You can't without using a specific mod or creating one with 3rd party tools on a PC. The bone ones in particular exhibit rather abnormal behavior and you would still require mods to interact with them in any way unfortunately.

You could get an egg from a player, but you wouldn't be able to do anything with it aside from summon it. Also, they only remain still when summoned on a station. If summoned on a planet they immediately start swirling around like a massive bone tornado lol not ideal pets. Definitely not multiplayer friendly.

This shouldn’t occur if you removed the save from your uploaded saves, as an extra precaution consider loading the save on its original device and make a save, this will place the timestamp of that save ahead of the one you are editing, meaning regardless of what happens you will always be prompted that there is a save conflict, forcing you to have to select to keep the original or uploaded version.

that way, cross-save also has no impact on editing

Yes, there are flying companions in the game. Some of them can be obtained normally, like flying beetles and butterflies. Some can't be obtained normally outside of save editing or getting them from another player, like flying worms and birds/dragons

Go to uncharted systems, or systems without a major faction or race running it. Scan the planets and look for one with EXACTLY TWO fauna on it. Robot planets will always have two species and only those two species.

Not certain. Haven't treid with those personally, but I'm pretty sure you could play around with colors in the sequencer. The only creatures that won't really let you are robots, but only if they spawn while naturally for some reason.

3. How do we get our flying critters to land near us, mine just stay airborne even though originally they did land on the ground before i took them in as companions.. (Whistling is useless.. maybe the food pellets make them hyper..?)

..I couldn't tell you just where you'll find them, i found them in all sorts of non-exotic or non-extreme environments, mostly like cold.. I've released mine, so i couldn't supply an egg, i gave my last long body butterfly egg to a random player when i hitchhiked on his corvette the other day from the Anomaly Station, but there will be future eggs from the long body companions i have, if you like.. Long bodied butterflies have nice colors too, but less wing when flapping, so more visibility than true butterflies..

That's very generous of you! I think I'll be able to find one by myself for now. One of the planets I visited earlier had some green butterflies, but they were very tiny. Just a few inches. I could probably use the egg modifier machine in the Anomaly to make one large enough to ride, but I'm still new to the game and don't know if that's even possible.

They're pretty common, but I have both kinds if you have trouble. The longer ones fly higher and slower, like the flying worms. Kinda like riding a kite lol I like the smaller ones personally, they're faster. Got a few beetles too, but they have a funny, bobbing sort of flight path.

A saw a PC user with one once lol their bodies sort of look like ants. You can probably get eggs for them too, but you won't be able to interact with it like you can with flying lizards, eagles and worms.

I haven't played around with any of them in the sequencer yet tho, I'm curious how others colors look and what their max size is.

I have a similar one that's flesh rather than bones, it leaves trails of gas behind as it flies - fart power! lol.

Yes, by scanning it using a freighter's Scanner Room and seeing if it's fauna reading says "Synthetic"

About 10% of worlds in uncharted systems will have "synthetic" fauna.

There are some mods on PC that allow you to either build the Scanning Room aboard a Corvette or just use it's functionality from the Mission Radar

There's also a lot of corvettes available from the bot that have scanners already installed in them. Those would work, just gotta find one. Those that do have them are usually showcased on YouTube or something.

So I tried dropping some food on the ground, which it did interact with, but so did a bunch of other animals, one of which ATE IT
