The expectation most people get from this is that Doomguy was born looking like Davoth did when he was born. That physically he has always had Davoth's looks.

TDA seems to be debunking this. Unless the in-game look is different, the Slayer's face in the art book outright has a different eye color entirely, and different facial structure in some areas.

Doomguy becomes someone different in becoming the Slayer. He's not really capable of forging genuine relationships or connecting with people anymore, not like he was before. Part of it is because of trauma and anger and shit, but based on the trailers, TDA asserts part of it is because of the Maykrs fucking with his head.

It's not like he's just inhuman now, but things are just different. If Doomguy had someone he loved, I don't think the Slayer would be able to connect with them the way he could before. That's part of what makes him kind of a tragic character.
