Unless The Dark Ages retcons the timeframe or introduces new info I didn't expect, the Unholy Wars are implied to have lasted a pretty long time - likely at least a decade IMO. If Doom 1993 was a "battle," the invasion of Argent D'Nur was definitely a "war." And not a one-sided one either - the Sentinels put up a very good fight.

They would've probably lost for good if not for the Slayer but it's not for lack of trying. It's just, you know, when they can supply essentially infinite demons it's only a matter of time before you lose steam and are overwhelmed.
