try different star systems, as each system has 21 different ship designs that it uses for NPCs and crash sites

Also:
Vy'keen systems have more Fighter designs
Gek systems have more Hauler designs
Korvax systems have more Explorer designs
and Outlaw systems have more Solar ship designs, or at least more frequent solar ships by like 6x

also i realized that living ships tend to use the planets fauna palette for colouring, if its nonexistant it tends to be in the colour of the soil/flora

i got this on a planet where there are plants with pure white colour, despite fauna being there so i think the priority is fauna > flora > soil

or like odds of getting it

my main ship is black/red and i got it on exotic planet with ona creature being red coloured, then i found on the same planet some more red ones but also got green (soil colour)

If you're in a system that can spawn an S class (according to the posted chart), you can hit the harmonic camp until you find one. The ship will always be the same style in the same system, of course.

You eventually get a quest for your first living ship iirc. I don't remember the details, though

the living ship thing is pretty long, I think you have to get like 3200 quicksilver from doing daily quests in the hub area, then you have to get a hyperspace event that starts a questline to begin the multi-day questline to make the ship.

If you obtain a void egg for 3200 quicksilver you get a really long quest but at the end get one of the best looking ship types in my opinion

I can't remember if you get a quest to go do this or not but fixing up || interceptors|| on ||dissonant planets|| can get you some pretty cool and high quality ships, and all the materials to both find and fix the ships can be found on any|| dissonant planet||. They're worth a good bit of money too if you're trying to make legit money without having to make something like a stasis farm.

they're rare. also, 1 in 20 exotics are squids, and each system only has one exotic design. so if you see an exotic in a system and it isn't a squid, that system can't have one.

When you pulse with them in your inventory, it should make the encounter happen that locates a living ship for you, though you may want to discard any extra pieces from the Starbirth mission, including the "Cracking Void Egg" etc, only keep the ones exclusively called "Void Egg"

Yooo guys did I screw something up? I’m new to the game and had my first freighter encounter rescue mission. I know of the save point trick. So I found a class I wanted the style. I accidentally got out at the space station thinking I could keep resetting the ship to get a better class but then when it finally was an A class it said I had to buy it ?!?!

If you tried reloading to the station you landed on after the battle then the freighter you rescued despawned and the one you can buy is a system freighter that just spawned

To reroll class of the freighter from the rescue you have to save before warping and then reload back to that save and repeat the battle

Freighter from the rescue event will be free if you dont own a freighter already

System freighters which just spawn normally aren't free even if you dont have a freighter

You could unlock all expedition rewards in the quicksilver vendor by overwriting your save file with someone else's save file who have done the expedition. Game itself is still vanilla, you are simply getting the ships n cosmetics.

To get a staff, the echoes questline must be progressed.

Your first staff will be assembled during the echoes questline, where three parts (concentric transducer, atlantideum chamber, and the fiberglass grip) are unlocked as blueprints one by one.

Only the parts unlocked during the quest are craftable as blueprints, the rest are bought from autophage synthesis terminals or harmonic camp terminals for void motes, gotten from doing missions for the autophage.

Basically you wanna check all reactor classes. I've only been swapping cockpit and wings, while keeping the reactor S class. But if you find a good combo with C you can just upgrade the ship later

But really the best thing is to check as many combinations as possible

Gather all the cockpits, wings, thrusters you like

And try every combination of them within the station

Then move onto the next station and try it again

The crash site I found upgrades to a 2+2 arrangement which is nice as heck (-20.50 -109.82)

I have noticed that the supercharged slots you gained after upgrading the same fabricated starship is fixed regardless of space station (I marked those with red squares in the screenshots, and the number is the order that they appear when you upgrade the ship (C > B > A > S)).
You can check the supercharged slot gained after upgrade by fabricating a C class ship then upgrading it to S class, if those additional supercharged slots do not have potential to form the layout you want, you should ignore the lower class reactors, only use A/S class reactor and pray RNGesus.
In my screenshot I noticed that the first two slots (order is important I think) that appear after upgrading can form a square layout, so I will also check the B reactor and ignore the C class reactor completely.

There are also edge cases that I have to check manually

Hm... so the thing is that you want to priotize what's called "large inventory" for your first ship upgrade, at least imo.

For Fighters, that means having Hardframe Wings.

Aside from base weapon which is unique, its basically another variant of photon cannon, and uses normal modules

Go to dissonant planets, find an echo locator, go to the camp and locate the dissonance spike. Sounds complicated but people on here have provided guides or there are lots of video guides on YouTube.

It used to be a rule that you HAD to include the galaxy when posting a ship for the intention of people finding it, until admin changed the rules for whatever reason. I think its just good practice to list the galaxy. I wont even entertain looking at any ship that is posted without a galaxy.

Ye I know about various parts being different, but what I'm trying to figure out is if an identical ship (hypothetically) in terms of parts can be a different size

Using this an an example, it's a trash ship so location isn't important. However, I'm nearly positive that I've seen other ships with this fairly common part build in larger variations

Just colour etc varies like the antenna things or something else no two ships are identical

Reload restore point after all ships land

Or could sit there instead that's cool too, depends on your loading times when you restore

But exotics may take a long time to show up because of their low spawn chance

Personally what I like to do though is... jetpack up on top of the trade post itself. Stand on the highest point and wait for an autosave to happen. Then just reload the autosave everytime.
It gives you a nice view of all the landing pads, and the autosave puts you up there everytime

Oh gotcha. When you say after all ships land, you mean one per slot or is it more like just the first volley

It's always either 4 or 5 that will land

When you reload, they all spawn together,

So they tend to land in short times of each other

I relate to this though because, many years ago my first times playing nms, the first capital freighter I encountered and claimed was the really long sentinel one, and it was freaking... black with gold accents. It looked so good, and I got so lucky early on

I've got a few screenshots that has that dot in exactly the same place regardless of if I'm landed on a planet or flying in space. May be a platform specific thing (I'm on Xbox series X), can't say for sure but for me it's always there

Your first freighter will always be free, and if you get the pirate ones those are also free
