Doing the artimes quest line and then jumping to 16 different systems will earn you the 16 glyphs.

So I was watching living ship videos and some say you upgrade the ship by pulsing around and randomly finding pods to shoot. More recent ones say you get upgrades from sending out living frigates.

Are both accurate and valid to do still or only living frigates can find them?

A large amount of it was from getting crazy luck with suspicious maneuverability speed upgrades, then I glitched a vesper sail on it. This ship has 4 sc slots all beside each other. Also there are also a bit buffs you can get by having the polo bobblebead and some kind of starship trail

After that I just modded extra sc slots on the other parts of the ship

That ship is kinda just my crazy ship, I don't use it a lot bc it doesn't feel right 💀

There is one gold plated ship that was from an expedition, a limited time event where you do a sort of mini-campaign on a new save and unlock account wide rewards. Most other ships can come in various colors, so it comes down to keeping your eyes open, or you can search this thread and online resources to find ships with interesting colors. There are also a few special types of ships that may act as better show pieces, though aesthetic taste are unique.

You have the single exotic ship design in each system, commonly being the black sphere with the gold or silver trim and ornate design, with this model being rarely replaced with a squid ship.
Living ships are the ones with sometimes very colorful and animated patterns, and come in a large number of styles, definitely look into those if you want something unique looking.
Solar ships are found in outlaw systems, with animated solar sails that give them a unique appearance and they're also a nice, piratical ship with their vesper sails.
And interceptors, the very robotic looking ships you can see many posted of in this channel recently.

So depending on what you want design wise, there are a lot of options.

The one on the left is the one I found. I have had this issue with other freighter's as well where the colors are messed up for some reason and it's never the image I find on reddit.

Changing the color after buying it doesnt change it either cause the hanger still has the ugly green look

The only thing I've found regarding this is called "Green patina misery". Something to do with the ships just having the raw metallic look.

It's not only this as well, I tried going to other systems to see if this is an issue and pretty much all the freighter's I have found have this issue.

If you've ever ported into a system to find a freighter being attacked by pirates, you can claim that one for free if it is your first one. After your first encounter like this, which will spawn a standard system freighter, all other encounters will feature a system freighter, which are bigger and more dramatic looking. After you claim your first for free from this event, you will have to buy another if you want to change freighters. Aside from that event, when you're in a system and a fleet of ships jump in, one of them will have a marker on it and you can dock on it, and can go to the bridge to see the captain to look at the ships stats and ask to buy it.

Grabbing a freighter and transiting to a system with better lighting to take screenshots is beyond even my limits for meticulous tech scouting lol.

It's the current Unicorn champion - early joke from CS Hub, when we were figuring out just how restrictive colour selections are for ships. They roll Primary + Secondary Paint, Undercoat, Decal1, and Decal 2; across those 5, Primary can be identical to Decal 2 - any other double selection in procgen will force 1 of the 2 selections to shift by 1 on the palette.

And yes, there's an extreme edge case where the dice fall and Decal 1 (which for some crazy reason has highest priority) will cause 1 colour to shift to the same thing as the 3rd colour, causing a cascade where the bot result gets every colour except Decal 1 wrong lol

You can't really trade per se, but you can both meet up in a Space Station for example, wait for an NPC. Then you can trade your Guppy with the NPC's ship, then the other person can grab that guppy from the NPC for free. You can then load from a previous save to get your guppy back and you will both have the ship.

I like to just show up to a corrupt system and pop an AI fragment rather than just land and look for one and then do all those steps. Also The Harmonic camp will only send you to the same ship over and over since there is one only ever 1 interceptor seed per corrupt planet.

But yeah in the end the ship can be found either way. With camps you also get other loot and maybe a cool multi tool. I just like to fight a bunch of interceptors for 1/2 hour and then have a few AI fragments to take with me when I encounter a corrupt system.

yeah it's the wandering around looking for a camp, hoping for an echo locator and not a mirror, etc, etc. Where as I can get an AI Fragment in ANY system just by aggroing the sentinels.

I'm sure most of you already probably know this but I just figured it out this morning that if you land on a Dissonant planet and then find a Sentinal Tower, and succesfully deactivate the Sentinels through the terminal there. It seems to shut down all the sentinels on the planet. So I was able to go around finding the Inverted Mirror things and killing them with no opposition since the sentinels were deactivated. Makes farming Harmonic Brains really easy.

Yes other players can come and claim the ship. That is the whole point of sharing glyphs and info

Take a pic with glyphs and other players cam visit the system that has that ship

Those are modded as in: these do not spawn in vanilla game. They are not a product of mods, they are a product of editing your save data. That is still possible with consoles

So when you've got the quest called "Starbirth" you can force the ship on a specific planet by landing on that planet then resetting the quest (for me its middle mouse button)

Yeah you can, if you have another egg, just pulse. It'll start a new quest IIRC.

You can start it anywhere. then instead of collecting the new living ship, if you go far enough away (I think it's like, 4000 lightyears) then you can just reset the quest using your current parameters.

For PC at least for me (I don't think I changed the keybind anyway) that's middle mouse button while hovering over the quest. I use it for LS hunting, Sentinel ship hunting, settlement hunting or resetting bounties to my current system.

... or I could go back to that planet and trade it to you through a space station if you'd prefer that? I heard people do that sometimes but I don't know how it affects the stats of the living ship
