Hello, I don't know if anyone knows the answer: I am on Linux and attempting to start NMS in VR, but it just starts in PC mode. Does anyone know a fix? I am on CachyOS using wivrn. Other games work just fine π₯²

You have to run custom xrizer with a fix, since nms switched to openxr. It should be in a main branch some time ago, but for the reason unknown it is not.
@loud tiger is wivrn installed from flatpak? maybe try non-flatpak (something else i was reading)
I did, but the url to the solution posted in the comments no longer works. Another user commented to use Envision, but I am using Wireless streaming so I can't test that.
I'm not using the Flatpak version of WiVRn but the AUR packages.

Improve buildings and make management decisions that will over time increase the productivity. It will eventually pay off its debt. Settlements can also eventually produce specific items for you. I know many people have their settlements produce frigate fuel
is there a list online of what I can make my settlement produce?

Assuming the base is in the same system, as soon as you build a teleporter. If not, likely as soon as you reach the Anomaly; though group bases are sometimes a bit strange

Hello. I have discovered what the problem was and have found a solution. WiVRn uses Xrizer as OpenVR compatibility library. The main repository of Xrizer does not yet implement the latest version of OpenVR (2-15-6). Luckily, someone has made a fork that implements the necessary changes: https://github.com/ImSapphire/xrizer/tree/openvr-2-15-6
You can clone the repository with
git clone -b openvr-2-15-6 --single-branch https://github.com/ImSapphire/xrizer.git
And then you compile with cargo xbuild.
Finally you must change the OpenVR compatibility library in WiVRn to the target/release directory.
Hopefully this helps someone who encounters the same problem as me π

It can be. Put simply, S-class serves the "Install and forget, I'll get something OP anyway" approach, while X-class the "I want to max this out" approach but may take more time investment to get the "stronger than S-class" rolls.

I believe normal starship upgrades should work
Standard starship upgrade modules work, and they stack with the Zenith-Class Reactors exclusive to corvettes
What do I do to unlock all the exocrafts? I brought every blueprint from the anomaly
you can salvage modules from salvageable scrap worlds, and once you have enough you can trade some for 3 zenith class reactors and build those onto your ship
Well their geobays are a blueprint unlocked at the Space Anomaly, from the Construction Research Station
Placing down their geobay summons the exocraft, and having a geobay placed somewhere in the universe counts as owning it for extended summoning methods (like the exocraft summoning station, orbital materializer)
Oh I need to build the pads first?
yes, they are basically where the vehicle is "stored"

Base building objects, character customization options, cosmetic starship technology, emotes, a Void Egg which begins the mission to obtain a Living Ship
Speak to the Quicksilver Synthesis Companion, on the Anomaly, to the right of the Nexus terminal. They're the only merchant that deals in Quicksilver.
Just a heads up, as well: if you find something called a "Myth Beacon" in the Quicksilver catalogue, don't get it. It's useless nowadays, and was only used for the second expedition.

That's not where you buy upgrade modules, that's where you buy technology blueprints
To buy starship upgrade modules, go to the starship tech vendor aboard any space station
each space station offers each module at a different class, S-Class ones aren't uncommon just slightly expensive
you can install up to 3 upgrade modules of each type, blueprint technology does not count towards this limit

Add more upgrade modules related to your weapon type (up to 3, blueprint tech doesn't count towards this limit), and place the main weapon and it's upgrades in supercharged slots
do my frigate expeditions need some kind of extra security to prevent damage? i thought it was to just have a fleet 2 stars above the mission difficulty
the fleet probably had some sort of really low stat that had an event happen, or you made a poor/risky decision for them
no decision was involved unless they can happen while im not in the game
when they do but you fail to answer them, it's as if they never happened
does that mean i need to watch out for stats across the board instead of just stars?
Kinda, if any are extremely low then they can fail events of that type (which one event that misaligns with the mission's type will always occur)

It was probably one of these abyssal horrors, they're exclusively around sunken buildings I think
when they start pulling you in, you're given the prompt to press the interact button repeatedly to escape
i think they show up around caves aswell
maybe, I know the other type of abyssal horror can be found all over in their weird little nest things with the hadal core things hanging around

I think you can find them at nearly any sunken building, which can be located using the Nautilon's high powered sonar's quick menu options
they can be common around those kinds of structures i guess(buildings or hadal core drops)
when using visor, they'll be under a red exclamation mark icon - they can indeed spawn underwater, and not near any buildings; but always near sunken abandoned buildings
one thing that's happening atm is that if you aqua jet land near one that's shallow enough, you'll start getting damage even when inside your ship, if you try to take off you'll get stuck (respawn ship elsewhere first)

@earnest crater alternative: both players teleport to the same featured base in the anomaly, then check in save options/network settings/view nearby player list, see if you landed in the same instance. if you did, find each other, then join group that way
if it works already in non-vr - at its core, networking code most likely doesn't change one bit from non vr to vr

i remember someone said they were farming gravitino balls for units - i just found a planet where they spawn randomly on ground pretty often bettwen corupted sentinels

relatively; only 20% chance that a resonator becomes a echo locator resonator - but sometimes you can get multiples in a short amount of time/distance

- 80% chance that Resonator will be an Inverted Mirror Resonator;
- 20% chance that Resonator will be an Echo Locator Resonator.
Approach and aim at the Resonator to see what it will drop when destroyed.

if you're asking when the devs are going to rerun older expeditions, we dont know
worth swaping over?
so far the pattern has mostly been "release 3-4 new exps a year, then rerun those same ones at the end of that same year again, stop for a bit"
possibly - sentinels do have a very decent damage innate bonus even at b-class, has a higher limit on b-class than rifle's s-class innate bonus range. no idea where the last two sc slots of the sentinel will be at after upgrading to a and s-class, could be in very advantageous locations, it might not be. that said, we can own up to 6 tools, +18 archived, and we can scrap tools we dont want at the anomaly.
dont worry too much about these, if you get a nice supercharged slot layout, that alone is going to carry
how rare is a A class sentinel randomly in those resonance crates

personally, i dont bother much with s-class naturals anymore, i just farm the nanites to class upgrade a lower tool and be happy i got it

open build menu, cursor over wall, press show variants, pick a wall that popped on the list - this disables, bypasses contextual building: a part changing appearance bcause of other parts near it

it's not a grindy game for the most part. things you'll "grind" (not really, just take your time) is stuff like the fishing helmets, completing catalog, maxing out upgrade modules, that kind of stuff. once geared up, defeating wanted level 5 on the ground or in space isnt really difficult. most things will die easily after upgrades, and you'll be op enough as well, your character i mean
oof, sorry, it's been a while since i've actually built a house, try them out - remember that manually deleting parts refunds 100% of the build mats back

i mean, you could make it more challenging by gimping yourself or raising difficulty settings, sure, but it's not the kind of game that will throw rpg level bosses at you or anything, it's all pretty chill, some thrills

yeah, for example fauna, fauna dies by you sneezing at them with a good weapon build, even with a good mining beam build. hardest things are going to be sentinels: corrupted large spiders, the sentinel walker - then possibly boundary guardian, the brood mother. ancient guardians can be a bit of challenge sometimes, but not if you're stacked on shields and health lol

like, the same drop chances apply to ships multitools (wherever they came from) freighters and even frigates

nah, and pvp isnt really a thing most players are engaging in - most players have it disabled, which means no other player can harm them. pvp mostly happens within pvp-er player groups aka communities

@errant lance about the bounties, if you meant like higher bounty fugitive pirates, the ones that sometimes spawn in systems, iirc if in higher conflict systems, the bounty is higher ("elite" fugitives), but it's really not much compared to other ways of making moneys

You could use a harmonic camp to endlessly locate more crash sites of that ship design too, each of which rolls it's class separately

They have the fastest in-atmosphere speeds, and have halved launch costs and halved warp costs
Their tech can also be recharged using alternate stuff, mainly Radiant Shards for a full charge
They handle very differently to all other ship types though, turning faster when boosting but slower when slow

Ahh that's kind of sad - I thought they were a regular thing with them rotating on a loop.
They typically re-run the current year's expeditions as the end of the year. Pinned in the #nms-modding channel is a website which let's some users (based on device) re-run previous expeditions in offline mode.
I did, it gave me 5 numbers and there does not appear to be any other way to interact.

How do I change targets for auto-targeting? I had to destroy 5 pirate ships, and my ship kept locking to a ship way out of range despite my shooting a ship that was nearby. It's quite annoying

not sure on the warp range, but i reckon that easily breaking 3k LY, and i've seen vettes with more than 4k maneuver, getting up to 6k.

saving and reloading kept it at 1600. We're going to build a new corvette and see what it gives us

I've never used exocraft before so I just built it with them in mind. What do they do and how do you summon them?
well for example, they're planetary exploration vehicles, they can be quite fun but maybe not to all ofc, they can be made weather immune (nauti and mino are already immune by default), they have their own unique inventories, their radar techs can be quite useful to locate buildings, nomad can hover above water, minotaur can be used to dish out lots of damage, etc

i mean, it depends on you mostly - you could use them as extra storage, storing base building materials, pop them in when you need to find a building, if you explore planets with lots of islands and want to travel more freely perhaps nomad is going to be the one you'll use, maybe if you want to go garbage collecting (remnant update) you'll need to use colossus
pilgrim is great fun and probably the fastest, roamer is like a 4x4 buggy
nautilon will probably be used on waterworld biome planets to get down there

Quality of Life: Summoning exocrafts via on foot Quick Menu
- Requirement: At one of your bases, build all the exocraft geobays you want to have for later use. They can't be built on the freighter base, other than that pick any base you like.
Then, in the future, when on any planet in the universe, the actual summoning part is done using one of these methods:
a) Build the portable Exocraft Summoning Station on the current planet, use on foot quick menu to summon desired exocraft(s), delete Exocraft Summoning Station.
b) Build the Orbital Exocraft Materializer freighter room, summon freighter to current system, use on foot quick menu to summon desired exocraft(s).
c) Install Exocraft Summoning Unit exosuit tech, use on foot quick menu to summon desired exocraft(s). Requires access to purple star systems.

Save editor if you're on PC, depending on what you want; but that group put a lot of work into that tool so they charge for some of the services

Are there any tutorials i am missing online from content creators where i can just literally copy paste the build like there are so many in minecraft? cant find any, maybe not using the right keywords?
There are no copy/paste bases. #nms-base-building can give you ideas; but there's almost nothing that you need in a base, just what you want to build there

No grid, prefab buildings provide power to everything built inside, as long as the building itself gets enough power from the connection on the outside

did you try and dive leaving colossus there for a bit, see if underwater the terrain is alright? mostly smooth? you can try doing what @obsidian tusk was saying: do it 1 by 1, manually, grabbing 1 with grav coil, melee jetpacking over the water, look up when falling on the ground if you want to prevent damage to the waste container

i just leave colossur use sprint melee into jetpack you can cover about 500 units in les than 10 secs

clams are actually really easy to loot - you dont have to mine them - you can just swim above them, there's a spot that it will let you interact to loot, and even when it does open up the clam afterwards. you can be face hugging it when it happens it still wont damage you

you can have up to 3 of each weapon modules types (e.g. photon, deadeye) that they will add stats (techs to your inventory), and you can still add the usual 3 s-class upgrade module from space stations on top of those, if you got the tech slots. also, phase beam is a little broken, in the sense that while adding more than 3 phase beam doesnt add more tech to inventory, it does add to damage still

and yeah, the colossus is central to all of that
it'd also be advised to unlock the Exocraft Radar blueprint tech from Iteration: Perses

is it possible to go past the 'wall' where stars just disappear beyond the edge of the galaxy? i spent a long time beefing up my hyperdrive (almost 4000ly on my starship) because i thought that at the edges the stars would just slowly become less and less common until eventually theres nothing left

I've tried stopping and starting windows audio service, reinstalling, deleting my hellogames folder in roaming, the only other suggestion online is to delete some settings files in the game directory, but they don't exist because it crashes before settings can be made

@normal lantern in addition to planets with no mountains/mostly flat, i prefer to farm them in dead or weird biome dissonant planets (ones with rusted metal or gold on resource list, respectively): many of the usual resources we find on the surface dont exist on these planets, which means that the analysis visor has less icons to use, which in turn means that resonator icons are easier to find. these planets cant spawn harmonic camps though, so if the only dissonant planet(s) in the system is/are of that biome, you'll need to find a different gek/korvax/vykeen dissonant system to use echo locator in
"both" (non-corvette i.e. fighter/explorer/hauler/solar sail and corvette) can be built without spending units, it'll just take more time to collect ships from crashed ship sites and obtaining the ship reactor or gather the needed corvette parts from the wild

a corvette is built from the ground up, can have a mini base inside, can leave seat in flight, can beam down to planets without having to land, and a bunch more things
ships built using fabricator are easier to build, but less customizable
both fabricator and corvette workshop allow color customization, though the former cant modify built ships color schemes after they're built
how about if i buy the ships from npcs? are they worth it?
@dreamy lark !faq-units has a crashed ship farming guide, !faq-corvettes can fill you in on how to obtain corvette parts for free (most players go for planets with salvageable scrap containers) - type the commands in #nms-commands . ofc, you could farm the units and buy the basic corvette modules at the workshop instead, and could buy ships from npcs in space stations for example to salvage for parts to use in the fabricator.

sorry for the late reply. personally, i try to first unlock base parts: anomaly (construction research station, qs shop) is the first stop ofc, but there's other sources e.g. ruin set, derelict freighter set. then, i need to get inspired with a theme. either that comes from the landscape itself, or something irl - i find it easier to have an idea first, than to just "build as i move around". sometimes i'll build bases solely for aesthetic/photo mode purposes - why not check out #nms-base-building for images, see if anything comes up that kinda interests you? some of the more complex builds might have used in game techniques called "glitch building", which allows a whole nother level of freedom when building tbh.

well theres two here can i choose both or can i only pick 1?
only 1; option 2 will allow you to disassemble the ship into a single part, e.g. body, wings, which you could hold on to, in order to build an explorer ship later on. option 1 scraps it and gives items to sell for units and sometimes upgrades for our existing ships
So I found a nice place to put down 3 atmosphere harvesters on a planet and next thing I know iam battling some sentenials ,short story here is I don't know where I placed the 3 harvesters because I didn't get a base comp down and now can place anymore on the planet seeing the 3 max ,anyway of finding them ? Lol

Add more hyperdrive upgrades. For an interceptor, that's almost as low as it gets since the interceptor hyperdrive adds 600 ly of distance by itself

In my opinion having a quest that makes you wait multiple real life days to complete it is strange
you're birthing a ship, the lore is actually quite dark of an experience lol

they have their own specific upgrades and techs and even storage augment items, and the only techs they can use from non living ships are trails, figurines and atlantid drive

Hey I am having issues recovering my game save (200 hour+) after my game randomly crashed.When I opened my game to load back into my save all I saw was the options to create a new game instead of any of my saves.I play on the PC version of Xbox and would like to know if there is a way I could get them back.

i've seen this being reported sometimes - seems like it's having troubles reconnecting to the cloud or something. you could double check the save folder path and see if there's anything there still, if there's something there copy the whole wgs folder to your desktop for example to make a backup of whatever's there. in the case that it's having issues connecting to the cloud to download files stored there, that usually fixes itself from what i've seen. have you tried:

using resource lists, the presence or lack of one or more elements allows with some practice to insta recognize a biome, without remembering all the synonyms each biome can use

Obtaining Lithium/Finding a Waterworld biome planet
Requirements:
- Purple star systems unlocked.

- Look for a Gas Giant system - they're tagged as such in the Galaxy Map.
- Land on the Gas Giant planet: obtain 1 Crystallised Helium and 1 Activated Quartzite (e.g. from mineral deposits), refine Crystalized Helium+Activated Quartzite to get Lithium.
- Open Catalog & Guide > Materials & Items, Raw Materials - Exotic;
- Cursor over Lithium, press Locate key/button.
- Follow new mission objective and to the marked system in the galaxy map.
After reaching marked system, look for any planet with Lithium on the resource list.

wife and I have tried twice now to do a derelict freighter, and both times we hit a door with growths on it, shoot them, but the door does not open. Is there supposed to be a button or something to open these doors?
gear comes in classes, and we can upgrade class with nanites too - but it's expensive, so only really worth doing to gear we intend to keep in the long run. with some nanite farming strategies, it's often faster to just get a lower class ship and farm the nanites and upgrade it. the class that drops is random and influenced by system economy tier. we can see system economy tier in the galaxy map when ship has eco scanner installed. a c-class ship with s-class modules will do anything you need it to do with ease, no ship does great without upgrade modules
nah, it's supposed to open automatically when you destroy the last thing blocking it. perhaps try both returning to previous room, then try again approaching the door?

fighter type ships are more common in vykeen systems, explorers in korvax systems, haulers in gek, and solar sail in outlaw

you can see the base techs there: hyperdrive (on the left), pulse engine (on the right) etc - the other s-class modules, in each of those squares, are buffing the hyperdrive for example:
seems that it's having issues syncing things up between the two of you, it happens sometimes. are you both playing say, on the same connection? e.g. both on wifi?
yeah - gek systems can still get fighters ofc, so just observation bias

dont worry too much - it was more to visualize that a c-class ship can do a lot. this will eventually be basic to you, as you keep progressing. right now it's just a bit overwhelming, so filter most of it out. can always ask again sometime later π

imma just focus on building a ship first
for example, in the fabricator, you'll eventually have something like this: the 3 ship parts needed and the reactor, also needed. try to keep an eye on mission board agent: missions there can sometimes reward ship reactors too.

another example,complete diff stat: a fighter has 0 hyperdrive bonus, but even a fighter, after upgrades on hyperdrive, can reach hyperdrive range and efficiency more than enough to pretty much anything in the game: there's lots of star systems, we dont never need to warp something like 3K to get to the next
quest locked, quest requires having learned something else which you get further along the line not at the start, and while they can be played without inventory upgrades, the way to get them is locked behind living frigates, so they're not really going to be something you can get to atm.
tried a third dungeon and this time we were both there, but dropped the group. I was the only one to interact with any doors, but still after 3 rooms we hit a door that will not open. They just seem completely broken.
alright so theres always room to make my own ship compatible with the way i play
and even into an all rounder yeah - can do anything you have need for it to do at any point, not forcing you to swap to a diff ship
