Is it fairly common to see creatures that have one proc-gen name in discovery info, but totally different proc-gen name in the scanner info?

One of my favorite planets got weird after the worlds update - all the former animals (I guess?) are now 'extinct' ... and the ones that are there now have this non-matching issue between Discovery tab and Scanner info

You can eventually gene-manipulate eggs after a few generations and engineer your own "mega fauna pet"

I've been noticing some land animals get pretty huge -- like three times taller or more than the player model -- but there's no way I'm aware of to know which planets have them until you visit (or search Reddit and other places for where people have posted words like "huge" )

Following up on something I posted the other day ...
Some pics showing how animals on this planet have different system information about them in the MT scanner vs. in Discoveries tab. Didn't want to spam the channel, so this is just 2 of them, but literally every animal has a different name in scanner than in the Discoveries info. And there are a LOT of "extinct" creatures listed as well. (This was a favorite planet of mine before Worlds 1 -- it's still a nice planet, but not as surreally pretty as it was before, and it seems like the fauna got regenerated in some way that broke something.

May be, but from my understanding worlds wasn't supposed to have done anything with planets other than add cloud systems, possibility of sky color changes, wind system, and adding flora variety. Terrain wasn't effected at all so there was no planetary reset or anything. I think the extinct animals were added to some planets for sure though, I don't really remember seeing those before though I know they were supposed to be former species on planets before planetary reset

Then again, this isn't the most stable game so looks like your fauna were somehow affected. Fauna are all the same as before in my planets so seems your case is different than normal

Yeah I'm bringing it up more as a curiosity and puzzle to figure out, not complaining. I'm genuinely interested in the underlying game logic and how things turn out this way.
I have some screenshots of the original look & feel of the planet but not the metadata about the creatures... I do have a few pics of the creatures that were originally there, and they're similar but different from what is there now. (Also the flora changed after Worlds as well) ... I've seen fauna shifts happen on several planets after the Worlds update, but hadn't really paid attention to the details until now.

So I'm pretty sure a lot of the "extinct" fauna are actually just minerals. We t back to my first planet in this save, haven't been there in several months. I only have one mineral discovered now and a ton of the extinct fauna names sound suspiciously like minerals

One word ending in "ite" instead of the usual A. Species name format

Same with flora now that I look, just two discovered now, plus flora follow the A. Species name format so I'm guessing none of the extinct ones are actually fauna at all

More than likely it’s the reward for completing expedition 4 which awarded the player a sandworm egg.

The alternative is just a save edited sandworm/flying_snake but by the looks of the model it’s just the expedition reward.

The expedition to obtain one is over, you would need to save edit or use a mod to obtain the same one or something similar.

Alternatively players with eggs can give you one if they have an egg of it.

This can allow a player to set personality attributes to 100% and create creatures far smaller or larger than normally found in the wild, albeit at a high resource cost

Only in uncharted systems (no dominant lifeform i.e korvax, gek, or vykeen). Look for planets with 3 to 4 total creatures (and all of them are ground).

If you have a freighter, you can unlock and build the scanner room which will give you info like total number of creatures on a planet without having to land on anything

Depends which ones, to categorise them the low flyers like beetles and butterflies yes you can tame them normally.

But high flyers like the birds and sandworms you would need a mod, save editor or player transfer.

I have many if you would like an egg. My best advice is go to uninhabited blue systems, and search for any planet with 3-4 fauna. The fauna is will be listed as synthetic when you land

Somebody posted a beautifully colored save-edited worm earlier (here? reddit? can't recall?) but I tweaked it some so it would have a less cumbersome tail (the tail wasn't really moving naturally) and gave it an eyeball head instead... because those are fun. I can share the JSON if anybody wants.

All low flying animals can be tamed

Sometimes its hard to get the prompt

As stated already, these can be tamed in the vanilla game, I assure you there is no mistake, creatures that are in the genus Protocaeli and Rhopalocera, these are low flying creatures that players are able to tame and have been for a few years.

High flyers with the ID flying_lizard or flying_snake cannot be tamed without a mod or made a pet with a save editor.

Same as any other creature, interact with it when the feed prompt comes up, then interact with it again to get the option to add it to your register.

It can be a bit tedious but not to the extent that it’s not showing.

Yeah it does work - I’ve noticed I have to wait for them to circle closer to the ground sometimes — but also that the prompt can come up when they’re further away than I’d expect it to work
For the record though, I’ll say since the last updates, selecting things in general has gotten trickier — like the hit box for the prompt is smaller or more finicky or something (I mean for a variety of things not just creatures)

Just be patient and wait until they fly low, get close and you'll see it. The hitbox moves in three dimensions instead of two so it'll be tricky, but wait when they get closer to the ground

There are two categories of flying creatures, high fliers and low fliers, low fliers are mostly all tameable, the high fliers are the bat/bird/dragon looking things and the flying worms

Some things "fly" low but can't be tamed, like the ones that are a swarm of tiny creatures like the butterfly looking things

But I've had a critter just like that but in yellow, so it's definitely possible

Anyone have a good location to harvest Foraged Mushrooms? I have been struggling to find a planet with the right type of creatures and it is one of only two ingredients for recipes I haven't been able to track down (the other being Latticed Sinew, but that is more a problem of killing the critter before they zoom away).

For foraged mushrooms you'll need to use an autofeeder/harvester with the little crawling gophers. You had herd them towards it if needed just by walking near them if they're moving the wrong direction.

For latticed sinew I flew low and hovered in ship and just blasted the ground racers until I had enough.

Hope this helps you finish that cooking grind.

If so, try Eissentam; I almost exclusively explore in Euclid, but I occasionally go to Eissentam. I don’t think that batch of exploration was Eissentam, but it helps to check!

If you know the system by name go into your Discoveries as it will list your systems.

From there you can add a discovery (planet, creature ect) to your wonders, hover over the wonder and it should display the glyphs to the planet it’s found on.

Another alternative from discoveries is setting a waypoint to that system and following the galaxy map there. Of course depending on how far you have traveled from it will determine how viable this option is compared to using glyphs.

I've dabbled but not much beyond what is there. There are vids on you tube of course but it is a real hit or miss thing.
It also bugs me, that most of these species age. I never had one die of old age on me but I can't believe that is not a factor of some kind.

I would imagine it miight affect it taking damage and dealing damage. Predators grow old fast. Metallic organisms either do not age o take very long. It has to be a factor. I also cannot seem to get an egg from elderly specimens sometimes.

carbon grows them and I like to grow my predators. I have seen a video on growing a Diplo to enormous size. I never tried to shrink one lol

but when you have predators, make sure you are getting eggs and storing them. They do age fast....

high metabolism maybe? XD

frozen predators take awhile and one of my best was a frozen T-rex type with tusks

he stayed mature for over a year of RT lol

I never worry about color or environmental factors. I only worry about size and behavior. I prefer aggressive and helpful or industrioous.

dependence means they need to be petted more. which is a pain lol they will get lonely fast.

Oh and loyalty will get them to attack your enemies faster the higher that score

Well pretty much all low tier resources decrease size, so yeah, think atomic mass. Heavy elements like metals, Increase Size, Activated Indium is also really good for size increase just like Platinum and it's easier to setup a hotspot mine for it.
