I'm having troubles with the explorer guild quest. It says I have 5/16 standing but will not let me do level 5 explorer missions. Is there and easier way to do this one???

you just need to keep doing explorer guild missions, no matter the level. remember that you can "stack", start multiple missions of the same type (eg. kill sentinels/creatures) from multiple systems, and then do them all at once. if you can't see explorer guild missions/seeing lots of system race missions, just take a couple of the race you need (korvax standing is easily obtained via best friend's portrait from phase 1), and complete/turn them in asap. after you visit a few systems, you should have a decently sized list on your teleporter network, so if you need more missions you can just teleport around.

bit of a late reply, sorry. in case you still need this resource, there's a planet called Gijyotapor Akyus in rendezvous 4 system Loemfor, that has fauna that drops proto warm milk. if you visited the space station in rdv4, then just teleport back to it, and go from there.

@digital quartz and if you haven't completed the phase 5 ancestors milestone yet, you can go ahead and complete that one on the same planet too. you only need to collect bones, not keep them, so if you prefer to free up some slots.. or hold the most valuable ones to sell later in the space station for example.

btw, when you're on the planet looking for bones - it will still progress, but don't select the bones milestone (if you do, it will start defaulting your visor to target sweep mode), i find it quicker to find the burial sites with regular visor. if you don't see any, move around for a bit, if you still don't find some, get on your ship and fly away to another area of the planet.

mix the sweetened butter with an egg and some flour to get cake batter

Sorry if this is something brought up a lot, but I'm curious: I just landed on the planet where Rendezvous 2 is supposed to occur and it says I discovered it despite there being a good number of bases here and every other planet in the system being discovered by Hello Games. What's up with that? I definitely didn't get here first.

Sometimes the game doesn't load the discoveries of other people in your menu immediately (usually due to network/connection reasons) and it will temporarily say you are the one who discovered it, but it will revert that later to the person who actually discovered it whenever the server syncs the information to your game file. This has happened a lot to my gf, whenever she goes to systems I discovered it says she discovered it on her end but then changes later to say I discovered it like it should say

I managed to take a photo in one of the first systems I went to. I just ran/walked in circles throwing pellets on the ground and ended up with like 15 animals following me (also managed to capture like 4 more walking in the background) but I honestly can't remember what planet I was on

There’s a pet you get an egg for right off the bat, and it starts at 95% trust. That one just takes one day to get it to 100%

Questionably Sweet Cake is pretty easy to make.

Then mix the honey butter with an egg and refined flour (from heptaloid wheat) to get cake batter.

logically, the more different kinds, the more populated the planet would be

so just look for planets with "bountiful" fauna or something like that

also if you're having trouble finding enough animals, you can gather smaller groups together by throwing out a creature pellet from your quick menu

they'll follow you around for a while. I think they get distracted and leave after they poop

To find beetles: Go to Rendezvous 3 system Xandrov VIII, open the galaxy map and use the life form filter. 29LY away, there is a Vy’keen system called Obluch II which will be red with the filter enabled. They are on the planet named Igglet.

I'm on rendezvous 1 which is the most I've found in a spot. The thing is I'll be surrounded by like 12 or 14 of them or whatever but by the time I'm feeding the last ones the first ones are becoming unfed and dropping from the group

So I'm constantly dancing around 7

I'm glad I'm not the only one while I can't say glad I'm sorry other people are also struggling but it's nice not to be alone

these are some of the tips Bk's been putting together for that, in case it helps get more creatures in your picture:

Completing "take screenshot" milestones:

• play with the zoom level
• on ps: Hold the share button and press Triangle and share it to your activity feed, OR
• Change the share button setting from "press" to "hold" (or the other way around)

you can zoom out in photo mode so you can capture a wider angle and hopefully capture more creatures that are getting away too soon for you from your shot

they can be separate tbh. so that may help, separating both milestones as the goal. and make sure they're all ground creatures. the zoom option may help tons for the getting a pic of 10 in the same shot

yeah, sometimes it's weird with ODS connectivity. sometimes it could be a local network issue. restarting my router has helped sometimes. make sure that Online Discovery Services is showing "Active" in your Discoveries tab to confirm...

the other thing i should've mentioned, is make sure to collect milk and other things from them. they tend to follow you around more easily if you're both feeding them and collecting goods from them too. that's how it's easier to get them to group up for the photo. and use the Field of View, set it to the max, 150°. it'll make it a lot easier to get the photo milestone

his replies and reactions to each food item you give him are random, from 3 different tiers (average/good/excellent), so you may need to feed him the same kind of food a bunch of times (i had runs where he gave the "excellent" reply on the very first time, others that i needed to feed him 3, 4 times)

this recipe worked fine, if you completed best-laid plans and wild dairy from phase 3 you should have everything you need:

milk > cream > churned butter;
churned butter+processed sugar > sweetened butter;
sweetened butter+refined flour+(creature/tall/giant) egg > cake batter;

To find beetles: Go to Rendezvous 3 system Xandrov VIII, open the galaxy map and use the life form filter. 29LY away, there is a Vy’keen system called Obluch II which will be red with the filter enabled. They are on the planet named Igglet.

A S class scanning upgrade, that actually has a +fauna rewards mod, will boost rewards for scanning fauna by ~7000%. Of course, you are not guaranteed to get +fauna on every scanner upgrade, so do check.

Find a group of 10 animals, throw a pellet on the ground.
Tips:
Choose planets with high spawn density, such as Raymr or Joycer. Flat areas nearby buildings can facilitate this.
If trying to attract multiple smaller groups, player should not throw the pellet where the smaller groups are, but rather at a spot, that's both close enough to get their attention, but also to where the player wants to herd them in.

Cooking:
To impress Cronus, just cook any cake-batter based cake. After completing Best-Laid Plans and Wild Dairy from phase 3, you will have the needed ingredients to cook cream buns for example

@leaden gyro about cooking for Cronus, it's not the monetary value of the item that makes a difference. you can make for example delicious vegetable stew from fungal mould alone, multiple passes through the nutrient processor but no other ingreditnts for any complete recipe, 1 out of 3 times roughly you should get a wow reaction. https://nomanssky.fandom.com/wiki/Delicious_Vegetable_Stew

i basically just warped the expedition route: raddisk viii, itrunn, yubinka, xandrov, loemfor and epzinsk. last run i used maybe like.. 8 systems or so, so only like a few more in addition to the rdv systems? get 8 missions, complete, turn in, teleport and get 8 missions again, complete, turn in. another thing that i would suggest trying if you haven't already, is taking all/most of the missions from a specific system, no matter who they're for, and that should replace them with other missions, and this should eventually roll an explorer guild mission.

typical way to try to resolve glitches, especially those caused in-group and/or with MP enabled, is to reload your save, solo, with MP disabled. and select the milestone that you're trying to complete.

Uploaded an outpost for players at an early stop in the Expedition. I don't recall how close it is to Rdv 1, I just know its the same planet (I have mods, so the planet in the pic might be a different color from your game).
There's a fauna station for getting Fresh Milk from the goats (it might actually be Wild Milk, I'm tired and might have confused them 😅 ) and Creature Eggs from the stegosaurus as well as 4 Nutrient Processors in case you want to cook or store the eggs and milk in that inventory to free up exosuit slots.
Also, included an Antimatter Reactor so you can stock up on warp fuel.

any food item that requires a few passes of items through the nutrient processor is enough, the issue is that Cronus can decide something is great, good or bland randomly, so it's wise to have a few samples to give him to make that milestone.

It'll show in your Quick Menu, while flying in your starship.

And buy that ship there

Uhm so, I can't present the cake I made to the alien. It only gives me the options to present eggs, milk and flour or honey

So either clean out your inventory so you have only the cake for Cronus

(though it will take starship and freighter inventory into account as well)

That armor belongs on a specific slot for companions

And not all companions have that slot

no daily reset. you need to hold 5 of each of those types of milk

you can store types you already have 5 of in other inventories, but to complete the milestone all of them need to be on your exosuit, maybe in the same inventory, so storing them all on the ship might work, i haven't tested

can also keep them temporarily in your nutrient processor storage, if you have that unlocked

I had a very hard time with my pet, as I deleted my starter one at 95%. It took me a whole week and a day to get it from 75%...and at one point I got -3% because I was forced to take a call which lasted longer than it should so that was an extra day. 😂

Some youtuber claimed that raising pet trust only worked in space stations - but that's really not true.

My pet's trust went up consistently. I didn't keep him out most of the time either, just called upon him and fed and pat every now and then. Never heard of the space station thing.

My pet has consistently gone up 5% per day with about 60 seconds of being out - as long as I'm on a planet that is its natural biome. I'm done the expedition except for that, so I log over for my 5% and I'm back out 2 minutes later.

Rendezvous 1 - Pretty big structure, no problem getting to it. Rendezvous 2 - Literally can't land on it, and if you step outside you're hosed. Rendezvous 3 - Getting pretty meta with it, they have you land approximately half the planet away from the actual point and then you get a chorus of unholy metal screeching in your ear every few seconds as you desperately run and punch-jump your way across a planet which is, at best, a slideshow

imagining Rendezvous 4 is them just crashing the game on purpose and 5 is corrupting my save directly or something

ok I was joking but when I followed the pin to find Giant Eggs that weren't on the rendezvous 3 planet, I was idling in my ship, completely flat on the planet, tabbed out looking at the mods channel so I could find a way for the game to stop reminding me how to use my scanner to find creatures who produce eggs when I hear "SHIELD DOWN," tab back in, something destroyed my ship and then the game crashed. Hardest expedition ever.

Not sure if that's what happened this time since I didn't get to see anything by the time I tabbed back in, but it's alright. its not obvious to people that don't know it, but any station you stop at you (always) pick up any kill sentinels / creatures / predators missions... you can carry around loads of them...

then, just make a point of murdering lone sentinels before launching, or going on a kill spree after reaching the final rdv point. this approach got me to 14/16 at rdv v, so i just did 2 scan flora missions that I found to finish up.

^ This. If you're having a rough time getting it finished, it's worth your while to jump back to stations you visited on your way through and pick up those easy murder missions. Once you have a pile of them, go kill 15 animals and whatever the max sentinels is (10, I think?) and you're done.

if you are swimming around getting your 10 underwater fauna, and keep an eye on your scanner, there should be one nearby at some point. theyre not that uncommon

but the shorthand, like Jihiro said, is to look for something that has gold as a resource.

The real shorthand is to simply pay attention to planets that have flora, vs planets that dont.

planets with flora being the mega exotics, and the 7 base biome planets.
planets without flora are the exotics, dead worlds, and now volcanics - you dont need to see the gold to notice the lack of scrap metal or basalt.

any planet with high density spawns, like raymr on rdv1. careful with predatorial species, they kill the animals you're trying to get dung samples from, and scare the others away.

How do i get my companion to 100 trust?
Hes at 95, i induced an egg, its now ready to hatch.
When i hatch it, will that bring the compy to 100?

you can try, i wondered about that myself, but i still had 2h to go before i could hatch.

if not, just wait another 24h for another 5%

i've had him go 100% when laying the egg

but i did it like pat/feed/summon until 95%, induced egg at 95%, waited 24h, layed the egg+a couple more pats/pellets to full happiness/belly, and it went 100% trust

Finally finished this expedition. The explorer guild part was a bit of a grind, but I just visited a bunch of mission agents and only took the "kill sentinal" and "kill creature" missions, which stack.

Sorry I don't have the coords, but I did get a nice royal that showed up in one of the space stations. Yeah, my starting ship was lame. Luckily I was soon able to claim the Golden Vector from Exp #1.

if by any chance you're referring to this milestone, just complete Ancestors, the milestone before it, then craft the deep space lure item, go to space, use item from your inventory, then pulse until hailed

Also, how much bigger can you make it and about how much of a resource should I apply in the genetic manipulator thing? Is there a good tutorial someone has made?

my rendezvous point 2 seems to be really deep underground underneath really tall mountains. no matter what angle i dig at it from, i always hit bedrock before i get to the rendezvous point. am i missing something?

@urban fox the initial marker is just at a 'nearby' spot. after landing you need to use your visor (target sweep mode) to hone in on the exact location

you find a flying creature you can get close enough to interact with to feed. and if it gets a fed icon, you can interact again, and maybe select ride

In my experience to tame and ride a flying creautre is to acutally stay with your character on the ground and look up to the animal

And interact with them that way

I had problems trying to catch them while flying with jetpack

i landed on a moon near rdv-5 that had giant beetles on it. so they had a rather long range at which they would get harassed and fly away.

collecting the craw milk and trying to fly one was well annoying.

Cake is the tip that the quest gives, but it didn't work for me. I made "Iced Screams" you just need some Frozen Tubers and a Hypnotic Eye from an Abyssal Horror. Gave me max Nanites first try

The whole point of expedition mode is that is a limited time event with exclusive rewards

Maybe later in the year HG will do a rerun of the expeditions like they did in 2021 but we don't have any info on this yet

Yeah my 10+ hours did not include any optimizations / guides, it was pretty much a blind run

i haven't really pushed for the speed run tbh, i might do that later - there's some parts which can be further tweaked, not spending time in photo mode, etc

the explorer guild missions are the most important to get going, for example exp gives you korvax standing/sets raddisk to korvax, and rdv1 is at a gek planetary archive (so hold some cash to buy gek relics to offer npcs for explorer guild mission on rdv1 station)

wingspan can be done at the same time as gathering bones; highly recommend using a butterfly for this
