Yes, that is correct. If you set a role for a channel to have the permission to view that channel, but however, if you disable the "Read Message History" from the same role on that channel, then Discord will not show members the sent messages on that channel 🙂

The second role is given to everyone, but they can only view the channel but not read message history and not send messages.

MEE6 says I have no servers, but that's not true...

Well, that can be caused by:
‣ You don't own any servers
‣ You don't have Administrator permissions or a bot master role on any server you're on
‣ You're logged on with the wrong account (the most common problem)

The third one can be fixed by following these steps:
1. Logout from Discord in your browser (not installed client or mobile app)
1.1 Open https://discord.com/channels/@me in your browser
1.2 Click on \⚙ icon (User Settings)
1.3 Scroll down, click Log Out and confirm the action

2. Logout from MEE6 website
2.1 Open https://mee6.xyz in the same browser
2.2 Click on the avatar icon in the upper right corner
2.3 Click Logout

3. Login using correct account
3.1 Open https://mee6.xyz and click Login button in the upper right corner
3.2 In the new window log in to Discord. After that, you will be redirected back to the MEE6 website
3.3 That's all! Now you're using the correct account and the MEE6 website lists servers where you can modify his settings

MEE6 is like a luxury bot, it can do so many things that people love, over the years the bot became became the biggest bot on discord, more things had to be paywalled to accommodate the costs to run the bot.

I pay at least 20 dollars a month for a cloud vm to host my projects, it's not real cheap imo

Not just run it, to constantly keep it updated - Discord does a lot of updates to its API, so do a lot of providers (e.g. twitch, Twitter etc) so they have to constantly ensure it always still works when they do implement updates on third parties end.
