short version: if all you have is the portal coordinates, use them to warp to the appropriate star system, then wait at the space station or any trade outpost in that star system.

If you are looking for a crashed ship, use the portal coordinates, then go to the right planet, then go to the coordinates on that planet

Use the pinned message with probabilities to guess how long you will need to wait for your specific ship. If you also want a specific class (ie A or S) you will probably need to wait awhile

Also keep in mind each system has a total of 21 different starships, split between shuttles, fighters, explorers, haulers, solar, and 1 exotic

Fighter got higher maneuverability and high dmg, hauler got larger cargo rooms and more shield.

They are telling you that's how those ships are different

Fighters get a damage bonus, haulers get a shield bonus and have a larger potential cargo inventory

All ships can max out to S 48/21/21 (42 cargo for haulers), excluding livings ships which needs glitching.

In general:
Fighters - best damage output
Haulers - best shields and highest cargo space
Explorers - best hyperjump range, low liftoff cost
Exotic - excellent balance all around
Solar - best maneuverability
Shuttle - worst at everything but dirt cheap

Living ship - cool factor, very high tech slots so great for black holes and galaxy jumping

I add them to my freighter as I think it can jump farther than normal ship warping too. I add them to jump the freighter really far if I want to get into another area of the galaxy

Ah you mean the range upgrades? The freighter has a longer range than an explorer, but it's not strictly necessary

I don't usually worry about the cadmium drive and all that in the freighter as I don't find I usually need to warp it into those systems. However, if I lived in one, I probably would load the necessary one

It's nice to have the upgrades though, since you can summon exocraft once you have the freighter upgrade to allow it

Question: Have you guys found a change in being able to find crashed ships with emergency signal charts? The last 15 or so I've purchased have only found abandoned buildings and crashed freighters. If they have made a change, what's the best way to find crashed ships now? I don't really need any new ships in my fleet but like trying to find storage augments from scrapping them and generally like scrapping things in this game anyway.

It's like 16% chance I think

I found out this too late, but if you want a better chance, use the minotaur sensor upgrade to find crashed ships instead

Crashed freighters are always worth checking out, something like 4% chance per pod for a storage augment, and with 6 pods those are good odds

gotcha. I'll check that out about the minotaur upgrade. I haven't put a lot of work into the minotaur but I'd like to. Really cool exocraft. I wonder if the Nautilon sensors work equally well at finding ships underwater.

I think the nautilon has good chances, but underwater navigation can be a pain

Can you sell ships to between players by the way?

Not directly / explicitly. But when one player in-group scraps their ship, the other player can pick it up from an NPC who magically shows next to the scrapped ship, showing it's available for trade. If the ship is not an exotic, the class you get likely won't be the same as the class that the ship was scrapped as. But that's how you're essentially able to get a ship from another player.

And for the record, the player who scrapped can quit the game after scrapping if they want to keep the ship ofc.

Probably a stupid question, but I just ran into an A-class sentinel freighter that I helped in battle. I’m thinking about buying it because idk how much longer it’ll take for me to get access to portal glyphs, but I know that when I do I’m going to fly out to these coordinates somebody found for a Venator ship.

Is there a way to retry a freighter combat event if it’s not a class I like? If I’m going out for a venator i want it to be S-class but idk if you could just keep trying it until it’s S or not

totally. and the A-class is fine too btw. if you don't want to farm it. biggest difference which some folks don't care about is: 1. freighter's inventory for general and tech (as in s-class offers biggest upgrade, the way it works with starships) and 2. base hyperdrive range can be a bit higher with s-class (but most folks don't care about this if they rarely warp with their freighter)

class will always be random, but class is also upgradeable, you can only go to systems that increase chance of finding a higher class if you can't afford to upgrade. the only ships with a guaranteed class are exotic/living ships which are always S

hazardous planet? you can watch from inside the depot to avoid damage, roof is just easier to see everything. also, you can use economy scanner in the atmosphere of a planet to specify where you want a depot, so pick planets carefully

You'll need to specify a ship type, make sure you click "true" under crashed and specify the galaxy you're looking in.

Don't click back while using the search, click on "search results" instead

After running your search and selecting a ship, you'll want to confirm the details on the right side of the results pane. Sometimes you'll need to reload on a certain planet, or in the space station, or even just in front of a downed ship in order to change aspects of the ship to match what's in the nmsce.com listing.

I'd say to try crashed ships first, because they're the surest bet. Non-crashed listings might require you to hang out at a station/trade post for awhile.

just wait until you max shield upgrades (up to 12 now with sentinel mods) on your exosuit, you basically become invincible to sentinels

I'd eliminate duplicate hazard protection mods, no need for more than one of each type since you need to keep them charged. all having multiples does is delay before recharging

I waste minimal space on hazards, more concerned with movement/shields/life-support

since hazard protection you can just recharge with an ion battery and I always carry them

the max storage is class dependent, doesn't matter how you get there

honestly you can end up with better stats by paying for upgrade since you get the max base stats, spawns in the wild can be better or worse within a negligible 10% variance

so tl:dr, pay for upgrades if you have the nanites, don't sweat finding s-class in the wild

because even if you do find one it's potentially worse stats than just paying for the upgrade. and in the end with upgrade mods the difference is negligible

let's say the base s-class shield strength is 150, you might find it 135-165 in the wild. with upgrades let's say the base 150 upgrades to 350 with modules. worst/best case scenario the found s-class will fall somewhere between 335-365 with modules... it's not important really

location within system doesn't matter, if you have the glyphs you have an equal chance of the ship appearing anywhere... but you'll see more ships more frequently at a trade depot

Yeah, ships can spawn anywhere within a given system, it's just easier to hunt for them at a location offering multiple landing pads

Statistically, if you are farming freighters for S class, the expected number of battles is < 50 for a t3 economy, < 100 for t2 economy, before it becomes bad luck
