those are the reference numbers for each colour. Different brands have different ways they come up with those numbers, but they are supposed to give you an idea of the blending groups. with copic, the letters are the colour family then the first number is the 'saturation' and the second number is the 'value'

OCtober day 5&6: Childhood and lifelong goal.
Although Daphne has technically never been a child, I consider the very start of the game as their “childhood” . Their lifelong goal is to reach the 256th galaxy, represented by the large star.

I’ve been a bit slow with this challenge due to irl issues. I got to know my new “overseer” of my social benefits who will also help me find a jobcoach and such. I had to tell my entire disability story again which requires a lot of emotional labour from me, which left me mentally exhausted and with a foggy mind.

What helped me avoid shading mistakes, that lead to 'flat' drawings, is understanding how light bounces off of forms. One would think it's linear but actually it follows lambert's cosine law, aka cosine emission law. At 80° inclination we get 45% brightness, however at 10° we get 99%. If you do a bit of reading, things will click as you shade the next time.

hmm one thing you could try (bear in mind that I am not a visual artist however) is to work on line drawings for awhile and get a solid foundation, before adding the color back in. so being able to draw strong lines that go the direction you want, with a steady or tapering thickness as you prefer in that part of the drawing, and being able to make the dimensions of things similar (so that a series of small circles is all the same size and the circles are smooth, same for rectangles etc).

it's totally ok to not worry about perspective and shading in your sketches right now. or even at all, depending on the style you want.

Oh, I’m drawing for years now , but I think most important are to not give up (because it will take some time to learn all things, like colors, anatomy etc). If you feel passionate about it, just do it ; ) I don’t know if I have tips specifically how to draw. I know I was starting in sketchbooks, and I wasn’t using pencils, only ink pens - because with pencils you will constantly erase “mistakes”.

The texture on the soil and on the seed pods is my biggest cue to that, plus the clipping of the leaves, and the occasional polygonal look. I mean, it’s still really cool 3d model. But I highly doubt it’s a sketch, as in a rough draft of a drawing.

I apologize for the skepticism, but being observant lends itself to that.

I don’t care if you gave it “meaning” yeah, you slopped random paint on a canvas or painted like two colored squares and then gave it some deep meaning so you can pass it off as better then what it is. Sure it’s still art, it can still look nice. But I don’t think it should be the type of art selling for millions, that should be going toward the skilled artists who make beautiful drawings and paintings etc. not abstract paintings that a five year old could replicate.

usually those abstract, non-representational pieces you see selling for millions are from artists who have a solid foundation and are generally good at other forms of art. Pollock for instance, his main thing was drip art, but he knew how to draw and had an understanding of anatomy and such.

also, one man’s trash is another man’s treasure. At the end of the day, humans think very differently from one another and like things for different reasons, so an abstract piece may speak more to a person’s emotions than anything.

It’s more about name. obviously you can buy a print or even paint and replicate your own, but people are buying the name behind the painting, not just the painting

AWWW your so sweet thank you. yes im used to working my butt off in the real world but have taken a short break to fight these sentinels. i do got this, thank you so much for having my back. im barely in my 30's and have a long exciting road ahead of me with the love of my life beside me. we still live life everyday in enjoyment. in just the past year and a half we have bungie jumped, sky dived, shark dived in the middle of the ocean without any cages, went parisailing, went in a hot air balloon over the city, and on new years eve, my birthday, we will be jumping off the grand canyon bridge with a bungie cord of course hundreds of feet in the air. im happy to be living my best life and if i was to die today i would die one happy women. but im one bad ass warrior and plan on kicking this cancer back to hell where it came from 🙂

In the software I’m using there is no option for simulated hair so I sculpted it, but I’m planning to import my most successful 3D self portrait to Blender or another software to create more realistic, simulated hair.

That’s the point of photorealistic rendering. To an experienced eye there are many ways to differentiate between a real image and a render. We tend to create that photo realism as true and on-point as possible.

None of the object in the images are real, everything has been hand made on my computer, in 3ds Max.

@golden mirage those 3-D renders are incredible! The closest I've gotten to anything even remotely close to that is through SketchUp while I was doing game design. What you're using handles light really well, it looks so realistic.

I had used Vray (rendering/lighting/texturing/material engine) for these renders.

These were done during my learning phase, when I was trying to get the concept down. Now I can reproduce this in blender, with cycles. It’s a matter of learning and experimenting to know how things react. Every render’s gonna take a tremendous effort but the end results are always beautiful. It is like base building in NMS; at first we are clueless but with practice and repeated effort we start to use the tool as it’s meant to be used to implement our creativity.

Is making renders something that you do or consider doing for work? I only ask because you're so incredibly good at it. There are a lot of realtors and home designers that love to get homes virtually staged. I do get the other side of that too though, sometimes if a hobby becomes your job the work is a lot less enjoyable. I used to bake as a hobby, and now run my own custom cake business. I do still enjoy baking cakes, but I feel a bit restrained on what I can do at times.

And you know those giant sand worms? Yeah I decided to turn that into a sentinel bot as well

The idea is for a special cityscape type planet where the sentinels are creating more of themselves and etc

Aggressive sentinels in almost every one

Oh yeah you can’t summon your freighter here

It will get shot down if summoned

Unless you have a special modification that makes it able to cloak itself in orbit

It only works for sentinel planetary cannons based on the ground

If you are chased by fighters into space

They will be able to locate your freighter and destroy it

Again, highly WIP

But I wanna see what everyone else thinks first before I continue

Maybe an abandoned sub variant of a factory planet where local nuclear reactors exploded, causing the planet to be abandoned and start to be overgrown

People have made modded ships in NMS but they don't show them in game screenshots here either because those are game screenshots. If they showed their created ship models in a rendered image it would have been different.

I have no problem with AI for silly memes and goofy images that everyone has free access to - be it a video game or a favourite show. But I know a lot of these artists and I commission them regularly, I've done some shady stuff in the past, and AI is not a thing I'd ever be okay with...

I can’t believe how far I’ve come with my 3D journey from 2021 until now. How much my sculpting has improved.
I’m still working on new projects and I plan on learning to use even more advanced softwares besides Nomad Sculpt, such as Blender, ZBrush, Maya and Unreal Engine.

I’m very confident that in 2023 I can continue to improve my art skills like this.

I've got a great friend named PlagueHeart (known on discord as The_13th_Rat_King) who I met from playing No Man's Sky. This is a character fusion piece I just finished for him, I wanted to incorporate his name and what it means to him into his NMS character. He's also a big fan of wh40k, so many of the mechanical elements come from that.

As y'all know it's not one of my strengths.. but I think it came out alright 😅 it's something I've been trying to work on, but it's so weird going from comic style art to lineless lol.

I love both versions of this art piece. The lines add a certain level of depth while no lines create a mysterious aura around the piece. The concept of “PlagueHeart” is also clearly defined here which is something really hard to pull off without a lot of practice.

But you know what I absolutely adore about these versions? It’s your cursive handwriting. The free flow connecting letters create such a beautiful artistic symmetry I can’t focus on anything else for long, going back to the signature time and time again. I absolutely love it.

Oh, thank you ☺️ I actually learned my signatures from copying off of a calligraphy set over and over. I found some letters that I loved the look of and used them as a practice sheet.

My first attempt to make "PlagueHeart" art was mediocre at best haha, I got finished with the lines and shadows, then decided I hated it. It had absolutely no dynamics, and was just incredibly boring to look at. So, I restarted and came up with this. A bit busy, but it's one of my favorite pieces that I've done in a while 😊

Ah, it can be hard to decide when to start over but starting fresh can do wonders! I’ve had times like that where I just can’t get a piece to look good and have to scrap it your final result is amazing tho!
Also, I LOVE your signature too! I need to settle on mine lol

Sometimes it's the best option, in this case definitely so! I'm no professional, but I think all artists have to start over from time to time 😊 It is just part of the process. A bit annoying, but it does make you work extra hard for that second piece to look that much better haha!

My old signatures were really lazy, so I was in desperate need to upgrade it lol.. especially since I've just recently (within the last 6 months or so) started sharing my artwork on the internet.
