i just bought the game and it isn't even scratching 60fps with an rx6750xt and ryzen 5700x does anyone have a similar issue

Dark Ages is a very very casual game compared to eternal, this represents a bad step for people that enjoyed the high skill ceiling and expresivity of eternal. Ultrakill carried the torch well while doing something super different.

the weapon upgrades are definitely unbalanced towards the end, enemies need a buff for sure
i thought chapter 22 was actually ok. it did kind of feel like you were against actual medieval formations of armies
the cooked rocket launcher upgrade is absolutely busted. when i learned how to use it properly i completely dropped the grenade launcher
like playing warhammer 1 vs a whole army. they should lean more into the whole army formation arena thing instead of just random enemy placements. stuff like phalanx, melee lines int he front, siege weapons etc..

I mainly use SSG for close range, impaler for mid/long, sub rocket launcher for situational healing/cooked rockets, and chainshot for long range breaking armor. Never had any reason to use the skullcrushers or plasmas

Cycler in the dread knight hallway is amazingly satisfying, definitely try that if you haven't yet
i lowkey don’t mind the slower swap speed in TDA because whereas Eternal’s weapon switching was very reactive, TDA’s is more proactive so you kinda want to have an idea of which weapon you’re gonna be using as you enter a fight
but if it’s this slow they should let you block and parry during the swap

never touched it until TAG made me always use it for the sprits, slowly learned how to weave it into combos and it helped me beat UN on eternal

Yeah, the weapon wheel on console isn’t as good as it was on eternal and it makes quick flipping to different guns a pain. It was really easy to tell on eternal but it is less responsive/tactile in TDA

worst part is if you happen to run out of ammo and forced to swap while multiple enemies are dogpiling you I swear no ammo swap takes so much longer too

I'd give DOOM 2016 a 6/10. DOOM Eternal a 5/10, and Dark Ages a 9-9.5/10

I like how 2016's early maps did exploration.
But Dark Ages does exploration and secret hunting so much better than even 2016's Foundry, while having much better combat
The only department 2016 has that can stand up to TDA and Eternal is the sci-fi environments which are I guess closer to what we know about Doom, and even then TDA's atmosphere is superior. Everything else is better by major leagues in both sequels.
The gunplay especially has aged so badly in 2016. The weapons are really lacking in impact and most of them are flatout bad without the one mod that makes them OP.

I think one of my favorite aspects of Dark Ages is the fact that almost every gun is OP when fully upgraded. Like I can do an entire playthrough with just the Combat Shotgun with the incendiary upgrade and the armor drops

Also Dark Ages has the best Classic DOOM elements. Even more so than 2016's Foundry and Argent Facility.
Dark Ages is actually the closest to feeling like classic Doom in the sense that instead of you existing in the world and the demons come to kill you, the demons exist in the world and you come to kill them
The way melees, shields, shield runes, canceling shield tosses and catches into melees into parries into guns, combining them into shield runes and what not is so damn cool.
That just merely quick swap spam with a mediocre melee system is kinda boring to me at this point.

.... and the levels feel ludicrously long for just being super linear combat arenas with mid exploration all day.
Eternal's maps don't feel explorative or varied enough to justify how long and drawnout they are.
While Dark Ages has longer missions. They feel more justified due to the high level of exploration, secrets, and hidden alt pathways. The level design feels a lot more varied and classic DOOM-like

The shear utility it has makes it easily the best tool in your arsenal. From blocking projectiles, the absolutely ADDICTING parrying, wiping out shield guys for armor, stun locking heavier demons to wail on them, it's just....so damn cool

i think the parry window is too big on default def. the speed is okay. it matches the speed of the projectiles in doom 1 and 2, which is what they were going for.

Absolutely. There's a lot less stuff to worry about all at once. Generally more simple to get the hang of while still leaving enough room for the hardcore players to find insane tech. They even went as far as to indicate when a demon is faltered with that yellow circle

Overall, This game is much worse. No dash. The hounds have melee almost akin to ranged attacks. when you thihk you can easily dodge them. it literally one hits kils you. Doom eternal was much better. even with claustrophobic fights. I Get you have a shield now. but meh its not bad but for me it is def down a notch

Instead of dashing around, using flame belch, and quick swapping between the ssg and ballista you're shield bashing around, tossing your shield at superheated shield guys, and going back and forth between guns and melee
then you miss the exection window. and their range fks you up 😄
I think the only one I can't really go back to at this point is 2016. As much as I really like the art direction and environment design in that game, it's A) nothing that can't be reproduced, and B) kinda nil compared to how unbalanced and unsatisfying the gunplay is.
the shield bash IS your dash. also in this game you actually have to weave and legit dodge projectiles instead of simply pressing the dash button
the shield bash is an execution btw, you dont have to melee them
You can solve the balance problem by choosing to not use the SSG
And stick with the shotgun that has the effective range of a blunderbuss and a plasma rifle that feels like crap?

Regular rocket launcher shots are also still good till the end
Need to time it with shield/weapon stuns so you dont get hit, the combo into kick doesnt get canceled either if you stop punching as long as you dont miss a punch
It struggles to take out soldiers with splash damage. It's pitiful without RD mastery, because it doubles damage.
So you could double punch fodder then stun kick the big boys
to be fair melee was still a huge risk in eternal. certain enemies melee attacks can take 90% of your health in one swing if you get in close range without faltering them

Well I played it again not an hour ago and shit crashed, I know I'm right. Even unmastered sticky bomb will fail to kill surrounding targets. Explosives in 2016 are just really underpowered without the full upgrade tree which is a bit horseshit.

yup. i loved shooting a remote det rocket near the cyber mancubi and falter them to get in close range to blood punch them to break their armor, just to deliver an SSG blast to put them in a glory kill state
ist was just one strike and you regained health. yeah needed to be somewhat tactical with it but i never had any issueing much dying to it other then the odd time
The super shotgun is unbalanced in every doom game (even Eternal) and solves 90% of their encounters
One's more complex and intricate with a LOT of tech involved that makes it a blast to play in it's own right. The other is more simplified and streamlined but still fun

Yeah. it also burns your shotgun ammo very quick. the game balances that by making you use other weapons for weakpoint breaking and long range slaying.

Thing is some things are just unavoidable. When you are the one that needs to fire and disable enemy. In doom eternal you could atleast dash while firing to evade shots. you CANT use shield and fire at the same time. and end up taking dmg. im sorry it just sucks

Because you started talking about weapon balance, if I didn't address the mods specifically there'd be no point. The base weapons in Eternal are functionally superior to the ones in 2016 without mods, even the combat shotty has less spread.

I mean sure if you can, good. But sometimes they are placed at distances you cant easily reach like that. also you have an entire arsenal. you should be able to do it with any number of other guns safely.
tossing the shield and getting it back is gonna 100% falter the enemy while you can stay safe. i do it alot to pinkies and mancubi when there is alot of action

I agree to an extent, but specific stuff like dash not being there - just got to adapt to the new toolset. Shield charge+ strafe, close, parry etc. It's going to be so much more fun than constantly thinking "I wish I had x"

I mean that's why enemies lead their projectiles + you can speed them up yourself if you want. Having your basic fodder type projectiles curve toward you and block every shot if they're in front of everything else is unnecessary.

Again, it wouldn't be as annoying if they didn't block all attacks. But they do, on top of being homing, on top of being spammable, on top of being faster than anything else.

i like that fodder management is important but homing projectiles having ALL of those other properties means it's always better to just nuke everything than to rely on strafing (a bullet hell fundamental)
Perhaps more projectiles that were less BS would do it while maintaining pressure to move, look, as they need to err more on the side of bullethell otherwise it could potentially become a cover shooter where you have portable cover at all times. Perhaps that introduces its own problems, though, as it will shift the solution from requiring quick kills/movement to increasing evasion/parry workload. I'd like to see an option for this, though, so we can check it out for ourselves.
you can also shieldbash iframe through projectiles but that's a brute force solution and less fun than strafing things yourself
for posterity's sake: blocking isn't a "real" solution on nightmare, the shield will break in like 2 hits and you need that shit for parrying
Basically, I see the BS projectiles as increasing pressure to kill and move in a "targeted" way, and other projectiles as increasing pressure to solve problems with shield/evasion etc as well

But as it stands the one time they show up in a secret encounter that throws hundreds of them at you is virtually unplayable because of those projectiles.
That is "You will be hit" basically enforces that if you attempt to tank or camp, you get found out
This encounter could've been a blast but instead it plays so awkward because of the way they balanced these guys.
If nothing will get past your defence, it becomes a race to supreme defensive play

So few days ago we were wondering about doom tda goty. Just to see what the competitions was, I played expedition 33 and oh god if it sucked. What doom tda moves at 60 FPS it's not so smooth for expedition 33. Plus it's full of QTEs, it's basically QTE the game, with incredibly s

When I looked it up to see if it was my misunderstanding of the mechanics or it was like that, I found some comments on the tone of "you need to get gud" implying that pressing a button at the right time is peak gameplay. I'm completely at loss, what have been videogames become?

Honestly the more I think about it the less sense it makes for the lanky mullet imps to be in the game at all. They don't fit with the 'slow bullet hell' approach they're going for and they feel shoehorned in.

I don't think it's meant to be all that slow. They are actively making you play offensively with a number of the mooks
Of course with an RX580 or GTX 900 even without forced RT your card woulnd't run TDA super well.
It has to do with them offloading lighting and the brunt of graphics processing to the RT pipeline directly, and that coupled with the more simplistic enemy AI allows them to put more on screen because it's generally less taxing on the CPU.
