I read a deepdive on that engine some time ago. The developers had actually considered UE, but found that the engine could not give them the performance to fidelity ratio they needed with how bloated the UE engine is on its own.
All them UE bros thinking Unreal is the endgame for developers ignore that it's harder to customize the workflow and production line for developers that don't have the source code for their engine and every single game

with comparable range and depth as Crimson Desert uses a custom engine

My only complaint is that it's a real bitch to cancel out of an animation to do a counter when 3 dudes are railing you at the same time.

double tapping dodge is my only real go-to

I'd rather be able to counter to break an animation sequence, like in batman arkham asylum

If you're fighting a baddy and multiple attack you, a counter will work on all three at the same time

In Crimson Desert it works on one dude and you go through an invulnerability iframe

Then the other dudes that already started their animation attack sequence can hit you immediately after the iframe ends

So you can get stun locked by a large gang of dudes bangin on you at the same time

If I could counter to animation break, I could just counter everyone all the time

My only complaint is there's no good gap closer in unarmed combat unless you use your grappling hook and teleport

With any weapon, you can flare up the weapon to blind everyone and then gap close with a heavy attack

It needs enough quarter space for everyone. it needs an area for people to hang. A dining hall. It needs engineering and science and a medic bay. It needs ample storage.

He doesn't, really. If I'm understanding it correctly, the developers contacted him about sponsorsing two videos. He did one earlier before the launch and one after the launch. He has to be hurting for content to do sponsorships this way. He did something similar for StarRupture.

I doubt you'll ever see him complete a game sponsored this way.

If he continues down this path of just spitting out sponsored slop with exploits in it, I can't see his channel surviving. Compare this to how he plays games like satisfactory where he goes insane with checking to see how far he can take an idea....It's something people are amused by. This soulmask sponsorship plays out like a performance piece.

When I was playing the game, I only engaged in PVE and played with PVE guilds. I almost joined a PVEVP guild until I saw they were only PVP to ruin people that hurt their metrics on twitch

That was when I said fuck this whole thing. Beyond the shit pvp, the cheaters who hack it and the shit rendering engine, I was done

I joined Dune coming off the back of a solid PVE Conan server

Dune will be lucky to consolidate what it has left to make a working long term gameplay loop

From sweatlords to griefers to people who can't take losing and then start cheating.

It doesn't help that some countries pay people to earn profits off games with pvp

Client pays company X that pays contractor Y to either shop clients wish or play client for a time.

There's a huge incentive for homeless people in countries in asia to do this because it doesn't require them to have an education and there are essentially live-in net cafes

Cant speak abt cheating but if the game had enough players then there'd be more "content" and less of griefers. Albion online is a good example of that. Every now n then u'll find someone who tries to "noob-trap" new players but most fights happen in pvp zones because thats what players sign up for. Lack of that and ppl start encroaching neutral or pve zones looking for content

the thing is, both cheats and griefs hate playing against each other, and desire that of "casuals"... which depending on how well a open world like Albion or WoW or Dune started with and how quick the devs work to push better and better continued service for either new content or polishing/streamlining earlier parts of progression.. clearly as seen with DA due to poor management for a long while now it was high influx to basically quite less than "stable high player count" game
