i think a big reason why doom eternal is so addictive in its combat is well is because of the "team fortress 2 effect" where every gun is essentially a single fire monster and it kinda gives you the feeling of "one shot huge damage" , kind of like a sniper headshot, and then cycling through your arsenal of single fire is SO satisfying in a combo. SSG + canon + rocket launcher + ballista + Plasma burst + ssg

it also eliminates any threat management by stunning everything close to you, which instead of promoting skill expression - like eternal's combat does - actively harms it.

the hammer overall will actively harm some of eternal's core pillars, and offers a universal solution instead of requiring knowledge over your entire toolkit and its application in tandem.

on top of this he presents a very 1 dimensional fight without much utility.
