I'm having some trouble understanding why some modifications happens tho-

I'm using different materials on an egg and it keeps giving me the same anatomic change (aka, spikes on the head)

It should do other things instead, right? Or is it because I can't change the result the egg will give me, even with different materials?

Anyone has any information on this?

So no matter what I do, the same trait appears everytime, no matter if it's another egg, or another material

I think this trait WILL appear no matter what I do, so it's not totally random

NOTE: I saved scum everytime to try and test this

I think the trait might be determined by the parent, so maybe if I wait for this new baby to be able to lay eggs, it'll give another trait? It's a very long grind tho, and the time skip glitch doesn't change their age it seems, only the egg gestation and hatching timers

So I'm not sure if I wanna invest that much energy in something like that c':

I might just change their size and colors, since those can be modified pretty easily

Also I saved two eggs of this robot species I found, in case someone wants one ahah

Tho the size might be smaller, this baby here got modified a bit

Similar. I thought that any random elements would cause different results, and it seemed correct. But for mine I tried classifications of materials, and that is what made the difference for me. In other words, you can try it how it worked for me... instead of just trying 'copper/cadmium', which gives generally similar results in body parts, try varying silicates/oxides/metals. Basically try to go by their icon color, a yellow thing like Sulfur, then a red thing like Carbon, and then a blue thing like Cobalt...

It took 38 total 'generations' to get that rex. The feathered tail was the hardest part.

So don't expect to get a perfect result overnight. 😉

Well, one generation is 'the previous generation lays an egg. Take it to the anomaly, sequence it, wait for the 24 hours to be up, hatch it, and then either (1) You got the change you want, so wait 2 days or so until it's matured enough to make a new egg, or (2) No change happened, so waist 24 hours for a new egg to gestate and try again'

I could not find any sort of patternn. And yeah, many times no change at all would happen. #2 was way more common.

Think it's all entirely RNG, even with the precentages. a 20% change and a 100% change never seemed to be any "more changey"

Re-Save a copy of every generation. If the changes went 'totally backwards', I reverted.

I'm hoping that someday we get an alternate progression that works basically like a settlement, but instead you're taking an airless/dead world in an abandoned system and going through either a questline or a crafting line to terraform it, and transplanting some of your genetically bred species on to it. (also having a way to transplant flora discoveries/samples)

Sort of a Darwinish concept.

Luckily altering behavior is one of the easier things to fix. But you can't seem to alter their primary behavior, only the secondary or tertiary. So if they're primatily aloof then they'll always be aloof.

I used a resource that was dropping the helpfulness trait at first, but after I did that I used the same resource to increase the helpfulness
Because I think the game doesn't do the difference between play and help, it just tells you if it's the first, second or third stat you're modifying
And since play is the opposite of help, well I first needed to lower the play level and then increase the help level

I hope it makes sense aaa

I like that they can look different from each other even though they are the same creature basically. Now the whole companion system I do not like because of the limit on how many we can have, no gender (as they all can produce an egg) and that we can not breed them. We need an update with an extensive overhaul to the companion system.

To be fair, the system now kind of just cuts out the middle man. I'm not sure that I'd want to manage a bunch of animals to breed the "perfect" one. Although I agree on the limit. More pets is always fun.

i wish you can keep it that size, with that head to body size ratio i mean. it's so darn cute

I've been messing with his 'bones' setting to try to. I'm close. Think I got his scale down to about the best it can get. As an adult the head's just a bit smaller... but his legs are longer and that kind of throws off the cute.

Also his old head before the editing was longer and his neck longer. Now it's always short and his head is more round, but I can't seem to change that back to what it was.

It has some weird side effect to it which is kind of neat, seems maybe for every one of three times I hatch a new egg, his coloring will change at random, even if you don't mess with the dye colors.

I wanted him watermelon colored (green and pink) but he keeps becoming things like grey and gold, or a steel grey-blue and orange.

... Trick is that the white ones have a different body style than the tintable ones, and I've not figured how to change one to the other... yet
