In the past, I’ve often felt bad that Mabel received a bunch of unnecessary flack from fans in the past

But I’m just noticing I’ve done something similar to Sprig before as well

To be fair, he did do bad stuff such as drive someone insane after destroying his stuff, leading a serial killer to someone’s house, as well as basically be the reason why a lifelong fan’s truck for a restaurant he enjoyed got totaled

And whilst I still do not like the episodes where this occurred, I’m realizing that I definitely went too harsh on him and went down a path that the anti-Mabel crowd did before me

Especially considering he might be on the autism spectrum

Even then, his brain was still quite young and it was immature on my behalf to assume he would be able to always think ahead in terms of understanding the consequences of his actions

Sprig has definitely had his OOC moments honestly, and his flawed ones, but yea hes definitely done most of it in season 1 where he hasnt grown much yet either

I don’t know if I mentioned it here but I did mention it elsewhere on Discord and on this full episode rating of this show that if Sprig wasn’t lovable as a sidekick, he’d be among the worst characters in the show, which in retrospect was definitely a bit much for me to say 😭

So, final thoughts of the show:

The episodes were extremely episodic, and the formula was a lot more noticeable. Maybe that's because I'm watching from a more mature eye than I would've had I watched it while airing, but still enjoyable nonetheless despite the obvious "character ignores the obvious warning, character does the opposite of the warning, and character learns from it." I do understand that is the main premise of the show, so it's not the worst thing.

I do see why people are kind of touch and go with season 3. The pacing was a bit strange, and the first few episodes of them getting back to Amphibia was basically just: "Gain ally, big explosion to destroy Andrias' work." Mother Olm could've potentially been used in a more beneficial way, but she kind of felt like the random info dumper that didn't really know what she was saying until it was needed for plot.

I wish we got more information on the Core, and how the origins of it started. Who first thought of it? How did they pull it off and convince the others in the hivemind to join in? I also wish we got to see more of Darcy since they didn't appear all that much for being the big bad. But then again, neither did Bill Cipher, so it's okay.

I wish we got to see the three of them reunited with their families since Sasha and Marcy were gone for months. Also, the FBI stuff just seemed a bit out of place to me. They didn't really do much, and Mr. X didn't really feel like much of an antagonist.

I will say though, I'm conflicted on the ending. The whole "was it a hoax" thing seems like BS considering people took photos, and literal buildings were destroyed, but whatever.

The guardian/God thing confused the hell out of me though. It seemed like a such a random thing to throw into the last episode, and not much explanation was given about that. It reminds me of how rushed The Collector was in TOH.

Speaking of TOH, and I'm sure this isn't fully intentional, but it did kind of follow the same premise in more than a few ways. I know isekai type stories are extremely common, but having watched them not too too far apart made it hard to find the similarities. That doesn't stop me from a future rewatch though.

I'm a bit conflicted about the ending. I get the point of the ending is accepting change and things are constantly changing, so I understand why the trio had to kind of drift apart to better themselves. It's bittersweet that their friendship isn't as visually strong as it used to be, but at the same time them meeting up again could be the turning point to rekindle, but at the same time, I wish all three of them had talked a bit more during their time apart. Marcy made it seem like she had little to no contact with them despite the one being scared to move.

Overall, still a decent show. I don't think it beats TOH, but I still enjoyed it for what it was.

I think I'm gonna separate my thoughts on season 3/the ending just so I dont feel like I'm constantly steering the conversation into a Darcy one bc I tend to do that, so I'll list a big gripe of mine that IS related to Darcy first, then I'll say my issues I have that are not about Darcy

Idk how many other people notice on their first watch or even a rewatch, but it bothers me just how much...nobody seems to give af about Darcy or anything she does in general. Like, we all know Darcy is 1. a totally abnormal creature and nobody was supposedly aware of the Core in the first place, especially not our main cast. and 2. While Darcy and Marcy aren't the same, that IS still Marcy's physical body, and Marcy HAS friends in wartwood and Anne and Sasha obviously know her very well.
But none of that seems to affect anybody???
Anne and Sasha see Darcy, and they also see how much they're in control, even bossing around Andrias. The wartwood rebellion sees her, including ppl she had bonded with, like Maddie, and nobody questioned who they were or why they suspiciously looked and sounded like Marcy????
Then as soon as the main cast escape the castle and head to the school to make a plan to stop this invasion, THEY NEVER BRING UP OR MENTION DARCY OR MARCY. Like, no mention of how to beat Darcy, what to do about saving Marcy, not even a slight "what was that thing??" It was just. No mention. And then Sasha and Grime act SURPRISED that Darcy shows up to block them from turning off the generator???? WHAT?????
Then, Darcy CUTS GRIME'S ARM OFF, SLICES SASHA'S BACK, both pretty severe things!! Even if it hadn't killed them, still a pretty big and especially noticeable injury!! But no. They're perfectly fine and nobody points it out/brings it up. I understand its a kids show, so again, they dont need to make it super realistic or even have it be fatal, but nobody MENTIONS or gestures to it????
Then Marcy comes back and Olivia mentions that "Darcy has been defeated", and still, she and Wartwood just,,,had no reaction. No "who is Darcy??" or anything similar. And it never comes up again I guess?????????????? That all drives me CRAZY lol.

That the Core truly doesnt die, because its technically already dead. Darcy was the only time that it was ever alive once more. I think the Core can come back in different ways, and I hope the comic could maybe explore that more.

Honestly, the only way I could see it returning is through Andrias' crown. The moon was obliterated and we didn't see rocks or anything fly towards Amphibia. Unless the ancient newts had back up plans that weren't as successful or had a small success rate.

Idk how I just realized this but they really did do Marcy dirty a bit. Since her introduction it was clear that she was a follower, but other than that, we didn't really get her main toxic trait until the season 2 finale. Her growth isn't really expanded upon until she's inside the Core, but even then, that was basically one episode's worth of growth, while Anne and Sasha had multiple episodes that slowly aided in their growth.

Also, this is just me, but I wouldn't have had Marcy move at the end. Or at the very least let the family have a conversation about the topic and their options. Her dad did drop that massive bomb on her, on a friend's birthday no less.

I would think that if my daughter was so scared and unhappy with the prospect at moving, especially with that being a big change for a teenager and her running away to another world for half a year and nearly died, I would reconsider taking up a job offer.

Yes, her reaction could be seen as overdramatic, but she is still a teenager. Moving kind of feels like a whole family conversation, especially when Marcy is old enough to have conversations like that and with her intelligence, potentially make an argument to stay. But again, just me. Maybe that takes away from the lesson, but moving would definitely be the last thing on my mind after my child experienced all that.

It doesn't really prove or show any growth for her character. She ran away from home because her parents didn't give her a heads up, she's always felt unsee by her friends and potentially parents, and realizes that she can't run from reality anymore...by herself without anyone really being there to witness her growth, and she still moves away at the end and basically no consequences or change.

Well thats what bugs me the most about her moving, like yes, I understand that the moral is to face reality even if its sometimes difficult, but she just went through the MOST TRAUMATIC experiences one can possibly go through at 13 years old, and then only a week or two after, she has to move to a whole new town, new home, new school, nothing comfortable for her

I'm pretty sure she'd still have her folks to talk to about it. We can't really assume they're heartless, so they could probably be her support system when she moves. Speaking of trauma and support systems, I'll be sure to dive more into that in my S3 essay.

Anne even says she can be strict in season 2, but still misses her more than anything and goes out of her way to get her a gift in newtopia, out of everyone in her family

Yeah Sasha and Anne actually expanding and mending their toxic relationship was something that took time. There was some steps taken back when one of them started being a bit toxic again, but it was handled after a long period of time.

Yeah it hurts, but I would so worried about Marcy in their position. Their friendship is somewhat built on toxicity in the beginning, but even beneath that we've seen that they do care about each other even after they grow up.

Idk about that. It feels like a bit of a downplay since the Plantars basically became her second family. The Calamity box was literally their way home, and HP had hidden that and lied to Anne. Maybe then the moments of forgiveness and reconciliation in the finale would've actually had an impact and actually meant shit.

Damn I fell asleep during an Amphibia discussion 💔 I gotta go to work so I cant ramble too long right now but anyways

I think a big thing we gotta remember relating to the Hop Pop betrayal VS the Sasha and Marcy betrayals is that Hop Pop's happened in the middle of season 2, a time where things felt okay and they were just doing adventures to get a way back home. They knew nothing of all the backstabs, chaos, and Anne even thought she could travel back and forth whenever she wanted. With Sasha and Marcys however, theyre in basically apocalypse mode, in their POVs. And Anne had skepticism of Sasha in Commander Anne a lot, up until Wartwood frogs, whom she tried to kill beforehand, even stood up for her and stated how much shes changed. So I think something like that would comfort Anne since the whole point is that she trusts the frogs more than anyone else in this show.
As with Marcy, I think theres a lot you could say about that. Btw yes, in the Marcy journal, Anne says she represses some emotions because shes trying to focus on going back to Amphibia and getting the Plantars safely home, because she knows what its like to be trapped on a strange world and now theyre in her position. Anne has more time to think about Marcys betrayal and understand why she did it. Not that it was okay, it wasnt, but after seeing both Hop Pop and Sasha have the ability to improve, of course she is gonna find it a bit easier to give Marcy the benefit of the doubt. Plus, seeing her save Sprig AND get stabbed in the chest was....a lot, and it showed Anne that Marcy wasnt some malicious person

Also I could go on about how some ppl blame Darcy for Marcy not getting enough screentime and development, but, the writers couldve easily done both, because Darcy doesnt have much screentime either, so 😭 Season 3 shouldve had more Marcy AND Darcy, I will stand by that

Yeah, but we did see in "The New Normal" before she was about to reunite with her parents that Sasha and Marcy's actions still had a bit of an effect on her. But after that episode all that gets brushed aside like nothing. Season 3 should've focused more on her mental state instead of having her act like everything was ok.
Plus, I can understand Anne be willing to trust Sasha as Wartwood's commander since she saw that she was getting along well with them and not trying to hurt them, (and also since they were on the same side of the war) but like, we could've at least had Anne be a bit paranoid around Sasha until she had slowly earned her trust across every episode until the finale.
Yes, she had skeptism in "Commander Anne", but again, all of that was just brushed aside like nothing, and was still willing to team with Sasha without any hesitation whatsoever. Like, if it takes you a while to trust somebody and then they end up breaking your trust a second time, surely that would have at least some impact on you when trying to trust them a third time, right??

I think that is a fair thing to want to see more of, is Anne continuing the skeptism outside of Commander Anne, Im unsure if its because the stakes are different in their current situation or a writing choice (or a mix of both). I'll be honest, I was more annoyed at Sasha immediately trusting the Olms that she knew for 2 minutes, but then turning around and treating Marcy like she was an unforgivable person 💀

Ok, but at least we can admit that the Plantars immediately trusting Sasha as Wartwood's commander like they had no beef whatsoever was literally one of the most unrealistic things about this season.

I mean, Wartwood has always had a very strange way of trusting people. They're a very tight-knit community that tends to come together about decisions. Although it is a bit unrealistic, it's somewhat normal for Wartwood to have that hivemind thinking lol.

I think some of it also has to do with Wartwood evolving as a whole. They've always been known to not trust or respect people and its even their town motto, as the joke goes. But I think Anne's effect on Wartwood has helped them open up more. Could they have been more skeptical, yeah definitely. But I think it's to show that they trust anyone who Anne trusted, because Anne is one of them. At least, that's how they viewed it, not knowing the whole True Colors incident.

I'm talking about the Plantars specifically (especially Sprig).

Yeah, but like, they were literally the most distrusting of Sasha, Sprig especially. Even with everything that was going on, I'm not convinced that they would be instantly cool with Sasha being around at Wartwood (at least maybe Sprig wouldn't).
Maybe if instead of an episode of Sprig having to team up with Grime, we could've had him team up with Sasha. Like at the start of such an episode, Sprig would be the only Plantar left still stubbornly distrusting of Sasha, and she would try to do everything she can to earn his trust like she would have earned HP and Polly's trust. But then at the end of that episode, Sprig would have chosen to forgive her after seeing that she had genuinely changed. Like it could not have been that hard to get an episode like that in 3B!

My first ever puppet build 🎉
I have adored Sprig ever since I first watched Amphibia and whenever I see Sprig, I think "Wowie, such a cutiepie and a true friend 🥹. I love that lil guy"
The animators seemed to make the behaviour of many of the inhabitants of Amphibia very Muppet like at times to me, so I thought "I'm gonna make one of them into a puppet!". When they made a side character in an episode just off brand Kermit, I felt so validated. He is just so cute. Now I just need to learn to use his arm rods to do this little man justice 😆
I'm planning to make his little slingshot, and maybe some other things too at some point hehe 😜 (Just not anytime soon as I am planning to finish little things such as mending and small projects I have planned to do before doing anything big or embellishing 🙃)

I don't think Marcy's ever really called out Sasha on her questionable behavior like Anne has. Really wish they could have explored their dynamic a bit more, honestly.

Speaking of which, that's probably another aspect of the show's (mainly S3's) writing that pisses me off. The fact that the consequences for Sasha and Marcy's actions ended up being almost completely brushed off too easily, which kind of defeats the whole point of their respective character developments.

In Sasha's case, it is true that she chose to forgoe her scheming habits after seeing the consequences of her actions, but ultimately that didn't really mean squat later on because Anne practically acted like nothing happened between them and Marcy, as I've pointed out earlier, never really bothers to hold Sasha accountable for her behavior like Anne has (which I hate to say seems a bit problematic) even during what happened in the first half of "True Colors".

In Marcy's case, she does realize that she messed up getting her peers trapped in another world and that she can't force them to like what she likes, but then later on it ultimately had no detrimental impact to the girls' friendship whatsoever (probably due to some emotional repression or something idk).

Both Sasha and Marcy's arcs certainly excelled in showing how they both realized the error of their ways through the consequences of their actions, but both these arcs fall flat because said consequences are ulimately swept under the rug.
