Is it a possibility that HG would ever make ships more.. visually customizable? Not that I dislike them over all now.. just a curious thought with how some things are already.. each ship has a large variety of variant pieces depending on what you come across.

Can definitely be optimised by placing modules in a square/rectangle from the core tech so you benefit from adjacency bonus.

supercharging core modules like the photon cannon and shield offer more as apposed to Supercharging the modules first.

Yes, land next to the outpost without using a landing pad, go to the outpost and place a save beacon/point, wait for 5 ships to land then reload

Alternative Exotic Farming methods outside the 3 hour Freighter Battle method.

The following methods, do no guarantee an exotic every time but involves doing some work, but in general speeds up the spawning process so you see more ships in a time period.

1. Freighter Method.

To do this method, you need to have unlocked the use of a freighter, it can be any class of freighter. To get the best results you should only own 1 starship, this leaves the maximum amount of landing pads in your freighter for ships to land on.

a. Use 1st person mode on ship.
b. Pulse for about 4 seconds then exit pulse and immediately call freighter in.
c. NPC will shortly spawn in space around your freighter, using the left and right on D pad or "," and "." on keyboard, look for an exotic amongst them. If there is no exotic pulse again for another 4 seconds and rinse and repeat.
d. When you see the exotic on your scanner, follow the ship. It will if lucky dock at the Freighter, where you can buy it, or it may go to the nearest planet and dock at a Trade Outpost. If it doesn't dock at the freighter, it may take quite a while to get to the trade outpost, so it depends on how much you want the exotic.

Setting up:

• Meet the time requirement to encounter a freighter rescue battle (3 hours of playtime and 5 ship warps since the last battle). Until then, always exit ship to update restore point slot before ship warping out to another system.

• If using glyphs, reach the target galaxy and portal to your desired system. Then warp out to a nearby uncharted system, drop and claim a base computer.

Doing the above ensures that when the battle triggers in some random system, you can always reload restore point, teleport to claimed base computer, exit ship once more to update restore point and ship warp out to your target glyphs system nearby.

• A freighter battle should trigger and you will fly towards the capital ship. Upon getting close to the freighter, the game will inform you how many attackers (pirates) are present (see image link »). If there are 5, proceed. If there are 8 attackers, the exotic won't always spawn, so it is recommended you try a different system.

• You can reload restore point to search for different exotic designs through many systems, until you find a system that has both 5 attackers and the exotic design you want.

Once you decide that you want to get the current system's exotic, you have two methods you can try:

Method 1:
• Rescue the npc freighter and dock with it. You should see the ships heading towards it as well and the exotic will land shortly thereafter. You can reload restore point and rewarp back into the same system and redo the battle to respawn/reroll exotic stats.

Method 2:
• Note: Only use this method if you're certain that you'll have the units to get the ship, as exiting ship in space station will overwrite restore point save slot, removing the ability to reload to the previous system and redo the battle if you need to for some reason. Exotics go for about 40M units.

• Toggle through the friendly ships to find which one is the exotic. You will have to find the exotic by actually seeing it. (see image link »)

• Kill the pirate the exotic is focused on. Kill each pirate the exotic is focused on. If the exotic doesn't go after another pirate, follow it to the space station.

• Once the exotic is close to the station, land in the station. The exotic may fly a couple rounds around the station. Then whenever the exotic flies in, buy it.

Not sure if changed since pirate freighters came out, but I used to despawn the freighter, so no fighting needed and just dock at station, where exotic land

and if you are after a specific system exotic, you can get battle, reload to on planet before you entered system, portal to the system you want. Warp to an uncharted system, such as a red star system, then warp into wanted system to trigger the battle

problem with freighter battle system, you can only do when a battle is triggered (every 3 hrs or so), you can reload as many times as you want in previous system and pick a different system to see what exotic it is

You can teleport yes, the important thing is to warp out to an uncharted system, as battles dont trigger in uncharted systems, then warp back to system you want to trigger battle

Just keep hitting that planet for an S class... That's what I do... I put a marker at the camp, then keep checking for dissonance spikes until I find an S class... They will all look the same, so see one, seen them all... If I don't like them, I move to the next system... Rinse & repeat...

Saw this small blue fighter at a trading post. The system is a sustainable economy, so S class is less likely to spawn, but if you like small fighters the glyphs are at the bottom of the image.

No it’s easy to understand and if I could take a guess, you with the right intentions decided to check a discovery did so under the assumption that those glyphs would only work in one galaxy, which you found out they worked but didn’t factor in that they would likely work in all 256, with the glyphs working you decided it was in fact Euclid and didn’t check the actual ship crash site, you just assumed the glyphs were correct. Your heart was in the right place, then when questioned about the validity of it you claim victim.

Now if I’m totally incorrect then I apologise but if I am then I have no idea the thought train that was chugging along on its track.

At the end of the day this is a pointless argument about a pointless thing, so I dare say we could leave this here, no?

Setting up:

• Meet the time requirement to encounter a freighter rescue battle (3 hours of playtime and 5 ship warps since the last battle). Until then, always exit ship to update restore point slot before ship warping out to another system.

• If using glyphs, reach the target galaxy and portal to your desired system. Then warp out to a nearby uncharted system, drop and claim a base computer.

Doing the above ensures that when the battle triggers in some random system, you can always reload restore point, teleport to claimed base computer, exit ship once more to update restore point and ship warp out to your target glyphs system nearby.

• A freighter battle should trigger and you will fly towards the capital ship. Upon getting close to the freighter, the game will inform you how many attackers (pirates) are present (see image link »). If there are 5, proceed. If there are 8 attackers, the exotic won't always spawn, so it is recommended you try a different system.

• You can reload restore point to search for different exotic designs through many systems, until you find a system that has both 5 attackers and the exotic design you want.

Once you decide that you want to get the current system's exotic, you have two methods you can try:

Method 1:
• Rescue the npc freighter and dock with it. You should see the ships heading towards it as well and the exotic will land shortly thereafter. You can reload restore point and rewarp back into the same system and redo the battle to respawn/reroll exotic stats.

Method 2:
• Note: Only use this method if you're certain that you'll have the units to get the ship, as exiting ship in space station will overwrite restore point save slot, removing the ability to reload to the previous system and redo the battle if you need to for some reason. Exotics go for about 40M units.

• Toggle through the friendly ships to find which one is the exotic. You will have to find the exotic by actually seeing it. (see image link »)

• Kill the pirate the exotic is focused on. Kill each pirate the exotic is focused on. If the exotic doesn't go after another pirate, follow it to the space station.

• Once the exotic is close to the station, land in the station. The exotic may fly a couple rounds around the station. Then whenever the exotic flies in, buy it.

I think i might test it out though tomorrow, freighter battle way, since dread patch and ill test dread battles too. I know pre dreads, I just used to despawn freighter, so all enemy ships just disappeared, and I just used to wait until exotic docked. No risk of exotic getting blown up that way

And it used to be faster, as didnt have to do fight each time. Used to use target scanner in space to target exotic, fly over and see what it was.

Don't know if it still works though

But battle method, I used to be able to get an exotic every 10min to 15min

I used to find 1st person cockpit view easier as there is a 3d model of targeted ship on screen, so I just used to swap target till I saw exotic 3d model, and go over to it.

I've never ever seen an exotic in a 8 enemy ship spawn either, so I just reload if its 1 of those

question for the living ships : to acquire a secondary living ship, already own an egg, can I just accept the living ship encounter, warp to desired system using glyphs, then use the option to relocate mission in said system to use the system living ship there?

You don’t need to make it that complicated. You can just warp to that system and wait to encounter the Host in space

Yer, dont get me wrong, when I was new I did same, but when solar ships came out, I found a solar I really liked and used over multiple saves. Since then I just find my own, whatever ship type it is

Cause that's it, if you find a ship, you really like, you can just get glyphs at start on a new save, and get the ship you like

The answer:

Pulse in space, call freighter in, npcs spawn, check if any are exotic, if not pulse again for 4 seconds until exotic spawn. When it spawns, if you only have 1 ship, it would usually dock onto freighter.

Technically, you can do it nearly as well by simply summoning ships on deck to a nearby planet, and just pulsing away and back to freighter.

(The option for those of us who dont care to keep a scouting save with 11 empty ship slots, lol)

It's because the hangar modules are stored separately from the rest of the freighter, and they can be changed, via save editing home seed, for those who have the option.

By clicking the Freighter tab in a save editor, and changing whats in the box labelled "Home Seed"

Check pins in #nms-modding , those should have everything you need

@weak prism you also have to have the Trace of Metal and Atlas Path missions completed or it won't work. Took me hours before I figured this out.

@primal hill Not sure if this was said but I just got that frieghter 2 weeks ago and it was a pain. What I didn't realize is you also... before the 3 hours and 5 warps, must complete the Trace of Metal and Atlas Path missions or it will never trigger the battle with the Venator freighter on the 5th warp. Hope that helps!

Well I couldn't get that specific freighter to spawn in that specific system until I completed both of them. When I did complete those missions... boom, there was the battle I was looking for. Then I just kept doing rerolls until the class S showed up. Took about 25 C classes before that S class showed up. I wouldn't make something up or lie about it! 😆Just trying to offer help. It worked for me. I also followed Hero2u on YouTube for advise and scanned the comments for additional help. I also, after completing the missions, would trigger the battle at every single warp. So I had to disable space conflict in settings, warp, remove space conflict after warping, then save at space station, the start the process over. At my 5th warp I made sure to leave space conflict on and made the warp to the correct system and everything finally fell into place. It was a grind but I finally got it. PSVR2 is what I play on.

Most ship hunting is exactly that, hunting. In general a person sits at a station or trade outpost and waits to see if anything interesting comes in. Then swap system after a while and see what that system gives you. As you can imagine this can take many hours in general looking at ships, but some enjoy doing it for hours on end. Interceptors are different of course but the searching manually system to system still counts.

Normally what I’ll do is I’ll go to a system check the interceptor, check one or two living ships, and then sit at a trade outpost for about a half an hour. I find ship hunting pretty relaxing.

Basically different star ratings of system have a higher or lower chance of a higher class of ship. Basically the higher the star rating, the higher the chance (still small) to find a higher class. Depending on ship, it can be quicker to grind the nanites to upgrade a c or b class

Find a good ship by typing in keywords on the NMSGlyphExchange, find something you like and hop portal. Then use economy scanner and wait at Trading outpost, it has more landing pads the space stations. Or you could make a base just filled with dozens and dozens of landing pads but I’m not sure that increases chances

Maybe you entered system in online mode then turned it off, then you have to wait for it to repsawn. Alternatively it could be that its flown off, if someone has put landing pads nearby.

I don’t know, I warped into the system and the fleet was being attacked by pirates. I believe this style of freighter will be one of the consistent ones in the system, but don’t take my word on it because I don’t know a lot about this. There are others here who are more knowledgeable about this sort of thing.

You want C-class frigates with like less than 5 expeditions because you can level them to be stronger than any S-class you find, but only if you want to put in that effort

As far as I'm aware, any crashed ship can be s class, just as any non crashed ship can be s class. I think the chance of being an s class is the same for crashed and non crashed versions.

The problem with finding crashed versions, they take a lot more time and effort to find than non crashed versions, so not many people actively search for crashed versions.

True, however incomplete, as there's no mention that any ship actually only applies to T2 economies and up, because the sole S Class wrecks in T1/Abandoned systems are Exotics. 🙂

If Im ship hunting at station, or trade outpost, I generally sit around for 20 to 30 min or so, then move to next system. Some ships even regular non exotic ships, sometimes seem to have rarer spawns such as shield baller haulers and Gull winged haulers or solar ships in non outlaw systems

So I discovered something interesting tonight… I got it into my head that I wanted to make my whole squadron have living ships… So obviously I have to find normal S class ships, then swop it out, and then recruit the guy… I did just that… But, to my surprise, a few seconds later, a living ship (my living ship) landed at the trading post… So I went over, and swopped back the ship I just got, and got my living ship back… Did this 3 times now - my squadron will all have the exact same living ship…

But only works once per system, and it does not work with exotics…

Oh, I also tried buying it back, not exchanging, to see if another one would come by… But no…
