i think DLCs will be bigger this time around
I think so to
Otherwise why mention the testamentsš
iirc they mentioned that we will witness those events in main campaign
No, what they said is the game will lead into the Testaments.
Imagine saying it'll lead to the testaments but neither the game nor dlc actually has the testaments in them
The Testaments begin with a brief mention of the original games, then mainly pick up with the Slayer after the fall of Argent D'Nur.
The game can't actually have the events of the Testaments in them, because the Testaments cover billions of years, all after Argent D'Nur fell.
That's weird tho, why mention it'll lead into the testaments and show the slayer jump on a titan in what looks like the titans realm
It has the same atmosphere and just has too many coincidences and implications
These are separate Titans.
Which are?
The Titan's Realm has the skeleton of the Great One. The Slayer fought this Titan very very long after Argent D'Nur fell.
Like that event explicitly happens long after he had even been on Argent D'Nur.
Still confusing, why mention the testaments in the first place
They could've just said that was after doom 64 but no it leads into the testaments which kind means nothing
They just want to hype it up. I have my reservations as to if it even will "lead into the Testaments" literally or if they just mean the Testaments are the next chronological canon thing to happen after this.
I mean they're hyping up The Dark Ages by mentioning the Testaments.
Yea, the hype has been around what's IN the testaments, I understand that they're not doing the whole tower dropping thing but if so, the marketing is very misleading
You have to understand, the timeframe here isn't conducive for a 12 hour long game. The Unholy Wars (Argent D'Nur vs Hell) were implied to last for years, and the Argenta Civil War (Sentinel loyalists VS insurrectionists) also likely lasted for a long time. This game seems to start off very early after Doomguy becomes the Slayer, so realistically they can't literally have the game lead into the Testaments without years-long timeskips in several places.
Or retconning the timeframe, which I don't want to assume.
Maybe. It can be. I wouldn't be surprised. If I were writing the prequel, I'd want the discovery of Nekravol (which leads into the civil war) to be the climax of the game. The Slayer kicks this villain's ass, everything's looking good for the Sentinels, but oh man we just found a stronghold built by Sentinel slaves and the Maykrs are in cahoots with Hell. Oh fuck -> cliffhanger ending.
Ima be honest, they shouldve never mentioned the testaments
If they did that, they could use the DLC to delve into the Argenta Civil War there. Bring back Marauders as alive enemies adapted to TDA's gameplay format, eventually end it off with the Betrayal and the Slayer stranded in Hell. This would effectively lead into the Testaments.
Well then that clears it up I guess
Or they'll do a timeskip, who knows
That makes more sense, however I don't like the fact that they mentioned it
Hey did the doomslayer fight the balgaar demon during the time frame of tda?
We don't know if he did fight the Baalgar or not before 2016, but if he did, then no. The Baalgar originally died during the Third Age of Hell. TDA happens during the First Age.
Sad noises
well i hope we fight baalgars as enemies, boss baalgar later
Sadly I don't think it's gonna happen
They better make some banger bosses if were skipping out on the balgaar
Or imma riot
Iām excited for this game
Same bro
No clue what the bosses are gonna be in this game, but Iām excited to see what id cooks up. Curious if weāll fight a Dreadnought as a boss with or without the Atlan.
The dreadnought is the one that invaded taras nabad right?
Well thereās multiple dreadnoughts, but yeah I think the specific one that attacks Taras Nabad would be a great opportunity as a Boss fight. Depends on if it aligns with the gameās story though.
I hope
I've been told that we most likely won't fight the champion titan
But I want to fight a titan as the slayer
Not just the atlan
Iām speculating that the armored Dreadnought we see in some of the gameās footage is the one that lays siege to Taras Nabad. Although Iāve also been told that could potentially clash with some lore in the timeline, so weāll see.
Agreed
Which makes me think if they'll have variations of titans when we're in the atlan
I wonder that too
I wouldn't want to fight the same basic models over and over again
I saw an armored one but there could be four legged titans
Not entirely sure if dreadnoughts and titans are one and the same, or separate entities. Iāve always interpreted Titans as stronger, more formidable dreadnoughts
Dunno though
Yeah thatās fair. I wouldnāt mind it too much personally. The destructible features look incredible.
Lol, right?
Yeah they looked like they melted when the chain gun hit them which is baffling
Sick af
Destructible demons was the best thing they added in eternal imo
So glad itās coming back
Based on the evidence we have, it seems likely that the Dreadnought is a specific Titan.
As in, the Icon of Sin, the Gargaska, the Supentor, the Leviathan, the Dreadnought.
That's new, who's the leviathan? I haven't heard of that one yet
One of the four Titans that ransacked Argent D'Nur after the Betrayal. Being the first four I mentioned in that message.
Huh, interesting
This is an interesting thing because of the Gargaska. The Gargaska is listed as a Titan in the First Age, but the Drumavi texts mention an alien warrior also called the Gargaska that was defeated by the Baalgar in combat when Hell was invading the place - and the Slayer isn't mentioned here so I'm inclined to believe this is after he was incapacitated.
oh that's not good
So... either Hell named this random warrior after a Titan of theirs, or they retroactively went back and named the Titan the Gargaska after said random warrior.
Ah I see, that clarifies things. Thanks
Where is this info from?
Interesting that Leviathan is a name from biblical texts. I wonder if they'll portray him as a sea serpent like they say he is, or if they'll do something special
Never heard of the garskaka
The Doom Eternal Lorebook, which was only available in the Collector's Edition of Doom Eternal. You can find scans and transcripts of it online.
Oh yeah he was a ruler of the first age right?
I see
Maybe a sky serpent and we fight him in the sky.....
Mainly the Lorebook provides info on:
- Hell's side of the Eternal invasion
- The invasion of the alien world Drumavi
- additional worldbuilding for the Aranea Imperatrix, the Nameless, and the Hell/Urdak pact
Yknow that's a lot to keep track of
Also. Serrat doesn't look like a wintherin, why do you think that is m0no?
It's interesting for me because now there's a whole other species of big lizard
Very cool. I keep forgetting Iām missing a chunk of the lore info by not reading/ owning that. Lot of interesting things mentioned. Hoping TDA follows up on a lot of it.
Yeah that's what I'm saying, it's a lot to keep track of and I hope they don't screw it up like they did with samur my g
The one thing that is telling me this is that she has eyes. Serrat has eyes.
Samur was planned in eternal, given the whole "welcome seraphim" thing in urdak
I mean his dialogue
He went from loving argent energy to calling it an unholy practice
Makes me wonder if samuel got possesed by samur instead of being one and the same
Ohh that might just be him gaining his memories back
I just hope they don't leave me with more questions
They really got to lock in this time
Yeah I agree. I really donāt like how TAG butchered his character. It felt like him being Samur was decided during the development of Eternal, and not actually planned. I donāt mind the concept, but his character is jarring when moving from 2016 to Eternal.
Yeah I'm personally hoping that tda justifies eternals story and makes it age better
The running theory w samur's memory, is - like vega - he only gained his memories as the slayer put him in the fortress, but unlike vega, he didn't say anything.
Tda can make characters like the khan makyer, samur, valen feel more impactful
The more maykr like he became the more he remembered basically
Yeah it's m0no's
Thatās a fair theory. Would support his character development more if so.
He kind of realised what he was, and I don't think the seraphs particularly like the whole hell deal
It also explains why he knows so much
But so little in 2016
Well he been there for milenias
Can Dark Age do quick swaps?
It should but youll dont need it this time
I was able to clear it without a quick swap on ETNAL. My question is, do I need to do a quick swap to get it done quickly.
only 50 days
nobody knows if TDA will have quick swapping, fast swap effect in eternal is heavily used in more adept quick switching and it wasnāt even an intended mechanic, we will just have to find out
Eternal tooltips also show a quick swap, wasn't it originally intended?
They attempted to patch out quickswitching in 2.0 ( got rid of most FSE sources, reverted the change in the next update due to backlash ) the tip screen for that was made in 4.0, and even then doesnāt utilize FSE, it definitely wasnāt intended, but itās so commonly used that calling it a glitch is a stretch even if it is one in a technical sense
I wonder what the BFG equivalent will be in The Dark Ages
I'm worried that the machine gun will still be a bad weapon due to a quick swap.
Every machine gun was so bad except for the chain gun shield
in the reboot series
I actually really like the upgrade that splits it into four
Looking at available gameplay, probably won't be as big as it was in Eternal if it's still there
no doom dark age gifs
Well i learned that there will be way more enemies on screen than doom eternal
not a problem tbh
I view it as a good thing, I don't like how fast eternal was
same
to each their own i guess? dont think i ever had a problem with game's pace
The machine gun wonāt even be a normal slayer weapon
It was the normal weapon in the classic doom.
In The Dark Ages it will be a titan slaying weapon
. . .
What
Yes we will probably won't have the chain gun in regular gameplay
While in classic doom it was a regular gun, TDA isn't a 1:1 copy of classic doom, and it has its own features and styles.
Because TDA is after classic doom but before DOOM 2016
Given its entire vibe, quickswapping might not even be a big part of the combat loop, which is good imo
Exactly :3
And we must remember, the footage we've seen could be months old, from a older build
When I play with Atlan, I think the only weapon is the chain gun.
Punch
Pls
There's probably a alt melee option.
I wanna see more maykr types.
Because clearly there's new types

Yes, the chonkyr and the one in front of him [I actually think that's Samur but eh]

Cute
Like who is this.
Armored Makyr
Yknow who he kinda looks like
Samurā¦
Samur but in a time of war
Yea there's some bits that are a bit off, but we don't know what samur looked like at that time
Samur getting punished.
We do know that Samur did the divinity machine on the Slayer sometime before the Unholy Crusades
Or maybe at the beginning of the Unholy Crusades
Idk š¤·āāļø
He served as the khan maykr's advisor iirc, but then he blessed the slayer during the seige of Taras nabad, and he was banished, so I presume that's what that scene is
Wait⦠actually nvm
I thought that maybe the chonkyr is that timeās Khan Maykr but the one in eternal is the one in that time
What is the rank of ahzrak in hell?
Nawh, the khan maykr has been the only khan known to the sentinels, there's a masculine one in urdak, but that's like. His corpse.
I think he's a judge.
He has a ordator ring, which is odd, and we don't see them in higher levels of maykr [seraphs/khans] so I presume it's apart of the church/religious caste
Because
Nawh that was a joke by a member here š
Like the deacons
Who have a very similar ring
I got a dumb idea
What if, instead of the divinity machine, it was the
-# femininity machine
The trans machine.

Dark ages
Middele ages
End ages
New ages
Down Ages
Hope they show a new demon teaser today, or at the very least new Hugo commentary.
Mhm, same
Up Ages
The Good ages
what's happening here
the period of time during which occurred technological regression, drought and famine
his head shape is oddly dented
Is the story between the ending of 2016 and the opening of ETERNAL yet to be revealed?
Will they add doom the dark ages too the switch 2?
probably not
Maybe, definitely not on original switch tho. Right now we can only wait and see.
If rumors regarding the power of switch 2 are real then 720p 30 fps experience is to be expected
Eternal essentially says there can only be one living Khan at a time, and that they're sort of technically all the same person.
The Khan Maykr, as a role, normally exists for 10,000 years - then they die naturally, their mind is uploaded into the Maykr Singularity, and a new Khan is built/born/whatever in their place.
The Khan we see in Eternal is the only one the Argenta ever saw. She's a special case - she's been alive far, far longer than a Khan is supposed to be on account of her indulgence in Argent Energy, and the lack of a proper life/death cycle thanks to the Father leaving Urdak.
The supposed last Khan's corpse in Urdak is something I don't really like to think about. Hugo said it was a Khan, but I don't think this is supported by the game itself. I think this was a dumb answer of his and it doesn't align with normal Maykr lore.
I would sooner believe it's an Angel or something that got way too far into Transfiguration before they could delay it with Argent Energy, so it's a monster they have incapacitated.
Hell yeah fuck the switch lmao
I've taken it as a rule of thumb to never fully trust anything Hugo Martin says lorewise about doom, he's a director not a writer.
Yeah. Though even regardless of his role, if he were the sole person responsible for Doom's story writing I still would not take everything he says as absolute fact.
The reality is that sometimes you forget shit and you have to pull something out of your ass. Hugo has been asked lots of impromptu questions and he gives answers that are sometimes reliable and sometimes they're clearly just pulled out for the answer, and you can't blame him since it's not like he can go consult with all the Codex entries and get back to you.
Like "the Whiplash is the first female demon," a claim he said that is objectively and verifiably incorrect.
The Spiderdemon of Doom 1993 is the first demon to be explicitly referred to with female words. The Doom II manual jokes: "Hi, mom."
The Spiderdemon, Mother Demon, Doom 3's Vagary, and Doom 2016's Spider Mastermind are all female demons that joined the series before the Whiplash did.
what even was the vagary, like honestly how does that along with other doom 3 stuff fit with the story of hell?
been curious about that for a while, since if it's true that hell is the same hell across the franchise.
that means the doom 3 incarnation is still canon.
Vagaries are a spider monster, basically, with psychic powers. There's multiple of them. I can verify they're female because they're pregnant - you can see the embryo/fetus/whatever of a Mancubus in the Vagary's body as you fight it in Doom 3.
This is not really a commentary on humans and biological sex. I wouldn't really take the presence of pregnancy to be a confirmation of the female gender with humans - trans people rock. But we have no indication of this identity as existing in Hell's culture, or if Vagaries are even sapient and would be able to quantify this.
So I'm just going by the logic you'd use with animals.
I'd say asking him questions that are important to the lore, and those answers, aren't the best to rely on, however if the question was something about a [lorewise] insignificant character like the intern, I'd say to agree with him, unless it already clashes
Along with the other stuff, Doom 3 happens, timeline-wise, during that huge eons-long stretch between the classic Doom games and the modern Doom games. You have to understand, from Hell's perspective, this is just a blip on an incredibly long span of time. When we see a Vagary after seeing the Spiderdemon, it's like if an alien visited Earth back in prehistoric days and saw a T Rex, then visited 2025 and saw chickens.
Right right, forgot that hell time in doom doesn't work the same as earth, time dilation or something along those lines.
Hell is gigantic, it has a very diverse plethora of species, many with a diverse plethora of subspecies to them. So Doom 3's weirder demons or weird redesigns of demons can be explained as different genuses of existing demon species, or mutations.
Also it's different Earths anyway.
OG Doom's Earth isn't Doom 3's Earth, and neither of them are Doom 2016/Eternal's Earth. So a relative Earth time isn't relevant to Hell anyway in the wider scope of things.
Also mono, how do you think maykrs change their form? If I read it correctly, drones are essentially infants/children that then mature into a other maykr like the deacons or any other types, would they shed their outer shell? [Like a bug]
Makyr biology is so strange to me, like are they machines? cyborgs? a mix between?
cause I mean under her armour the khan is fleshy and seemingly organic.
It is implied through various texts that Maykrs are in their natural form completely mechanical, but have grown organic parts because of the Transfiguration.
Hugo's comments on the Transfiguration frame it as a mutation of flesh. The Maykrs' divine robotic parts become flesh. Imagine if your computer's keyboard keys turned into fingernails, and the motherboard suddenly had veins replace the wires. It has skin instead of plastic, a thin membrane instead of a screen.
Lowkey that would look hella cool
This is why it terrifies the Maykrs. Ever since the Father left they can't voluntarily die and be reborn - their bodies degrade into flesh, and flesh brains can't handle the immense intelligence and memories of a Maykr, so it inevitably drives them insane. They lose their minds and become monsters.
I wonder, how do they like, reproduce?
The idea here is that the Khan has already partially succumbed to the Transfiguration, and the Argent Energy has only delayed the inevitable rather than reversed it. So she hides the flesh with armor and metal.
do they reproduce, or are they manufactured somehow?
I don't really think they do. They manufacture each other. The natural life/death cycle of a Maykr is that they're basically printed out of the Maykr Singularity, then the Transfiguration allows them to voluntarily die, let themselves be uploaded back into the Singularity, and be reborn as another Maykr.
But the Father is required for this process. He left, so they can't die. It's just degrading and being stuck in a dying, mutating body.
I like to think it's during transfigured period tbh, but that's my headcanon
also where does all this info come from aside from codexes ingame?
I've read deep into them and never found stuff like this
A lot of it comes from external sources like the art/lore book
flesh⦠and metal
It's the opposite to adeptus mechanicus
Shit... where do I find this thing?
Things, and the artbook you can buy from the bethesda store, the lorebook came w the collectors edition of eternal
@hard thistle you ready for an entirely new DOOM game to delve into the lore?? hopefully get some questions answered
Urdak is very Giger unsurprisingly, especially even more prominent in concept art
I wanna see more maykr types.
itās ALIVE in concept art!!
can I still get the lorebook nowadays?
Codexes, the art book, the lorebook, occasionally dev comments from Hugo. You can find transcripts and scans of the books I mentioned online.
I'm definitely excited, especially since it's focusing on one of my favorite parts of the universe, being the Sentinels. I'm hoping they go all in on Sentinel culture and really immerse us in what life is like on Argent D'Nur.
I have a few concerns about the timeframe and I'm worried they'll retcon said things Eternal told us about the Argenta in the Codex. But I'll just have to wait for the game to see if they fuck that part up or not.
You might be interested in the lore FAQ and lore guide I wrote and pinned in #general. The guide is very long but has a compendium of shit like this - it was meant to be a resource you could refer to for conversations like this.
Taras Nabad is my favorite eternal level, Meathook my favorite track
from screenshots weāve seen. thereās TOTALLY a part that looks like the first marauder bridge intro section of TN
time will tell, with the gap of time iām curious what theyāll do since we know the ending will not be ||ending up in the coffin in 2016|| ⦠wonder where the DLC will go?
Hell yeah, I'll have a look st that when I can.
I've always preferred the maykrs, what makes the sentinels so interesting for you?
I believe they said on the whiteboard that huge siege level is Taras Nabad. I'm convinced the game will start right when you become the Slayer, and then you'll get sidetracked for a level or two before showing up at Taras Nabad to fuck up the Dreadnought.
canāt believe itās less than 2 months away
If I were in their position I'd likely have the game end with the discovery of Nekravol. You save the day and kick the villain's ass, only to learn in a cliffhanger ending that the Maykrs are in league with Hell and building a huge soul factory with Sentinel slaves. Civil war incoming - cliffhanger.
If they don't retcon the implied timespan of the Unholy Wars they can do this with some timeskips.
Then, the DLC could cover the Argenta Civil War - have you fighting Loyalist Sentinels, reintroduce Marauders as enemies, have it end off with the Betrayal as the Slayer is stranded in Hell.
dang you have this ready
Then it would lead into the Testaments. You'd be leading directly into the timespan the Testaments describe - the Slayer's eons-long rampage through Hell, before he is incapacitated.
the doom 64 ending
I like the idea of a medieval society that isn't actually medieval - they just really like the aesthetic, in reality they are super advanced, have colonized entire galaxies, and are worshipping a race of machines masquerading as angels.
I just really like this idea where everything seems medieval but in reality you're fighting for a race of super advanced sci-fi proto humans. I think that element of the Sentinels is really unique, how the tech has gotten so advanced but societally they value fighting ability and strength above most other things. They're strong and brave and proud, really admirable people - but they're also colonists, there's probably a lot of blood that was shed under the Sentinel flag, and a lot of the fall of Argent D'Nur was because of their own hubris and willing blindness to the Maykrs' crimes.
thatās one thing about urdak. itās not a Biblical Heaven, itās ⦠fake, almost. they try and act all celestial, but⦠theyāre just as evil as the demons
and i wouldnāt say itās trying to say āBiblical angels are actually bad, hereās this parallelā, but that they are not what they seem. in reference to the Bible, which DOOM has pulled from since 1993, maybe theyāre akin to the serpent in the garden. true Satan. though DOOM games never come out and say that.
Power and greed corrupts. we learned that with the undertones of the UAC in doom 2016!
orrrrr i could be off base as im not a lore pro
i think it can check out mostly though
I see, i do agree with you that they are fucking cool, I think for me at least, the maykrs are aligned with the only thing close to religion I believe in, the whole divine machine, they've quite literally hooked me, and I am just as much a fool as the sentinels who believed in the maykrs
I also like to compare the maykrs to what AM is, isn't it interesting that the maykrs are angelic machines, while AM described flesh as divine? I love that sorta shit
No, you're pretty on the money with this. My interpretation here is that "real" heaven does not exist - contemporary religious depictions of heaven are the result of a telephone game spanning thousands of years as Argenta colonized Earth and eventually became humans. Unfortunately, the source behind our beautiful interpretations of Heaven is just the wasteland of a bunch of narcissistic, evil machines who think they should be worshipped.
iām coming from the angle of, Id has influenced the Bible or pulled from since the 90s, but put their own spin on world building, and they wonāt directly come out and say God, Satan, in that way, as to not alienate. though when i interviewed hugo he definitely had some thoughts and ideas behind Davoth
itās like they pull from, but make their own worlds
To me this ties into the Samuel/Seraphim reveal and it's why I like it. It really cements the tie between the Maykrs and the UAC. The UAC is fucking evil. They're against genuine human expression or rest, they thrive on an industrial complex that relies on overworking people and morally unethical experiments. And even before Olivia, they operated like a cult. Hayden's presence demanded worship.
Modern Doom essentially posits the idea that the UAC's bureacracy and capitalism isn't just evil - it's a primordial evil, an inherent evil, one that has existed since the beginning of reality. It didn't start with humans, it started with the Maykrs. Like the UAC they're a bunch of morally bankrupt narcissists thriving on exploitation, borderline slave labor, and worship.
tower of babel e2m8, every level name in E4 of ultimate doom is from a verse
I do wonder if id software took any inspiration from the short story/radio drama/game when it came to the maykrs, VEGA in particular. The level in 2016 "I AM VEGA" makes me wanna think they at least looked at AM when they were making VEGA's character
how do we reconcile that samuel goes from a human, into a robot to delay/fight his cancer, into finding out heās a whole otherworldly being?
that the human picture of sam we see in ARC on the wall in 2016, that he just inhabited a human body?
Give me a minute, I had it summarized in the document.
i think they donāt want to specifically reference real world things, like they wonāt 1:1 recreate the Bibleās Hell but make their own - which looks different across the games
Ah, right, here we go. On Samuel Hayden being the Seraphim, and how it works:
Samur Maykr was trusted to take care of the Fatherās Life Sphere after the battle between him and Davoth. A long time later, Samur would bring Doomguy to the Divinity Machine, turning him into the Slayer; he then fled to the Luminarium, where he kept the Fatherās Life Sphere, and stole it away to Ingmoreās Sanctum. He then brought the Fatherās consciousness to Earth.
**On Earth, Samur disguised himself as a cloned human being named Samuel Hayden, **and eventually established the Fatherās consciousness as VEGA, an AI that had no memory of its real identity. He then would go through the lore info detailed in Doom 2016.
It is unclear if Samuel Hayden retained his memory of Samur in this form; theories have been made.
Basically, yes, he inhabited a cloned human's body. It's unclear if he lived a whole life as Samuel from birth, or if he started out as an adult, but I'd reckon the former.
aha!
we know they had ideas of the maykrs in 2016, especially in the DLC, through empyrian and argent breachās maykr statues
it really is about just taking something and theyāve made their own world from it
I presume, like what you said in the document, that he unlocked the memories the more "maykr-esque" he got [the upload to the fortress] but unlike vega he stayed quiet
I personally don't even think Hayden remembers being the Seraphim in 2016, but that is just me.
I am not the villain in this story
i do think that, even if they just take from, and make it their own world⦠Nekravol in Eternal, go there, turn off the music, look at the walls, and just listen to the ambient wails
2016 Kadingir sanctum wasnāt that brutal.
wasteland vs torture chamber
Yeah, this, but it's just a theory. My interpretation is that Hayden remembered nothing of his former self as a human; when he uploaded his mind into the robot body, he "unlocked" much of the instincts and recollections, but just saw them as new knowledge; and then finally began to suspect his true identity once he was uploaded into the Fortress, finally accepting it by the time TAG1 starts.
It's a progression where he goes from human -> robot similar to Maykr -> architecture outright made by Maykrs. As his mind is given more space to grow, he can remember more.
I assume that Samuel's body did still have parts of the human Hayden's brain, so he couldn't fully understand or unlock those memories.
doesnāt the Khan Maykr have no idea that Nekravol even exists
She ordered it dawg š
oh
olivia did something similar - made that suit to fight against the painful idiopathic scoliosis, yeah?
and over time we see her become weaker and weaker, as she continues to deal with the demons.
by the end, sheās frail
they promised her so much. and of course, lied.
Yeah. I see it as a compromise. Early Doom basically said "yeah this is the actual, real, Christian Hell, motherfucker." That is really cool for back then, but when you're writing a modern sci-fi horror story you may want to go for something that gives you more creative freedom. Hence the Jekkad lore, Davoth, the Maykrs - you make up your own lore for it and then justify it as "well this is the original stuff. The Bible is just us recontextualizing what already existed in-universe."
early DOOM does have a story, itās just not as forefront as modern. but itās 20 something years different
all goes back to influence, but make their own worlds, it seems
Yeah, Olivia needed the exoskeleton(?) to remain mobile. It's causing her excruciating pain basically every second, but she refuses medicine as she thinks it will cloud her mind.
This was how the Aranea Imperatrix lured her into their plan, by exploiting this and promising her a new form without pain.
thatās it yeah!
Yeah definitely. They just didn't have the tech to really tell a more advanced story without it coming at the expense of gameplay. So a lot of modern Doom's thing in regards to the older stuff is recontextualizing it under the umbrella of a brand that can now afford to tell more in-depth stories.
Hence, the classic games basically being prehistoric shit from Hell's POV.
i really think that, and i know iāve mentioned it earlier. thereās more pull and influence.
a world with no pain, suffering⦠sounds familiar
but of course. demons are evil, and arenāt going to do the right thing to her.
Yknow I too would make a deal w demons to be rid of this agony it's balls
S p i d e r M a s t e r m i n d
Well, if you look at it a certain way, the demons did not lie. She was promised a new form, and she was given it. It's just a Monkey's Paw thing - she didn't imagine it'd be a horrific vessel for a Dark Lord.
My mindās in a weird place so I may say the most random things (still DOOM tho :3)
everyone pulls out the carmack story line but itās there - also influenced from culture. the punch your commanding officer is from a movie. Total Recall i think. DOOMās name is from a movie, the color of money
modern doom references movies. evil dead trilogy etc
the love of the pop culture has stayed
Much like the Khan. The Maykrs promised the Argenta if they worshipped them, they'd have eternal life within Urdak after death. They weren't lying, they just didn't mention it'd be as soul juice flowing through the Maykrs' veins.
ooooh shoot
yet still at its core. it benefitted them. she was under the pretense of it saving her, but she was not careful what she wished for
i didnāt realize this olivia theme came back
I do actually agree with Olivia and not taking medication, the type of meds she'd be put on would legitimately cause her head to become foggy
Yeah. The original games were fueled by nerd love and culture - Evil Dead, Aliens. What I like about the modern games is that this love for nerd culture isn't gone, it's just newer. Now it's for shit like Warhammer, Pacific Rim. Things like that.
itās all there still! hugo even worked on pacific rim
my head is already foggy
This is one of the many reasons I prefer Eternal over 2016 - the nerd influence and unflinching identity of Doom is more present in Eternal, whereas lots of 2016 feels a bit by-the-books to appease a company that didn't have faith in it.
this is a cool video from hugo drawing for it https://youtu.be/eIGsB0zXzGc?si=38yiNI_65Ym4j8yd
11 years old
Concept artist from Pacific Rim sketching the head of a Jaeger
once the reboot showed success they opened up more
Yeah. Could move on from rehashing Doom 3 and trying something new.
I've been on morphine and ketamine before, both intense pain medications [only dispensed at the hospital for legal reasons] but whew I couldn't really even stand up with out getting dizzy, I don't blame her for not taking meds.
she just didnāt want it to get in the way of her plans maybe
itās more than just āhey itāll make me foggyā
she wanted that power
meds would prevent that
Olivia is a tragic figure IMO and I don't blame her for a lot of the earlier stuff in her backstory. Hell thrives on exploiting vulnerable people in pain. They did the same thing to Valen.
After I had surgery, I needed to keep my foot suspended in the air. When I did not, I got so dizzy and felt I needed to vomit, so I had to lay down
But she's not blameless. In that regard she shares similarities with Betruger, who embraced that shit because he was just a psycho to begin with.
I mean it's hard to get that power when the hospital nurses wouldn't let her walk more than a few meters away from a bed š
that's so real Olivia
Hrr a lot of my memories playing doom 3 as a kid is failing me God dammit
I do remember Betruger being a ass tho
It was almost 8 years ago now jesus
He was a total freak, yeah. He's not like Olivia. There's mentions of him acting different once Hell contacted him, but most of the game points to Betruger just naturally being an evil shithead. In 2016 they act like Olivia's being used, but in Doom 3 Betruger seems to be genuinely respected by Hell.
Like he's not just helping them. He's been given command over Hell's forces. He's acting like he's one of them, he's been given authority over them - I think him fusing with the Maledict was probably something he wanted and embraced, rather than a horrific fate like it was for Olivia.
Poor girl. I need to draw her more. She needs to enjoy life in a wheelchair because she needs to sit the fuck down.
OLIVIA! STOP STANDING UP, YOUR BACK WILL BREAK
Olivia was more manipulated than what Betruger was imo, while she did fuck up, she was motivated by something I can sympathise with, Betruger was just a power hungry ass it seems
Her back's already fucked it can't get worse
-# it got worse
Yeah. The Imperatrix exploited a vulnerability of Olivia's to convince her she could escape her chronic pain. Betruger didn't have anything like this. He just wanted power.
Olivia⦠your legs will stop existing if you dont take a seat
How aware was Olivia when it came to the maykrs? Was she aware of their presence, or was she purely fixated on hell?
She's British she isn't gonna sit down
We have no clue, partially because the Maykrs weren't a part of the story when they were writing 2016. But Olivia seemed convinced that she could ascend through Hell alone - she was worshipping the Imperatrix as a God and believed Hell could ease her pain. I doubt she knew the Maykrs existed beyond a vague idea based on Deag Ranak's correspondence.
well she should atleast get a cup of tea
Hm. See, this is why I don't think Olivia should be hated on as much as she is, i can speak from experience. Drawing her has a single response and it's something to do w the Imperatrix getting her face blown off. For some reason. But she isn't as hated as the khan maykr or Samuel, and I find it interesting
i wanna see us take down Niloxās guardian and get that token. heās so surprised in Eternal
The Khan is hated? Thatās a first for me.
I'm inclined to assume she is hated due to the fact, unlike the khan maykr, she isn't particularly "attractive" in any normal way and yes ik the khan maykr isn't but she's significantly more aligned w female beauty standards than Olivia.
But this might be me being biased
Well, Olivia isn't completely blameless. She exhibits a lot of the disregard for human life Samuel has. She did really awful shit at Hell's behest, and I think a good amount of it was fueled by selfishness. I think she was desperate for the pain to end and she was willing to hurt other people to achieve it.
In the Argent D'Nur codex entry, she ends up taunting and deriding her followers in service of Hell by the end.
You will be destroyed by the demons, while I will be made a god. My immortality is assured, while you will writhe in perpetual agony at the bottom of the darkest hole in Hell. You will be forgotten. Your life, your loved ones, your achievements and failures are nothing. A blank space on the canvas of time.
Thank you for your service. May you rot in Hell.
It is interesting, I'd really like something detailing her before the entire thing we see in 2016, if she was always kind of a bitch, or if Samuel sponsoring her had something to do w it
There's also a very real chance Olivia never knew Samuel as a human
I imagine Samuel's presence was part of it. Having that man mentoring you is bound to entail losing a bit of your humanity, I think.
... is it bad I wouldn't mind being taught by him? I think he is valuable in that sense. Someone should humble his ass by making him a Australian high school teacher.
Oh I'm sure he's very intelligent. Could probably teach fine. But if he's helping you climb the corporate ladder, well... you'll probably get the corporate equivalent of a cult leader having you sacrifice someone as initiation.
Hell fuckin yeah ima sign up gotta get money somehow.
He'd genuinely fucking hate me š I don't understand most things and he looks like the kind of guy to yell at you if you don't understand
Tbf tho I don't think he likes anyone but Olivia, vega and sorta the slayer
Nobody he likes more than himself, anyway.
I mean can you blame him? He's kinda allowed to be arrogant after everything he's accomplished compared to a regular human
I wonder if they'll make a game with a female protagonist next, that would be a nice change of pace, and Hugo himself seemed to be interested in the idea.
I think a some kind of doom spin-off about Crash from Quake 3 would be great
I'd be down for this. I don't really think Doomguy, as an archetype, has to specifically be a man.
Would be happy to see a female main character in DOOM for a piece of media that doesn't actually suck
lol same
Intern better anyways
Bruh I totally thought may was next month
i want it to be this month
all i want is for the game to release already š
Next month is April
oh concept art post
I don't even know what type of gun this is but I'm glad they did their darndest to make this the most "hell yeah" shit possible
I want another serious DOOM game in the future but that might just be me
it can be serious but also have crazy shit in it
I mean a more grounded, gritty one
I'm fine with the series being silly but I'd like another DOOM 3 style game in the future. Maybe under another label, just one made by id
H3 ODST style game set during invasion of earth?
Not sure what H3 ODST is like so I can't speak of it
basically a halo spin off where you play as a normal human instead of super soldier (like Master Chief)
I think we were gonna get that with DOOM 4 1.0. The footage we got from it looked like RAGE, would've been dope to play
Idk if I should get the premium or the standard one DOOM: The dark ages. Are they both worth it per chance and what's the difference?
With premium u will get early access to the game starting on may 13th (2 days early) and u will also get some in game skins as well as the dlc(s) when it releases for no additional cost
I got collectors so I will get those benefits
So a good break down is out of the 100 u spend is 60 on game, 20 on dlc, and 20 on early access, artbook, soundtrack, and skins. If that sounds worth it go for it
Ya premium is just worth the money
What one did u get?
I managed to snag an Xbox edition
Nice
I knew my pc would be able to run the game but not well so I opted for the monolith of a graphics card thatās the series X
The game was built for Xbox first so thatās were I think it will have best preformance
U shouldnāt, with a good enough graphics card Iām just saying the game was made around Xbox first
So it should be able to have its peak performance on Xbox
Or max graphics whatever u wanna call it
Interesting how instead of mods, theyāre called classes with different gun variations.
i think its cause we can swap guns between levels or something
like dmc?
never played dmc, but i think there will be a loadout system and instead of gun mods, you can swap out the weapons in each class
that sounds annoying ngl
I can't wait for this game
no doom game had weapon mods before 2016
like i could see a way for them to do it but it sounds very limiting in a sense
im sure they will have some good system for that if that is the case tho
I think simplicity is one of the goals of tda
They want to streamline the game
in 5 days we will know much much more
Yoo
i can't wait for the Skibidi class for the shotgun, or the rizzy class for the chaingun
Sigma class for the bfg lol
exactly
Gigachad class for melee only
You expect more information on April Fools?
What
The 31st is in 5 days
iām cleared to post on Monday
thatās the day everyoneās been saying on reddit and stuff, when we will get new vids
Sorry that I live in Australia, a timezone that the industry never gives a fuck about.
Previews dropping that day?
ive always wanted to visit there
you very much live in the future!
yea mine goes up then
whoa thatās like 1am thursday for you. or so.
Come visit, it's nice, just don't be stupid and touch wild animals and if Ur American, don't tip. It's seen as rude/flirty here
do you think TDA will have master levels?
Iām way to scared of spiders
Probably not. Sounds like this will be the biggest Doom game yet, so Iām sure there will be plenty of side content to make up for it.
The sliders also offer a ton of creative freedom and challenge.
A shame Doom Eternal wasnāt able to fully realize that idea. The ones that released were awesome though.
i think the increase in difficulty is to do with the enemy placement
like the classic doom
anyone else wonder if the doom hunterswill return in their original non robotic forms in tda
yep, they were seen in the trailer as Agaddon Hunters
which trailer? i must be slow asf š
the first one
i gotta go rewatch it now
look in #screenshots
Sometimes I wonder what the full extent of Doom 2016's damage is, and then I see dickless wonders saying shit like 'I hope TDA isn't even mildly challenging' or 'I hope it doesn't have any colors that aren't orange or brown'.
the challenge lies in the sliders
im lowkey worried about tda's performance bc my pc doesnt even meet the minimum specs
It's like all their hopes and dreams took stock in a videogame. That's so fucking depressing.
doom the chad ages
Well on the bright side we know thereās purple
will dark ages be avaible on ps4?
No. It will only be on current-gen consoles.
pc minimum rec?
On the Steam page
arl ty
yeah, also note that specs are for 1080p 60 fps experience
if you have weaker but compatible hardware you will still be able to run it, just with worse performance and visuals
Wasn't there supposed to be alot more master levels than what we have now?
Some kind of ng+ master campaign could be cool
ng+ with all master levels would be a good and fun way to do the usual difficulty increase nd+ has in other games i think
This happens with all great game sequels
Y game is bad becuase it's not X
We had the same thing happen with doom eternal: some hated it because it wasnt 2016.
childern yearn for Doom 4 1.0
New PC Gamer has been published
Doom on the cover - awaiting scans
there should be some new info
Yeah. Thereās a lot of scrapped content in the files for planned MLs. One for DH Base iirc. They were never completed.
Scope and expectations also grew after SGN ML. If they were developed similarly to Cultist Base or ARC, weād probably have gotten a lot more- but also less of a renewed experience.
I prefer what we got tbh.
covid fucked up a lot of eternals plans for the future
Yea, you could tell in the dlcs, also with battlemode
and the ~~loss ~~cancellation of invasion mode
I feel like that was a mix of covid and them just realizing it wasnt feasible with how the game was set up
Taras Nabad was actually in development early on, but naturally it changed over time. I asked jason oāconnell who was the lead level designer before he left. he also made sgn ML, world spear ML, i think
and heās behind the 5 marauder easter egg
would be interesting to see what he would come up on dark ages if he was still at Id
couple others left in that time frame too
chris cantero went to be an indie dev, he animated the marauder GKs, some shield saw preproduction etc
mark diaz was a programmer, worked on blood punch. he moved over to senior dev at insomniac, spider-man company
sounds like he would torture us further, such as adding the spirit to tda
Most people didnāt really like or care about pvp though
That was a safe cancel
Did anyone see the new mancubus clip
I've grown to like the design, it's very ogre-ish
they are also much larger than the eternal mancubus.
the 2016 manc was bigger too, but not like the tda one, it probably eats other smaller mancubi
pc gamer scans out in the wild,
some good new nuggets, a concept art of the armored hell knight
rockelt launcher
where can i find them?
Usually the Doom twitter/bluesky or their website/slayers club I believe
Also day 63 of 112
The W H A T
i found it a few years ago
itās nasty
spent a few hours between searching and getting hints from jason on twitter
What level is it and where? I'm about to do an UltraNightmare run and I feel like that could be good practice
world spear
canāt self promo but i have a video or 2 on it
I mean the magazine scans
I have a lot of experience in the game but I can't say I'm good at higher difficulties.
I used to be #1 on the leaderboard for horde mode on I'm Too Young To Die (OSHA compliant skeleton my beloved) but I don't think that helps with UN
UN is a whole thing yea. trigger enemy knowledge helps
I was just planning on getting better at quickswitching
thatās one of the least important things overall
Oh. I'm horrible at memorizing where enemies spawn. All I can remember is where there are Marauders
Are there other secret encounter easter eggs besides Five Guys Pizza and the 2 Tyrants in SGN?
Bro I just read it, we get to blow up tanks with our rocket launcher!
The power fantasy is gonna be unreal
not that i know of
Ok. What 3 runes should I go for first? Air control, Seek and Destroy, and Equipment Fiend?
air control first, then equipment fiend, and third savagery if you glory kill a lot, otherwise dazed and confused
Cool
i'd probably not recommend dazed and confused though
it's mainly useful in high level play
Pretty sure high level play is required for UN
depends on what you consider high level
i'm basing my definition on the skill ceiling, which makes it very hard to reach high level play
I consider quick switching between more than 2 weapons to be high level
quick swapping is not a valid indicator of skill
many people learn cool looking combos but forget movement, decison making etc
i stayed away from air control because it would create bad habits
but that was really only a issue for me because of played a shitload of battlemode
currently playing without air control to learn grounded combat :D
On another topic, does anyone have a video of all the weapon skins that's up to date?
so sad i cant get darkages cuz im saveing for a pc :(
good movement is a better indication of skill
true
movement and positioning are often very strong indicators of overall skill level
and they are the 2 most important things xd
crazy movement is fun
I'm glad the movement is slowing down in TDA
truth
i've recently gotten to give tips to loads of players - very fun - and there are definitely things that almost everyone needs to work on, and positioning is one of those things
Iām almost disappointed that Iāve learned as much as I have, thereās only a finite amount of skips that exist out there, thereās always unrestricted stuff but thatās an entirely different ballpark
itās why Iām ready for TDA, tons of things will be discovered
yup
will be nice to be there from the start
with eternal i've constantly been playing a game of catch-up, which did go decently well, but being there from the start will be great
I really liked the fast pace of eternal tbh
Do we really know what they mean by slow paced tho
I'll probably be turning up the speed slider š
But, player speed and game pacing are different things.
Doomguy moves faster than the slayer, but the original two games (I'm excluding wads) don't play as hectic as Eternal, to me.
My guess is that it would be slower paced than eternal
I think there's zero chance of that
Ehh I wouldn't be surprised
We don't know if they meant slower base speed, or if it's more grounded, we aren't taking into account decision making
I hope the decision making is slower, having a processing disorder and playing a fast game isn't fun
If by slower paced they mean, "explore the level how you want" that's not really a bad thing unless you like very narrow and linear objectives
Good thing the sliders are there
If it's like classic doom, you can control the pade of how you traverse I guess, but in the heat of battle, you probably would need to map things out and figure out how to approach enemy formations
Good. Like warhammer 3
That's just my guess tho
Exactly, not braindead like some people think it's going to be
It's just gonna be different
Also BLOWING UP A TANK WITH A ROCKET LAUNCHER AS THE SLAYER IS COOL IDC WHAT ANYONE SAYS
You know there's gonna be maniacs out there with every setting at 100%
It's just gonna be different, like every other doom game is
No doom game is ever the same bar doom 1 and 2
Even then doom 2 does feel different
I'm hoping that the gameplay doesn't force close-up killing too much. That kinda got tiring for me in 2016 and Eternal. I'd like to be able to mow down the bad guys from some distance
At least, have the choice
Not as much jumping and shooting
Not really a problem tbh
If it feels good, and requires thought like any other doom game, i don't see the problem
Siege mode? When I played them, you had to get up close to glory kill / chainsaw / flame for resources
I also don't see how much less we'd be shooting
Did you upgrade your runes?
They have some busted abilites iirc
Probably not less shooting, just less movement/slower paced combat
Yeah like less verticality but there is more horizontal movement
Probably not š
So it evens out
I can't remember tbh. I played Eternal about half-way through and just stopped playing for some reason. It never drew me back in.
i'd imagine the "true" speed of the game (i.e. inputs, decision making and stuff like that) will stay fast, but not on the level of eternal
I mean I'm fine with that
Iām racking my brain trying to think of slow paced fps games but I canāt
me too, for sure
Only ones I can think of are the Metro series
Fallout 4.
True
Maybe some aren't fine with it, but eternal isn't going anywhere for a while
Last fallout game I played was 3 on the 360 tho
It's similar paced
Series just didnāt have much attraction for me tbh
i don't see why people wouldn't be fine with eternal staying :D
I meant that people are distraught at where the franchise is going without considering the fact thst they can play eternal whenever they want to
They also look surface level and may not read the magazines like we do, so they miss out on crucuial parts on how the game play flows in tda
For example
When the dev direct aired, some individuals were going around saying thst combat chess is dead because, "the enemies weren't moving" based on their orthogonal roles in what they've seen
F.E.A.R, Battlefield, S.T.A.L.K.E.R, Rainbow Six, Robocop: Rogue City... there's loads that are slow by my definition of slow
Yea fair, but I donāt think itāll be that slow paced lol
hopefully not š
yeah i don't get saying tda is bad before it's even released loll
i'm optimistic it will be just as deep as eternal - just played a bit slower
Yo
I'm hoping it'll play like the classic Doom games
Ofc, it's okay to have concerns especially in this time period but some people are just doomers
Well your in luck
the newest entries in the Rainbow Six franchise are considered fast paced. Battlefield can also technically be considered medium/fast pace.
Stuff like Ground Branch, SWAT 4, Ready or Not, and some others can be somewhat considered slow.
i wonder when the second trailer is coming, should be pretty soon
about 90 days before release is the norm i think
Mhn, I'd expect some more info soon, given that some people have been given permission to post a preview iirc [this dude -> #the-dark-ages message ]
yah there is that, but we are also due for the next trailer
Hey mom
How many days left š
I really dont know what to feel at this point regarding the new details of TDA
I really don't want to see any gameplay until I play the game, but with the algorithm I will definitely see everything unintentionally
I am extremely hyped but I really want to see it first hand :/
Iam on the same boat lol
Probably gonna watch it anyway
Gonna be hard to resist
yeah well I hope I wont
but people will be posting a lot on social media and it will jump in my face no matter what
I mean they haven't posted anything that seems too spoiler-ish
It depends on what they can share
You can ignore ofc but this is for the people who are a bit on edge on how the game will feel like playing
I even saw the main menu on reddit and I was like ... fuck man... I wanted to see that first hand
I can't tell what's there tho
yeah its more about the experience
It's like the doomslayer on a pedestal with a coliseum inthe backround
I have no idea if it's an image or it just looks that good ingame
Could mute the doom account and related words maybe
but I got really sad when I saw Marauder's AI in action 1 month before the game was out
Because I was extremely surprised and amazed by it
yeah or just close everything
Lmao true
I mean they spoiled everything in the doom eternal trailers beforehand
Same with 2016 kinda
Icon of sin, khan mayker, marauder, tyrant, crucible
With Eternal I did try to avoid a little
2016 was new so I wouldnt know what to expect
Yeah hopefully they're more reserved about the info going forward
They're doing a good job so far
I mean the game seems really large, we haven't seen like any bosses or how large the roster is, how the cutscenes play out, how many missions there are
In eternal, you knew every boss jsut by the concept art lol
You're right but I was hoping they will leave it like it is now
problem is that lots of people joined that Event
It's up to you, I'd turn off notifications and maybe not check the dark ages tab after march 30th lol
How do I do that for every existing social media app?
How much social media apps do you use? I only use discord and youtube
yes

Sorry was that a dum dum question
nah, its ok
at the end of the day its still a game and we will know everything until the end of the spring
Oh alr
Yep, it's up to us to not spoil ourselves tho, so prepare thyself
problem is I am also working on TDA cosplay and I need every detail possible
it will be done before the game is out tho
"done" as in as much as I can see from the trailers and other people providing renders
I'd just ask content creators to share an image or something, drop down a comment and move on. Eventually they will personally answer you eithout spoiling the game
I'd ask horde mode gaming or allstin
got that too
the back is covered by the fur, which is ok because I dont really have to work on the back. I have the one from Eternal cosplay but there are no 3D renders or good looks about his back so I can replicate it
its pretty small
Also there is no model for the machine gun on his shoulder
Oh I see
I'm not sure how else you'd get a clear image besides a cutscene or a 3d model
Paint the back with the CS missing texture square
Bright purple and black checkered pattern
Same
Also
In the mancubus clip, the soundtrack sounded like it had horns blaring
So that's another medieval aspect of the soundtrack we're getting
Are we gonna see the sentinels w a little horn when the demons arrive š
Yes
Doot but scary
Speaking of little, I hope we get to see the little guy piloting the atlan chaingun
Cuz that is genuinly funny
The little guy.
Yes he looks like intern
Wait wha
Lemme send photo
Where is this š
Give me a moment I'm really slow
Take ur time dw
Oh there is a little dude
The intern returns let's fucking go
Stand ready for my arrival worm
You were given orders, you were given time, you were given more leeway than most and yet I find this planet unprepared for the arrival of our viltrum empire
Honestly excited to hear rest of TDA soundtrack
@crisp crown get a hobby.
Can you send it to me too?
Doom the chad ages
I am so excited for doom dark ages, I have it predownloaded on my Xbox along with every other doom game so I can replay all of them while I wait.
Yall is there any estimation as to how long TDA has been in development for?
Since 24
Since the dark ages
Tomorrow for sure
Most likely since around time of Eternal, i remember there were mentions of how exhausted everyone was working on 2 games at the same time
Anybody know where one could read the new PC gamer issue for free?
There is nothing new on it
The only interesting thing is the rocket launcher concept art
Anyone played dark ages demo or beta? Is it safe to buy in comparison to Eternal?
What
There aināt one
If youāve seen one it is scam
Noone can talk abt the play tests rn
Oh right, Mar 31ā¦
We'll just have to wait
damn that sucks They should release at least one demo or something
Hmm if your PC sucks then uhhhhh
game price is qite hig
Not really, it's the average price for a AAA game
my PC is just fine.
i7 10700k?
check them pc, it not regular
RTX 2060 Super?
Yeah it's mandatory RTX
how much is it? 70?
80
interesting
I'll buy game anyway probably.
Yeah, for the Americans around that
I mean it's not too bad
oh you poor soul
Have you seen Halo Infinite (campaign) or Black Ops 6
You have no idea how bad it is here š
Yeah but eternal is an old game (5 years)
either of those can be combatted by gamepass (at least Infinite)
120ish for base game
ok than
So will TDA
what are the spec recomedations for this one?
TDA is already on preorder on the Xbox app
oh yeah so it shouldn't be too bad
i7-10700k, 16 GB RAM, RTX 2060 Super and 100 GB available disc space
Oh yeah 1080p screen as well
Same on the ps app
And that's standard edition
Reminder that this is one of the absolute newest games to exist
Nice. So my rtx 4060 and 4k 240hz ryzen 7 8 gen will be just fine
shisss 110 bucks
I got the collectors edition tho so it was worth it
I think production quality is equal to price, not release date
Though the difference between PS and Xbox is uh Gamepass I think
Call of Duty games are ooold and they still cost a kidney
True
Mhm
If it will be as half as good as Eternal was than it's worth of that price
It was probably cheaper for me to buy TDA's collectors edition than just the premium
???
What are you on about
It's triple+ the price of Wolfenstein: The New Order, I expect it to be of that level of quality
Well I won't be playing it for a while anyway
Probably it will be better quality
Same, Iāll need to get an entirely new Xbox Series S just to play it
Very high bar
I'm hoping the fact they're cutting out the codex-based story means the story will be more coherent now
Why Xbox? Uhhhhh because cheaper than upgrading PC
and no multiplayer as well
Good thing, I donāt want to have to log in to Bethesda.net just to be able to play the game
game playing will be probably way different than previous two
They did good on the multiplayer before, but we got an MP-only game from them just a few years back, I'm fine with it being cut out for this one
I never play multiplayer so I am good too
I play it sometimes but I don't really care about it for FPS games
I wonder what kind of weapons will be
Soul Cube PLEASE
Skull crusher
It's around 160 for premium, and if we're comparing the TAG slayer statue, which for me was a bit over 240 for me, which gives us 400aud, and the TAG statue is much smaller than the TDA statue. So overall probably cheaper.
bone jearker š for secret weapon
While the collectors edition was only 340 for me :3
100 dollars for a deluxe edition is crazy ngl
I know it's the standard but it's still horrendous
It's the result of the Australian dollar not being worth shit to the American dollar
day 64 of 112
one whole minecraft stack of days
also can someone send me footage of Hugo saying Doom the dark ages
handful of new screenshots, posted on doom world. Have a good up close shot of the soldier minion thing ... not sure what the official name is yet
Doom world? Can I have the URL to it so I can yaknow be updated?
wont let me post links here
DM it
Me too
A lot of the weapons we see in TDA seem one-handed, due to the shield. So in theory, Doomguy mustve used them for dual wielding uses at least in a potential lore capacity. But mechanically, itd probably go against the focus on the shield. Because at the same time, i wonder if this could be the op...
oh it worked
second post down
Chain gun
The soldier in tda is my favorite soldier design
It's like 2016 but medieval
His face also reminds me of the witch deco from the classic games, I literally have no good reason for this I just thought of it
Does anyone Remember the name of the slayers dragon?
It was Slazel or something
Serrat
Bingus
Serrat :D
Is it known if it will be released on Nintendo Switch or Nintendo Switch 2?
Nup, if you try to run it on either of those it might blow up.
I have a feeling it will get a port to the switch 2
at some point in the future, probably not the switch 1 though
I don't know, I play Nintendo and I'm doing fine with Doom Eternal.
Switch 2 might run it, we don't know the specs
Switch 1 definitely will not run it, and even then a port to it is not gonna be profitable for them
there's a good chance it will come out on the switch 2 eventually
I am genuinely impressed they managed to port Eternal to the switch, just incredible
Yes but TDA is raytracing forced, and is only newgen consoles. I don't know how Nintendo will gonna fit a RTX capable card in something so small.
This is what I get for ordering a Nintendo console.
Yeah Nintendo has been weaker for a while
Funny how the one time in recent times they made a console comparable to the rest it flopped like utter shit
A RTX card is the size of a regular switch iirc
the rumor is that the switch 2 will in fact have an ray tracing compatible card
okay the card doesn't have to be that big just to support ray tracing lmao
look at laptops
true
the size has nothing to do with supporting that particular feature
Yes but those laptops are chunky, it's not the feature, it's the heat dispersal that would be the main issue imo
nvidia makes smaller, mobile cards that support ray tracing
where would you fit some fans in a slightly bigger Nintendo Switch
the Nintendo Switch can get pretty hot
Weaker consoles like this aren't benefitial to the gaming industry and I hope Nintendo and Xbox realise that
that's a funny way to put it
they totally ARE beneficial
they offer a cheaper entry point
I mean to the gaming industry as in developing games, phrased that weird
You need to slightly castrate your game to make sure it runs on these weaker systems just because they're in the market, this leaves a lot of potential out of the door because you just have to make sure it works and looks good
some games don't even get ported to the switch
And then we have the XSS
for Eternal I doubt they considered the switch at all until post launch
Comparing this to the steam deck, which is known to have some heating issues, even those laptops are known to have heating issues, because of how small they are. It wouldn't be surprising if it had the same sort of power as a ps4, maybe ps4 pro.
on the contrary I think designing games to run better on lower settings leads to improved optimization
That is a fair point but with how lacking the Switch is in comparison to the PS5 and XSX, which were its competitors for most of its life, it is obvious there have to be cuts if you wanna port to it
there's always gonna be super ultra settings no matter what
though in my experience this doesn't mean the PS5 or XSX version of the game looks worse, it just means the switch version is a very cut back version of the former 2
That's still a minus to the Nintendo users who prefer gaming at home rather than taking the console to go
I swear Nintendo just cannot make a console without giving it one setback
the plus is that they paid less for their console and have easy access to Nintendo's first party offerings
its also a portable console
and yeah, if they only play it at home they have a "minus" but they're also ignoring a core feature of the console
which to me, is a self imposed negative
Within those first party offerings to like the average user only a handful is gonna be enjoyed on a personal level, it's like, you don't need 3 different Mario Partys, is that a good trade-off for having a console that looks considerably worse when you switch to third-party stuff
look at the sales and you tell me
tell me if the average consumer has a problem with this
because the signs point to no from my perspective
It's not ignoring a core feature, it's just preference on how to use it. It being portable is a technological marvel and I can admit that, but portable and at-home gaming used to be seperate, now that you unify them people that sit at home are gonna have to put up with the issues of portable gaming
They don't, I'm just rambling about my personal thoughts on it. Most people don't care but I do not like the Switch because of this personally
i hope theres gonna be a trailer on the 31st when all those review embargos lift
iād watch it for sure
I just drew a modern style banshee, and just realised how cool legacy of rust enemies would be in this game
For me, Vassagos and Banshees would make the most sense
it could happen who knows
almost freaking cried out of excitement
I can't wait for this man
DOOM has been the only game that really made me a kid again, so much fun with this game
does the pre-install of the dark ages with xbox game pass come with the void skin? im not gonna pay $70 for the skin if not, but still curious
Iirc it does, that's the preorder bonus I think
Wait nvm read that wrong
Probably not but idk
You wouldn't get preorder bonuses from it as it's a release copy
okay thanks, thats a shame but whatever
I get both the divine skins and the void skin cuz i preordered the collectors edition
I just hope it arrives in time.
I don't wanna torture myself bcs its late

FORTY SEVEN DAYS UNTIL DOOM THE DARK AGES
Mhm, im so excited
Be careful, don't wanna get y'all done for spamming
Why was I pinged here
Idk š

45 days.
Any new type of deamons in Dark Ages?
Not really as far as seen
That's not good
Agaddon Hunters tho
And Titans
Am I the only one who thinks Mancubus seems really weak in TDA
I hope story and game progression will be different than before
Cutscenes
Proper cutscenes
Like if you want to know about cutscenes just watch the Xbox developer direct š
in ancient gods 2 were pretty good and beautiful looking
I want more lore based cutscenes, to clear this mess up
Because lowkey the doom lore is a hot mess and genuinely written horribly
I still love it, but fuck me.
It's a mess.
I just hope that the game makes the changes I think are being implemented
I seriously don't want a repeat of the other NuDoom games in terms of resource management
Yup, it's pretty hard to continue off TAG 2, given the slayer is no longer special anymore
and especially glory kills
Could do a game set inside of a dream or inside of the Doomslayers head, fighting his "inner demons"
The description of TAG 2 even says āthe epic ending to the Slayerās story bla bla blaā more or less in that direction
Like classic doom is special because it was more of survival, than anything else, what does the slayer have to survive? The demons aren't even able to go outside hell, and why stir shit inside hell?
Postal brain damaged but it's doom themed of a already eternal inspired game
Didn't he get put into that tomb at the end in case he needed to be woken up for something? There's probably gonna be something worse than the demons he's gonna have to deal with in the future. However if he's lost his powers then idk what he would really do
No
Anything worse is like the maykrs, a dying and unsustainable species š
DOOM writers were cooking but as soon as the food started to burn they closed the grill entirely. The heck are they gonna do to continue from a cliffhanger that doesn't really have an opening on the opposite side
for me Marauders were most anoying. Specialy with that stupid dogs they release
The something worse has been implied in Eternal and if Hugo's words are anything to go by we will be treading the lovecraftian territory
They're doing anything to not give us a new Quake š
Eh, I presumed it was the maykrs, given their design inspiration
Looking at the doom wiki it says that the maykrs put him into the tomb until he's needed again, is there something I'm missing here?
if it'll be more simillar to classic doom game would be epic
And a very gentle reminder, Hugo's words aren't really reliable
yeah bro. New Quake is most needed at this point
Very subject to change and retcon because of the fact its not approved by the writing team
Imagine Quake meets Doom š
DOOM Eternal TAG 2 is the epic ending to the story of the DOOM Slayer. (Source: Steam - DOOM Eternal The Ancient Gods Part 2)
Maykrs are definitely on board with that, but I'm more so talking about implications of beings beyond Davoth, the mysterious voice remains mysterious
it would be and epic game
Oh. that. yeah hot tip, don't trust what Hugo says, he's dumber than shit when it comes to the things on stream. It's not approved by the writing team, so take it with a grain of salt. he did say that part on stream yeah?
Their subtitles call them āAncient godsā
What's the point of having him just go into a coma, if it was gonna be the end of his story then why not just have him die when his connection got severed. Makes no sense. They're keeping him in their back pocket for a future sequel.
We know that he might not ever be needed again
No it's pretty clear they're not gonna go past TAG, It's a good ending. It doesn't need more.
The DLC was rushed
Like being realistic here, if they wanted to kill him off it could not be done in the time they had
I'm expecting them to go past TAG
You don't just build up a protagonist for most of the franchise then kill him off suddenly, there has to be build-up, build-up they could not do in the circumstances they had
I'm saying that him going into a coma might just about be a safer replacement for killing him off
Genuinely I think it would be a stupid idea to go past TAG
Slayer suvrived for more than 30 years now. Mybe it's time for retirement plan š
Get him some damn therapy at the very least
Quake is right there but we only got excellent remasters and official expansions
His therapy is sleep.
some xanax and a bottle of steroids and he's like new š
Fuck it get that man a blunt
š
Do not give that man prescription drugs.
Samuel would steal em.
Human hayden was a fucking mad cokehead and idc what other folk say
