Hi there! im making a youtube video using this amazing game and im wondering if anyone knows how to get closer to a true spectator camera? ive used the in game photo mode but i really wish it was a "video mode" as the photo mode tends to "freeze" the subjects in place. Thanks in advance!
If you are in an online room with another player, photo mode wont have the time stopping effect
I don't mind simpler movement but even the simple format is executed poorly imo

It's first in (hopefully, if I can be arsed) a series of mods changes everything base-building related (as long as there is not an existing mod doing the same thing).

Almost everything in the game is procedurally generated, including ships. So when you look in your save file to see the info for your ship you will just see the seed value used to proc gen it. I believe there is a way to specify a custom list of parts in the save file, but I think only you would see it, not other network players. The discord server No Man's Sky - Creative & Sharing Hub has a bot you can use to specify the list of parts and colors you want, and it will then iterate through seed brute forcing the parts from them until it finds a seed that has the parts you asked for. That's about the closest to a ship editor at the moment.

I'm not against modding or save editing, but I think I would feel more accomplished if I spent a lot of effort and resources building the perfect ship myself
There is someone else who is working on an in-game editor for certain values e.g. color of sky, height of mountains, ... But I don't think a ship editor is in their scope, again as the game gens them from a seed value, but it would allow you try diff seeds while in the game (not have to reload a save to see what the seed looks like).
If the bot and the in-game editor could be made to work together then that might give you your in-game ship editor.
I think it would be cool if on those crashed ships you donβt repair the ship but instead you can get a part from it. You could store that part in inventory and use it to build a ship or replace a part of your ship.
Yeah, if mjstral and rayrod got their code together we could probably frankencode something to do this. Adding new ship part products and getting as rewards we could do via mod, but to use them to gen a seed in-game would require their stuff.

I am always worried that the Roamer will run over everything.. but the Nautlion, mm I have wanted it to be an attack sub with speed. Got upgrades,. But still want some speed on it! This sounds like it might help push it a bit further

I have a problem with only three solutions: the hangar entry is really big. I can 1) have a huge, chunky hangar entry hanging off the model, 2) make the SR2 much bigger than canon to help hide the hangar, 3) make the SR2 a standalone freighter so I can delete the bulky parts of the hangar entry

been trying to find a mod that increases probability of colliding planets, is that a thing by chance?
I have been told that finding anything planet specific is not really a mod but unmoddable rng, even for me when trying to look for say more mega exotic red planets
from the mods people have told me about it either changes something surfscd side, or a mod that would change something that has a chance of just not changing

So if a mod was made without a lua file (e.g. throwing its pak in modscripts in AMUSS and decompiling yields no lua file) does that make it effectively impossible to create a compatibility patch?
I'm trying to get Eucli-EA to play nice with Snappy Industry (no lua) and gbase's item pak (eucli conflicts with both, but the latter 2 don't conflict with each other) and it does seem to be properly handling Eucli/gbase conflicts but Snappy seems to be getting ignored.
(For reference I used the lua file from Eucli and the other's pak file in modscripts to create the patch, renamed it as per Eucli's instructions with tildas, and left all original paks in the mods folder)

I literally forgot.. wasn't there a way to attach scanner on living ship via editor? I recall it was either change the scanners type to bioship related one or change living ship's code to get the game mistaken it as a mechanical one yet still retain appearance of living ships.

If you're not referring to the god-tier glitch, you can save edit a Living Ship, change the reference pointer to the mbin for a mechanical ship, achieving the same thing - the ship will have LS internals but appear mechanical, allowing you to install scanners and other mech tech. However, the game validates the ship every session and will wipe the mech tech off each time.
Yeah, that would be it which I saw back then. Having a mechanical techs as internals, yet keeping LS appearance.

No, there's a way to build a mechanical ship then skin it with Living - the reverse of what I explained earlier, change the reference from mech ship mbin to bioship.

No, it just changes the valid type of ship for the tech items, so they can be installed and don't get deleted from living ships. It doesn't do anything to the slots.

Hey I'm trying to save edit to delete 2 of 4 multi tools I have. When I load up my save I only have 1 and it has no slots or tech. What am I doing wrong? In the save editor it's tool "0" and "1" and I'm wanting to keep 3&4

I'm having issues with 4x5 inventories not displaying correctly, instead displaying 5x4 but shifting all the slots.
It's happening to all my saves, so I'm trying to see if anyone is having this issue and if it can be remedied with a mod or something.
Easiest way to check is by looking at storage containers in the Freighter inventory screen (only 16 slots will be visible)

I'm using NMS Save Editor by Goat Fungus -- a few questions:
1 - is there a way to view the stats provided by technology upgrades? It looks like that info. isn't visible b/c it just has a number for the mod when you delve it (like S-Class upgrade - 85765 or some value like that)
2 - I can view other peoples' settlements. If I modify the stats on those settlements, how does that work with what is out there in the world? In my game, I could take the population of someone else's settlement from like 50 to 100 -- but in their save file i guess it would stay 50, so I would see it as 100 but them as 50 if they visited the settlement?

2 - You're getting that data either from a server or from the owner's save file. I'm guessing that data would overwrite yours or it would only affect you. It's extremely unlikely your change would flow back and affect anyone else.
I can understand your hesitation, If you are truly nervous at first you could try smaller mods that have a more immediate and noticeable effect that way you can rest easy being able to see that the mods are working. One mod that might fit this would be mods that only change the color of space / planetary sky colors. I know there is a more updated mod somewhere that would change the color of space so that instead of being so bright and colorful its instead black in color
I am currently looking into creating mods for the game because I truly do enjoy no mans sky but there are quite a lot of rough edges I feel could be expanded

If you know some of the basic c# syntax, or just study the supplied scripts, you can use NMSMB to do script based changes to mbin's and create new mod pak files.
If you know lua you can use AMUMSS to do similar.

Have asked about this in #nms-questions but couldn't find answers. Hoping the folks who play legacy NMS can help: I've set up a Next install on PC that's broken somehow. When starting a new save in any mode, no textures load. I can see the HUD, access all menus, see build icons etc but all I see around me is the sky (with some awful color banding to boot). It's a fresh install (meaning no mods, shader cache and settings files have been wiped). I do get a shader error dump each time I load or create a save in any mode but it's not of much use to me. Any ideas on how to fix this?
note: Atlas Rises (manifest ID: 8262658978126728861) and Beyond (manifest ID: 6896425777644603761) work normally. Only Next (manifest ID: 4290382675093577172) and Visions (manifest ID: 6471841705658871471) have this issue.

Can you run current NMS fine?
If so, you might be dealing with bugs on those versions relating to GPU drivers. I can remember some people on certain cards having to use specific drivers for some versions.

Okay, so your current GPU/driver setup works with Vulkan. Next and visions are both post Vulkan right?
A similar case happened to a friend when he tested a pirate version to see if he could run it properly. He told me he's buying it anyway and hoping he doesn't refund it due to a similar bug, so this brings me hope that the current version will run properly in his side.
I think pre-Vulkan. IIRC, the Vulkan update happened in April 2019.

Also, mod wise, am I the only to mod the font just to get something more sci-fi appropiate? I personally think Roboto looks a bit too... default.
What's most funny about it is AR works perfectly. All of the files are from Steam too.
Only other thing I can see in Visions/Next is a transparent ship HUD. Nothing else is visible.

There were a lot of driver issues during the OPEN-GL era. Open-GL has a long history of being super picky.
95% or so of the issues with drivers and Open-GL with NMS at that time were AMD issues.
During that phase, there were people including me that figured out specific drivers for NMS versions for AMD. I can't remember any of it though lol.
I don't know if that's your issue, just makes me wonder.
There is also a possibility that...did you delete/refresh any shader cache?
Your card might have it's own cache and NMS had a dedicated cache too.

That very much looks like a shader issue to me. either missing shaders (doubtful) or a driver not processing sketchy/edgy shader coding by HG. Which def fits the driver issues at the time. If you really wanted to get it going, you might try searching on reddit or here for specific AMD driver versions that correspond to specific NMS versions that were known to work.
Yeah, might try one more thing before biting the bullet and looking for an older driver. I do get an error log during gameplay but the information isn't intelligible to me.

I'm not super good with shaders, but what this tells me is that as Open-GL tried to compile the shader code using the Open-GL code that was "designed" specific to your GPU, there was an error. There is a very high chance it's caused by an Open-GL compatibility issue.

That's what I would do. Pretty sure you're looking for a specific Open-GL version in a driver that will be compatible with the HG shader code.
The problem is, it's not going to be easy to just try some because well...there are a lot. The only thing I can think of is either trying some from slightly before the date of the NMS release because it was always the case that the current AMD driver had an issue but reverting 2 or 3 versions before did the trick, or looking here or reddit for info. I don't know anyone that kept that data for any reason.
Or possibly even trying to ask some legacy players with AMD?

Aha. Found a post about issues around 2019 where someone suggested that Radeon sw 18.12.1.1 was stable. Did a clean install of it and sure enough, it works!

When you alt tab a tiny blue bar appears at the center bottom of the screen with another tiny slider inside that bar going left and right (like a loading animation) which I think is AFK counter or a game pause
To get better ships and stuff there is a 3 hours warm up period (so I hear)
when that appears (when you alt tab) does the 3 hours counter still goes on or you have to be focused on the game screen for 3 hours without alt tabbing?

First of all, if you are even interested in using mods, there are a few good ones....anyway, how hard is it for you to put a pad definitely less than 45 deg but definitely not flat? Say somewhere between 20 deg and 40 or something. Is that an easy thing for you to test?

Do you mean clearance to terrain or do you mean anything like building props?
Imagine the circle on pads is the face of a cylinder 85u in length that must remain collision-free - terrain, flora, minerals, existing structures/tech, and built objects all capable of interfering.

At best I've seen an SRT embedded in the ceiling so when the other is used it spits you out in the hangar.
ah - SRTs is what i was interested in. I'm pretty comfy getting the part edited to that space, but for me the question is one of cabling. (you know... assuming the game doesn't totally barf.)
@twilit smelt Build a pair of SRTs at a random base and connect them, to compare the SRT positioning to that of the cable - make sure the SRTs are oriented the way you want them in the Freighter, and you should be able to math out the cable endpoints after positioning the SRTs.

texture mods p much never breaks unless the vanilla one is changed in the way it was used
and if the vanilla texture is changed to be used in a different way, you just need to remake it from the ground up

The save editor can do this in a number of ways. If you're a console player getting the save where you can edit it will be a bit of a chore though
Save editor can do that too if you know how. There's two settings for a freighter. One is it's general seed - what it looks like. The other is it's home system seed. That defines the crew.

Are xbox players able to play w you while you mod?
Depends on how much the mod changes the game
If it is pretty much Vanilla+, as in things that don't massively overhaul the game or change things completely, then yes Crossplay will still be possible.
However, there are some mods that change things so much that they do disable multiplayer, but you'll know them when you see them because when you head into the nexus there'll never be any players around with it installed.
So mods that allow you to resize objects in build mode and mods that add more color variation for different things will still allow multiplayer, but the mods that change colors will be clientside and other players won't be seeing the same thing you're seeing. They'll still allow multiplayer, though.
There are even mods specifically made for multiplayer, like the ones that allow you to call your freighter even when your friend's is already in the same system.

Yeah, custom ships and custom freighters both work by adding onto the existing pool, Golden Vector and capital freighters, respectively

@vale iron Have you looked into whether the Royal MT mbin can be used the same way? 10 total model variations is a smaller pool than cap. freighters at 12, not counting bridge variations.
If I knew how to make custom multitools, it could very likely be used the same way. I'm just worried there are a lot of moving parts, like hand/finger placement, support hand placement, where the MT sits on the model, animations, etc. So, I don't think I could just take a custom model off Sketchfab and plop it down in NMS very easily.
I see, my guess about the issue being pool size and/or separate model parts required was off base - pretty sure Royal MTs are single model objects like squid exotics - I only play in 1st person so I didn't even think about animations and such lol.
Yeah, I honestly haven't looked, but I would guess it's just one entry in the descriptor table and the colors are procgen like the ships, so a little like the Golden Vector, just with color added
Someday I'm going to dig in and find out how procedural colors work and start dyeing all my ships and freighters π

No, there's a json section for CharacterCustomization with 16or18 slots, it's where your outfits, vehicle, and freighter customizations are saved, but if you know the palettes used and which slots to put em in, you can add entries that affect ships and MTs

@vale iron So for Living Ships, BodyPrime and UnderbellyAlt1 are what I've been able to use to control armour colours, BodyAlt1 and UnderbellyPrime for skin, and CockpitPrime controls the instruments panel. Haven't nailed down any more than that yet, but am 70% sure MetalPrime is lower cockpit interior

What I'm super curious about is Royal Exotics - I havent tested those yet, but I think you were only off slightly. There'd be no way to account for all 5 colours with Rock palette, but Sand has 5 options

Trim is also wonky, the only thing I know about that is silver trim is hard capped at 431.0 base maneuverability - but gold trim can spawn lower so it's not either/or

Yeah, my ship coloring save editing article has the palette as Rock, which I got from the scene file I think, but DHarhanWulf is thinking it might be Sand because it seems to have more options available than Rock does.
