When you get close to the explorable ones, there's generally a blue or green landing circle. You point at that and press 'e', and it will hover your corvette nearby and you can use the button to teleport down.

Basically, you use it to start the expedition. If you want, you can take up to 8 stacks of techs and 24 stacks of other stuff with you, but you can't get to the stuff you send in until you can summon the anomaly, which is after you warp once.

Everything you had before is restored when you come back, unless you took it with you. If you take it with you, you have to pick it to put back in the same terminal and come back with.

Your ship and multitool will still be there. You can also use nanites to copy them into the expedition when you get to the Anomaly, and you can use the terminal afterward to copy your ship out again, if you got a new one you like or something.

You shouldn't need Indium. The third milestone awards a pre-built Atlantid drive which is what you need to get to the purple system.

It also gives the recipe because ... I have no idea. You want to install the pre-built one out of the package in your inventory.

If you've got something like the broken ion shield or tarnished prediction unit. The ones that look like a smashed monitor screen. You can create a manual save then open it and reload and you'll eventually get indium.

Space stations have teleporters and trade terminals in rooms up to the left and right. If you use a black hole and need to get back to the expedition, just go to the nearest space station and return to your previous rendezvous.

Finding the companion was not hard. The milestone tells you to look in purple systems and tells you if the system you are in has one and then tells you if the planet you are on has one. I did that in a gas giant system while hopping from moon to moon for the milestone to land on all moons of a gas giant. The infested planet was annoying...the first four rendezvous systems at least don't have one and the pinned milestone isn't helpful. I was just hopping through yellow systems and scanning planets from space until I found one.

Pin the milestone and warp to purple systems. The milestone will tell you if the current system has one. If it does start landing on each planet and moon until the milestone tells you the current planet has it.

That's not a huge loss. There are plenty of ways to farm nanites.

Question to veterans who did the expedition on their main save:

1. Once the expedition started, you cannot cancel it until you get access to Anomaly again.
   There seems to have way to do that via the menu but it sounds like it is easy for you to get locked within the expedition.

2. Do you need a bare-bone ship or can I start it using my sentinel class-s ship?

1. you can always return to the main save from anywhere in the expedition. Go to the screen where your saves are shown and press button "Return to main save" and then you can return to expedition via the terminal you used to start it. Your progress in the expedition is not erased. You can't "cancel" it. Only way to end it is by finishing it...or I guess if time expires.
2. you can import a ship into the expedition from your main save but not immediately. You have to make it to the anomaly...which become available after you leave the starting system and dock with the space station. It will cost nanites...something like 2-3k nanites to import a maxed out ship.

1. You can access the anomaly again after you jump 1 system BUT you can't not cancel the expedition until you have completed it so you can finish; but you can go to the options menu like spirit27 said and and go to your primary save until you and back to the expedition save to finish it.

2. the expedition will start you with a randomly selected ship but yes you can import one once you gain access to the Anomaly again

I have heard someone say they lost their main save because the time to complete the expedition expired while they were in the expedition save. I have no idea if it's true but I would not recommend testing it. You have 3 weeks to complete the expedition and if for whatever reason you can't complete it make sure you're back in your main save before the timer on the expedition expires.

It doesn't hurt to dock with the space station in rd4 system so that if something does go wrong you can just take a space station telepoter back.

should've had to dock at at least one to build the corvette anyway (unless you transferred one instead), so you should have at least one space station tagged. the rendezvous points aren't very far apart, so if you find one, you won't have trouble getting tot he others

The rd5 system is two jumps away from the rd4 system. If you docked with the space station(and you should have to tag it in your teleporter list) then you should be able to use any space station teleporter to get back and then you'll have a short trip to rd5 system.

well, your best options it seems are to find another black hole or try to teleport back using the anomaly (or a space station? do space stations in abandoned mode have teleporters?)

Also... There's something about this expedition, from the moons with lakes to the colors on the planets. It feels a bit like early NMS, and I love it
