With features that aren't color or size, I believe it's super RNG unfortunately. You gotta keep trying. Maybe make a backup if you have a version you like.

So colors are basically made from the color of the item used? Used a bunch of magno-gold and my butterfly went from green to red.

alright so this guy is called a flying lizard. basic vanilla player can not tame them on there own. either save edited in or the companion unlocker mod which lets you tame almost anything that moves. OR if you have someone (like me) who will give you an egg your set. because EVERYONE can have these, regardless of platform played on and mods or no mods. you can interact with with them, pet them, feed them. and once they mature to "adult" like 2 to 3 days you can start laying your own eggs. make as many as you want. even handing them out to other player. you can even send the egg through the seqeuncher in the anomaly. change personality, parts, and colors. doesnt work on size though not sure why now though.

but i have been called the father of dragons may times. i make custom ones for people all the time.

Every animal that has more than 1 head as an option can have two put on at once. The things is you won't be able to see all of them. You will just get bits and pieces sticking through. The only reason the bird one work is bc of the length of the neck. It pushed it out farther. The 2 head whale I made last night does look kinda cool thought. A headless shark? Umm. Why? 😆 its not closed off at anybody part. Like if you chopped your hand off. you bleed, you can see the inside of the arm. Heals and you get a little nob. How to even get eggs?

If you summon a companion on a planet with the same environment as their home planet, and after they've been with you long enough, you can talk to them to get an egg in the same menu you can feed them and ride them from

There's also a gene sequencer on the Anomaly that lets you change a pet offsprings size, color, features, and personality.

You can also stand around at the anomaly and potentially have someone drop an egg into your inventory. Only happened to me twice, but it can.

how get companion?

You should be able to craft creature pellets in your inventory with carbon, and you can interract with most creatures you see on planets. Once you feed them you can harvest resources from them, ride them, and adopt them as a permenant companion. Rare robot creatures require ion batteries instead of pellets, but it's the same otherwise.

vanilla or "basic" players can tame large butterflies, flying bettles, and then weird and proto flyers which are like the elephant fish, smoke fish, flying saucer looking thing all of those are the only flying pets you can tame on your own. BUT flying snakes you can have and fly. they were an expedition reward so they are actually coded for it. same for the flying lizards " giant eagle, dragons" HG has the code for them to be pets. its just for the lizards and snakes you need given your first egg.
