In my present game (outlaws patch) I declined first freighter, and then got to the capital ship (free freighter) fight. After fight, on ship, I used the visor to see class - S! Whooppee 34 slots! Whoopee! BUT..... externally it only has two ports. Now, appearances aren't everything, but they DO matter... At least to me.

you should be hunting a freighter in a different system then, s-class hunt is such a grind I'd take what I can get and just repaint it later. appearance has no effect on ship storage or performance

When you take a screenshot, the portal glyphs are usually overlaid. However if you use photo mode it won't save the glyphs, you have to use your systems screenshot key

For Steam that is usually F12

Not sure for Xbox or PS

And if you are using your phone, just remember to include the glyphs in the photo

It depends largely on how much inventory space and upgrades it comes with, and it's largely random. I've seen the same exotic sell for both 5m and 13m due purely to inventory space

A max tier hauler with 48 slots is probably 100mil or more, while a 15-20 slot hauler is maybe 5-10mil

Ive also seen some dirt cheap s class ships. Not uncommon to see s class fighters shuttles and solar for less than 5mil, maybe as low as 2mil if you are lucky

you looking for that ship in the picture? just go to coordinates using portals and fly to space station make a auto save then wait for that ship, anomaly have the regular teleporter but not the portal where you input the glyph coordinates

This all assumes you've earned/unlocked them all first naturally.

There will usually be specific instructions, but that's a common method.
Some trading posts are busy enough you can just wait.
Some ships are crash sites.
Some are "first waves" at a station, which from what I gather only work for some people lol

Generally people will tell you if it's a crashed ship, and quite often they will put down a base or comms beacon at the location.
That said if you avoid any really old posts, you should be able to find them at a trading posts otherwise.

I spent a while online last night looking around. I think I got the jist of how it works. I suppose one thing I'm still curious on is how long should it take to get an exotic ship? I spent maybe an hour last night reloading a quick save in a wealthy research economy space station and didn't get any

Exotics are approximately 1 out of every 301 ship spawns regardless of system

Best way is to go to a trade post on a planet and wait there. Ships come and go faster than at a space station, and potentially 7 ships at once instead of just 4

You can expect to wait for about an hour, assuming 7 ships/minute come and go at a trade post and ideal probability. You may get luckier, or unlucky

Also when you wait, don't park your ship on a landing pad. Park it nearby

Also a good way to farm for S class ships for scrapping

Has anyone noticed a ship trading glitch... specifically: In my Capital ship bay I exchanged an NPC for a similar type (hauler) and saw my old ship disappear. Then it was the next ship to enter my Capital ship and I was able to 'claim' it back from the NPC for free. Maybe not a glitch per se?

I think that's a freighter glitch rather than a trading glitch lol

I think you're right because functionally the trade process was fine. I took it as a sign as I was still a little attached to the old ship.

It's a well-known and exploitable mechanic. Some call it a glitch, but I believe it the result of an intentional choice HG made. Any time you exchange ships with an NPC buying it back costs nothing, on a Space Station you can exchange and run over to grab your ship back before they leave. The reason I say it's intentional is because there exists the possibility that a player could accidentally exchange a ship they'd put dozens of hours of work into with an NPC, and then not have the units to buy it back from them. Given the choice between leaving an easy exploitable mechanic in the game and having to deal with players who lose their favourite ships, HG made the smart choice, because players can choose not to use an exploit, but exchanging a ship accidentally and losing it not so much. One of these scenarios players complain about - the other would have players quitting the game and spreading bad publicity like wildfire.

I came to discord right after it happened for some insight, then went back to playing and noticed a HUD message confirming what you are saying. I think it's a good thing for the reasons you mentioned, and it makes sense. It's too bad players flame HG bc they find the game "difficult." I thought difficulty made games fun and rewarding. Sometimes you make mistakes, but you can get over them. I've accidently sold a few a few valuable things I didn't want to bc wasn't careful. Regardless, this ship thing doesn't bother me one bit and hopefully it helps someone who does need it. 👍

That's not how it works

Any ship model from the pool of 21 ship models for each system can spawn as S-class, if the economy tier is high enough (tier 2 or 3 economy)

Or if you're looking in outlaw systems (black market economy)

I doubt any ship spawns with full inventory size for given class / parts

You will need to purchase / install the missing slots itself

In general: go for looks, find the ship models that you like the designs of, then work your way to upgrade it

Because looks are the key factor we can not change

class chance is dependent on economy, t3 2%, t2 1%, outlaw 5%. also, looks most important, any ship can be upgraded in class, storage, etc. (yes, I know upgrades are expensive but it's sometimes faster than spending hours or days praying to the rng gods for a naturally occurring s-class. also you might get better stats by paying for an upgrade)

From my testing, you can only have 9 big landing pads on your base. However I since you are able to get more by using the alternative landing pads, you can have 19 total landing pads I believe. However, it doesn't seem that your base attracts more ships to it. I will keep testing, but it seems that trading outposts are the best way still

When playing the game, after a certain amount of warps you get a system freighter battle. A few more after and you get a captial freighter battle.

After those two main battles it's kind of random when you come across them.

If you're hunting freighters and you have done the main 2 battles. Spend some time, base building or whatever. After a couple hours start warping to different systems. Save at the space station each time. So you can reload. You only reload if the freighter battle has a freighter you don't like

Once you see a freighter you like, defeat the pirates.. Then go to the space station and exit yout ship for an autosave

Then you can board the freighter, check class with the scanner and if its not the class you like reload the autosave

A small venator isn't likely to cost 150mil

It's about 25-35 for a C class

150 mil is more like the prices for bigger capital freighters

You go to a system called xeta it spawns a dreadnought. You don't like said dreadnought.

So reload and you go to a system nearby called Beta, and that has a Venator.

You join, say me, when i come across a Venator you can buy it there and then, that's my point.

If you don't like it's class you can leave and renter the system to change its class as long as I'm sat in it.

You have to do the battle every time, but I think you can save when there's only one pirate left

And you can scan the freighter right after you land with your visor. No need to talk to the captain

Depends what you're after

Fighters are good for damage potential and manoeuvring.
Haulers for shields and cargo storage.
Explorers for hyperdrive range.
Shuttles for low balanced stats also very cheap
Exotics for allrounders.
Solar ships are fast and efficient
