Probably because they work by adding chunks of code, and trying to add multiple chunks is getting things in the wrong places.

sounds like basically any game with multiple mods the overwrite the same class or object or whatever, would guess to think like Bethesda games or Xcom2 where load order and conflict resolution is important. But I know nothing of how NMS mods work

Anybody knows how to hard insert an incompatible save into NomNom to edit it? I pretty much corrupted my save and my backup and now I can't access it, it doesn't show up in NomNom.
I have never used NomNom and i don't know much about how NMS saves work but typically if your save editor can't recognize the save you're trying to edit it's beyond repair

I usually just rely on the popup that identifies the properties of the thing being looked at, if they are all ??? then it hasn't been scanned. Likewise for creatures I tend to rely on the red dot vs green paw mark to know what has|hasn't been scanned.

this is especially annoying when i try to scan a tiny rock thats between some plants you know
id wish it was like it is with animals, they have a green paw or red dot above them clearly indicating they are there and (not)scanned
yeah I agree, that's why I look at the popup instead of the color, I mean the popup is there while you are scanning, just need to move your eyes to the left. annoying I agree. you could create a mod that changes the scan colors, but it looks like there may be some kind of blending that may still make some items tough to distinguish
couldnt modders add the same thing there alrdy is for animals? just have a blue dot hover above unscanned rocks and an idk yellow one above plants, turn it into a paw once its scanned
hmm, not sure about that, when scanning rocks and such the game may be hard-coded to do a color blend op instead of showing a marker like it does for creatures. I'll take a look later, but not optimistic that will be able to place markers like for creatures.
aww. well if you can just change the color that would help alrdy. its especially annoying with rocks when they look literally the same, but apparently its 3 different ones for no reason
You can change the colors to make them brighter, seems to help a bit.

it makes changes to a mbin that is changed by a number of mods, relatively high chance of conflict. It's a simple 2 edit change so I'd suggest doing a simple script, plenty of help on the NMS Modding discord to do that.

if the mod paks are small and you can drop here then I'll look at them in nmsmb to see if they already have conflicts or use gcgameplayglobals.global.mbin. otherwise download nmsmb, replace the libMBIN.dll w/ 3.90.0.2 (for non-exp release), and look for conflicts yourself - the app auto-checks for conflicts between all mod paks in the game MODS folder.

Instant_Actions_text_scan_settlement_building_and_refine modifies GCGAMEPLAYGLOBALS.GLOBAL.MBIN, so it would conflict unless you used scripts ... actually I can see that it was built w/ nmsmb and includes the scripts used to create it, can just update the script that modifies GCGAMEPLAYGLOBALS.GLOBAL.MBIN. guessing you don't want to try and do that, right ?

each script identifies one or mbin (files with config settings), and what changes should be made to the mbin's. when you use one of the tools to run the scripts the tool will grab the game version of the mbin then apply the edits specified by the script to create a modified version of the mbin. it then puts the modified mbin's into a new mod pak file.
and what is it missing?
two (or more scripts) that make unknown changes. so if I try to rebuild the mod pak without those scripts then whatever changes they made won't be in the new mod pak

If you are running steam public replace the libMBIN.dll with the one in the link I posted. If you are running steam experimental it will work out-of-the-box.

e.g. the one you sent didn't have config, or 999FastRefiners, both of which are in pak so were used when pak was built
To do that, you need to alter the file names <name>.pak, so the order changes

Is it possible to modify the game to increase the terrain generation distance? Even on advanced machines pop-in is still pretty drastic, and LODs absurdly low for a game about vistas and exploration. Is this fixable? I haven't seen a mod that does so yet

In general you may get mod issues for 3 main reasons:
- conflicts between mods (some mod features don't work)
- mod was built using out of date data (may cause crash)
- mod sets values the game can't handle (almost never happens)
You need to learn to use one of the tools to detect conflicts, either AMUMSS or NMSMB. I believe AMUMSS has option to detect when you run it, NMSMB will auto-detect. If you identify mods that conflict then you can come back with more focused questions on how to deal with conflict, but in general it's what we just went through, use the orig scripts from all the mods to build a merged mod pak.

No, as you add more mods the combinations become untenable for others to alaways help. I suggest downloading NMSMB, there is no installer you just unzip into a folder. The only thing you may have to change is the libMBIN.dll, you need to use a version specific to the game version you are running - don't recall what version of game you were running, is it steam public ?

From 1) you will unzip the downloaded NMSModBuilder.7z into something like d:\nmsmb
From 2) you downloaded libMBIN.dll 3.90.0.2 into x:\downloads\libMBIN.dll
So copy x:\downloads\libMBIN.dll into d:\nmsmb\ and overwrite the existing libMBIN.dll

The conflicts tab only shows if it finds conflcts in the current mods you have installed.
so it found none, but that one mod still crashes the game
If you goto one of the PAK Items tab the first combobox will list all the mod paks you have installed

Yeah, so there may have been breaking changes in one or more of the mbin's a mod uses between 3.89 and 3.90.

As you view the diffs for the mbin's in a given mod the left side of the diff view (game data) will have red lines if those lines aren't in the right side (mod data). That means the game won't be able to load those values from the mod and may cause it to crash
You want to identify what mbin's are so out of date they have those red entries on the left. you will want to rebuild that mod pak.
Hopefully the mod pak includes the scripts that were used to build it. If it was built using AMUMSS you will see *.lua scripts in the root folder for the mod. If it was built using NMSMB you will see a _SCRIPTS/ folder.
Yes, exactly. So you will need to save all the lua|cs script files to disk then use the appropriate tool to rebuild the mod pak.

If there are no mbin's in the mod pak that have red lines in the left view then the game should be able to load the mbin's in the mod pak. You need to check all your mods.
Even if all the mod authors update their mod's to the latest version you may still run into conflicts. There's no such thing as magic. π As with most games, resolving conflicts between mods takes a bit of work. However, using existing scripts to update a mod is usually trivial to do, just use the right tool and rebuild, usually a couple clicks.
But sure, up to each person what they are willing to do themselves. I've just tried to point the way to start dealing w/ this on your own, if not then as you say you'll have to wait|hope for updates.

Sure, like most things there is a learning curve. I guess you just need to weigh the cost of time to learn to do this yourself vs the benefits. If you plan to run the game with few mods then you can likely get away with not needing to know this stuff, however, if you are going to add more and more mods then it becomes harder and harder for others to help. π€·ββοΈ
found a method to get the underground fauna immediately
whenever u get to a planet dont just land
scan around to find a structure that has open caves and when u land go immediately inside
but like do it the first time u go to a planet
got 2 underground rares immediately twice in a row
on 2 differnet planets
so in hopes nothing else spawns first?
yup i think the game prioritises the cave when u do that

You mean the two versions of the no storm visor overlay? The UIGlobals version is slightly better, but will almost definitely conflict with something else you are running, so you'd need to use the no overlay texture version

If you are OK with your ship always drifting (which makes it feel a bit more like E:D), you can search for "DirectionBrake" in the script and set the value to 0 instead of 0.95

Hi everyone! I was wondering if asset spawn/loading mods or changes are a thing? im basically building a high way and i have mods that increase the speed of exocrafts but as I zoom down the road some of the panels (floors) are seen but not physically spawned in with collisions so sometimes I clip and fall through the "road". Is there anything out there that can super speed the loading of assets in game? Im also running on an SSD and 32gb of ram with a i7-9700k with an RTX 3070

Whatever yours is set to, take 1 or 2 away from NumHighThreads and add it/them to NumLowThreads and see if it helps. If not, revert.

Are there any mods that add additional filtering options to the galaxy map? For instance, if I only wanted to see stars that are in my warp range, or only see systems that I've already visited, or only see yellow stars? Also the economy filter is confusing and I wish it showed the strength of the economy rather than just the type :/
It would be nice to see info about stars without having to mouse over them. Just like, a floating icon for the lifeforms and economy strength and conflict level. Even just to see stellar classification at a glance without mousing over, that'd be nice.

well heres what causes the crash ONLY in my normal savefile (not in my expedition savefile) pressin 1 or 2 in space straight up crashes me. i tried to unbind these buttons (as they spawn freighter/anomalie for me) and it still crashes. cmkushnir helped me with some ideas. i uninstalled all mods. i "deleted" my settings in the settings folder, i used a save editor in hopes it fixes my savefile.
nothing of that helped, my normal savefile simply crashes when i press 1 or 2 in space. never had this problem in the past 80 hours
so if anyone has any ideas/help on what to do, pls let me know
oh and yes i can spawn freighter and anomalie just fine via the quick menu

Wiring/Logic parts are counted the same way as any other base part. If you wish to upload, you can have a maximum of 3,000 parts total for a base. Without upload you can have a max global limit of 16,000 parts. And no, that setting only allows parts to end up outside of base range, similar to how 'portable' parts can be placed anywhere. Not wise to use for base building, especially when it involves a network (power/resource/teleport).

well its giving me an arbitrary error that buttons have a limit of 10 per base so clearly there is some special check for that which i am trying to bypass somehow
I mean doors in general are a quite ass backwards design clearly when the devs decided doors needed wiring to operate they never bothered to think about or update electronic wiring limitations to actually support more than a small number of doors
Steam: Seems to get the latest releases first, gets experimental versions. Biggest downside is that if there is an update available it generally won't run until you update. This is a pain for mods as many mods break when a new release comes out until mbincompiler is updated, which can take a day or several weeks.
GoG: May get a release a day or so after steam, has had periods where it didn't get experimental versions (not sure about now). Nice in that you can pick what version you want to use, so you can stay on older version until mbincompiler updated.
GamePass: Used to be unable to mod, then could mod w/ a hack, believe can now mod as normal (not 100% sure). Not sure about when it gets updates or if it gets experimental versions.
What is GoG?
I remember sending a few formal physical letters to valve back in the day pressing the need for proper version control for game updates but never heard back they just dont care even though it would take very little to add a version history and version selection option. I mean for some games the devs might want to disable that for cheating and security reasons if its a online title but tbh it should be an option thats available

I use windows defender because Microsoft has a vested interest in their system running right. I haven't had one issue yet. Developed software for anti-virus (3rd party) apps before, and I can tell you there are several and I would bet most that are simply "virus" controllers. Remember that when you install them you are usually giving the software full control and access to everything.

And right as cmkushnir said, if there is more risk for GOG going bankrupt or whatever then I suppose at that point you wouldn't have access to online. The easiest ways are to edit account data to give yourself access to the golden vector, or use Consumerism mod to buy it. If you want to change a ship into a golden vector, you have to do manual JSON editing to change the model

Hallo! I had a quaaastion about a specific mod: SACS (Selection Augmentation for Colour System). Namely, if I were to use the vanilla-palettes-only version, and then at some hypothetical future point uninstall it, would my base objects retain the colour that I had set them to through the mod? Because essentially, the mod doesn't let you do anything that the vanilla game doesn't already allow you to do, it just makes it a whole lot easier to select the colours you want... so if the mod is uninstalled it should keep those colours, yeah?
I'm not interested non-vanilla palettes, I wanna keep everything as clean and un-modded-ish as possible, but just get an easier way of selecting the palettes that are already available.

SACS custom colours are designed to go before basic wall colours because they're all shit brown so if you use those shit browns and then remove SACS then those will shift

if you have extra colour palettes from SACS and remove it, your shit browns will shift to other shit browns because the values are stored in a list and the game only stores the index instead of the colour palette ID
solution is easy - just don't remove it

Im currently running better planet generator from WoodyMontana because I thought the base vanilla game seemed awfully empty in terms of enviornment and pretty repetative so I decided to change it.
I have seen the fantasy mod as well and was curious but seems like it changes so much so Idk
It changes quite a bit, but I do enjoy it. Better planet generation is really good, I would also recommend back to foundation but idk if it works now
Duds Sky is great for graphics, Exoβs grass fix is a must have cause if the velvety grass it has
Out of better planet generation vs the fantasy mod one which do you think is best? Also enjoying some of the colors already from some will the grass one conflict with the better planet grass? Some of that grass is super nice
Nah, Iβm pretty sure Exoβs will just upgrade that grass, it just makes the textures smoother and less patchy.
I mean to each their own, NMS Fantasy is more wild and random, while BPG is a bit more contained but still incredibly unique
Fantasy has a tendency to distort assets weirdly in cool ways most of the time but just keep it in mind lol, BPG is a bit less random with the asset mixing lol

It resized assets a bunch so trees can be gigantic and you can have tiny tiny volcanos and stuff lol
Yeah probably, my 3080 runs it at a smooth 140 fps so the 2080 should get at least 60 in the best case
Itβs mainly a GPU stress so make sure your computer doesnβt implode in that case

It doesn't un-discover them, but the planet will generate everything based on the mods you have installed, but use the names of the discovered stuff. Discovery is all stored on servers.

- i ve done a terrain mod that keeps default ground level ( which make it compatible when you add/ remove the mod
- you have the option to remove terrain shape changes, to have a better experience when meeting unmodded players
for example this is meeting point 4 of expedition 7 , and someone bombed my screenshot π
and made sentinels angry, which made me run away and almost die
You won't lose much of BPG if you run it before Fantasy.
it was funny, all of it happened when i was in photomode, i saw the guy coming behind me, and get attacked by a sentinel drone
Obviously subjective but which is better BPG or Fantasy? BPG seemed like the planets were crazier in therms of geography but Idk im trying to find a good dedicated save mod to run and idk which to choose.

Make sure Fantasy is placed below BPG in your MOD folder.

It will overwrite my changes to vanilla planets but Fantasy relies on them for its whole functioning.
You won't lose much from BPG.

The terrain change from BPG are managed by the optional modules : Alien Terrain and Better Terrain.
Fantasy ones are included in the planet gen pack.

Oh Redmas whats the difference between the mods folder and archive version in your mod? Which do I drop into the mods folder?
simply the install ( the features are the same )
in archive version, its done in a way you find specific pak more easily

while in "mods" they are all put in the same folder, for quick use ( that you can trim down )

yes, that will replace a part of BPG with my generation, but you will still have a good part of his. ( at least it is what i understand, but since i dont know how he did it, i am not sure exactly the repartition of fantasy vs BPG )
No worries finally starting my "main save" now on expedition mode so I have a free survival save at the end and all the extra stuff :)

Oh another question. So say I have a modded save with terrain etc. And say I want to play without mods for whatever reason. If I disable it and load up my save vanilla things will obviously be different. BUT what happens if I re load those mods? Will it be the same as before I switched to vanilla or will it generate everything randomly again?
There is a pin in this channel that explains most possible effects. It is very likely that the terrain is just back to how it should be without mods when switching back, to be modded again when mod is active.
However, terrain manipulation or things involved with terrain can still remain present in vanilla or modded, depending on where it was used. Think using your terrain manipulator on vanilla terrain, to then have those same changes applied to modded client. Or having built on top of terrain that has now changed.

I am not all that familiar with what is out there. Arrgh's water is often recommended. Sean is a 'must have'! Jasondude has some good ones I believe. Then we have Gumsk with all the g-mods. Maybe do a search on Nexus for latest updated, scroll up here, or perhaps stop by the modding discord itself.

so like in dark souls, as soon as the game's servers detect ANY file edits , it will shadow ban you and throw you in modded servers where you get slaughtered by invincible dudes over and over again and im trying to avoid that in this game if there is that
