The tainted metal is spent at the scrap dealer at any space station and once you get what you need from him refine the rest and it gives you a ton of nanites

#

Same thing with the salvaged technology refine it after you learn all of the blueprints at the construction stations in the anomaly and it will also give you a decent amount of nanites
