For tainted metal save up 5 million units and buy emergency cords for an abandoned freighter in space from the scrap merchant. Once you have gotten a little bit of tainted metal, you can duplicate it with portable refiners. I’ll find a link to duplicating items but if you want more of a challenge you can get all the tainted metal yourself. As for trading, I at least don’t have any I can offer.

@tulip scarab As far as I am concerned, ship trading no longer works with trading the desired design of the original ship unless it is a unique ship, but I’m always keen to test if someone wishes to dispute it. At this point tho let’s not spread misinformation until a proper test is done aye?

What used to happen was one player would sell their ship to an NPC and block it from flying away. Other player in the same session would claim that ship almost immediately for free. This would change the ship’s internals and class but it would still be a free ship.
Post 4.4 (iirc) Hello Games have removed/fixed this entire process by forcing the first seed of that ship in that system, and also by removing the “free” cost. This means unlike previously your ship design and/or stats (included) will not transfer over to your friend when they purchase the ship.
In case of exotics and living ships the design will change but the class will remain the same because they always come in S class.
Unique ships do not have any ship seed in the system list so their design or class does not change but their base bonus stats may change.
In case of sentinel ship the design will not change unless you’re in a dissonant system, because there’s only 1 design per dissonant system.
This change doesn’t mean ship trading isn’t a thing at all, it’s just different from what it used to be.

I assume you mean galaxy 51 - galaxies are the largest objects in no man’s sky, each comprising of billions of stars and planets. Everyone starts in galaxy 1 (Euclid). You can get to the next galaxy by going through the center of your current galaxy (or you can be brought to any galaxy by any player who has been to that galaxy). I’m heading to 51 because there’s a ship there that I’m interested in

Take your ship, find some water, then fly slowly over the surface, as low as you can, and just keep firing into the water... You'll have a couple of thousand in no time...

Class is random and a player can’t really assist you in getting that, but you can influence the chance of that class spawning with the economy of a system which is listed here

As for the method to farm a freighter, as stated the faq I posted in #bot-spam has all that info just read.
