I suggest you check your upgrades, see if they have a good percentage on 'fauna analysis', then place those all adjacent to each other also touching the base scanner tech. Do this in such a way to try make as many connections as possible, basically put them in a square, not in a line.

You can still do a search in this channel:

Well my first ever expedition took me just over 14 hours. I love my new robot pet. And I really love the electrical jetpack effect. It looks like a scary face on the winged variant 🤣

Thank you to all who've posted tips and stuff here. I was stuck several times and this discord thread was invaluable! I even chatted to a few people in passing whilst looking for stuff, which was nice cos I've rarely done that, having only been a solo player & just started doing Nexus missions in the last few days.

I have to say I'm loving NMS so much now. I bought it at launch and... well y'know, gave up cos it wasn't what we were expecting. Roll on 7 years and it's just amazing. There's so much to do! This is definitely the biggest comeback a game has ever had.

I think they were talking specifically about the tutorial in the main game, where, if memory serves, you are encouraged to build a base on the first planet you land on (as opposed to the planet you started on) - sure, you don't have to, but if you're following the tutorial you don't know that, do you? It's sort of why you're doing the tutorial 😄

Hmmm, I just checked the red systems along the expedition path between 3 and 4, that seemed to work for me. They seem to mostly be on exotic planets. Though by the time I got to that point and saw someone else suggest red systems I'd already got 4 out of 6 lol.
I basically had checked every planet in every system, being sure to check other players waypoints for other updates along the way. YES, it was time consuming, but it got me through the expedition pretty fast.

• Game Mode Explained: Expeditions are an alternate time-limited, season-like game mode with a set of challenges rewarding exclusive items that can be claimed in any and all of your saves, in any game mode account-wide. When you finish the expedition you may convert your save to a pre-determined game mode -- most expeditions convert to Normal, with the exception of Expedition 7 which converted to Survival. At the end of the event, the game forces the conversion.

• Saving: Although the game autosaves, make sure to synchronize your restore save point often, by exiting your starship and using save beacons/points.

• Save before claiming a reward, in case the reward glitches. Save after receiving the reward, in case the game crashes after.

• Don't hoard stuff early on. Exosuit storage is not abundant when you start out. Before you can upgrade storage, only keep items for active quests or what you need for survival (e.g., oxygen or life support gel, sodium or sodium nitrate for hazard protection). Sell or discard everything else. Hover over loot you come across, the item card says what you can use it for.

Info Double check before getting rid of items received from milestones, as they may be useful for other milestone requirements.

• Update Multiplayer configurations: Disable PvP and Base permissions to reduce potential headaches, like being griefed by other players. If you experience glitches, especially in heavily populated areas, including the Space Anomaly or warping with your freighter, disable Multiplayer and reload your save. Dig sites are everywhere. Look for shrines, take the not-a-word option, follow the waypoint, dig up the ruins. Or spot them from the air.

Also after you complete one of the milestones you get the entire glyph set

Sigh, just figured out a trick for the Unwelcome milestone, if you want to discover one yourself instead of portaling to given coordinates. Using the freighter scanner room automatically discovers the planets for Wonders purposes. So you just keep jumping to new systems and using the scanner. No need to actually visit the planets.

Is the issue specific to the expedition? How many saves do you currently have? Does this happen with other saves too? Does the issue persist when creating a new save (Creative)? Does this happen with other games?

I am not familiar with the Switch, but this appears to be a more common issue with the device. Sometimes caused by the game, other times the storage used (internal or microSD), or storage can be full, or at times an issue with Cloud Storage (Settings > Data Management > Save Data Cloud Backup) where user can be checked and/or turned on/off for games. Hopefully any of this is useful to you,

Weird.... apart from the way that Rendezvous 4 never seems to be in the system it tells me to go to, just came out of warp in the middle of a pirate assault, kicked off into freighter defense mode but while chasing the last pirate I accidentally collided with the freighter I was supposed to be protecting - just a graze, mind, nothing too worrying - and then it, the pirates and all the other ships around me disappeared, leaving me and the space station to look at eachother sheepishly...

When I attempt to play the expedition and attempt to make a save, it displays "no save data" in the autosave and restore point fields. But upon exiting my ship and selecting return to main menu option it prompts me with the "your game was last saved 6 seconds ago, are you sure you want to quit"
However as can be seen in this clip it does not actually save my game.

on Switch, you could also try starting the game as another user if you have more than one set up, in case there's an undocumented per-user/account limit. So ask that pretend japanese or south african "brother" of yours who gets all the bargains to test it.
Can you back up the saves? Thought all game saves were on internal memory and not exposed to users in any kind of useful way.

I was also not able to save on a new normal mode save.
As you suspected it was indeed that I had too many saves, which strikes me as odd since I had only 11.
I deleted a couple of my duplicate saves from past expeditions, and tried to make a new voyagers save. It now is saving.
It would appear that the switch can only hold 11 total saves

I haven't tried to use another account, though I suspect that using another account would present no issues other than having the expedition save on an account other than my main.

Yes. 2 of those saves started past expeditions but never finished them due to making some awesome finds that I was keen to save.
I captured the glyphs and other info then deleted those saves as they held no other significance to me.

My original voyagers run, I was able to get to the 3rd rendezvous point with all tasks completed up to that point.
So it really was unfortunate that something so silly was the issue.
But also good, cause now I don't have to wait 6 months for a switch update that fixes the issue. Lol

What is the issue with the Unwelcome milestone? Normally you just have to wander around to a nearby planetary system at most. Is there really nothing near the Expedition Route that works? Or are the glyphs in the tip just a shorthand on how to find it? (I've even been scouring Euclid for hostile planets and only got up to 80% so far)

I'm about 22 hours in. 80% done. Admittedly a lot of time was wasted going back to the starting system to find a decent Interceptor to boost my jump range, and then even more wasted finding out that none of the featured bases - at least on Switch, or at least on my Switch - were near anything of any use to me 😄 And a bizarre amount of time lost finding planets who's ocean bedrock was frustratingly between about 68 U and 73 U down (after digging). Just the 2 rendezvous points, a red and a blue sun, the underwater treasure, a hostile planet, some hot blood and 5 glitches left to find.

I have a 128 GB micro SD card on my OLED switch.
I have 47.4 GB of free space on my system and another 58.9 GB of free space on the SD card.

to use a portal you need the glyphs (reward for the tunnel milestone i think).
a portal should be found at rendezvous 3. otherwise directions to a portal can be given from solving a monolith puzzle

Tunnel milestone is Volume NOT distance so make sure your mining beam is max size or better yet, dig straight down and change to "flatten" and be done in seconds.

I had a much easier time with this expedition doing milestones out of order. I normally do them in order as best as I can. The community resources also were a huge help when I saw it was going to be tedious for my playstyle.

You should be able to just continue with the expedition save. Going to a new save might feel really slow after the expedition save, as well as the fact that you've spent some time on the expedition save.

Expedition saves turn into "normal" saves once you're done with the expedition (although there might be some things that don't become available on that save until the expedition time period ends)

You can always just keep the expedition save available while you try a new save and find out what you want to do. And as for the crowded part, you can fly far away from most people if you want to have it less crowded (or get into another galaxy that inherently is less crowded as well)

Usually the Rendezvous marker brings you near the location, but then you have to use your scanner to pinpoint it.
Not the default scanner that lets you identify rocks and plants, the one to the right of that that has flashing yellow left and right indicators to tell you which way to turn to aim at the location.

Alternatively, fly in a wide circle around the marker until you see a structure, usually a big f-off Archive. Land there and save yourself the walk!

you get the glyphs for one of the milestones, but that won't carry over to another save. If you're converting this save to a regular game, then you're golden.

The key word there is that it's volume, so you can set the terrain manipulator to the biggest possible and it will go quite quickly

Lost my portal, how do I find it again? I had found and activated the portal near one of my bases. I went back to it because there was a marker but now the marker is gone. How do I find it again? I have an exocraft and scanned for a monolith but it didn’t show the portal. Did that twice. Is it just chance?

aside from being careful about black hole warping before reaching all rndv points, not really.
the specific animal scans should be mostly found along expedition path but there are portal coords in the pins if you them
