The story is basically a long tutorial.
It will unlock many things for free,
Also doing multiplayer before you reach certain story objectives can mess up your save.
You're free to do whatever you want of course, people are just trying to help make things easier/safer for you.
They are not trying to impose on you.

You can also get glyphs without doing the story that said.

usually there is a traveller NPC in the space station and if you pick the right choice you'll be located a grave

I couldn't tell you specifically, only been on the game a few days. But I've been to some peoples bases and they had build some crazy looking stuff in their places. All aesthetic but like a glass floor room and under it was a dome of electromagnetic generators in a spiral with some glowing dome in the center.

Some people had crazy ideas for building layouts and stuff like that too

Ok, then Id suggest building one of each type of exocraft bay, and installing the exocraft materializer in the freighter.
Then you can summon them in any system your freighter is in

That applies across galaxies as well
