If you've scanned an apex predator and you didn't unlock the milestone, restart your game. I scanned one of the apex predators, didn't get it went back to an older save, restarted the game and scanned it again.

as far as having pending stuff, just take care of it before starting the new expedition. After you start, you will lose the option of copying the MT / ship from the previous expedition on that save.

Just scan all animals that you run into while doing other milestones and only double back to search for it if you still don't finish that milestone 'naturally' during the course of the rest of the expedition phases. You don't need to complete phases / milestones in any particular order.

Nope. You can complete stuff from any phase at any time even if there's still stuff missing from previous phases. Conversely you can also complete milestones 'early'. Like I had a couple milestones from phase 2-4 completed before leaving the starter system.

In some expeditions, you might need a reward from an earlier milestone to complete a later milestone, but not on this one.

Anyone had this bug where the first minotaur mission is just out in space nowhere near the planet the mission says it is on? I have not worked out a way to get around this.

I had that problem. I think it happened because I reloaded after getting the marker. Flying back to the planet worked for me, but supposedly smashing a grub on the ground works as well.

Sort of. You can't transfer eggs (if you're starting the expedition from an existing save) but they're tradeable so you could wait until people convert their expedition saves to regular saves and trade for one.

The rewards are exactly enough to get a tool from C to S, so I didn't test what would happen if you switched to a better tool beforehand. I did the entire thing with the starting one.

found underwater, red icon on visor. For the milestone, just loot the glowy bits until big fish spawns and then kill big fish. Alternatively, apparently you can cheese that milestone by killing any type of fish.

you'll need 150 ferrite dust to fix the ship. 2x 50 ferrite dust to craft into 2 metal plates, one metal plate goes towards fixing ship, second one goes towards building the portable refiner. The remaining 50 you convert to pure ferrite.

I've had so many new saves over the years that I do the whole fixing ship part pretty much on autopilot nowadays

by back home you mean to your regular save? seems like a wasted slot imo. Pretty easy to get infinite carbon by making a few standing planters, or alternatively multiplying condensed carbon with oxygen in a medium or large refiner. :P

the starting planet is pretty handy tho. There are a bunch of milestones that you can get done before even leaving that planet, simultaneously with the busywork. The alluring specimen one, the apex predator one, the 900 resources in a single burst one...

The starting planet has an underwater one as well that bk posted, so in the starting system there's at least 2 creatures that work for that milestone. I'm sure there are a bunch of other creatures that work for it all over the dropzone planets, so my advice is to just not worry about it and only actively hunt for it after all other milestones are done.

If you started the expedition from an existing save, then when the expedition ends you'll be forced back to the original save. No option to convert it to a separate save. If you want a save that will continue from where the expedition stopped you'd have to start a proper expedition save from the main menu.

what in the hell... I landed on the first planet and got out, and immediately horrors popped out and started attacking me. So I started firing at them and then the Sentinels freaked out and started attacking me

Yeah, you may need to walk a bit but they're literally everywhere on the expedition so it usually only takes a few minutes of walking to find at least one. :P

All POIs spawn horrors, and sometimes you get extra horrors from interacting with stuff. Like I got a few waves from interacting with those smoking bits of debris.
