Initial Setup

-# Freighter Battle Requirement: You must have played 3 hours (cumulative), and have done 5 ship warps since the last battle.

Before the battle requirement is met, always exit your ship to update the restore point save slot before ship warping out to another system. Once the requirement is met, continue as follows:

• If using glyphs, reach the target galaxy and portal to your desired system. Then warp out to a nearby uncharted system, drop and claim a base computer.
  • -# The step above ensures that when the battle triggers in some random system, you can always: 1) reload restore point, 2) teleport to claimed base computer, 3) exit ship once more to update restore point and 4) ship warp out to your target glyphs system nearby.
• A freighter battle should trigger, and you will fly towards the capital ship. Upon getting close to the freighter, the game informs you how many hostile pirates are present. See example »
  • With 5 pirates, proceed to battle.
  • With 8, the exotic may not spawn, so it is recommended that you try a different system.
• You may reload the restore point to search for different exotic designs through many systems, until you find a system that only has 5 pirates and the exotic design you want.
• Once you decide that you want to get the current system's exotic, try either method below.

Method 1

Rescue the NPC freighter and dock with it. You should see the ships heading towards it as well, and the exotic will land shortly thereafter. You can reload restore point and re-warp back into the same system and redo the battle to respawn / re-roll the exotic's stats.

Method 2

-# ⚠️ Use this method only if you're certain you'll have enough units to get the ship, as the exiting ship in the space station will overwrite the restore point save slot, removing the ability to reload to the previous system and redo the battle if you need to for some reason. Exotics go for about 40M units.

• Toggle through the friendly ships to find which one is the exotic. As in you must visually identify it as seen in this example.
• Kill the pirate the exotic is focused on. Kill each pirate the exotic is focused on. If the exotic doesn't go after another pirate, follow it to the space station.
• Once the exotic is close to the station, land in the station. The exotic may fly a couple rounds around the station. Then whenever the exotic flies in, buy it.

no worries, we've all been there too...i recommend completing the Artemis path, which will unlock the 16 glyphs you need to portal to crash site locations

then, you can use the glyph exchange and find crashed exotics

Exotics land at every system where there is a space station, it's just a matter of waiting, sometimes a long, long time. They have less than half a percent spawn rate.

Unless you are lucky enough as Cyrano said to find a crashed site with one....

Waiting is not something that we can help with.

All we can do is direct you possibly to a specific design if you have portals unlocked

It is indeed, able to take up to four days with your first one. But after that it’s a piece of cake, cause when you get another egg after that, another host will infiltrate your comms, and you can pay 10,000 nanites for a fully repaired ship, according to my knowledge

Also does require special organic tech, acquired through Psionic Eggs occasionally acquired from expeditions harbouring a Living Frigate.

Very grindy, but a fun timeshedder, with incredible payoff

the dream aerial is an angle i've been considering pursuing...plan is to replace some of my frigates with living frigates to see how that plays out

Living frigates are really nice to have, but you can only use the dream aerial for one and then the quest is gone, after that you need anomaly detectors

So go make some space rock Swiss cheese beforehand if ya wanna find more

I’m trying to find an exotic in abandoned mode. I’ve been going from planet to planet with the Minotaur in tow, scanning and finding ships on each one (usually 4-5) before it won’t find anymore.
Once I’ve done that on every planet in the system, I move on to the next system.

My question is, would there be a better way to do it? I only ever seem to find the same 5 or 6 ship models in each system, with rare exceptions. A ton of repeats, but I don’t think they’re the literal same ship each time.

good question. i don't know of a different land-based method let alone what the odds are of finding a crashed exotic. my guess is it's the same as trying to find a non-crashed version set at less than 1% of the time an exotic shows up?

There’s a method that involves getting into a freighter battle upon warping into a new system, seeing if a friendly exotic is in the dogfight, and then landing at the station afterwards to wait for it

Otherwise you sit at a trade station and reload after each wave of approaching ships until one both shows up and lands

Both you’re gonna want to have 40+ mil in your pocket

no worries, the ingame picture-taking tool will enable the glyphs to show up. just open up the tool and frame the shot you want, the glyphs should be in the bottom left corner of the screen. snap your picture with either the ingame tool, or another app

IIRC theres a fee to build them tho right? Is it very expensive for S-class?

there is no fee per se, you need parts to assemble a ship: 3 body parts (usually cockpit, wings and thruster) and the reactor core

You get ship parts from scrapping existing ships (can be purchased or crashed ones)

You get reactor core from buying it from ship tech vendors or as rewards for local / Nexus missions

So there are options to assemble a ship without spending units (money)

Find a pirate system that has a pirate freighter battle every time you warp in, then you complete the battle and have 2 freighters to choose from. I have gotten an S class pirate freighter twice that way and see a fair number of S class regular freighters as well.

If I remember correctly, the broken Autophage isn't really related to the recovery of the ship. It's just color. Interacting with the ship itself is how to get going.

This is a small puzzle. Numbers are a binary code. Each number is a letter. Gather and decode letters to get lore message

Interact with the sentinel ship.
Take all 3 items from the ship and put them in your inventory. One of them will be a red item -- a "brain". Interact with that in your inventory.

(In order to activate the brain, you need to have 1 Inverted Mirror and 3 Radiant Shards in your inventory. If you don't have those items, then interacting with the brain will add some waypoints for you to the nearest radiant shards/inverted mirrors, using your scanner.)

Once you successfully use the brain, it does a big scan and gives you a new waypoint to go to an alien monolith.
Go there and interact with the monolith to repair the brain. (If you're in a Korvax system, don't do any "purple" things while at the monolith until *after * you've repaired the brain there. You'll know what I mean if you see purple, which you'll only see if it's a Korvax monolith.)

Once the brain turns blue in your inventory, make sure your quest Log still has the ship repair quest selected, and it will lead you back to the downed sentinel ship. Put the brain in the ship, and it is now ready to be claimed. (Don't forget to claim it!)

Tell me this is normal. S-Class Pirate dreadnought farming. I have the event triggered in 2 systems right next to each other. One pirate system and one 3-star high conflict system, which I understand have a 5% and 2% spawn rate respectively. I can clear the event and scan the ship in about 90 seconds, then fly off the other system. Back and forth. I've been doing this for nearly 6 hours total. Am I doing something wrong?

Lots of freighters are just that, large haulers. I think there are three types of non-pirate Dreadnaughts. Sentinel, Venator and some other one. Pirate Dreadnaught is a beast in and of itself.

The funny thing about your squadron being all exotics is you end up doing a double take each time they flyby during battle and think, is that mine or is that a natural spawn? Then you see the orange trail and remember it’s yours! 😜

Fwiw, I’ve found that upgrading from an A to S is often an easier path to progression and enjoyment than waiting for the elusive natural S spawn.

The AI fragment is just another method to locating crashed interceptors. The one advantage I see is with the fragment you aren’t tied to a physical location/reliant on a terminal to locate the ship. You do however have to use up the resource to get the ship, while the camp you can keep reusing without resource depletion.

I only found out how easy it is to grind nanites on dissident planets a couple of days ago by refining the mirrors, took my pilgrim out for a spin and got about 3k worth fairly quickly

The Royal Type-7 Exotic I acquired yesterday

Exotics have a low spawn rate of 0.33% or less than half a percent in all systems they spawn in, that is why they are "rare" to spawn

"Some" people say low danger systems better, cause waves supposedly spawn faster, but Im not sure there is any data to prove one way or other

I just know, Ive no issues finding exotics in any system which is inhabited

I know a few years ago there was a "Myth" and I suppose there still is by certain people on youtube who say that 3* economies are better cause S class ships have a 2% chance of spawning.....which is true. However, exotics eventhough they are S class dont have the same spawn rules as fighters, haulers, explorers and solars, as far as I can tell at least.

For example, S class ships of Fighter, Haulers, etc have virtually no chance of spawning in a 1* system. However, give me the glyph address of any 1 star system, and I will show the exotic that spawns there

Although Im yet to find a system where the solar ship has overridden the exotic, but I suppose the ratio of exotics Ive found to how many systems there are, is very small

The one thing I haven’t fully understood yet is the math behind the exotics that spawn reliably in a first wave. I’ve seen YT videos of stations that have this condition and I’ve been to those to see for myself. Having experienced this, I’m still in the dark on those edge cases!

Yes, from my experience, my theory is that at space stations, there is a loosly set sequence of ship spawns, a bit like the sequence for upgrade seeds. That starts on wave 1 in the sequence. However for most exotics, you dont know where in the sequence it will spawn. If you are lucky, you find a system where it spawns in the 1st 3 waves. Even if it takes 40min, it usually always takes around 40min to come at the station.

Outside of the station, such as pulse freighter method and reloading at trading outposts, it seems totally random when the exotic spawns

Again this is my own personal theory, its just based on my experience in general, in the past (2years ago) searching for 1st wave exotics

i havnt searched for 1st waves for a couple of years so this may be obsolete

The problem is at stations, waves of ships tend to stop at the slightest thing, so when you reload, you restart at wave 1 in the sequence

which is why i would say, when you go to a system, reload at station, check say 5min then move to trade outpost

The theory makes sense seeing that it is based on a system that is at the core of other parts of the game. It’s economical to apply the logic of a system across multiple features. Following that line of thinking, it is indeed pure luck to find a system where the exotic spawns in the first few waves reliably. I’m tempted to return to a few systems that I got a first wave exotic just prove that the theory is sound!

To be a true 1st wave, you have to reload and test it multiple times. More often than not, even if not a true 1st wave, it might spawn 7 out 10 times in 1st 3 waves

1st wave is more useful for you and others not on pc/steam. When I discovered freighter battle method, I stopped looking for 1st waves as in general, i had a 50/50 chance of getting a guarenteed exotic spawn

Yes, the freighter battle method is truly remarkable in that it actually works (though sadly I’ve discovered not on Mac)
I’ve been using the freighter warp in method and so far the ratio of spawning has been fairly low.

My routine for ship hunting used to be:

1. Enter System and dock at station.
2. Check Multitools for S class Box
3. Reload and check for 1st wave spawn
4. Find and record the Sentinel ship in system if any
5. Go to trade outpost and spend 20min or so there and see what ships come in
6. Warp to next system

Its the same as reload, however its about how fast you can check waves of ships and how long to get a new wave. This is all the reload and pulse method does

they just shorten the period between waves

Pulse for 4 second then summon, so you getting a wave of ships every say 10 seconds

Reload method, just depends on system speed to reload game, however long that takes. My ps5 for example seems to take 3x longer than my laptop

Mine has a quick wd black 850x ssd in it, and for some reason takes a lot longer than my laptop

but if you are on a ps4 with a mechanical hdd, reloading method might not be viable

The MacBook Pro has a very decent ssd setup and reloads are pretty quick

Sometimes its just to mix things up, do reload method for 10min, then maybe pulse freighter mthod for 10min, then maybe sit at trade centre with no reload for 10min

as obviously doing same thing gets grindy
