i know...its just not the same....like in subnautica, it would play through the jukebox and through the speakers that wirelessly connect to it, and the volume would change as you get closer or further away, same with the seatruck, and you could control the songs through the game...just more immersive is all
yo i'm curious- i've messed around with a couple worldgen mods now but i'm conflicted. I know multiplayer still technically works with them but I want to experience the seamlessness of that aspect of the game, esp projects like the galactic hub. at the same time i find basegame worldgen wayy too boring to play through without it. Is there a good middle ground or am i just stuck committing to only really being able to play with my friends running the same mod?
There's no real middle ground, unless you use something just just changes flora/fauna/colors, no terrain

Maybe it was running away from snow.
Just because you cannot see water doesnt mean there was none, it's quite rare, but the average terrain level can both be close to sea level and more or less unbroken across over 50% of a planets surface.
So my ship was freaking out over a body of water it cannot even touch? In upper athmo?
Upper atmo is well out of range of that mechanic, so you were just fighting with the ship trying to reorient according to gravity - that's like a car skidding, turning into it is generally the quickest way to regain control as opposed to fighting it.
So unlike before, we cannot travel in upper athmo anymore? I'm either flying to space or or towards the ground
I clearly remember being able to take advantage of the higher speeds when travelling between biomes before

I honestly find flying with M/K more enjoyable than flying with gamepad after setting M/K up proper. I'm annoyed that you can't set up "expert controls" type of flying for Gamepad so I'm staying away from it.
(read: fly as if you would a jet, for example. Rotate the ship with left/right, shift it with L1/R1. )
My issue is with mouse and keyboard the controls feel like you slog through maple syrup.

I just wish I could get my HOSAS to function for this game. Thrustmasters. Good stuff... but the last time I tried, the best I could accomplish was to use three different programs, and at best the sticks just emulated gamepad analogue sticks... and not actual HOSAS.
EDIT: Oh yes, and then there is the god-awful shooting, as well as the inability to turn off gimbaled weapons.... since EVERY weapon that isn't the rockets are gimbaled.

When you sell a ship, does the index of other ships change?
Like if I got 3 ships, index 1 2 3, and I sell ship 2, will ship 3 become the new βship 2β or it will remain βship 3β?
No, the index stays the same
That's why it gets weird to determine what ship is summoned when you scrap a ship. It takes the lowest index, but that gets muddled over time

They can only help so much. The game engine only provides so much information to be reshaded. You can use mods to increase the light sources, but I heard at least one, Relight, is not updated

What are seeds?
a random number that a game or software could use in various ways. With NMS they use them for pretty much all proc gen stuff like ships, tools, plants, animals, planets etc
NMS is just a big stack of seeds
Sharing system coordinates for a good S-tier ship etc. would be the equivalent of sharing a good world seed in Minecraft

I'm not sure if NomNom supports raw JSON editing yet, so you might want to get GoatFungus's NMSSE. After opening the save, go to Edit at the top, Edit Raw JSON. At the top is 'Version'. Change that to 4650. Save as you close the JSON then save again on the main tab. That's it.

Thank you for the feedback. I used icons I had initially made for myself in a way old version for Gimp/Photoshop in 2018. So I just copied those over and made them the tile size 32x32 (Medium/large refiners). I then started adding a few more icons by drawing them in the same style idea I had back then (large tray, teleporter, trade terminal, save point, cooker, planter). After that I just got lazy grabbing icons from the game and making them fit.
The old way has the advantage of not being stuck to the grid per se, while this tools is. I guess I could replace the other icons with source icons. It will remain tiny though and although you could normally fill a room with those, you can't on the planner, as they depend on the 'room-size' grid.

borked quest triggers means I can't continue my quests and I was recommended to go back a step using a save editor
to see if I can get the trigger to work (since multiplayer borks triggers)
Set the mission active in game and save. Open save editor and go to Edit -> Edit Raw JSON. Find PlayerStateData\CurrentMissionID. Use that value to search in PlayerStateData\MissionProgress. Adjust the Progress value up or down to try to step forward or backwards. Save as you close the JSON, save on the main save editor tab, reload the save in game. Repeat until you find a Progress value that works.

When i am jumping around and using the melee to accelerate trick to jump forward much further with thrusters. My damage goes up to 3 arrows and is a bit of a nuisance

It seems that PlayerState.2 is a manual save data and PlayerState.1 is an autosave data. what's unknown to me is PlayerState.3 and PlayerState.4.

It's only possible in a fairly complicated JSON edit, and it's not visible in multiplayer. It's better to use the bot on the Creative and Sharing Hub discord that builds seeds to match input

You need to be standing on terrain for the companion unlocker mod to work - for flying fauna, easiest to catch em in an overscaled biodome.
So, I spent a stupid amount of time trying to add light refraction effects to my black hole mod. Two refraction effects were added. A gravity wave effect that is like ripples in a pond being slowly pulled inward toward the horizon, and a subtle light pinching effect closer to the horizon that bends light inward toward the blackness. It's hard to show in pictures, but I'll try:
(Since the refractions work by bending light, I'll show pics of the sun passing behind the black hole so it is easier to see the effects.)

That mod is a shader mod. Not going to happen unless 1 or maybe 2 people want to try to redo it. Even then, it might be so impractical that it really can't be done.

TERRA FIRMA needs to load last, overwriting the terrain of Fantasy (assuming ti still has terrain). It will cause no issues.

whelp. on goes the seach for a good power hotspot for a real base :/
seems to get asked every couple months. problem is hotspots don't seem to have any entity associated with them, they seem to be a product of the binoc scanning code. so that prevents auto-marking when you get in range, or creating charts to find them. the best you can do is either mod the param for them e.g. make all power hotspots S class, and|or disable hotspot requirements when placing em generators i.e. can place them anywhere. maybe at some point someone will create an scene|descriptor|entity for them so they can be marked.

The message you are getting is about trying to start a base at a location where another base is already located. Multiplayer has nothing to do with this, as player bases are present regardless. You will just have to find another location

Do you mean its intersecting with one of my other bases or another player that put a base on that planet and its somehow gotten registered in my save ?
If its the former thats easy to resolve if its the later than that indicates some very bad coding given that other player's assets should not exist in a single player game unless those players have been invited to the group in which case even if there is a conflict you can just have the current iteration supersede structures placed by guests and not render the conflicting base
Either way I resolved the issue with a save editor by just placing the base computer elsewhere and moving it to the hotspot that was being blocked so i could set up the miners
Bases will be present and loaded regardless of having MP enabled or not. You'd have to disconnect your internet, or connection to the server to fully disable this mechanic.
Now if there is actually no base present within range at that location at all (yours or another player's), you could report this as a bug with the check done, not the mechanic itself.

ok so i've warped into the same system without gship custom freighters unified, and it loaded ok (coords in case you want to run a test on your end, calypso). before that i've also tried with unified again, same thing as last night, infinite loop happened
after talking to you i noticed that unified has other freighter models than just harrower/imperial ii/pegasus

i've played with harrower pak before, and i didn't experience any infinite loadings with that one

- tested with unified pak, no other mods in mod folder, infinite loading
and previously mentioned 3, without any custom freighter mod, no issue
also, reminder, it's only this particular system so far

Q: How does the platform save transfer work?
A: First open the "Platform Transfer" section on the Manager page where you'll then see some selections and text fields. The "LID" (Local ID), "UID" (User ID), and "USN" (USerName) are used to identify the owner of something (base or discovery) and needs to be changed in the process to give you access to your things on the new platform. This will be automatically filled if possible (you need at least one base in any of your saves) and doesn't need to be changed, except you know what are you doing. The source is filled with data from the normally loaded saves you see on the left. Click on the "Target Path" button to select the destination and it will also fill automatically if possible. If both is set up, select the slots you want to use and click the copy icon button to start the transfer. Once NomNom is responsive again you are done and you can start up your save on the new platform! To see it on the new platform in NomNom you have to switch the main save path to it afterwards.
Also note that there is currently a bug, that wont let you overwrite an existing slot. Make sure to select an empty one as target.

The flashlight seems to be tied to the character's initial standing position. For example, if you sit down and use a flashlight, the light will not come from the character, but from the air above him.

NomNom is capable of changing the format from Steam saves to Game Pass saves, or the other way around. So technically with your Xbox account, you could get your Steam saves compatible with Game Pass and then use the cloud to use those saves on your Xbox console

@smoky patio If you do all correctly with the transfer, the only issue that remains is any bases you have, as they now all of a sudden exist in the exact same location on both platforms. So once all is done and setup right, it might be wise to remove any bases on one of the platforms, to ensure they only exist once

It is not really a big problem, just something the transfer can not handle for you. And sadly enough not mentioned often enough to possible be an issue. It can be easily fixed, but requires deleting any of those bases in-game for the platform you do not want to keep the duplicate on

You have your Steam save, and you create a duplicate Xbox/GamePass save from it. This means both are exactly equal. However, keep in mind when on one account, you will not be owner for whatever shows from the other, as you are a guest to that account's bases. You will of course also only see bases you actually uploaded on the other account, if they even show at all. You can only edit or delete what belongs to the account you loaded into. I would personally likely find it easier to do any deletion through the editor itself. Of course make sure to check if all has gone as planned first. And if you decide to keep the bases on the new platform after transfer, these will not yet have been uploaded.
It may sound more complicated than it needs to be, especially when new to options like this, but if you give it some thought, it will all start to make sense, I hope

Yes, moving a base is actually quite easy.
Only problem is often to get it to fit well, matching the new location

It requires a save editor, then advanced editing of the Raw JSON. You look for the data that makes up your base, copy it aside. Then in-game you go to the new location, placing a Base computer to get the location data, then add all the base data to it, minus the previous base computer.

You will need either NomNom, or NMSSE. I would currently recommend NMSSE, as JSON editing is just easier with it. NomNom can do the same things and possibly more, but it is in beta, and the JSON editor is not quite as easy to use just yet (he's working on it though)
It is perfectly safe, as long as you begin with making a backup of your saves before trying either
If you have your backup, you can mess up all you want.
Other than that, it just needs some explaining where to find the data, how the formatting of JSON works, and what exactly to copy and paste back in once you got your new base computer in place

The .exe you downloaded is a self-extracting package. Create a folder for it and call it NMSSE or alike. Then double-click the executable to have it extract the content

Then scroll down quite a ways to find 'PersistentPlayerBases'
Open that as well and you see numbers like so [0], [1], etc

Ok, now if you look at all the data, starting at the top. You will see position and info that makes up the location. Then followed by 'Objects', which is all the base parts with info for those.

You will have to copy the full part on the right, and paste it aside in a text editor
of wghich folder. like the postiitoning? or objects which do i copy

You click the number for the base you found, on the left, then all the data is needed on the right
You can use <ctrl>+<A> to select all, then <ctrl>+<C> to copy
i copied it all
With that copied to clipboard, open a text editor and <ctrl> + <V> to paste

In the game, you need to find a new location for the base. Now keep in mind where the base you copied, has the base computer, as the new location where you are now going to place a base computer is going to need to be the same (relatively), but at a new spot

Once you have placed the new base computer and activated it, you can save the game again and close it to the main menu
thje base computer is also in the station its all in the air none of it is in the sky

The idea is to use the editor to copy the base parts but put it at the new computer. We are using this new computer to mark the location of where the new base is going to be

Ok, so save and close to the main menu. Now we need to check the text editor and go back to the Save Editor, which should say the save has updated, asking ot confirm

So in the text editor, where you find the BASE_FLAG, the full block of data needs to be removed

Now in the text editor, we also ONLY need all the other base parts
Because the position and everything else is already in the save editor for that new base
You can see that all the base parts are listed under 'Objects' on the right, just like the computer was.

No, you need to copy all the 'Objects' from the text editor into the Save Data for the new base, so they are then also in the 'Objects' together with the BASE_FLAG there

So you start copying at the first curly bracket after 'Objects' on the next line. Then scroll all the way to the last part.
Now depending on how many parts your base has, you may need to scroll quite a ways

Now you paste those into the save data after the BASE_FLAG, and make sure you did not mess up formatting (commas, brackets, etc)

That is the text where you deleted the base computer. You need to select all the objects from there and paste those in the save editor.
