beans
The nuggets are nukes themselves. Dropping another concept art would get Hugo blasted off to the innermost chambers of Microsoft dungeon
Not sure. Hugo DID say that there's a lot of places in Hell in the earlier TDA streams. Probably best for all of us to experience it fresh
Yh I just meant instead of the nuggets
A few months away...
We'll be experiencing a meltdown here first hand
Oh word, yeah at this point I'm excited but also worried about how much are we gonna know about the DLC before we even see the trailer at this point. The good thing is that it sounds like they're just about wrapping up in the final stages I think
i am dumb, what even is a milestone in that context
nvm
Did he say it's for the release of the dlc?
no but uh... can't be much else, can it
Ok
@warm ibex do u randomly have a timestamp of when he mentioned the milestone thing
someone commented on my post saying that the milestone is the 10th anniversary for 2016 but i wanted to make sure he specifically talked about the milestone related to the dlc lol
I'm a bit occupied at the moment, but he said it in the last five minutes or so
also rewatching the part about the hub, sounds like the new "toy" will be unlockable in the hub similar to the unmaykr in eternal's hub
at least thats my interpretation
yeah actually what does milestone mean lol sorry
was talking to someone just now, doesnt necessarily mean release
can be just progress milestones not related to any release or announcement
either way, the dlc is getting closer and closer for sure
I figured u knew that
ye idk i was just tunnelvisioned onto the release or some potential announcement, mb
ur good bro
DOOM: The Dark Ages has won 4 awards at Navgtr! (Only 3 are shown atm)
never heard of them before lol
hell yeah!
was busy, you guys get the new dlc nuggets?
oooh what for?
- Best Lighting
- Best Texturing
- Best Engineering
- Best Control Precision
feed me
HUB expands and unfolds in interesting ways, with some secrets to find. Exploration tied to the new tool, which people are “starting to figure out”.

@elder raven
oh
all good lol
Dark Ages was the third most awarded game for their show (E33 was first)
Is DOOM Tda special
What
why does it have its own category
That due to the Ripatorium
So we can share our Pre-sets
shes gonna be like “sorry to hear about the fallen sentinels guys… they get 5 big booms.” and is gonna be seething because the kreed cant do shit right
The National Academy of Video Game Trade Reviewer
Started in 2001
live long John Carmack and his legacy
@obsidian shard hey bro, didn't Hugo say today that the DLC will have 27 hours worth of gameplay? Or have I misunderstood? I left the video play in the background so idk
That was a joke lol
yeah I was skeptical too
y'all. #merch-showcase message
ok i tried to design my first preset for ripatorium and figured out that acolyte + 2 agaddon hunters is too much
but it's doable

you'd be surprised by how enemy spawn placements can dictate difficulty
yeah
an acolyte and two hunters might be easy as hell
as long as the acolyte spawns within shield throw/bash range and the hunters don't spawn on top of you
well looking at city of ry'uul and how it's the most claustrophobic arena this might be a problem as well
on other arenas it's gotta be easier cause you have more space for movement
i mostly play on ry'uul tho
just wanna design some really hard encounters
tho shocker rune is like a legal cheatcode honestly lol
heaven splitter and holy swarm are so much stronger than the other two it's not even funny
i think shoulder gun is the weakest one
yes
the problem with the ripatorium is that a preset can be balanced around certain runes/melee but at the same time be 3x harder with different setups
if you're using holy swarm or heaven splitter + dreadmace, any given encounter is just going to be flat out easier than using even the gauntlets + ground fissure
well you can choose runes and melee during fight
obviously
my point is that the rune and melee balancing sucks
on paper the gauntlets might be around the same level as the dreadmace, but in practice in a crowded arena the two aren't even close
the mace just requires one swing and you can often get it off even if the target isn't faltered, while gauntlets actually require commitment and timing to use
and don't even get me started on the flail
kinda weird decision of devs ngl
not really
the hotkey is just meant to simulate going to the menu and manually changing melee
it's not meant to change the gameplay paradigm
i'll get if there was a thing only for dreadmace
but at least you need to have at least one melee point for power gauntlet and flail
like I said, it's a convenience option, it's not meant to turn melee and rune swapping into a part of combat
i did personally find flail and fists useful, the Mace is OP but given melee is used to restore ammo it can be dangerous
holy shit its hordemodegaming
so what did hugo say
@final dune
thanks
okay what in the fuck why are my parries lowk not working
im at max speed, i click the parry button and it just doesnt work and my shield breaks? I have the parry at minimum window but im legitimately lost when my parry misses cause i dont know what I do wrong, sometimes I pull it at the last possible second and it breaks, sometimes I do it right when it seems the enemy is attacking but it just breaks, like whats this telegraphing i legitimately dont understand this, it happens alot with aggadons and cosmic barons third attack (ground slam)
like my problem right now is that i dont understand what counts as a failed parry
kaibz mod got u covered
its just all in the timing
150% is also known to be a bit buggy with the parries at times since its not exactly meant to be played at that speed originally
and there is a bug sometimes where youll get the parry but the damage will go through anyway
but its still just about learning the timings. i see plenty of ppl play at 150% and consistently parry
Really?
Maybe they are already at the final stage of development..
dunno if those were even meant to be balanced. it's a progression that you unlock through the campaign. ofc in ripatorium it doesn't make sense in the same way
yeah like the ripatorium is just a fun sandbox mode. hard to balance that when its not the main part of the game
and i dont think there should be any need to balance it either
Or they're working overtime to reach a milestone on time
Crunches are bad
well they have to get it ready for wednesday
What happens wednesday
Did they reveal anything yesterday on stream?
wednesday
aha
maybe i just need to see a video with the inputs pressed shown so i can see when i need to press the parry key
It’s coming tomorrow 🗿
wednesday bro
cause lowk, I'll parry 3 aggadon strikes perfectly and then out of nowhere I'll miss the unmissable by pressing something at a wrong time? Like I just don't what what the wrong timing is
originally i thought it was I held the shield up for too long, so i decided to opt for clicking instead of holding the parry
but even then this didn't work many times, my shield just broke
so you feel like something changed in the timing or has it been a consistent problem for you?
ever since i started playing on 150% speed something has been amiss with the parries and I don't understand what im doing wrong
i have the smallest parry window too
prob just the 150% being that way. for some reason i start fumbling the cyber demon parries at that speed. no problem at lower speeds or with other enemies lol
the parries that are 50/50 on 150 speed always tend to be either Cyberdemons, Barons or Aggadons
I'll seem to do everything right but my shield breaks I just don't understand why
hey, is this a bug or a feature in the game: i have completed the campaign once before and i stared a new campaign months later and it whenever i check the automap in the beginning of a mission it shows i have already picked up rubies, powerups from bosses and the gold but whenever i run around they clearly aren't picked up
It’s a bug that they are currently working on
ah cheers for the info
Where doom
under your desk! LOL!
right here!
Above you
I just want a good gameplay personally, i couldn't care less about story in a doom
Just make a good dlc without rinse and repeat gimmicks or turrets section or whatever and i'll be sold
in spire of nerathul theres a landing spot just off-map, is it a secret or a bug?
There are no excuses for the turret section
If they didn't know how to do a good fight against a Titan on foot, they should have animated a short cinematic where the Slayer one-shots it

i cant paste the image but its off-map and way below anything else accessable
most likely a secret
serrat time
its in the flying section though
you gotta get there using serrat
but its outside of the map. far outside
you can send the image in a chat outside of the server, open in browser, then copy the image link and paste it here
will display as an image
Have you gone through the tunnels with the dragon
yeah, the one in the nearest tunnel leads to a locked gate that blocks a landing pad that is marked as complete
There are two wraithstones that you don't have yet, might be related to those. I honestly can't remember
it was, tiny tucked away pit in the middle of nowhere
thanks!
no problem!
DOOOOM
You guys think that since the DLC is confirmed to have Metroidvania elements that the levels will be few but massive?
Like Returnal, the game has like 4 levels but they're huge and some parts of the map can't be accessed until you have a tool or ability of sorts
At least thats the mindset I'm gonna expect, either way I'm still hyped for what ids been working on
yes, could very well be something like that
we shall see
okay so my new early game strat is to slaughter the fodder before the heavier demons bc lowk their fire will be more dangerous than the heavy fire
Oh oh, "that" happened.
it legitimately makes encounters way less stressfull lol
fodder fire is so dangerous in early game in comparison to most heavy sources of fire
i played hebeth with this new mindset and got pretty far
honestly that is kinda what I'm expecting
I love not dying once in a stage but having low health so many times I question if i deserved to survive
sentinel barracks is pretty cool but much like every modern doom game the Slayer is made of paper mache at the start, 150% speed with other non beneficial sliders at max can be troublesome in the early game more than late game
soldiers can rot in hell
same
...well have I got some good news for you 😛
I made this after the game came out but never thought of sharing it here
Before any patches or ripatorium
A new one since all the updates would be good,
Just skimmed thru the vid and pretty good vid
Tho the "Beat the game in a week" bit is really funny to me cause Requiem is a "Short" Game and it didn't get much hate for that like Dark Ages did
Music I Agree with, it was MID at launch, Update 2 improved it alot and its became my fav OST since! (mixing and loudness was greatly improved-still think its too quite but its fixable in the settings)
Thanks for watching 🙂 good points
The sticking to weapons thing is def very prevalent lol
holy city of Aratum still my favorite early game level
massive, varied, you unlock the ssg, it's just so awesome
its so awesome infact even in my hasty first playthrough it felt amazing
i lowk forgot what level came next
oh seige part 1
actually no, I don't have much problem with this level anymore, here I go
this may be the new cultist base but god damn it is it cool
but since now I don't use the chainshot much it may be a problem who knowd
i absolutely adore the concept of siege to its very core, "they're around the city, kill them"
i forgot ahzrak aura farms here lol
and i died to one arachnotron mine spam, i charged at him and the cocksucker threw the mines and i was down to 5 health almost instantanousley and they got a free hit in after
legitimately the mines can go kill themselves why do they deal so much damage
yeah I love Aratum
my only little gripe is having to repeat the dragon tutorial segment every time
it's not even the damage, it's the absolutely absurd range/area they can cover with them
in outdoor open arenas they're not horrendous but in enclosed areas it's almost unavoidable damage at times
basically
I finished sentinel command station with the unbalanced randomizer a couple days ago
the number of armored arachnotrons that spawned was pure pain
oh i just survived a really stupid occurence, basically the leader mancubus was moving forward and attacking me while the cyberdemon was on my ass, so i couldnt go close range and I had to stick to impaler mid range and ocasional close range parry while the unkillable mortar mancubus was on my ass
you mean armored mancubus
yeah that one
ah yes, one of the few enemies hardcoded to have their projectiles pass through other enemy AI
for some godforsaken reason
this is how you know these guys are the same people who coded the marauder lmao
i survived, but if i was less experienced id say the game was giving me the middle finger for some reason
real af
and the funniest thing is that I know for a fact that it's on purpose
because the projectile file literally has a line that says
passThroughEnemies = true;
ragebaiting of the highest order
indeed
okay i just beat seige part 1 without dying again, without chainshot, every encounter and all gold, honestly this level is awesome if a hassle on first playthroughs
better than aratum? Idk but its still pretty fucking awesome
much like Doom Hunter Base, Seige part 1 is basically the ''busts your balls on the first playthroughs but after you get good their really fun''
kinda same for cultist base but well, Doom Hunter Base is just better by a noticeable margin
on my first playthrough of eternal I only found the very first big arena of doom hunter base to be hard
oh and the stupid red electric wall part
i found doom hunter boss hard bc i wasnt paying attention to anything the game told me
pure evil of a section
these days when im slacking the only ''hard'' part of hunter base is the first arena
otherwise, yeah, fun much like seige part 1 after practice
now, for part two, lets see if i survive the final arena first try lol
the final arena of siege 2 is fucked
indeed
that goes for any arena that's long and narrow like that
one of the arenas in ancestral forge with the cyberdemon is cooked for the same reason
one thing i love about seige and alot of tda missions in general is that the killing of demons is the achievment, not getting some doohickey or just killing part of an endless horde, by killing in lets say seige part 1 you are literally giving the Sentinels time to escape
real
Cultist Base pit
the sheer number of environmental hazards in eternal pisses me off
In Eternal its heavily stated the killing of demons itself is pointless cause of the endless hordes, but in tda those demons you kill matter far more, feels way more immersive than doohickey/person search
especially the ones in between combat arenas
this is the same person that beat 2016 un btw
real
clearly traumatized by stage hazards
because not missing jumps in 2016 isn't actually that hard
i personally love eternals enviromental hazards
in eternal there's a million different platforming sections and istg half of them have some sort of fire walls or damaging floor
i love em
in the later levels they're little more than an inconvenience, but in cultist base where you've got manc fireballs that deal your whole health bar, they're a bit more than that
the difference between starting a fight with full armor vs low or no armor is enormous
even the touch that the hell-portals automatically collapse when the enemies around them are all dead kinda reinforce that feeling
It’s so fun restarting a secret encounter after you already got your ass kicked by it
like you're also achieving something bigger just by killing the demons
tbh the only difficult secret encounter in all of eternal is the second one in cultist base with the manc and the two whiplashes
mostly because you're stuck in a tiny room with a fucking manc and two whiplashes
I’m just bad at gaming idk
Manc #1 for a reason
this is true
they wouldn't even be that bad in cultist/DH base if the goddamn game let you get a sentinel crystal before cultist base instead of blueballing you and then giving you 2 before SGN
me ranting about eternal because the early game UN is such a pain
plus it hits you with a potentially run-ending bug like every 30 minutes
this is true though, arc complex fucked me over twice with glitches in my un runs
also i ABSOLUTELY stomped the final encounter holy shit
not even low health, no orb required
yeah i love this level now
trick is to shield saw the fodder first, keep it mid to close range with the Cyberdemon and watch for the hellknights, then once the leader battle knight shows up you need to pull back to an emptier area of the arena so its a 3 v 1, no fodder and you just focus on parrying+ssg with armor breaking upgrades and you should be good
i did it so fast the arachnotron didnt even show up in time to do anything
I should probably try it again on 250% damage and see how easy it is
Exultia YOU BASTARD
EXULTIA IS FINE EVEN IF ITS MIIIIDDD I SWEAARRR
im just biased cause its on argent d'nur and i like how it looks
exultia is mid
but sans the slayer gate it's also not very difficult
I think its a great level, Just the bugs
im dark aging rn
honestly my most fun playthrough thus far and its the hardest one ive tried too
300% damage is the true way to play nightmare, I'm convinced
game really starts becoming fun once you reach aratum and some arenas in sentinel barracks are cool ig
im fine with 250% damage to player like im doing rn
I used to not like aratum that much because the dragon was annoying when you didn't know where you were going
but now I know where to go the dragon is just another way of getting from point a to b, so it's fun
what, do 120 damage nightmare imp melee attacks not sound fun to you?
UNing tda on 300% damage might be my best gaming achievement ever tbh
whats this 2016 nightmare
I actually don't think there are any attacks in 2016 that deal that much damage
well, scratch that
the cyberdemon's blade attack deals 120 for some fucking reason (and he tosses out three of them in a row in his second phase)
but I honestly think that's it
but some of the superheavy parryable attacks in tda can get pretty absurd
I know the agaddon overhead swing and the komodo ground smash deal absolutely absurd damage if they somehow end up hitting you
y'know, I should make a little list of the hardest hitting attacks in TDA
would be interesting
noooo the arena ending right as the best part of unchained predator playeeed nnooooo
have we gotten any new info on the dlc release date?
feel like ive been waiting forever
nothing yet, Let id COOK,
Best to be patient, its confirmed for this year tho!
Current est of Release Date/Trailer is May/June
Bro w boss better than eternal's
i was fighting a cybedemon and right as i was about to kill me a mancubus appeared behind me and left me at 5 health but i survived
both games bosses are good im afraid
Like no offense final sin is goated but ahzrak n witch is peak
my favourite eternal bosses are doom hunter and gladiator anyways, final sin is good enough but not much more than that
Plus chapter 21 is the old one and enhanced ahzrak
khan makyr is too much of a joke to be considered a boss
Final sin is just shooting a big fat guy while killing demons gladiator is sick too
Hot take but when they make "bosses" become common occurrences it's lowk annoying and ruins the hype 4 me
true hot take
i love when bosses become normal enemies, showcases your increase in power and adds to the gameplay loop
when you first fight them its a boss due to your current slayer power, but when you fight them again stronger, they become a mini boss
okay ancestral forge is just a little less interesting than the previous four levels
it also has like two arenas that are a bit odd but manageable
ancestral forges main drawback is that due to the fog and pov inside the corpose of the ancestral half of the level looks like a incomprehensible mess of a cave with nothing too remarkable
its the most basic mine at face value, it has some cool details but it just looks like the average cave for most of the level
it only gets interesting once you near the mechanical parts of the stage
The cyberdemon leader seeing me steadily kill every single support demon around him as the inevitable 1v1 arrives
(He’s quivering because his buff hasn’t come yet)
Did they add a voiceline to the end of the Khalim?
"All of hell will know of your victory here today"
Who said this?
no idea, subtitles are of
Oh it might be because of KaibzMod which I have skipped turret sections on
The Witch when you lose in "Ahzrak and The Witch"
vilage of khalim thugh
I guess it just got added cuz i skipped the trret section
Ye
i'm so good at doom tda that my 'hey wouldn't it be funny if i did a UN run out of nowhere with no practice?' just crashed at the final arena in holy city of aratrum
Siege Pt 1 is going to eat you
I love turret totally yay
i have the turrets sectioned skipped
its kind of cheating but meh
they don't really add anything substantial to the game
seige part 2 worst part is uhh the last arena bc it requires a more tactical approach
DOOM Fans when they can't just dash into an arena shoot everything and win (they have to think):
(No offense meant)
so true
I do not understand the hate for em, they last like no time and it's fun to shred down enemies
what is the last arena anyways
They're just kinda useless. It feels like TDA either doesn't or didn't efel like it had enough with just the base gameplay
one thing abt dark ages early levels and the levels before cosmic realm is adopting a mentality to kill fodder first bc their way more threatening here than meets the eye
me when 2016 actually requires me to avoid getting hit instead of being able to facetank everything like in eternal
you cannot face tank everything in Eternal on nightmare what
I mean theirs more levels and most are longer then Eternal levels so it def had more
Yall complain about TDA turret and dragon and atlan stuff but Quake 4 has a section where you roll around in a giant hamster wheel
i did like
four levels in an hour
it sucked there too
both suck
i haven't played quake 4
I'm obviously exaggerating lol
but when you've got all your equipment rolling in eternal you have like 10x more survivability than you do in 2016
killing fodder before heavies or super heavies makes arenas way easier in the early to mid game
What's game speed?
100%
i wasn't going for 100% each level but I wasn't ignoring secrets, I was secret hunting
Honestly I liked the absurdity of it especially considering the game has a dissection cutscene like two levels later
this is true but honestly the paper mache-ness of the Slayer in 2016 UN sucks and isn't fun
true
although I had dragons and turrets turned off so that saved some time
Takes me like 15-25 mins for Khalim
30-45 for Hebeth
5-7 mins for barrier Core
30-1 hour for Sentinel Barracks
150 speed is such ass man 🥀
the levels are larger but honestly you can get through them quickeri n eternal
I just go along for the ride and have fun, all sections are great
I'm glad i reached the point in skill where I can comfortably play at max speed outside of the occasional parry glitch
don't u play on that speed
no lol
TDA levels might be bigger laid out but Eternal has more smaller-arenas that all have combat
what speed do you play on?
I play anywhere from 100 to 120
the mech sections in that game suck dick, makes TDA's mech combat look like Eternal's main combat loop
Anyways dragon sections, the mech sections, and the turret sections are all honestly a little weird. You can die but the risk of death feels really gone (ignoring the mech levels). I legitimately never felt like I was going to die in the Serrat sections and I don't think I ever had, even on max damage, smallest frame to dodge. I think i've only died once on the turret sections too
other than the few levels I tried 150 on in my second playthrough and hated it
True, Dark Ages is more of a battlefield
mech peaks at the old one fight
what speed do u play on btw
rn it's 120
-# I don't have any issues with vehicle sections in both Q4 and TDA
usually it's 100
but I do like 120 a bit more, even though it's kinda pushing the envelope for me
I think the Mech sections are probably the worst though. Theres only three-four enemies iirc, your health-on-kill is now suddenly gone so every hit you take is permanent until you take down pretty tanky enemies
And dodging is also pretty wonky, I should've gotten hit a lot more times then i was
Serrat just takes you from point A to point B with nothing really threatening you. The turret sections are just an activebore
nahh dude the dragon's worse, it's such missed potential. At least the Mech's a somewhat fun spectacle and the Turret sections are short, literally nothing happens in the dragon sections
I'd honestly rather be bored than upset at something
the only problem about the dragon sections for me was not knowing where to go
once that was figured out they were decently fun
and the mech sections even on 300% damage never felt like I wasn't able to heal through some damage
i just wish we got to use it for actual sky battles and like it's main attack was actual firebreath instead of a minigun like what??
I just think their cool lil gimmicks that split up gameplay, although they have flaws, they are still decently fun
i wish we got dogfights with the dragon, since we clearly chase dogfight style but don't evade dogfight style attacks from other ships
same, wish Final Battle was two levels, one for the mech and one for Asscrack
kind of how the Dark Lord boss is its own level
EXACTLY, then it would've had maybe some actual impact when he died
idk
have the first level be with the mech, the old one destroys it so Serrat comes in clutch and has an actually good section, then Ahzrak ices them her immediately instead of after the second or third cutscene
well if they wanted 3 phases it works to use serrat dying as the motivation for the slayer for the 3rd phase
would feel weird if he sees serrat die and he still struggles for 3 whole phases to kill asscrack
Serious Sam 4’s vehicle sections are an example of absolute dogshit
tbf Ahzrak is enhanced
Ahzrak killing Serrat before the fight starts wouldn't change anything
the ssg is the best gun ive ever used in a video game dare i say
on par with the roundabout from cuphead
i mean it changes the narrative. slayer is struggling vs asscrack and then serrat dies and he gets motivated by rage and kills him
I thought we would have gotten a Maledict boss fight using Serrat when the reveal trailer first dropped
its a much more compelling narrative than serrat dying first and then he struggles through 3 phases. it just wouldnt really make sense
Slayer doesn't get stronger by rage, thats hugos fanfic
He'd probably get more into it though
i mean he legit got stabbed, is down and out, sees serrat die, it focuses in on his face seething with rage, and then he owns asscrack
Nobody said he gets stronger, Gemini said motivated by rage which is absolutely what happens
i like how at one point after playing enough Doom you start craving the optional/secret encounters more just for the love of the combat and not even the secrets. This happened both with TDA and Eternal to me. Initially I only did what was necessary to get secrets but now I go out of my way to handicap myself AND kill as much as possible. It's as if you gain the Slayers lust for demon blood
i played foresaken plains, looking for as much demons to kill in the extra encounters and the ruby rewards were more like "oh i forgot doing these optional fights gives rewards and it's not just mindless killing"
IKR
yeah i got for 100% every run anyway, but i know theres certain encounters i could skip to do it faster if i wanted but im just like nah i want to kill all this shit anyway
Bro's immersion is on another level
weasel-in-the-chicken-coop mindset
the late stage Doom experience is having Doomguys bloodlust with no interest for the rewards that come with it
terminal doomlust
so true
since you mentioned this I might as well say that outside the slower projectiles, with the color change of parry-able projectiles to purple my immersion in tda is way solider than it was in Eternal
the story structure and level objective structure helps
TDA just improved pretty much everything imo
Post-game content (atm) and subtitles are the only downgrades
while i prefer Eternal, TDA is close
favourite games are like
- Doom Eternal
- Doom: The Dark Ages
- Team Fortress 2
- Black Mesa
- Mario Odyssey
i am just so obsessed with tda man
every time i finish a run i just want to start a new one and improve on the last one
This list lacks some Wolfenstein TNO
TNO over TNC?
Yes.
Apart from the lack of stealth…why?
I've replayed it more than 3 times thus far
Fair I was gonna say we should move there too
4 or 5 I can't remember
Both are #1 for me
yeah I find them really close
im prolly on run 40 or something now 💀
prolly more tbh
god bless
admittedly i replay the late game levels ALOT
since the Slayer power is basically the same fundamentally for the last 4 levels
dawg
I'm scared to ask how many hours you have
I've got maybe 8 runs under my belt (not counting my UN fails) and I have 171 hours
oh im counting the UN/pandemonium fails in there too
Help, the game crashes on loading with an Intel Core i7 3770 and RTX 3060 TI.
literally a black background and a crash
I started a mission i never done,
One challenge was done, and all the gold and some ressources were already at 1/1..
How is this possible ? A bug ?
I swear its the first time ever i start this mission
Secret also 5/5 ..
somebody know how to play on GTX?
u dont
Same here
if it's 16 series i think it can be bypassed cuz they still have the hardware or something
probably the cpu is js way too old
yes, requies some tinkering tho in game
anything older and yea not possible i fear
remember something similar happening on an ltt video
man spire is a hard level
even though my arsenal is mostly filled with max upgraded stuff im always at low health in the arenas
and now i died due to that bs spike ground stomp from the cyberdemon
oh my god this one arena with the cyberdemon and imp stalkers has killed me twice in a row wtf is wrong with it
the one with the cyberdemon next to the sentinel shrine and the two nightmare imps next to it?
im going back to eternal for now, with unremarkable consistency spire has been the level i truly start suffering in and then it goes away once i enter cosmic realm
that one
spire is full of arenas that piss me off
okay so all I had to do was charge at the arena as soon as possible and i cleared it in like 15 seconds fuck off
last no death spire attempt, if I die in this one im quitting TDA for the day
have we gotten anything on the DLC
oh my god i got super far, got through many of the encounters id consider the hardest and and died to bullet hell nonsense spam
im switching back to eternal until I get tired of that and then ill come back to this
spire legitimately might be one of my new least liked levels bc i dont know what they did here to make the level so consistently annoying in comparison to the stages that come after and before
Just released a new update for the Dark Ages mod loader. It adds support for creating sound / music mods.
For example: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wNvuHtVH8ko
Oh, Vega says I'm posting links too fast :< guess I'll have to wait before I can post the download
runeswap and melee swap sound cool and all, but other than a minor convenience, is there any real utility in it? like is there any reason to sacrifice any of your buttons to do a rune swap/melee swap?,
you don't need to sacrifice a button, just put it on a function key like your equipment in 2016
but yeah it's convenience
i play on ps5
how many buttons do you have on controller?
as long as you have 2 extra ones you shouldn't have to give any up
I don't have any extra buttons remaining, i'll have to give up something less used like switching to bfg. my other buttons are all mapped
Hey guys, if you haven’t seen, I’ve just released a new music video for my remix of Blood Spill from TDA. It was edited by Kruge, who has been making killer DOOM videos for years now. Check it out if you like https://youtu.be/Vr50nzrzNQY?si=bGSILl2yuTcxIXhN

excellent remix with an awesome music video, very well done guys!
Let me explain. There are these instructions called avx2. Many people hate them. People mostly either emulate them or create a patch. My CPU doesn't have these instructions. This game is the only one that doesn't have a patch for this instruction.
For example, developers can implement a patch that will allow the game to run without these supposed tools.
Basically, people who understand mods created patches for such games.
fantastic work ethan
made even better because of @subtle heart 's awesome editing
0/10, too much PEAK for my ears to handle
Yes, I'll send the Google Doc when I get back home
hi dose anyone know how to play dtda without raytracing and on a igpu
you can't
like 30fps bare minimum
steam deck has RT 🥀
shhhh

Release TDA
Say DLC will come out same year
Doesn't come out due to complications
"Yeah so instead of just delaying it and releasing what we had in mind, its pretty much going to be a sequel sized DLC"
Common Hugo W
I love ID Software
so excited for it
Release TDA
This was already a W enough to last them the rest of the decade
Phenomenal game, best one so far, massive improvement over Eternal imo
That is heavily debatable, but it definitely was a step more in the direction I prefer
Eternal is all about speed speed speed, optimization and skill
TDA goes back to true to form DOOM
well he did say in his opinion
Not talking about purely the gameplay but yeah I do also prefer how TDA plays
The story is also a huge step foward
Really takes what we only read in codexs to the big screen
I am super excited to how they bridge the original games to TDA if they do
Because all we know is he wandered hell for so long he found himself in a portal that ended up on Argent D Nur
They found him, threw him into the Pit and he proved himself to become a Knight Sentiel
And thats pretty much all we got.
Doth thou disagree?
Yeah i dunno man like.. okay. the game's story isn't bad, it's just not really anything special either. Like i just don't really feel like it lived up to the legends were we told about in 2016 and Eternal. The Sentinels are pretty useless and don't even kill any demons on screen, a lot of levels are filler (especially in the Cosmic Realm), the cutscenes, while pretty, are mostly just exposition dumps and "aura farming" moments, with rare substance here and there. Plus things like Serrat's death had little impact on me because the Slayer and him only had like 3 scenes together, along with some of the side characters just being sorta.. there
Plus the codex entries are just kinda dry compared to 2016 and Eternal. It's still not bad, just passable
Thats actually fair criticism
You weren't overzealous or douchey about it so thats 100% respectable
But at the same time, I say with what is to come next it may make the original content better in a way?
Or rather, make more of an oomf
Gameplay wise though, absolutely peak
every cutscene in any DOOM game is exposition dump and aura farming
thats the whole point of them
Unfortunately
I thought TDA told an actual story though instead of Eternal where the story was merely an excuse for the Slayer to go to these diverse and wacky environments
all i want/need is aura farming
And TDA built the Slayer out as a character while I feel like Eternal actively made him a worse character
He actually said that?
they actually never said the dlc was going to release in 2025
even from the beginning they were saying 2026
me when i lie
They can have both. Like the scene where the Kreed is being manipulated by Azhrak, or the scene where Thira and Novik briefly discuss the ethics of the Slayer's imprisonment. That's the kinda stuff I wanted more of and they're clearly capable of doing but they just.. don't
i thought that was the point tho. dark ages was so story heavy which i thought was a bit far for doom. what appeals most abt doom is thr demon slaying not the story which is why most of eternals story is behind the scenes
a lot of dark ages story was not needed
like adding shock to a doom game like serrats death or doom guys death thing wasnt needed
You can tune out a good story if you just want to play, you can't tune out a bad story if you want a good story...
The ending of DOOM 1 was purely for shock value and became one of the most famous events in the story
it was an ending tho
What does that change
i really thought doom guys death in dark ages was silly
it felt like a repeat of wolfenstien
Character dying and coming back is not something Wolfenstein invented 😭
If anything, this is sourced from the first DOOM
no but it was silly in wolfenstien so why did they do it again
its so cutscene heavy
I don't think so. I think both equally attributed to his character. Eternal simply built off of what 2016 established with his rebellious and rowdy "no bullshit" personality, plus things like his room in the fortress further humanizing him. The photo of his family on the floor is grrat environmental storytelling. TDA had him struggle a bit more and gave him a bigger variety of facial expressions which was also nice
Like I said, if you just want to play you can tune out the story. The cutscenes are skippable
you can make him struggle in tda but the story was messy. in 2016 and eternal a todler could tell you what ur doing and thats what i liked. its just straight forward whereas in tda its so dragged on
Yeah Eternal built off 2016's anarchistic personality but the thing is, they also tried to make him the original Doomguy in this game, and instead of mending the story to make that more believable they just... didn't, I'm meant to believe this guy that hops into guns to shoot himself across the atmosphere is the same one that had PTSD in DOOM 64
plus the last lvl of tda was annoying
You have the right to hold any opinion but I disagree so so hard lol
Reckoning is cinema
its the first doom game with a last level where it still has puzzles and shit blocking ur way you have to get around
Depth is bad?
every last level before was just a run up to the boss and only demon slaying
A story being able to be explained by a toddler is not the good thing you say it is
its good for doom
who tf plays doom for the story?
I don't think it was that unbelievable I mean a LOT of time has past since 64 and Eternal. In fact TDA was the oppurtunity to show us how he went from Doomguy to the Slayer and they wasted it
Wanting a deep story does not mean it's all you care about brochacho
what?
I don't think it's a bad thing that it is, but not a lot actually happens in the story despite how long it is
Your counterargument to TDA having a deep story is "nobody plays doom for the story"
it wasnt needed
...okay? That's true but that implies if you have a deep story you can't have ANYTHING else be good
But it's welcome
not really
If you don't like it then that's fine but holding the fact the game had a deep story to its throat is a bit silly
That's preference my dude. I don't think DOOM is better or worse without or without a story. It's just about if it's actually good or not
there are some levels in doom tda where i genuinally couldnt tell you whats going on
I've never really had that issue with any of these games
yeah
Yeah he spent years, decades, maybe even centuries in a place infested with the things that traumatised him. That made it less believable for me if anything
except tda
thats on u tbh
Yea so TDA would've been the chance to see him overcome that trauma and become the Slayer. But like I said it didn't, instead focusing on Hearts of Argents and Cosmics Realms and Old Ones the list goes on
I agree that this was a good chance to do that
ruining the flow
But this is an issue that Eternal introduced, that's an issue with Eternal
lol
it literally is
In your opinion
there isnt a single main thing wrong with it.
TDA shows him caring for the lives of his comrades while Eternal has basically nothing along those lines
As much as Doom is not regarded for its story, people were still invested in the characters and lore introduced after 2016. Doom never had a large lore and story until 2016 was made. They could choose not to address it but making a game leaning into a story isn’t a surprise. It’s one of the ways the world they created can be addressed
whereas dark ages has flaws
In your opinion 🥀
"eternal is flawless"
This screams bias
go on whats wrong with it in ur opinion?
Again i don't really see it that eay because again, SOOO much time passed between then and now, you can infer that he got over it at some point. Should it have been shown at some point? Probably, yes. Would it have made sense to be shown in Eternal? Probably not imo
You said it yourself earlier, the story can be recited by a toddler, it's awfully plain. The visuals are a downgrade from 2016, the atmosphere is gone
That's... a good point actually, at the end
gritty atmosphere wouldnt work in a game with such fast combat. also that first point would be slandering the classic dooms too. their story was so simple
This was needed in Eternal more I agree, but I think by that point in time he's so hellbent on his mission there's not reallt any time for dilly dallying
They're from 1993 bro
I do not hold the 30+ year old games to 2020 standards lmao
thats what its trying to recreate. its called a reboot for a reason
For me, the pacing of the campaign, the gritty gnarly atmosphere 2016 had was gone, the ost is subjective but I preferred the direction 2016 had for it than the one we have for Eternal, Horde Mode is not a traditional horde mode, final boss is a sponge bullet, Samuel Hayden’s character was downgraded
Also I didn't say gritty atmosphere I said that there is basically zero atmosphere, the only levels with it are Urdak and Final Sin
So if it recreated the super pixelated graphics and MIDI music of that era you'd be praising it because it's a reboot?
2016 and eternal are like an apple and an orange but both are really good
i never once said 2016 was bad
Hmmmmmm dont agree with that at all lmao. It's not really as moody in atmosphere as 2016, but to say Eternal has no atmosphere isn't exactly true imo
The atmosphere is on the level of late 90s expansion packs lmao
they intergrated a lot of classic dooms tracks into the new tracks (something tda didnt do) and why tf would they keep the graphics the same thats such a stupid point.
keep pixalated graphics why tf would they do that
its 30 years
do you genuinally think tda is better than eternal?
Yes
Because vibes!!
It’s apples and oranges but TDA is not a downgrade compared to the other two
It's a sidestep
You said earlier that it's GOOD that Eternal had ass story because the originals did too, and it's part of the reboots. So by your logic, keeping the same level of quality as the old ones is good, so that means pixelated graphics would be based because it's a reboot
the skill ceiling is lower in tda aswell
hence why masterlvls might not be as common
I am quite literally using the logic you yourself used earlier and you're calling it stupid
story =! graphics
they couldve added a detailed story in the classic ones
they just didnt
Why can't they improve story but can graphics
No actually good story was not widely seen in games at the time
Excuse plots were the only plots
plots dont matter if the whole game is purely abt demon slaying
out of everyone ik irl that has played them they barely talk abt the story when praising it
You enjoyed TDA's gameplay right?
so why add a story later on?
yeah? tda is still an 8/10 for me
i never said it was bad
Then why are you acting like incorporating a deep story sacrifices the gameplay
also
This is like saying a Godzilla movie shouldn't have human characters because people want to see the monsters. How bout you just make both sides equally good?
if they did lean into the story so much
they didnt even get anywhere
they didnt cover much of what people wanted to see
i hope they do ts in the dlc
Because it was an opportunity to give an insight to the lore they made since 2016. They didn’t have to but it’s a choice that’s not made out of nowhere because 2016 was where they added the lore.
again
Adding story is EVIL (all cutscenes are skippable)
no one who plays ts casually cares abt the story
yes we do
(Its even technically expanding on 3's plot cuz of the whole Martians going to war with Hell thing)
Like I genuinely have no idea what you're complaining about, that they made the story not basic? 😭
bold assumption man
most people arnt like " i cant wait to see the story in tda"
out of everyone i have talked to abt this game
bruh
I was
#the-dark-ages message
You ignored this and then proceed to do what I called out in this message again
they care more abt the combat
That's like the main reason i played it
A lot actually do surprisingly. Doom is mainly gameplay but people are still interested in the story. Lore videos have high views on YouTube
Your argument about a more in-depth story being bad is that people played the game for the gameplay and didn't care about the story
So that means the story didn't intrude, right? If nobody talked about it?
you mention bias earlier. this whole server is biased in favour of the story cuz ur literally in a doom discord talking to me abt doom rn.
ofc u care abt the story
u dont play it as casually as most people
i have 3 people ranting to me at once
how tf do i respond to everything
The chat went to a standstill when I sent that message
But if DOOM fans play the games just for the gameplay, and we are DOOM fans, shouldn't that make us your target demographic?
ofc people in this server are going to favour story
How is it biased when the numbers show that people, even outside this server, want to know about the lore?
i have seen you on here for atleast a year
u do not play ts casually
you are mostly a minority
I never claimed to
can you please fuck off am not even talking to you
So you want DOOM games to appeal to non-fans more than fans???
Genuinely what point are you trying to make here
am tryna debate with this guy and ur in my ear like a fly parroting what he says
it should favour what makes doom doom. combat
and it should lean more into that than story
The game is an 8/10 in your opinion despite you disliking the story
It, quite literally, leaned into the combat
you can skip the cutscenes man like i dont know what else to tell you? like isn't that what you did?
again what u said the story dosnt matter as much all i said was it was too intergrated. i was talking to u alone now 2 other randoms are parroting you
We make different points, we're just on the same side
last time i skipped a cutscene in tda i went from some green lake touching some orb to a fucking stomach.
You went from gameplay to gameplay, and you like gameplay, why aren't you happy
i'm not in full agreement with everything he says thank you very much lol. I also like Eternal more than TDA
cuz i like the story. i just dont like how its so intergratrd. i read the lore and shit and i care. but on my first playthrough even after reading hours of doom lore prior i had 0 clue what i was doing
whereas when i first played 2016 it was like "blow up tower" "stop meltdown" "blow up vega"
or eternal "stop nest from consuming earth" "kill priest" "kill big goat monster"
then i play tda and am in some fucking abyss with pirate ships floating everywhere
with 0 explanation
I play Eternal and I'm suddenly in this blue world surrounded by floating islands
okay wait I actually agree with u, just realized lol
if ur quoting tag2 then yeah that wasnt perfect
TAG 2 blew the story even harder than the rest lol
i didnt like tag2 story
i did ;-;
But I'm confused now, your initial point was that they focused too much on the story, now you're saying they didn't make the story clear enough
I mean it was
well no it's more like Doomguy and the Dark Lord just look similar
it should been some massive mfing demon who had a fight lasting a whole level
not an enhanced maruader
I can't even remember what the fight was originally like, I modded it to hell and back to make it actually good lol
Most underwhelming final boss fight since RtCW
or the Seraphim
seraphim wasnt bad
Idk if I'd call him a final boss
it was just so fucking stressful
Like yeah he's the final boss of TAG 1, but like, that's part one of a two-part DLC, I think they're meant to be treated as one product and Davoth is the final boss of that
Anyway if we wanna continue talking about Eternal I'm happy to go to #doom-eternal or #general with you guys
I just want to clear this up @south pilot, what's your point, if you had to rephrase it the best way you could?
Is it that they made the story too confusing or that they just put too much focus on it?
the story was leaned in so hard. yet i still dont understand half the shit. i just felt like doom guys death and shit wasnt needed
confusing
serrats death wasnt needed
he couldve come back for dlcs
or something
Doomguy's death yeah I guess, I can see how that can be off-putting because it made the lore around Hell a bit confusing, but Serrat's death? How come?
I think DOOM's storytelling style should take more inspiration from Half-Life than like.. Resident Evil (which is what it kinda feels like with TDA)
he died too early
we couldve seen ts in later dlcs
and with not enough buildup of their relationship
That's fair
Honestly now that you made your points more clear (which is a bit ironic) I understand your point of view
like they should've given us the ability to like pet him or smth whilst he's on the ground or smth, anything
At first it just seemed like you were arguing that it's a bad thing it tried to have a good story
if you want to learn the story, you should read the codex entries cause thats a major portion of learning the story in any of the doom games across the board.
if you watch the cutscenes in full, and read the codex enteries, the story is explained in depth pretty well i'd personally say.
I know most people don't care at all about this, but I want to start a petition to change the name of Dark Ages' platinum trophy from "Trophy Master" to "In The Dark". I just find it so disappointing how generic that name is, when most other Doom games have actually really cool names for their plats, and I think this Doom II reference is a very good choice, but I'm also looking for other people's suggestions
more than the name, I just want some more eclectic achievements instead of the really standard stuff
Bring back difficulty achievements
I love beating a game on the hardest difficulty and getting rewarded for it
Hardly any incentive to do it otherwise
I dunno, Ultranightmare is really punishing, it'd be the Unity ports Nightmare trophies all over again for most people
Well yeah don't do achievements for UN imo
well by eclectic I mean varied and possibly goofy, not necessarily UN achievements
But like, NM, that's doable, it'd spice it up
Oh, okay, fair enough. What do you have in mind?
I'd propose something along the lines of "get 10 succesful parries in a row"
Also fair enough
maybe killing an agaddon using only the gauntlets or something
completing every optional gore nest
kill the old one without taking any damage
use the bfc to kill only a single enemy
perform a shield saw execution on every common enemy type
clear the campaign with sliders higher than default nightmare
kill x number of enemies with a single dreadmace swing, etc
I vibe with most of them, honestly. The sliders one is the only proposal that I'm not too keen on since I don't want to play the game on 2x speed, since I'll either die instantly or throw up
well "higher than nightmare" could be anything
increase the projectile speed, damage to slayer, lower the damage to enemies, increase the game speed to 110, etc
That reminds me of an achievement from Shovel Knight Pocket Dungeon where you have to beat the final boss with the chaos bar that fills up with every hat you wear, which are gameplay modifiers, completely full. So, everything is extremely nonsensical, but you get to pick your poison. Not a bad idea if it's implemented this way
Sonic 4 e1 has an achievement for beating the final boss damageless and this would be kinda cool for Ahzrak if you could fast travel to him
You could just reload the checkpoint right?
Maybe but you'd need to go through the whole ass level just to reach him
Still better than having to do that every time you mess up
I hope they have creative secrets in the DLC like the cosmic levels where they had you running in circles or turning the room upside down
Or that other one where a pathway magically appears out of nowhere
Or just straight up non-euclidean geometry that isn't aprat of secrets
Now thinking about it, I wish they did include that stuff outside of secrets…
Most we had was swimming
the cosmic realm secrets and puzzles were absolutely peak
They outdid themselves to make the Cosmic Realm so different to the other realms. Yeah it’s supposed to, but id did really well
What creeped me out was those long legged jelly fish looking things at the distance, I understood what they meant by incomprehensible beings
Where doom
the cosmic realm is by far my favorite part of TDA
I quite like harbor of souls + resurrection
amazing music + beautiful visuals + banger fights
harbor of souls, resurrection and reckoning are the peak of the game foe me
like even og doom games had some kind of lore and story
dude i fucking hate spire
its like a random diffuclty spike of a 100 and then it goes back to normal
"Punish the guilty" is the rawest mission objective I've ever seen
TDA is just so fucking metal
i legitimately dont understand, its probably due to this consistent amount of enemy spam
idk this level just makes me mad, just when I think I got it figured out I die yet again to spam
Eternal in its best arenas had the common courtesy to not let every single demon fire at you at once, not only bc it was impossible due to the walls separating you and the demons but bc they just didnt attack all at once, most of the times TDA succeds at not giving you every single enemy projectile all at once bc obstacles block enemy projectiles, but for some reason in spire theres 5 quintillion enemies and little cover in all these arenas so if you miss one parry or do one wrong move you get bullet-helled to death cause for some reason no enemy just stays back and doesnt fire like other levels? Whats wrong with this stage?
idk, I never found spire particularly hard
sorry
I had a much greater amount of trouble in something like sentinel command station or belly of the beast in my UN runs
the only difficult part about spire for me is the fact that it's easy to lose focus because it's very drawn out
although the revenant leader fight with the komodo can be a little spicy
the komodo/BK near the sigil is annoying af
omg the fight with the leader cyberdemon can go fuck off
i killed it yeah but every single time its a chore, much like most arenas in this level, always barely making it with low health and having to take cover every five seconds
this one too
the main reason why i wont ever put TDA over Eternal is this fundamental contradiction in what im supposed to do that comes when doing these arenas due to the exsistence of non parryable projectiles, yes I could go for the cyberdemon and start parrying but then the whiplash will start throwing those unbereable non parryable long range projectiles, if I go for the whiplash first ill be busy dealing with the Cyberdemons non parryables and spike ground attack, so what ends up happening is this akward back and fourth thats not fun at all while my shield keeps breaking and i have to continually go for cover, yes i survived but that wasnt fun at all
normally this isnt an issue due to the size of arenas spacing enemies out, but when you put these two together it becomes very unfun
same happens for that Komodo and battle knight arena, it would be PERFECTLY fine if the komodo couldnt shoot those stupid non parryable fireballs
same happens for the cacodemon too, if it only went for the parryables it would be a fine enemy, but no
im not saying all enemy fire should be parryable, im saying that much of this games design is kind of bs in many arenas and enemy setups
Eternals movment allowed me to swim around the bs basically, which is why i forgive more bullshit there, but here all I can do is either hide/have my shield constantly broken or pray the enemies im not fighting dont start shitting out non parry-able projectiles
idk, I just have to remember that dodging projectiles is still very much a thing in this game
like yeah, I think the tracking on some enemies' projectiles is a bit excessive but you can still dodge almost all projectiles, especially on default projectile speed
obviously hitscan does circumvent that, but only 3 enemies in the game have hitscan, and those enemies are dealt with a certain way
and i died to the revenant leader and komodo arena
and while there are situations I can get myself into where my shield's broken in a sea of enemies and I'm a sitting duck (with the exception being a select few occurrences that I can count on one hand) this is almost always my fault
much like eternal, where you can just get hitstunned to death and it feels like shit, but it was at least indirectly my fault
dodging at the speed the Slayer moves right and left is really, really rough
are you on default projectile speed?
so maxed out projectile speed
if the solution is to not play like this im all ears
bc while i like challenge, that doesnt mean i like bullshit
well unfortunately max projectile speed is inherently bullshit, sorry
there's no getting around that
at that slider, the projectile speed is literally doubled relative to normal
no no ill forgive the game that bc its an optional setting
like, it isnt forced upon me in any intended difficulty
like the game isnt designed around that basically, so I wont mind turning it off
if im playing at 150% should I just have slowest projectile speed and call it a day? I dont mind suggestions I just want to have fun in the end of the day
personally I think the second highest projectile speed slider is the bleeding edge of what can be considered fair
because that's 150% projectile speed
and even then, you can still get outrun by rev skulls and certain other things
I just use my mod to get 125% projectile speed (the sweet spot of difficulty imo) and crank the damage up to 300
they did a poor job with the projectile slider I think
which projectiles don't get affected by projectile speed change
I think virtually all of them do
I'm not sure which ones aren't though
but empirically speaking I can't point to a single one that isn't noticeably affected
I think even stuff like acolytes' purple rain is affected, which makes the tell almost impossible to react to
I'll try playing with minimal projectile speed, and if i still find things unfun I'll lower the speed to 140%
oh wtf you've been playing with maxed projectile speed this whole time?
no wonder you think parries are impossible to time lmao
lmao
the komodos fireballs are so much more digestible
yeah my b
maybe the sliders could have like ''umm this level of sliders might result in an unbalanced experience'' warning, just generated by the players
probably not, just a lil indicator that no, streching the game this way makes it play not as intended
Isn't that kind of obvious
no unfortunately
