Execute is not something you press while dungeon tanking though, unless it means you can get rage for the next pack.

It's just simply a quick ticket to rage starve yourself and it makes establishing threat miserable.

That being said, if yall are complaining about mages ripping threat on trash, it's kind of whatever. They will always do that and if a mage cannot kite the mobs or manipulate the pull themselves, cest la vie. They're just bad.

2h is fine for leveling and can manage in 5 mans at 60 with a sweeping strikes build provided you have WF. Fury/prot and DW is the way to go in raids. Deep prot can do okish with low gear for 60 5 man content but gets outclassed pretty quick.

sup everyone. not new to tanking but new to warrior and warrior tanking. WoWhead says to camp defensive stance unless I'm using Sweeping Strikes or Whirlwind, but if I'm basically always using those 2 abilities why would I ever swap back to defensive stance? wouldn't I just be wasting an absolute boatload of rage?

You're pooling rage to use those abilities specifically and swap back to defensive stance dude

Tac Mastery + Sweeping Strikes means you can have like nearly 60 rage or something and not "waste and absolute boatload of rage" when you dance.
Press Sweeping Strikes and dance to defensive stance

Then when fight is nearly done dance back to battle and do it all over again. You don't just sit in one stance as warrior, you dance and use your abilities/resources

I see the problem this guy is having in his brain. All his abilities on his bars need to be replaced with macros that swap to any given stance to be used.
So charge first switches you to battle stance, sweeping strikes first switches you to battle stance, WW switches you to Zerker, Sunder swaps to defensive.. all automatically. The macros need to be in the same spots on all the stance bars so your brain just gets the muscle memory for it. He is probably clicking stances n shit it sounds like

If you’re ranking true strike will be replaced by the r13 shoulders. Legs will be r12 which are 2% crit 1% hit. In Vanilla, given loot scarcity, you reach a point of could but should.

If you’re gonna get rank 14 those weapons are either better or equivalent to any you’ll get from raid. There’s some nuance to say sim Maladath as offhand, but I just know if a warrior in my squad took CTS then got r14 he’d be on my to-watch list as a bit of a greeder.

DFT is much more of a tanking item. Don’t get me wrong, it’s still a great dps item, but echoing back to what I just said, there’s a “you could grab, but SHOULD you grab?” I’m planning on yielding it to roles that are gonna use it better. We’ve got solid options now, especially with dflask available.

You can fury prot the whole thing. I go def stance and shield block on occasion on Nef and Chrom, on Broodlord I typically Last Stand and he’s dead. I wear LGG as insurance.

generally you don't want to be killing mobs above your level because it is remarkably painful and not worth it, but if you had to fight +3 mobs then the weapon skill will help a lot

a good part of the reason to take whirlwind axe is that axe spec is 5% crit and basically every good weapon for a very long time is an axe

corpse maker -> bonebiter/whirlwind axe -> executioner's cleaver is like 30 levels of axes

mace spec is totally fine too it's just you'd have to respec to it for the mace and off it when you get a new weapon

the non-axe weapons are also a bit faster than the axe which is a downside with your mortal strike/whirlwind doing weapon damage, and parry haste being a % of your attack

and cleave costing rage per attack so slower weapons are more rage efficient

all this to say it's not really a big deal and maces and cool and the mace spec talent can be quite fun to play with so do whatever you like, i just figured you'd like to know why people choose the axe

Hey guys, I have a question about a macro, does anyone here get 2 GM warhammers on to use the diamond flask for some extra healing before returning to normal weps?

I would have just assumed something like this:

Cant find the reddit thread where I found this so cant reference, but this solution works great for me with double coldrage daggers and equiping them while in combat. 

It works by creating equipment sets using the equipmentmanager in game, the UI isn't implemented but the functions for it are fully implemented.

1: Equip the daggers
2: Run this macro:

/run local set = "Coldrage" local c = C_EquipmentSet c.CreateEquipmentSet(set) for i = 1,19 do if i ~= 16 and i ~= 17 then c.IgnoreSlotForSave(i) end end c.SaveEquipmentSet(c.GetEquipmentSetID(set))

You have now created a equipment-set with the name Coldrage that ignores all gearslots except your MH and OH.

3: You can now equip the daggers by calling "/equipset Coldrage" in a macro 
     (without the " " of course)

4: You can create more sets for weapon-swaps with the same macro, just remember to change the name :slight_smile:
just change the part of the macro where it says "coldrage" to whatever you want and run it while you have both daggers equipped

Without a longer explanation on why, is there a remotely close chance that you can make 2H warrior work somehow and how? I can't seem to fit in BT and flurry without losing sword spec or axe spec for example and vice versa. I assume you have to run with either MS or BT but MS seems ass compared to BT but maybe im wrong. Flurry seems like way to good of a dps talent but maybe attack speed doesnt matter for 2H?

AND what about gear? Is it still the same as dual wield fury when thinking about it you'd rather have as much AP as possible after hitting hit, rather than crit?

yeah most of your damage output comes from kill time and world buffs especially in 2019 when people weren't as savvy with world buffs and didnt have chronoboons

On fights like chromaggus with a lot of downtime 2h closes the gap. On horde side its competitive and you will still beat any other class.

Heyy just looking for some advice - first time playing Warrior in Classic. In currently level 45, I’m a dual wield enjoyer, so I usually main rogue, I really don’t like 2H weapons. So I’ve been DW on my warrior, although I know 2H arms is better for levelling but I don’t mind, just playing what I enjoy. But my question is, every 60 warrior I see is always DW, at what point is DW actually good and preferred? I’m pretty limited in my knowledge of warrior, but I know that tanks DW with fast weapons, do DPS warriors dual wield too? And also has anyone got a list of DW weapons for progression from 45-60, all I see online is 2H lists.

Dps sits in serker. Tank sits in def. If you’re doing dungeons use your second spec for a tac mastery taking dps spec and run your raid spec as the other.

Nothing changes gameplay wise really asides buttons you’re pressing. You’re not doing stance dancing that much like Cata or something.

i'd say tanking until level 50 can just be done with a dps spec in dps gear. there's not really any chance at all you will be able to hold agro against multiple mobs in your everyday dungeon activities.

it gets better once you can go deep prot and get devastate, but until then tanking is tough.

with that out of the way, the only addon i would say makes your life so much easier that i'd consider it mandatory is some sort of nameplate addon. either elvUI or plater nameplates.. anything that lets you see your threat on the enemy nameplates. when you're tanking 5 mobs and you see a nameplate turn green just click it and taunt

other than that tanking is just trying to keep agro of as many mobs as possible while not dying. use your cooldowns wisely, mainly aoe taunt and shield wall, always apply demo shout on every mob/pull, always apply thunder clap on bosses and keep it up, once you get devastate NEVER use sunder armor ever again, tab target devastate for agro, ...

but all of this info is also in the tbc prot warrior wowhead post i linked earlier. i suggest you just read through that to get an idea and then come back if you have more specific questions

The TBC pre-patch pretty much broke all the WAs that resembled anything useful. I’d recommend just using some of the Classic WAs, since some abilities are still the same and use the same spell IDs. That said, caution is advised this isn’t true for all spells and varies heavily from class to class.

Hey! i have this exact macro and its still not working.

When I click the assigned ability, it does cast Berserker Stance (so it moves me out of Battle and into Berserker), but its does not cast Whirlwind (for some reason). I cant seem to get it to work properly. Perhaps because I do not have enough rage to cast Whirlwind when changing stances?

thats something u need to get use to...and with how the player base is..they wont give u a few secs to get threat...so u need to learn and deal with it....basically u need to figure out based on what grp comp u have...what utilities u can use..like slow trap...mage blizz slow..fear...sap etc...based on that u get an idea on how to peel for yer team...i have a macro /p Watch Threat please and i press it when i miss a few abilities...

but basic tldr of aoe threat is...
Thunder clap becomes yer main ability...which means u need to press it every 4 secs without fail...so u will have somewhat of a rotation for aoe...
also CLEAVE becomes valuable if u have loads of rage specially with a shaman in the grp with windfury, but u need to learn to position yourself so u can hit different targets everytime u cleave

mark skull...hit it with devastate or shield slam > get rage for thunderclap > thunder clap > now u have 2 or 3 GCD in which u have to decide...tab target devas > hit 1 more on skull > thunderclap > another 2 or 3 gcd > demo shout > tab devas > taunt > thunderclap

and with this if u go engineering you will have bombs and sappers to help...and that really helps...also u can buy non engineering bombs from the AH...for some help

You can build a good dps hit cap bis list via quest and rep items pretty easily. Crafted gear helps

Can use the old sim as well if it still works. Latros having Expertise and AP makes it far more valuable than Kings Defender. It's also your phase 1 BiS OH anyway

Yeah from everything I’ve seen if dps is comparable kebab is able to interchange fast OH/MH with just good weapons but fury gets a noticeable bump from slow OH. Has to do with whirlwind scaling and other things, mainly fast OH for Kebab for swords. Because that OH will proc sword socialization more often. Where as if you’re orc axes it doesn’t matter as much

Dragonmaw is still fine for kebab we’re talking % differences it’s just better axes and swords work with kebab better because you either get 5% more swings or 5% crit.
In this phase the hammer works okay but in later phases kebab scales hard with swords or axes where as fury can just run the hammer forever cause haste is nuts still

Sounds like you have options and should decide based on what you plan to do with the game.
Hammer gives Dragonstrike long term, Sword gives Lionheart, both good but serve different purposes for different specs/setups.

Hi, I’d really appreciate some help understanding Protection Warrior optimization.

After yesterday’s Gruul raid, I felt like my threat generation was lacking. I realized I had overcommitted to mitigation — I was sitting at 522 defense but had 0 hit.

So I regemmed and adjusted my gear. I lowered my defense to 493 and increased my hit to 5.6%.

Right now I’m choosing between Latro’s Shifting Sword and Dragonmaw as my tanking weapon.

I’m struggling to evaluate how valuable the expertise and faster speed from Latro are compared to using Dragonmaw instead.

Which one would you recommend for tanking, considering my current stats

2h sword isn’t dead there’s still some good parses. But Max damage with 2h slam requires
1- perfect slam timing to not clip auto attacks requiring roughly 30 ping or less.
2- tanks and fights that aren’t constantly moving absolutely destroying your slam casts.
3- more of a constant focus on swing timers and rotations as well as timing every auto and never clipping ever.

So because of this dw arms which can achieve 95% of the dps of max slam is just easier to play and significantly more consistent

Yeah my understanding is it isn't a bar, you use the WA in addition to your swing timer and this shows you your delay on Slams. I'll look when I get home but it's used in addition to you existing Swing Timer

Your slam needs to immediately follow an auto, it sounds like you're being too overzealous in your casts and not watching your swing timer enough

Yeah it's mostly to gauge the delay you're having so you can lock in. You don't necessarily want to precast in case you eat autos like you said you have been

You want your slam cast to begin like within a certain amount of time after the auto, most of what I've seen is like less than 100ms is decent and closer to like 50ms is great

You can go zerker/battle stance and execute when it hits that window, but with a healthy threat lead and shit (since any stance but defensive generates 80% threat compared to Defensive stances 130% not talented). But keep in mind too long spent there can get you classified as dps/gladiator and not tank.
This is a more advanced rotational adjustment and not something you do when not comfortable.

From what I've seen in the guides, they always say to use Bloodthirst and Whirlwind.

Hello. Im playing fury build for general leveling and I’m having troubles holding aggro in leveling dungeons in tbc classic. I tried doing sweeping strikes into whirlwind into thunderclap and demo shout, I tried doing it in opposite order, I tried doing just sword and board with tabtargetting sunder armor in def stance, I tried comboing both in different ways, I just can’t figure out how to hold threat. Don’t remember having such problems in vanilla classic. Any idea what else should I try? I’m lvl 46 atm. Is going prot + improved thunderclap worth a try?

Just level as dps til mobs hit hard enough. Your job at lower levels is mostly control and peel your casters.
Nothing until maybe outlands hits hard enough to be a cause for concern.

I'm not telling you to just afk on pull, but it's not realistic to expect to hold threat on every mob on cleave as a warrior. If you want that you're going to want to go paladin.

Especially if you have like a mage blizzarding, you just have to keep mobs off them and the healer.

Most importantly, make sure you always keep 50 rage between pulls. If you start pulls with 0 rage you will never ever hold aggro on aoe.

Casters still but the upgrades for the spells, they just use different ranks depending on the situation to be more efficient. As physical classes we don't get that as an option.

While leveling and poor there are spells you can forego buying to save gold but ultimately you will want to buy every single one. For an infographic on which skills you'll use while leveling up to which point, you can check out the classic warrior discord linked just a bit up in this channel. This discord is for retail.

Because you're over spending near the end of a pull, and not chaining in to pulls well enough / using your tools like blood rage to maintain rage while healers drink.

Fury spec with sweeping strikes will be 100x better than deep prot, so long as you play it correctly and pool rage. If you have to wait 8s before you have enough rage to cast sweeping strikes and ww, then another 3s to cast thunderclap; how do you expect to hold threat? Of course you'll lose it you spent 8s essentially afk. Losing threat of mobs when they're at 10% life near the end of the fight is perfectly fine and you should not be spending extra rage to try and keep it at that point, that's where your extra lost rage goes.
