ok just went the long way round and confirmed @remote thunder - It doesn't "auto" catch when they bite, it's just that all you have to do is click and it reels them in, as opposed to click and hold. My first few catches have still nibbled quite a bit.

i used a couple planets and did zoology on them to get enough nanites to buy an a-class hyperdrive module from the starter system station, got a s-class hyperdrive module from rdv1, and i was set - must have used 3-4 warp cells the entire expedition

If you have the milestone selected it will tell you if there’s one in your current system. For bait, just anything that increases rarity should help.

Yeah, been hunting for one off and on for a while.

Whenever you warp into a system flit through the milestones that ask for a specific fish environment. You don’t ever need to do milestones in order aside from rendezvous so while searching for a burning planet you might find a frozen or radioactive one and be able to knock that milestone out.

I finished my expo in six hours this way.

If you’ve found water you can do the pearls, just make sure you have the milestone selected or it doesn’t seem to count

You can catch a legendary fish anywhere if you’re lucky

If you’ve got trap pots unlocked you can drop them while you’re fishing to knock that one over. Just remember to empty them and pick them up before you leave. And ofc sell all the fish you catch to hit the 500k units milestone

Speaking only for myself, I found and extreme world with extreme storms and used maglures during the storm. Got the fish I needed in 20 casts. Doesn’t have to be an extreme world tho apparently.

there are planets with mroe extreme storms in general. longer storms. more often. I'm in a red star system on a radiation planet and I'm averaging a couple storm fish per storm

I used Assorted Roe as bait for the storm fish, you can make it in the procesor using any two fish.

Also, before I go, I feel like I need to seriously question the point/usefulness of the fishing skiff.
It doesn't block weather effects, it doesn't improve fishing percents compared to fishing on any other platform, and since it flips like a pancake during rough waters, it makes more sense to just land our ships on the water & fish from their noses!

The only use it has is literally the cold storage.
That's it.
Can't even improve its size or drive it for repositioning.

you can reposition it slowly, by summoning it while standing on it. the way it handles during rough seas was supposedly patched in the latest hotfix

Man, it's actually surprising how rare scorched worlds are in the expedition galaxy. I've gone pretty far out of the way of the expedition route, and every system I come across the hud says there's no scorched worlds.

I found out last expedition that you can import your main save ship and multi-tool into the expedition if you have the nanites.

You can do it once you get to the Space Anomaly in the expedition. Just make sure you have the ship and multi-tool you want to transfer equipped in the main save.

If all else fails, you can always swap to your main save, equip your desired ship and/or multi-tool, then swap back to the expedition.

They don't explain it, I only found it out when I looked in the Expedition Terminal in the last expedition and saw there were options to copy your ship and multi-tool in the expedition itself.

I went through the whole of the Adrift expedition not knowing that I could copy them over.

I've been auto-fishing through the entire night, using assorted roe bait whenever I run out, and still haven't got the last stupid storm fish i need

There is literally a special bait for storm fish. Once I used it, I fished 4 times and got my 3 fish

There's a milestone to catch a specific legendary fish on the 5th rendezvous planet. I used no bait and fished for that one. Took about 30 minutes. I believe that it's more likely than a normal legendary, but I'm not 100% sure.

you can use your existing file and you'll switch back and forth between the expedition and your normal doings via the anomaly/pause menu, using your existing file also allows you to bring some tech/cargo and lets you copy your ship and multitool

You only really should have one of the underwater protection, just refill it with O2 when it gets low - the others can be sold or dismantled for parts - the rest of your modules are useful and you might want to keep them
