The main problem I have with the forced choice is narratively they don’t really present the arguments for choosing one side. Even if you know all the lore, what impact am I having? What am I deciding for this construct? It’s just not a well-formed story

Remember to save before choosing what to put into the Construct, that way you can reload and get both heads

The save does get converted to a normal save once the expedition timer is up.

Plus if your normal save teleports to the same systems you went to, you can get it on there too. Assuming said save has all the glyphs.

Yes, you can play it offline. You will still see other bases which are often pretty helpfull.

The rewards you earn in an Expedition can also be claimed in all your other saves, which is nice. When the expidition is over it converts to a normal save so you can continue playing it as well.

It will ask for an echo seed, that is how you sooth it.

While you get some help in #nms-questions, I also recommend reporting this issue to Hello Games via their Zendesk. I'll share helpful links & info below. I recommend, if it's okay with you ofc, including a note in your bug report stating HG (the dev) has permission to access your save file (via the Nintendo cloud) in case they were to need to debug the crash you're experiencing.

They likely can for all consoles via each respective platform's cloud. It's how it works on Xbox and PS. I believe the same should be the case with Switch.

So I'm pretty new and I don't quite understand what expeditions are, are they just a series of narrative objectives to complete like a questline? How long do they usually run?

Yep, can take a while if you're new to them. Otherwise when you get the jist of it you can get them done in a day

Dang they could take multiple days? What about those sweet rewards like the robot heads and jetpack trails? Do those require grinding or are they "unlock on completion"-type items?

Unlock when you complete the phases,

Some are super easy like "fly to a rendezvous" others are like craft a item or destroy X or whatever

Also found out the hard way if you join someone like start the expedition you can spawn on what ever planet system they are in and my buddy started his on a radioactive hell planet instead of the normal starting world. That was fun
