Concern brought up by Stobbsy
I've tried about 10 times on ps5 and unable to get exotic to spawn at all during 5 ship regular freighter battle. Transferred same save via cross save to Steam, tried 3 times and works ok each time in same system. Looking for people to confirm my findings on PS5 and maybe if people on Xbox Series consoles and other platforms I dont have access to, can kindly test to see what result is on other platforms. I know previously it didnt work on old gen consoles, but I think something changed on a recent patch. Looking to try and find out the extent of the change.
After discussing the background of this with Bkay, this sounds like a bug likely worth reporting to HG.

dunno if its a bug, intended or what though
It doesn't sound intentional if you saw it working on one platform and not the other.
i don't see how it would be considered anything else tbh
old gen always been different though
really could never understand why old gen would even have a problem spawning one little ship. makes even less sense on next gen. if there are no systems that spawn exotics for those platforms at all, and not just a simple reshuffle, then imo that comes down to a bug, if the builds are the same in that aspect
I think DHW once explained that Old gen couldnt spawn the same amount of ships as current gen / pc
For the record, Gleam's take is that if an exotic is ALWAYS spawning in a freighter battle on someone's system / platform, that's gotta be a bug. There should be an RNG factor for exotic spawns during freighter battles. Cc @exotic lagoon
so old gen couldn't spawn 5 ships?
dunno, i think it was as well as the enemy ships
yeah, then ok - let's assume platform limitation, somehow, for now
how does that translate into next gen?
it doesn't
if it doesn't, then bug
only thing i can think of is build becoming more aligned between ps4 and ps5 for cross save
yeah, i don't see why
save file progress is one thing, exe magic and game files is another
well, like i already said before, the most i can do is to ask others to test it
i don't have a console to test with
Yes, thats why i wanted in server suggestions the ability to ask people outside of staff and emissaries to test as more people likely to have other platforms
I know Chippy is on Ps5 and might test for me to see if same, but Ive no clue who is on Xbox Series
or GoG or other platforms
That's the purpose of this thread. You're welcome to discuss your concerns with other players and use this thread to further discuss or coordinate any further testing as you guys see fit.
Regardless of the outcome, I still feel time is better spent reporting the bug to Hello Games via their Zendesk.
@exotic lagoon got some coords on the ready for people to try?

These methods do not work on old gen consoles.
Setting up:
• Meet the time requirement to encounter a freighter rescue battle (3 hours of playtime and 5 ship warps since the last battle). Until then, always exit ship to update restore point slot before ship warping out to another system.
• If using glyphs, reach the target galaxy and portal to your desired system. Then warp out to a nearby uncharted system, drop and claim a base computer.
Doing the above ensures that when the battle triggers in some random system, you can always reload restore point, teleport to claimed base computer, exit ship once more to update restore point and ship warp out to your target glyphs system nearby.
• A freighter battle should trigger and you will fly towards the capital ship. Upon getting close to the freighter, the game will inform you how many attackers (pirates) are present (see image link »). If there are 5, proceed. If there are 8 attackers, the exotic won't always spawn, so it is recommended you try a different system.
• You can reload restore point to search for different exotic designs through many systems, until you find a system that has both 5 attackers and the exotic design you want.
Once you decide that you want to get the current system's exotic, you have two methods you can try:
Method 1:
• Rescue the npc freighter and dock with it. You should see the ships heading towards it as well and the exotic will land shortly thereafter. You can reload restore point and rewarp back into the same system and redo the battle to respawn/reroll exotic stats.
Method 2:
• Note: Only use this method if you're certain that you'll have the units to get the ship, as exiting ship in space station will overwrite restore point save slot, removing the ability to reload to the previous system and redo the battle if you need to for some reason. Exotics go for about 40M units.
• Toggle through the friendly ships to find which one is the exotic. You will have to find the exotic by actually seeing it. (see image link »)
• Kill the pirate the exotic is focused on. Kill each pirate the exotic is focused on. If the exotic doesn't go after another pirate, follow it to the space station.
• Once the exotic is close to the station, land in the station. The exotic may fly a couple rounds around the station. Then whenever the exotic flies in, buy it.

ok, nice
The only other thing I'd suggest for the
disclaimer at the top of this FAQ is to not just mention "old gen consoles". And instead, change that to say:
A "guaranteed" exotic spawn via these methods may not work for everyone.
That saves players from expecting it to be guaranteed across all platforms. Thoughts, @solemn wadi?
If you dont know which platforms it does and doesnt work on, its not worth even suggesting it in my opinion as an option for getting exotics. For all we know, might only work on Steam
I thought you said you saw it working on Steam PC though
it is on Steam, might only work on steam PC, no idea about mac, gog console etc
I think the FAQ should remain until it's confirmed it doesn't work for everyone. But we update the disclaimer to make it extra clear that this may not work for everyone.
that sounds good to me, if it works at least for some
I also feel this should be reported to HG if it's confirmed to not be working consistently across platforms.
agreed
Ill confirm those systems are still viable after my food
1st two links are viable, 3rd is now a Dreadnought spawn, Ill edit original post and delete from here
Is everyone able to see this thread or do they need to be invited?
@plush osprey ^ please see Stobbsy1's question above when you get a bit of spare time
Not everyone sees this thread automatically. If you link the thread in chat, they can "open" it. But they must either be pinged in this thread or they must type / post here in order to see the thread listed under the #nms-questions channel for easiest access
This is purely speculation, but I would guess the intended behavior is to spawn ships at the same rate as normal, so 1/301 for exotic chances in a battle. That means it would take triple digit tests to know if it's working like that. I would think no exotics or always exotics would be the bug.
That'd honestly make the most sense. Which can also explain why some report they "never" see it; they may just be reporting how RNG works, with unintentional bias from the expectation it's a "guaranteed" spawn. Cc @obtuse ocean @solemn wadi @exotic lagoon
You probably wont notice any difference on Steam, I've done 5 out of 5 successfully on Steam, and its basically still guaranteed.
I'm at the point that RedHotTrouble just edits Faq-exoticfarm and says, works on Steam, May or may not work on other platforms. I think its just hard to find people to try it on other platforms, partly cause of the hassle of having to wait for the freighter battle to try it and partly people arnt into farming exotics.
tbh, i do agree, and mostly just from seeing the feedback of the times when i did suggest people using this strategy: "how do i trigger a freighter rescue battle again? i have to wait that long?" - and also, there's more players asking about sentinels, than there are about exotics
now, one idea i've been entertaining is to use a system where the freighter rescue battle always triggers, but without owning a freighter yet and/or having completed 2 events yet.
With Ps5, I just reset the battle on nomnom on steam and transfered save to ps5 via cross save, made it easier
the battle still triggers, but with the old event type
iow, a save to exotic hunt in those systems
who's going to go through all that vs waiting for rng to spawn an exotic?
probably no one
I suppose you could just have a save in that status just for farming exotics for people
yeah, but fairly limited audience
I know I used to help people get exotics that way, have them sit in station, while I triggered battle and spawned exotic
pre dreadnought though, But if I have a save with just system freighter and less than 2x battles could still do it
right

Given that this is a game exploit (unintentional and unpredictable game mechanic), an exotic spawn via these methods is NOT guaranteed on most platforms. Feel free to test it and report back in this thread or via #contact-us.
Initial Setup
-#
Freighter Battle Requirement: You must have played 3 hours (cumulative), and have done 5 ship warps since the last battle.
Before the battle requirement is met, always exit your ship to update the restore point save slot before ship warping out to another system. Once the requirement is met, continue as follows:
- If using glyphs, reach the target galaxy and portal to your desired system. Then warp out to a nearby uncharted system, drop and claim a base computer.
- -# The step above ensures that when the battle triggers in some random system, you can always: 1) reload restore point, 2) teleport to claimed base computer, 3) exit ship once more to update restore point and 4) ship warp out to your target glyphs system nearby.
- A freighter battle should trigger, and you will fly towards the capital ship. Upon getting close to the freighter, the game informs you how many hostile pirates are present. See example »
- With 5 pirates, proceed to battle.
- With 8, the exotic may not spawn, so it is recommended that you try a different system.
- You may reload the restore point to search for different exotic designs through many systems, until you find a system that only has 5 pirates and the exotic design you want.
- Once you decide that you want to get the current system's exotic, try either method below.
Method 1
Rescue the NPC freighter and dock with it. You should see the ships heading towards it as well, and the exotic will land shortly thereafter. You can reload restore point and re-warp back into the same system and redo the battle to respawn / re-roll the exotic's stats.
Method 2
-# ⚠️ Use this method only if you're certain you'll have enough units to get the ship, as the exiting ship in the space station will overwrite the restore point save slot, removing the ability to reload to the previous system and redo the battle if you need to for some reason. Exotics go for about 40M units.
- Toggle through the friendly ships to find which one is the exotic. As in you must visually identify it as seen in this example.
- Kill the pirate the exotic is focused on. Kill each pirate the exotic is focused on. If the exotic doesn't go after another pirate, follow it to the space station.
- Once the exotic is close to the station, land in the station. The exotic may fly a couple rounds around the station. Then whenever the exotic flies in, buy it.

@exotic lagoon We made some tweaks to Faq-ExoticFarm, after your discussion / observations above. I hope the updated disclaimer helps address your concerns a bit better this time.
@exotic lagoon Before I forget, we updated the note yet again, after some feedback from Devilin

if i get an 8 pirate event do i reload to the previous save? or just ignore and warp to another system
Reload, try a different system
if i got it earlier do i need to get another 3 hours before it can do the event again?
Yes
oh oki thank you
I'll test it later on steam and ps5, not sure if anyone has tested since worlds pt2 update
As of version 5.57, this is still working on PC Steam, but not Ps5
Does reloading the save (autosave when the battle/encounter starts) rerolls the super charge placements?
no; SC slots on freighters and non-sentinel ships are fixed per seed
