#the-dark-ages

I hope there's a chance to get a edition of this game with a helmet....wish I got the eternal one.
is the dark ages out yet
wheres that new trailer bethesda..
Are they supposed to be putting one out lol
they showed stuff off screen at quakecon
so they most definetly have the content to
It sounds like it's still in pre alpha so they must not feel that it's ready
Yeah I heard that footage was for con attendees only as a special treat
We’ll see stuff closer to the end of the year I’m sure
But usually there is a gap between announcement trailers and gameplay trailers
I want to see more too, but the best thing is to let Id cook
Soon is relative
To what
All time
Whoa
source
Source or gtfo
so in other words, your just a salty lowlife who makes up shit all day
good to know.
And still refuses to provide any source to backup his claims.

post in in #screenshots then
It's not worth any attention tbh
Y'know some weird ppl are definitely going to make up some stuff about popular games just for it
there is no alpha build
no
since we don't have any context
they were just talking shit for sake of talking shit without providing any source at all to backup any of theit shit claims
laaame
jup
there are so much other cooler things you can make up without a source to talk about
example: doom the dark ages will have a slough of despair remake
Or: Doom the dark ages will have gender customization so you can play as female doomslayer
that would be neat
I don't see it happening because at this point they've already planted the doom slayer as a defined character
but I wouldn't mind it, and it would be neat
The word "guy" is literally in his name, the DoomGUY
Sorry to spoil the fun but I think they said that they're going to be focusing on the story more here
I don't think we'll see any character customisation in a game with lots of lore implications
Yeah thats why I just made that up without a source, like one could read from the context of this chat
Doom guy was coined by fans
His name is not doom guy, even in the new games
His actual first name in any game was Doom
So it was literally Doomguy without the guy
Besides that, if you want to get nitty gritty about the old games they frequently refer to him in the second person
That’s a quake 3 thing
It was kept up until 2010, even 2015 if you wanna count QL's full release; I'd call it a bit recent
Oh I get what you meant now
I’d say the doom marine, in the classic games is a player stand in, they can be whoever you want
Because the identity of the marine is not relevant at all to those games
That's pretty much what he was created as too, and it's also why they may have not wanted to give him a proper name for a while even after Romero left
Now in the modern titles, the doom slayer is a character that has a backstory that is relevant to the story
Which is why I can’t really 100 percent get into the idea that the doom slayer is the original marine, even if that is canonically true
To me the og marine is a stand in, you are the marine
The slayer has a personality and actions the player does not control
I had a concept idea recently for what if Quake III was canon to DOOM and the marine just conquered Arena Eternal there, it'd make for a neat spin-off where he battles hordes of demons from alternate dimensions and it'd technically be DOOM Eternal before Eternal
And history with characters before the player plays as them
Anyway, in the end it doesn’t really matter I suppose lol
I’m completely okay with the new games defining the slayer as a character, but I also think there’s room for other potential protagonists, perhaps with gender customization options
I don’t think the doom marine always has to be a man necessarily, after all, the UAC is an equal opportunity employer
Yeah let toasters have a chance to shine
True but the dark ages takes place in a medieval setting in argent d nur, a very important location in doom lore, that's where the legend of the legendary slayer was born, where he got his powers and was crowned king of the knight sentinels. I just think that there's too much lore here for them to consider. It would make sense for another doom game, but not here
Especially if they continue the story right after doom 64 where the argenta find the slayer wounded from his battles in hell and show him climbing their ranks
It'd be cool yes and plausible but this game in particular seems too lore relevant for anything like that
Character customisation that goes beyond just fancy armour and changes the face, gender and other characteristics that make up the identity of the character could fit better in a game that's more like 2016 or the original games, eternal and the dark ages focus too much on the story for them to be able to do that
If they end up making another game that focuses less on the story but mostly the slayer himself it would most likely be a good idea to add that type of customisation but here I'd just be out of place
Will combat shotty be leaver actiob
What are your guys's favorite demon designs is DA?
I’m ngl I haven’t watched the trailer yet
AGGADON HUNTER!!!
revenant
it looks so gothic i dig it
Haven’t seen much for the demons but uh
Probably revenant
I like caco. Reminds me a lot of 2016's cacodemon with that soulless eye.
Right, I agree with that because these games are so story driven, at least more than the classic games they can’t really do that. I said that in the other parts of the message.
Anyone want to play
One that no one has seen yet
I can't wait for doom the dark ages to come out, I'm so getting that game for my ps5.
🧀
You're hyping me up and I can't tell wether or not I love it or hate that I'm unable to see it yet.
I hope we see a medieval whiplash, that would be dope
OOH! Ye but whiplashes in DE are kinda nuisances. However, design is peak.
I think they’re a good demon in terms of being a chess piece
I feel like we might have some 2016 or 64 demons returning considering it takes place between the two.
Hmmm I don’t recall any demons in either that aren’t in eternal
Besides the nightmare imp
But that doesn’t really count as a new demon
Eternal has every demon that’s appeared in doom
I'd love to see the summoner and pain elemental.
Actually there are some doom 3 monsters not in eternal
Now that I think about it
Summoner isn’t in doom eternal either, well they kinda are as the spirits
But the summoner always felt like an archvile replacement
Summoner is a weaker archie.
In 2016 it takes 3 direct rocket launcher hits to it to stagger it. While with the Archie, it takes 6 direct hits to fully kill it.
The archvile kind of makes it redundant
So it makes sense they removed the summoner
I feel like it would make sense to have some form of the summoner considering we have demonic evolution lore and such.
Said version evolving into the summoner.
Idk it doesn’t really make sense to have 2 demons that serve the exact same purpose
Summoner feels like such a pain tho it moves so much
Because The Dark Ages covers the time when the Slayer was with the Sentinels
What other part of the doom lore is there that has potential to be a prequel game?
i wonder if we're gonna have co-op.. like sentinels and slayer fighting together
Given that the previous entries DON'T have it... I wouldn't hold my breath
honestly I would prefer co op over deathmatch
I can only hope it'll feature master levels, and hopefully more than eternal!
Id rather want them to focus on campaign expansions if we are getting any
2016 has co-op
Just not co-op of the actual campaign
we probably will
but it'd be nice to get both
master levels doesn't take resources away from dlc I think, they're a lot easier and faster to make for the developers
What are you guys’ hopes for Dark Ages? I’m really hoping they add traditional deathmatch again. Eternal’s battle mode is great and extremely unique, but classic slayer vs slayer action is still fun.
a proper co op mode
i hope the mecha/dragon sections don't feel forced in detractions of the actual gameplay i want (the FPS)
i also hope they'll kind of have eternal's general idea of "having to earn the fantasy" instead of 2016 which waas really easy
the first 3 levels of 2016 are hard lol
which is also the buildup to the endgame which is more important imo
I hope they still give us the feeling of the Slayer being OP, I mean he's obviously not got as advanced armor as he did in 2016 and Eternal chronologically in their world, but in our world, since this game's coming out after 2016 and Eternal, we'll still expect the Slayer to feel like he's on a cocktail steroids and acid.
Yeah, I'm not crazy about the idea of having a slower experience, unless it's in another survivor/action horror game, I just hope they can execute it well. I'm junda thinking it'll be mostly like 2016's movement, minus the platforming, and of course without Eternal's dash.
"mostly like 2016's movement"
aka literally nothing interesting lol, which is a shame
the arena's in DA so far looked incredibly flat too, i hope they didn't just cut out an entire dimension of movement from the game
I mean they say it'll be slower like a tank which makes sense in terms of the lore, since he's got a less developed version of the Praetor Suit back then, however in real time chronology, obviously the fans want to see something that makes the previous game's Slayer look like a kitten compared with a lion.
I completely agree here, I can't understand why people seem to want the mecha fights so bad and why it's even interesting to have everything handed to you
you can have the game be more tanklike and still maintain the in depth movement systems
those people care more about set pieces then actual gameplay, that's why they want the mecha fight
I think it's just interesting to have diverse styles of gameplay in one game, like there's also the dragon, and in the previous two games, there were times when we could play as demons etc.
I doubt its 2016's movement.
We'll see what they'll do
I just hope they don't keep the ammo as limiting as Eternal
The ammo cap in eternal makes sense, but it felt too strict imo
for a lot of reasons, I mean, look at the gameplay we have so far. its going to be something completely new
I mean in terms of speed, since he didn't have the dash function back then.
the problem is is that if you have more diverse playstyles, that means you just dilute the quality and focus you can put on any one playstyle
most games with multiple "playstyle" sections have most of the sections feel like shit to play and you prefer just getting the actual game
not everything has to be faux esports
One way you could make it work is encourage the player to practice and master all the play styles based on given encounters
doom the dark ages is described as cinematic too, so enjoy that 🙂
speed is purely relativistic so walking speed kinda doesn't matter
Eternal will always be there for you
I mean I'm guessing that this game will be bigger than the previous two, so short sequences of varied gameplay shouldn't hurt the flow too much.
or you put in all that effort to make 1 playstyle absolutely perfect*
Relativistic to what? I do very little walking while playing Doom, personally.
why make 2 mediocre and 1 decent gameplay sections if you can instead have 1 excellent gameplay section
the size of the levels and projectile speeds
imagine if they announce Dark Ages being open world
i'd probably get DA on sale somewhere then and be extremely wary about the product
I hear you, but I'd hope that with new demons, we'll nonetheless have new challenges.
kinda sounds like you're being negative for no reason
you're assuming these other sections will be mediocre
Yeah, there's no point in catastophising, I'm purely optimistic for the release personally.
I have a lot of faith in id.
yes because of gaming trends everywhere and just the basic understanding that effort is a resource you can allocate, and by allocating it in other gameplay sections you spent less effort in the main gameplay
I personally trust id
because Dark Ages feels like it'll be a mix between 2016's action packed power fantasy and Eternal's lore focused approach
maybe their effort is going into the experience as a whole.
and for pacing or variety reasons they believe these sections are necessary
eternal also was an action packed power fantasy, a better one then 2016 i'd say
if they somehow make them actually decent and not feel like every single other game's disruption of the flow, including eternal with the revenant section, then sure
Yeah they seemed to get the formula right in the last two games, and I don't remember them receiving much negative criticism, but then I probably wouldn't have paid much attention to the critics anyway.
I think id is not particularly interested in making the same game twice
which even without the sections of different gameplay they wouldn't be doing
i mean sure, we could just not theorize at all but then we wouldn't have a discussion either
I'm pretty happy this is pretty much nothing like eternal
that is just about the furthest I think you could go with that style before it becomes very niche
I adore Eternal for the record
it is like a top 10 game ever for me
niche isn't bad, infact i'd say it's the opposite: niche makes a game better
AAA games don't tend to be too niche, doom eternal was really pushing it I'd say
and it's great to have exceptions
okay, I don't think you understand what I'm saying here
the broad mass appeal is exactly what makes so many AAA games just mediocre as hell
what I'm saying is there is a certain point that I really don't see id pushing past, doom eternal is very niche for a AAA game
I am not saying niche is bad
I'm just saying that doom eternal was already an envelope pusher and goes pretty far (too far for some)
into the direction it carves out, like I said, one of my personal favorite games, but I can't see where they can go from there with the same formula
alright, too bad for them? A game being niche is only a plusside imo
it's bad if you're a stakeholder who needs giant blockbusters year after year, but honestly MS doesn't even need that any more
well clearly the decision has already been made to revamp the gameplay
they have gotten so big that i think producing more niche games is probably an overall boost to their gaming strategy
esp since DA will be on gamepass day 1 so like
I mean, I bet Dark Ages will still have the air tight game design of eternal (most of it anyway)
just a different style
well we don't really know, they could 100% have walked away from taht
it was described as streamlined and cinematic, so I'm kind of interested in what that means in this context
especially if they now have to potentially have to do quality control on 3 different gameplay sections instead of just 1 really
I'm scared there'll be little depth to the combat, and that it'll appeal to casual players too much
2016 and Eternal weren't the same game, but they still managed to nail the formula for each game individually twice, is what I'm implying.
I think while eternal started as more 2016, it eventually became a different beast
more a juggling act
I think 2016 and eternal are pretty different experiences
I think the DA combat will come with its own challenges for the player.
yeah or it will have "impractical depth"
where sure you can do a lot, but a lot of those things are just blatantly less effective then other things (the issue with most broad games that try to market themselves as having a variety of game styles)
I don't even remember what pre release doom eternal conversation was like
I remember it mostly being people thinking it was more of the same
Kinda like with Eternal's mods
You can use different mods, but some are just way worse
and people were down with that
but then it came out and it was a bit more than more of the same and I think some people weren't as into that
exactly like eternal's mods, i thought about them
So does the Archie. Both of them are easy to take care of if you know what you're doing.
a game can be in rought outlines "more of the same" but still have made improvements on a lot of things
Yea, exactly would've been a better word to use lol
nah I think eternal fundamentally changes what you're doing moment to moment because of the focus on resource management
The archie is a larger target and it feels like it stays still longer
eternal is way more than more of the same
i'm not saying eternal is more of the same of 2016
ah ok
i'm saying that the general ideas for eternal could still be held up whilst improving in ever place and thus making still a radically different game
I love the Summoner, I love the swift sleek movement for me to track, I only wish he'd been in Eternal in that form. They could've buffed, possessed, empowered or even spectralised him to add an additional challenge.
eternal's resource management for example is extremely simplistic and having more depth there would already change the game
If you set your priorities straight, it should be easy taking care of him.
if it was more complex I think I would not be able to keep up with the speed
Yes, precisely this
Play on a lower difficulty then so you don't have to engage as much with the game's machnics then
Yeah, Archvile doesn't move around as much, he dashes from time to time, but generally stays on one spot with his firewall which you can literally sidestep around and shoot him until he dies.
what? this theoretical game that isn't real?
that we already know isn't happening
I was just adding onto what you said
I mean there's no harm in starting on a lower difficulty during your first play through.
An easy way to kill him is freeze him and use the lock on rocket mod twice on him.
I played both 2016 and Eternal on UV at first
Or just crucible.
I mean he's pretty much an easy opponent, I don't even need the ice grenades.
i mean optimally the resource management would be integrated with other mechanics like the weapon mod system, not an entirely detached system
So you would do it at the same time as your other gameplay
what other sort of resource could they have?
so you need to use certain mods to get certain resources?
it's an idea yeah
idk how I feel about that lol
But he can just teleport.
though it's not 1 mod only can get 1 resource that would be stupid
I already kinda hate that certain monsters require you to use certain mods
like, in the dlc
the base game is actually VERY good about this generally
Nowadays I use the Unmaykr, but prior to that, the chaigun was my main.
it's imo atleast conceptually better then the boring 20 second cooldown reload button
Hmm.
He really doesn't do that very often, especially if he's being engaged.
but it will be more along the idea that if you use stickies or PB to destroy a weakpoint, you get ammo back
Things like that
the base game never demands you to use certain weapons (no matter what people will say, there is an optimal path but it isn't required)
He does if you attack him and fail to finish him off.
Then don't fail. It only takes a few seconds, just be careful of his kicks.
Yes, in Eternal weak point destruction is pointless, there is so much you can add onto and change to make a new game!
it'll still not force you to use certain weapon mods, and hell likely wouldn't be the only way to get ammo either!
that could work but what if you run out of ammo
in eternal they have makyr drones, which are filled with ammo
She didn't say it would be the only way to get ammo
Mhm.
But I still use freeze bomb because that makes it easier.
if you get completely dry there is always the ammo on the floors, and hell maybe have the ammo-chainsaw be a last ditch attack if you're dry
Maykr drones are generally quite boring
I'd rather use it on the empowered enemies, to hold them off while I burn the Archvile.
Freezing the archvile is a good decision
Otherwise I would falter him with damage and then a grenade
They are. But on nightmare they're angels as portrayed.
headshotting a drone is more engaging than pressing C on an imp
i mean that is pretty much what i suggested no
the numbers of the makyr drone would be nerfed though but that is self explanatory
Neither is that good, Eternal barely had any ammo management, which is sad
Maykr drones are boring because they just make you invincible
well, sorry, god gamers I thought it was pretty tough 😭
But they're still life savers on nightmare and ultra nightmare.
Yes, but does it mean that it's good?
eternal only had ammo management for people uninformed fully automatic weapons suck and a tedious animation for everyone else
It's good when you're close to death.
eh I think on release people did not understand the kind of game eternal was
Having god mode on all the time would be a life saver, but it wouldn't be fun
bet you could find a mod for that
You're correct. But dying permanently would be WAYYY less fun.
or maybe soon
I'm too young to die.
I'm talking about ultra nightmare.
i mean simply lowering the number only does so much
you need engaging mechanics to gain back the resources which eternal solemnly lacks
and that maykr drones are life savers in that difficulty setting.
Yes, what I hope to do is find a mod that heavily reduces chainsaw animation time and then also one which reduces max ammo count and the amount of ammo you get from chainsawing
simply having less ammo just means you sit around with no ammo more or you're chainsawing more
Both of these are kinda unengaging ways to go about it
It would reduce the total time chainsawing but increase emphasis on actual ammo management
yeah kinda makes me think I would just be using the chainsaw more
You don't want it so you have to sit around and wait ofc, just so you have to manage ammo and switch between ammo types
Ultra nightmare is psychological torture. Making it to Urdak on that setting turns it into ultra dream.
which you already do if you're out of ammo anyways
for every second you're out of ammo you should lose 10 health
real
enforced ammo management system
Seems painful.
the idea of being unable to kill demons is physically painful to the slayer
Being out of ammo in Eternal is almost an accomplishement
We already have the standing still thing in the game.
it would be funny if standing still literally killed you
like, a timer appears on your screen if you let go of the movement keys
if you lower the numbers it'll just be a more common thing and you're not actually adding in an interesting ammo system for it in place
It's obviosuly not the best way to go about it, I'm just talking about what I want to do with Eternal's already existing systems
Until he goes into berserk mode.
I think weakpoints dropping ammo is a good idea! but it makes you wonder what you would do without any ammo, which is probably the scenario in which you need ammo the most. If you only are allowed to use the chainsaw then, its a contextual thing instead of a mechanic you can use regardless, which I think will be weird, I imagine the player asking "why can't I always use the chainsaw?"
and will feel a little sloppy
doesn't have to be the only way either
I imagine the player asking "why can't I always use the chainsaw?"
gameplay limitations to make you play a specific way
This won't be good if someone uses their last bit of ammo to kill the last demon in the arena.
if, every time you hit a weak point you get ammo, then ammo will be plentiful and you're not rewarding ammo conservation but rather, how frequently you can hit shots, and if its anything like it is in eternal already, you will be hitting these shots constantly
then the fail state for having no ammo, is having an easier way to get ammo?
they could reimplement a weapon hierarchy, I suppose, and have different actions associated with different ammo types
for example, weak points could get you shotgun shells
chainsaw could get you bullets
...something else could get you plasma ammo
I think that would be a good solution, since bullets would fill your machine gun, which will allow you to get weakpoints
this will inherently make certain weapons more valuable
and thus have to be balanced accordingly
but yeah, that would be neat, idk what the thing that get's you plasma ammo could be
small addition would be that the specific action would give you more of the primary weapon type, not only
That way you still get a bit of ammo for the "wrong" actions
sure
but there would have to be a more defined hierarchy where clearly the plasma weapons are more useful than the shotguns, which are more useful than the automatic guns
I mean, already the ballista chews through ammo because its so powerful
though, would doom fans accept an SSG that is not ridiculously powerful?
hold on…
why are we talking about doom eternal in the dark ages channel? #doom-eternal
why not
Because this is supposed to be a channel where we discuss dark ages and not any other doom game. If we do want to talk about them, we must go to their respective channels.
not much to talk about yet haha
though, this does bring up something I remember being mentioned by a quakecon goer
the idea that basically the melee weapon you use for the new "glory kill" system determines what resources you get?
could be completely wrong but I think I heard that, which is interesting, I assume mixing and matching will be possible
Correct.
interesting idea, I guess you have to consider what you're out of before you start a combo
and you could optimize your resource gathering like that
depends on how the weapons work, if they're all infinite use themselves you just split the chainsaw in four which ehhh
and I think I read also that you can just stop doing a "glory kill" since it isn't an animation
its not invincible from what I read
so its not just an animation, basically you have to actually attack to gather the resource is how I'm thinking it works
and you can leave demons be after hitting them once or twice
it isn't a thing you get locked into I think
(this could alllll be wrong)
so its not a glory kill, but it is the system that is replacing them
so gathering resources has a risk factor, since you can be hurt while doing it
and have to get close to a demon, who, since this game is upping the ai on screen, might be surrounded by hordes
also, the chain lightning punch was mentioned
perhaps this is an ability that allows you to shock a horde so you can more safely move in for resource gathering?
fun to theorize about
really liking this idea
but how do you get chain lighting punches...
Have you guys ever seen Midnight hanging aroundhere at some point
too much to really even theorize about honestly
it makes sense though right, chain lightning being used to stun a horde
i think i saw him once or twice
some people just pop in chat sometimes
He's the best doom content creator hands down
Is the bean sprout here?
Or that pigeon idk
.... no
idk
I agree to disagree
he was banned from here
Really? What for?
hmmmp was also banned like 3 times
The pigeon YouTuber?
don't really remember
Weird
but he said something to someone
I bet
Midnight was in here two days ago.
Drat I missed it
Decino:
He doesn't have the same pfp like his YouTube right
He's got his irl pic am I right
Yea
m1:
loll, i appreciate the support🙌
I hope it accelerates the stuff you get a lot faster then in eternal, first level most fundamental tools should be given out
I want it to start out a few years after he chose the path of perpetual torment, before he ends up in argent d'nur.
So what, right after doom 64 then?
I'd guess the scene where he's launched from the maykr ship is part of the intro. It's the only thing that makes sense to me
I think doing a small prologue about the battle of taras nabad would make sense
I think the beginning should be a small cutscene of him fighting through hell, and then answers the question of what happened to him before he ended up in argent d'nur.
What else is there to show about the battle of taras nabad?
Real
I hope we get to see more of inside the buildings and castles in sentinel prime and Taras nabad
Like more dungeon areas

10 minute nothingburger clickbait videos:
Shut up he makes good content >:3
I'm actually looking forward to seeing how sentinels interacted with each other during that time. We saw only a glimpse in eternal and I think it'd be super dope if they expanded on that
WE NEED ULTRA GREATSWORD LADS
That would be pretty cool too
I hope we'll get to kill the first titan that arrived at Taras nabad
It would be really cool to see it play out or have it as gameplay
Yeah….. he said he’d stop, then didn’t, then I stopped watching
YEAH
Who? I'd like to know to find my opinion on this
Midnight
I like midnight
I like him as a person and content creator, but his trend of clickbait is just soooo annoying to me
It’s gotten really bad recently
Yeah tbat make sense
I wish he’d make more varied content
His video titles are SOOO cringey too
Yeah
Especially the ones about creepy Doom wads
"MOST DISTURBING AND SCARIEST AND TRAUMATIZING DOOM MODS EVER"
"the most mind boggling doom mod"
Bro literally recycles that shit for the 999th times
and its just a map where an npc chases you around that instakills you on contact
Most of these wads abuse that, yes
It's so unoriginal
And it gets ineffective real quick
myhouse.wad manages to be creepy and have a lasting impact on the player despite having literally zero jumpscares
Hopefully it aint as bad as the icon of sin
That sucked
I feel like it wouldn't be like that
Like you'd have to climb up it and and shoot/stab/kick/use fail until you can stab it with the crucible
I hope we'll be able to use it more instead of 3 charges
"THE TRUTH BEHIND (topic goes here)" and it's all wild goose chases based on stuff we already know
You want the game to give you the crucible only to immediately take it away?
Always has been.
I mean his content before and a bit after Doom Eternal was released actually had my interest
After that he went full-on milking mode
he's grinding 💯
Didn't think about that. I'm kind of not smart
When do y’all think another gameplay showcase will be shown to the public I know they had behind closed doors gameplay at quakecon but I need more
Could be a while but no one knows for sure
id say 9 months from now
its set for 2025, probably late 2025
I'm hoping it would be around the end of this year
Second trailer for 31 anniversary or game awards?
if not then nothing until SGF, 9 months from now
Sorry, but what is SGF?
summer games fest
basically every game show that happened between warhammer skulls to the nintendo direct, inclusing state of play, the SGF main show, PC gamer showcase, and the Xbox showcase
its where dark ages was announced
yes, beginning of june
same thing happened from quakecon 2018 to SGF 2019, nothing from eternal was shown in that 10 month span of time
so I assume it will happen again, unless they surprise us with a trailer
Hi chat

I do think there is a difference. After all that first eternal trailer was only animated and already dropped 2 years after doom 2016 released. So I think that was more of a "now in production" trailer. They simply did not have any gameplay ready to show for that period. The dark ages development seems much further in development, since they already showed gameplay
Yeah if they can squeeze out all the time they can they could release it between january-february
of 2025
Woah there hold your horses, I think we might get another trailer at that point, doubt the full game releases in the first half of 2025
Hmmm we'll have to find out
But persuade me and tell me why you think that?
Thats what modern triple a gaming has taught us over the years
Eternal only launched in March cause it got delayed. They intended to drop it in November
no way
the marketing would be in full swing by now
if we were 4-5 months out from release, we would know way more about it, more interviews, more gameplay
also: if it were coming out that early in 2025 then they would 100 percent have a concrete date
I'd say its gonna be Q3 or Q4 of 2025
I would be very surprised if it came out in the first half of the year
is this game like a prequel or something
oh, is it like the events you see in eternal?
Idfk
lol
I’m gonna guess it’s a bit after that since the slayer is a super weapon
Or maybe that will be the beginning of the game idk
Understandable
The dark ages are going to be a prequal and a sequel to doom 2016
What
Prequel yes, but how is it gonna be a sequel
(I haven't read this channel in a while so maybe I missed something)
game awards or the january xbox direct. If not then, we will all be sad.
we had 15+ min of gameplay for 2016 and Eternal. Not getting that for TDA would be a travesty
Guys we will get another trailer don't worry
The game releases in 2025 after all
And the first trailer they showed is numbered
Any of you guys think the upgrade system is gonna be the same as 2016 and eternal or something completely different?
Are you going to elaborate on that or just spew random bs and leave
I wouldn't mind if it stayed the same tbh
yes new trailer, and a launch trailer too, but i think most of us really want a long gameplay video. it gives us lots to talk about as fans pick apart every little bit.
Bring back SnapMap
Hopefully more fleshed out and polished this time
Lemme snap my map
No snapmap that was limited. Official mod tools like ID studio are much better.
They probably believe that it will explain what happened between doom 2016 and doom eternal
Which would be kinda weird imo
Seems like it's gonna be between the events of Taras Nabad and the Argenta Civil war
I'm not gonna like the logo for tda looks strange
The doom logo part looks fine but the bit that says "the dark ages" seems off
It's off-center a bit I think
looks fine to me
just looked at it in photoshop, it is almost perfectly centered, its like 1 or 2 pixels off
doom fans when the ui is 1 pixel off
There is no info on multiplayer available?
not as far as I know
This was never about the UI though
Going off the server banner, it is definitely visibly off-centered to me
it is roughly 26 pixels both ways.
I would send a screenshot if I could
ohhh you mean the "the" I was talking about the dark ages part
Yeah, it's a bit off-center to the middle of the DOOM logo
though,
looking at it, the H is off center but the entirety of the "the" is centered
So in the end, it IS off-center
welllll I meannnnnn I suppose its more of a spacing and inconsistent letter size thing
but yeah
Whatever it is, it's faulty in one way or another
its one pixel off from the look of it lol
Still noticeable enough to have been bugging me for a while
this is how you know we need some news when it comes to this game 💀
Yeah it would be, maybe that could work for maybe a dlc but in order to do that you have to completely rebuild the players arsenal
I could see a future game taking place between 2016 and eternal
there's a lot of ???? that happens between the two games
when we pick up with the slayer he already has a space castle and got out of hell somehow
perfect spot for a future entry
Remember that Eternal was delayed from November 2019 to March 2020? The later we get a real time gameplay video, the further away will be the release date
you know someone at Id feeding you this info?
Look at the industry expert knowing exactly how causation and correlation works
I am from germany dude
So am i.
Und was willst du mir jetzt damit sagen?
Just because i missed my favorite cartoon, cause i shat my pants as a baby, doesnt mean i always missed my favorite cartoon, everytime i shat my pants.
Macht immer noch keinen Sinn
Keep it english only here.

Flash before my eyes~ now it's time to die~
Ride The Lightning lol
Ladno
want a better look at the pinky design from dark ages
so far the demons in dark ages look less crab like
What cartoon?
@misty beacon did you invert your username?
🫵🤨👍
This guy seems great.
everything could be explained with a single level or codex entry
I think we should have the option to get women in the game
Helltaker Eternal
OMFG
Doomtaker? Proof?
My source is that I made it the fuck up

The absolute brainrot of some people
Just pulling random shit out their ass
In a nutshell (as a video)
🟦; What a compelling argument... /s
I am sure that even the tip of a needle would be far too large to try and accommodate all the brain cells that person must have.
I dont even know where all those salty people come from recently?
Like, honestly...
I have yet to play Eternal; started with the very first classic DOOM and moved up to DOOM 2016; currently working on that and having a blast, nothing really bad to say about the games I've played so far probably thanks to my lovely rose-tinted glasses /lh
I absolutely love that you started with the first games
You should never expect anything better than this from the steam forums
It is like if you dedicated an entire forum to YouTube commenters

I've checked it out a few times, and every single time it's just as brainrotty
Even if it was true, doom 2016 has been out for about 4 more years than eternal so I don’t even see why it would matter
Resident Evil 2 Remake has sold more than Resident Evil 4 Remake and I don’t think 4 was a failure even remotely
Also the idea of “this game was a failure so Id should not even try to make another doom” is really funny

Where do they get this information from??
from where the sun never shines
Keep it dtda only here
Did ya do 64 between 2 and 2016?
Yep! A friend who got me into Doom told me the correct "order" of the games regarding the storyline.
Did you do D3?
D3 is an offshoot
Can be done whenever tbh as I dont think it has impact on main storyline
Doom 3's still a mainline game. I'd highly recommend it.
It may not have impact on the "main storyline" but it had significant impact on Doom's development as a franchise. 2016 rips off a lot from it.
Had 3 not existed, 2016 wouldn't either.
Seconded
Great game
even if its the bfg edition but that was my only option so
For the development history yes, but we were going based on the lore
I never once said that it was not a mainline game or that it was not a good game
It's a bit of an offshoot lore wise
That's why it can be played whenever in your lineup
BFG isn't bad
Im noticing its influence quite a bit in my new playthrough of 2016
Like it has some horror elements but its minor, isolated atmosphere, etc
I don't plan on skipping Doom 3 at all whatsoever; mainly just playing in order of the general storyline 😁
Which you see as where?
The modern doom games take a lot from doom 3 regarding art style, specifically how the UAC is portrayed
I don’t think it’s relevant to the current doom story line but you never know, doom the dark ages might pull it in
They should take influence from doom 3s shotgun that everyone loved
I would need to look more into the lore before making a proper assessment as to where; I may play it either before or after Doom Eternal 🤔
I like it
The doom 3 shotgun looks cool, at least lol
I’d prefer if they made it more useful but gave you less ammo
Bfg edition be like:
In survival horror games, specifically Resident Evil, the shotgun still rocks, so I don’t really see why they made it so inconsistent in doom 3
The shotgun in RE7 and 8 for example, is awesome
Well D3 isn't really survival horror
It at least takes a lot of influence from survival horror
I like it. It makes me use my whole arsenal more, and it's satisfying to kill with
I only had one enemy I couldn't reach with it
It’s not too bad to play whack an imp with lol
And luckily that is what roughly 30 percent of all combat in doom 3 is
The chaingun and plasma gun are the mvps of doom 3
Doom 3’s lore actually still has quite a few implications seen in DOOM 2016 and DOOM Eternal. I mean the Hell Knights in both games are the ones from 3, the Maledict was a Dark Lord of his era
Theres also the peashooter aka machine gun
Plus the multiverse and that stuff alongside Doom 3’s demons living in regions of Hell we don’t go to in 2016 and Eternal
Does DOOM 3 not deserve the all-caps treatment?
Yeah, it is always all-caps
Also doom 3 references a hero similar to the slayer
In the mars people’s murals and stuff
I have not said it didn't have any impact, it is an offshoot as it is not canonically in the main lore. If anything ya, it's likely a multiversal aspect
Because Hell touches all realms around it
Yeah it’s not currently relevant, but it is worth a play sometime in the future for sure! Play how and when you want tho
Everyone took offense to me saying D3 was an offshoot
In the context I said it is an offshoot lore-wise
I don’t think anyone is offended, I think personally you should play what you want you don’t have to play doom 3
Nobody got offended lel
I mean lore-wise doom can be played by release date
Play doom 3
Aw come on
The spider drones are awesome
They need to bring those back in nu doom
But does it have Steve Blum?
Every id Tech 4 game is amazing
I think doom 3 is the peak personally but they’re all pretty cool
Cute little guys
Quake 4 is cool
Classic doom is my favorite game, collectively
Do you mean wolfenstein 2009?
Oh RTCW is id3
So is call of duty haha
LOL
Sorry guys, forgot to mention. Wolf2 is short for Wolfenstein 2009. It's called this in the game files and by fans
Huh, interesting
Never played 09, it’s unavailable for purchase 😦
I wanna play Wolf 2009 one day
Physical
aftermarket type beat
I ain’t going through that effort, also, no disc drive
disc drive for 20 and wolf09 for 80
I got it for 10
I’m not doing that for a game I know I will think is “alright”
I don't see myself praising RtCW
Really?
Hot take machine!
Personally I think the old blood is the best wolf
It’s like a remake of rtcw but with fun stuff from tno
Bullet spread fucks me over so hard. I got some tips on Reddit but some dickhead told me to shoot better so I got a bit vulgar and nuked my account
💀
Bro took it personally
For context I needed help with bullet spread, not aim
It's a bit shit to respond with something unrelated and word it like it's the most obvious thing ever
Abandonware or something
I was considering this myself but decided not to for the sake of game collecting. But it's amazing it's an option
Eh too inconvenient
lol
Also activision and Id are both under michaelsoft now so maybe they’ll rerelease it at some point
It’s not a game I’m dying to play
Rumors say they are working on relicensing the SM games
SM?
Spidey
Shouldn’t take legal work, Microsoft owns both parties now
I suppose, but it still takes legal work between subsidiaries I swore
Especially since Q4 is up on Steam
Doom 3 is definitely canon and takes place within the Doom lore.
It's just that Doom's canon is a multiverse. Doom 3's UAC is not 2016's UAC, and its Mars is not 2016's Mars.
But 3 still has plenty of info that is relevant to the wider Doom storyline. It features references to the original Doomguy and what he's been up to after 64, it was the game to introduce the Argenta (albeit under a different name), and 2016 borrowed heavily from it when depicting its main antagonist.
Doom 3's Hell is the same Hell as in the other games. It's always the same Hell. Many Earths; one Hell.
in the main lore
Define "main lore."
The mainline lore that has been said in 2016 and eternal
And what has been retroactively done to 64
By this definition Doom 3 is included. 2016 and Eternal retroactively tied the entire series together into one canon. This includes Doom 3, as it is a mainline title that includes canon references to the Slayer.
I guess
What's the D3 equivalent to Argenta?
The Martians.
Oh I thought it was some form of Argent Energy lol
The Martians are pretty important to 3's story, they're the catalyst to the UAC's presence on Mars. Everything described about them fits with the Argenta perfectly.
In that case it's HydroCon.
From the lore guide:
A video disk notes that [HydroCon] is achieved by “splitting iron oxide molecules” using the Elemental Phase Deconstructor, producing both oxygen and hydrogen cheaply and safely without the need for large amounts of electricity. This was developed in response to Earth’s need for both water and fuel.
TLDR: In Doom 3's universe they ran into the same energy crisis problems 2016 describes. They solved it with HydroCon.
Alright, thanks
So it's probably a good idea to go and listen to them. There should be a resource online where you can explore their content. You'll learn a lot about Doom 3's lore.
Does anybody have an idea on what those floating brain things were
I think they might be a species of cacodemon but idk
Those are certainly Cacodemons
I'd want to see more of them in a 2nd gameplay trailer
Wait you're talking about TDA?
Yeah
I'm going insane what else would it be dude
The Grell/Octobrains? I don't know the correct name but they were in the Doom Eternal concept artwork and were unused in the final cut, but made a comeback in TDA.
I saw some of the concept art in @warm ibex 's YouTube video, I think.
I think I remember seeing it now
Yeah, it looked like it was of Maykr design perhaps.

It's not a Cacodemon though.
If it is indeed a maykr enemy I wonder what their doing there
Hot vacation.
Give the brain a chance to unwind.
Yeah I'd probably want to take a vacation from urdak too
shut up vega
Any predictions on the final release date? I'm guessing a summer release, possibly later, but hopefully earlier, though that's less likely.
Yeah my guess is the second half of the year
I feel like if it were earlier than that we’d have a release date by now
Autumn 2025
I'm guessing November or December.
Being blindsided by an earlier release date would be awesome but I don’t see it happening
I would be really surprised by any date before June 2025
Nah it's a pretty straight forward combination of the modern Caco and Doom 3 version, definitely not a Maykr
doom in 2013
Scroll up some
🤬
i wonder if the skull crushing gun has a rhythm like the trailer
Any idea how much its gonna cost?
either 60 or 70 USD
and it's also day 1 on microsoft gamepass which costs 18 euro a month
$12 if you wanna do Game Pass PC
ah i was just looking at the first number i saw
Pretty sure non-Ultimate console tier is also $12
Not if MS increases the price again before it releases
dear lord
What did you want me to look at?
To read about the Eternal Artbook
L, error 404
But it's the same as this one on the 7 second mark though right? https://youtu.be/zQ7nBWCULvA?si=vZLMv0gfioRBBBhC
Doom Eternal's most insane enemies were removed from the game!

Music Used: "Goroth" from Quake Champions by Andrew Hulshult
I definitely see what you mean, but they look very different
It's also worth noting that the Slayer and the Sentinels were on the same side as the Maykrs for a long period of time, so there's a solid chance that we won't be fighting any Maykr enemies in Dark Ages
Yeah, placing them side by side, they are different, I thought it was the same.
Understandable mistake!
Yippee!!!
Good, didn't really enjoy fighting them and also urdak wasn't as cool as the hell maps
Apparently this game is coming out in 2025
do think when it releases it will be a collector edition?
likely
hell yeah
🎃
𝓕𝓻𝓮𝓪𝓴𝔂 Jonkler
But in what month of 2025
Late 2025
I would be surprised if it came out before June
I’m gonna guess we’re a year off from release
im guessing october - november
bethesda has a tendancy to release games around that time
Im hoping that for dark ages, they rework the chainsaw and instead give us more enemies like the maykr drones
I doubt there will be a chainsaw with the shield
The shield IS the chainsaw. Didn't ya see he fired it up and it spins?
Any new updates on the dark ages?
No they are working on the game.
Ok
They seem pretty far or did they just make that trailer separate from the game
Or did they actually make that mych progress
Ok but did you hear about doom year one
Year zero was probably the original title for dark ages
Yeah probably but the dark ages is better
Still in pre alpha apparently
I say its gonna be a awesome kick ass game when it releases.
helllo
Hey Horde Mode Gaming! Just wanted to let you know Im a massive fan and I think you should keep up the good work! Love your content man :3
Thank you very much!
I love your youtube channel
I appreciate that levi
DAWG IS THIS REAL
holy shit it's the dark ages brain orb guy
Probably won't be shared for a long long loooong ass time
Yeah you’re probably right
Still a shame that the DE soundtrack never got an official release
That’s Bethesda for ya.
I just wish we could've heard Bethesda's side of the story. When Mick made that big ass post almost 2 years ago they replied by saying they have full and complete documented evidence to supposedly prove him wrong.... that they just haven't shared. Like I get that it's on an as needed basis, but come on dude. People are looking to you for answers and you're just not gonna debunk a single thing? Maybe I'm looking too deep into it but it just rubs me the wrong way.
As if I'm not still gonna preorder dark ages LOL
what do yall think the replacements for each weapon are gonna be?
Here's my hopes:
Chansaw: Shield
Combat Shotgun: IDK
Super Shotgun: Super Shotgun, but make it fire the same rate as doom 2's ssg, so it can sound like "we will rock you" again
Heavy Cannon: Replace it with a sniper that has optional missile-like things
Chaingun: The skull thingy we saw in the teaser
Plasma Rifle: Something Mideval-like i dont have a good one for this
Ballista/Railgun: Ballista, but add siege mode and get rid of arbalest
Rocket Launcher: Rocket launcher, its already perfect
BFG-9000: BFG(reatsword)
Unmaykr: Unmaykr, but make it more useful
I'M UNSURREEE!!
Hold on.
Yeah seriously.
Idk if this is real.
My uncertainty is larger than my hype for dark ages.
Thats a lie actually.
It was such a weak response from them
I mean i guess anything to keep PR clean and tidy I guess, I don’t think anybody could’ve seen it going better than that, like sure it’s a shitty thing to happen, but it’s redundant to talk about at this point, and it actually is really annoying when I see nothing but “pay mick” spammed on doom social media posts like that’s going to do anything, guy who runs the account is probably some minimum wage intern okay I don’t think he can pay mick, people suck at protest plain and simple
Yeah saying that on the game's official page aint doing anything
that and reviewbombing the game that one time, like Marty Stratton wasn’t the entire developer team alright, we shouldn’t try to paint an entire company as the villain, they’re not a hivemind, besides, people gave up after a week or so anyways
it feels like people get mad at something, and just want to find a way to express their anger for it, but it was not at all productive in this case, and it accomplished nothing
True
Like Mick even said himself not to review bomb, which seems obv
Because lots of people worked hard on the game
and that’s the funniest part, people so eager to jump at bethesdas throat that they didn’t even hear micks story, they just assumed he was in the right from hearing other people say he was and never actually heard his side and are just going on an unguided internet crusade
it’s like that’s why it never accomplished anything because people never knew what they were fighting for they only knew who
I promise you that if it weren’t for the doom music memes and whatever the community likes to regurgitate, people wouldn’t have cared this much at all
when the whole community tries to approach a situation so naively they act kind of zany while doing it, and them appearing so outwardly ignorant kind of makes it easier for Bethesda to just write these people off as looneys and Infact hurts mick gordons cause
That sums it up pretty well actually
Just a bunch of bandwagons
No actual thought put into what went down
like it only got that much publicity because who it was, if it was like somebody like “John Anderson, a major contributor towards the enemy Ai design, was not paid for his work” nobody would give a shit
I bet you there were more employees that were treated like trash
But it doesn't really get talked about as much
Probably
They gotta make that Starfield money back somehow lmao
Lol not as long as they keep running game pass
Like it's so blatantly unsustainable it's ridiculous that they're still pushing it, and dark ages is gonna take a huge revenue hit because it'll be a day one title
I don’t think every weapon is going to have a direct analog.
Skullcrusher seems to be more a pistol
I’m imagining it’s a tool that you will use throughout the game
Pretty much all the weapons have to be designed to be one handed since the slayer has to hold the chain shield
So maybe that’s why it looks kinda like a pistol
Have we gotten a similar profile of any of the other weapons?
Because I kinda think the guns are all smaller than usual
Just to fit into how this game is designed
Might be
Last year at a comic con I had several Eternal weapons in both hands
U can't upload pictures here, right?
Yeah but because of the chain shield everything has to be smaller
Since the slayer can’t use a two handed gun and the shield at the same time
No you can’t
But at the merch showcase
I can upload them there if you are interested
Isn't the slayer lore wise strong enough to kill a titan without the mech? And now he can't hold a bigger gun in on hand
It’s probably a matter of not clogging up the screen with massive view models lol
I would assume making the ssg lever action was also done to make it usable in one hand
If we compare the view model size of the skull crusher and the ssg the skull crusher is actually larger
So I don’t think it’s pistol sized
The shape of a pistol instead of a rifle
@dense gazelle i got u mate

Pretty rad
Yeah looking at it here, I don’t think it’s a pistol so much as a one handed blaster
It’s interesting there are two of them…
Yes
Will this game have akimbo?
Thought this too once
Will we be able to do akimbo ssgs?
But someone said it's for left and right armed people
Yeah because of the chainshield
Same reason there can’t be two handed guns (at least from what we know, which is frankly very little)
They can’t do a doom game without a bfg so I wonder how that will work
Girl who was at quakecon said after talking to Hugo the shield is always there all the time
Good to get confirmation, I assumed that’s how it would be considering it has its own meter
Lavaniel is her name at YouTube
I’ve seen her channel
Maybe you can akimbo when the shield is flying?
Hmmm I feel like that would be kinda weird and complicated
Or cutting into a bigger demon
I think putting a shield into one hand and a gun into the other is a smart design choice, idk if they would muddy it up but who knows
I want to see the slayer using the mace
What's also strange is when he kicks or hits the aggadon hunter in the trailer he isn't really injured from it
Who knows, could just be for show
Speculating is fun but we have so little to go on so far
Sure
I have never been more genuinely exited for a game like the dark ages
As a fan of the medieval ages, I shall declare doom the dark ages thy best hype in existence of god
The subdomain ain't whitelisted the website itself is.
when new gameplay?
Soon i hope
bro did u put ur specs in your user lol
new gameplay either TGA or the next Xbox Direct.
I hope they add the new demons from legacy of rust
I need one of those shields, it'll come in handy during the London protests.
so i must debate. Going to make some baron skins (old HK, normal baron, ogre). Do you think i shoujld make the blood glow green or keep it more dark/med green?
@grim cloud IMO glow green.
okay then
There’s new gameplay?
Doesn’t look like it
If you’re referring to the trailer, I think it’s a bit too early to determine how easy it will be
Especially since the goal of the trailer is more to show off the cool new stuff and the art style than show you what gameplay will actually look like, it’s gussied up kinda like how that original gameplay reveal of 2016 was
They make gameplay slower and usually play on a console for a more cinematic look at least that’s how they did with Eternal im pretty sure
That old Mars Core gameplay video was on a controller im pretty sure
And the old Super Gore Nest video
I think Hugo plays on controller
I know it’s irrational to expect anything more, as it’s not their obligation, but I do find something a bit humorous about a game director being kinda bad at their own game
Usually the devs aren't good at their games
yes I know, that’s why I said it’d be irrational to expect anything more, but I do think it’s a bit silly
Yea, ive always wondered why devs don't play their own games that much, i mean, they designed them how they wanted, it should be very appealing
I mean i know it’s not his job to be good at the game he’s directing but I do think at a certain point it’s a teensy bit silly when the guy takes 3 hours to get halfway through world spear master level
If he was on keyboard he would've done it on UN in 37 min trust
37 minutes is diabolical, my current WS ML UN best time is 42 minutes
if Hugo was on keyboard he could frame ballista with 100% consistency 😛
It's been so long since i did that level on UN (or at all for that matter) so i think my last playthrough took almost an hour
I need to actually play this game more often
it feels like most of my time is just spent practicing or testing stuff out
Tammie: I have barely played this game
Also Tammie: I got 42 hours on Eternal the past 2 weeks
Ah
I did a campaign speedrun today, so that was cool
My 2 am is your 7 pm
that’s crazy
If i would dig a hole straight down i would appear in your house it feels like
But ive noticed that its very common for me to be 7 hours ahead of people
Because by comparison we spend more time playing their games, at least if you’re a dedicated player
Someone who spent 4-8 years working on a game probably isn’t going to be that interested in playing it afterwards cause they know how the sausage is made
Also making a game doesn’t automatically make you good at it, as a mapper, I am nowhere near a competitive level with the speedrunner demos that get submitted for my work
Part of game skill is determined by mechanical ability as well
Nope
if there was it would've been posted in #announcements
fair point
i hope this game will feel a bit more like the classics mixed with the moderns
like, modern graphics, classic gameplay
My guess is that working hours on the same game every day for weeks makes you disinterested in actually playing your own project for fun
Some of 2016 SnapMaps did really good at that
well i want to have no jumping, no looking up/down
I mean Dark Ages definitely has looking up and down, and it looked like there was some form of jumping into a shield ground pound. So Dark Ages is definitely off the table
lol
we need games to pull a Mega Man 10 ahd go back to the absolute original designs and gameplay
who is gonna make the music now that mick has quit
You. Congratulations on your promotion
How much do you guys reckon the cost of the game will be?
dangg
mhm welcome to modern marketing
Gay doom guy:3
It's got that modern AAA shine it'll absolutely cost 70
Has anyone here tested witchfire already?
Probably Andrew Hulshult, he's the one who worked on the music for the TAG DLCs, and the remixed OSTs for the recent Doom 1&2 remasters.
He's pretty much id's go-to guy at this point.
he already confirmed he is not working on the soundtrack
Oh, that's news to me, I thought I heard he was gonna work on the soundtrack for this game, guess I'm wrong.
