Iirc you need to complete the autophage questline in order to accept the proc missions from them, prior to that it’s dictated by the mission that takes you through it. I just can’t remember the exact stage you can accept missions normally.

If you mean when does the autophage questline start, it starts once you have completed the Artemis questline (the purge) lifted the seal to a harmonic camp then you warp to initiate the quest.

What type of save? I can give you some stuff to help get you started

Do an expedition, you start with a solar ship, add a few smacking sentinel ones, claim an a class dreadnaught freighter as you go along or a normal system freighter and a few cosmetics for your character and your bipedal mechanized, ai powered minotaur.

It converts to a normal save once done and I bet there's peeps here willing to pitch in as you go along.

It also can be helpful if you want to find a desirable ship design, as there are numerous filters to look through.
