Not sure if that is actually a wise idea, because currently I believe there is an issue when saving there, to then load back in. It will cause the Office to not be rendered, until you try to move away or something
LOL. That is exactly what has been happening all along. I just figured it was slow rendering because I am on a way under minimum video card (gtx 750 ti)
Not sure how big of an issue this actually is though.
But yeah, it will not render until you have moved away. Likely a fail-safe of some sort?
I learned that. And there is some kind of fail safe because when I would get tangled up in the walls, etc. it would ultimately free me.
I noticed because I had my ship parked in front of the door. Used it for saving, and quick access to the office. If I move inside fast enough (the exterior does load for me), it will not draw the interior, until I get out the door again
I wish there was the same fail safe for your starship when it gets stuck in a freighter or frigate. Just hate sitting there until the pirates kill you.

@echo bridge This is exactly why I built my save point in my own building by modding base boundaries. I found save points in settlement buildings work weirdly.

in the description, it says "To tame air and sea creatures you must be on foot. That's a limitation of the game so wait till the air creature flys low or the sea creature is close to the shore. Or build a plattform in or above the water or a air tower."

So, faster refiner mods don't work for some reason.
I don't have any other mods
I was using some other mods and I thought that's why it didn't work but I deleted the other mods and only tried the refiner mod, it still didn't work.
I just don't want to wait 20 minutes refining stuff

It is updated. I tried two. One from the cool mod site and one from a guy who sent it here.
None of them worked.

have you tried loading in with only the fast refiner mod loaded to see if it works like that?
what are your other mods? did you read the Merging/Updating Process section of the Refiner mod's description?
I did not read the merging updating thing, it looked complicated.
It should work since it was updated for frontiers and there is a user on the Posts section of the mod that stated that it worked after Frontiers update - but on the Merging/Updating Process it states the .lua needs to be merged using a tool called AMUMSS if 'NMS_REALITY_GCRECIPETABLE.MBIN' is affected by any other mods
Someone here did that for me and sent the file here. That still didn't work.
I am not familiar with that tool but I assume it functions as a mod merger, fixing incompatibilities between mods

I suspect, and would chance a guess, that that may only work if you're personally the one to merge it (?) I am not familiar with the tool but if the unique combo of mods that you have is what is getting merged in that .lua, that would make sense in my mind

Normally I would say that I'm stupid for a mistake like this but I would like to blame no man's sky.
The mod IS working. It was taking 4 minutes to refine the thing I had. That was too slow for me so I thought the mod wasn't working. Without the mod it's taking 40 MINUTES. What the hell.

It is not that hard.
Find the .lua file
Edit the .lua file
Save the .lua file into .pak
but the hard part is I think finding the correct lines (in the .lua file) to be tweaked. It would have been easier if you directly ask the modifier for which lines/data

Yours is multiplying normal times by .1 (or dividing them by 10). Mine just makes them all very small.

Fair. I mean, technically, anything short of waiting for the perfect trader or continuously hunting crashed ships until vanilla gives you an S class is also cheating.
It ultimately comes down to a question: would you rather "cheat" (in a game with zero competition where cheating doesn't actually affect anyone), or would you rather grind your life away for untold hours? @ancient idol

Agreed. Only reason to cheat would be that the vanilla game design regarding the step you want to cheat feels like a pointless, boring waste of time to you. A game being uncompetitive doesn't immediately provide incentive to cheat, but it does, for many people, make cheating perfectly ethical (unlike cheating in competitions)
yep - personally i think i'd use or consider using, what might fall into "rebalancing mods"; for example, that freighter rescue chromatic metal reward

If you are using an exotic that has extra animations like wings folding or squid arms retracting, you aren’t going to make it faster unless you make the animations faster. I don’t know of a mod that does that.
The only thing you can do is save edit the JSON to changed the pet descriptors, but those aren't catalogued anywhere. You'd have to dig through the model files to find out the right piece names

There is a lot of sun light color on that grass making it more yellow. Look at the triangle in the background.

Those are really nice. They apparently don't do well with the ones I am installing via amumss tho (parallax and some other QOL stuff)
Several things I just learned while playing in VR with my size modified.
1- your view is where your head is, unlike when playing on a monitor, at scale 4 I was literally looking over the top of my 3 story base just standing still.
2- your hands also scale, anything above scale 2.5 is pretty much unusable, as your enlarged hands cover your menus or pass right through them when trying to select stuff.
3- some of the pets normally not obtainable like the red orbs from metallic planets simply show up as a 2d image that kind of throws them off
Scale 1.5 was comfortable, I was still quite a bit taller than anyone, looking down (literally) at all the other players, as well as patting diplo pets on the head, which is wildly entertaining for some reason. Geks do not appreciate being petted apparently, as one player sent me a few faecium after petting him which I can only conclude as an act of throwing poo at me

The only actual risk is the experience. Mods that give you an advantage over progress immensely ruins the experience of playing the game. For example, you edit your save file and change your current starship into a living without doing the questline for that instead. I learned this the hard way when I gave myself infinite items and skill points in Cyberpunk 2077. I never touched the game since. I was so hyped for the game and now that I have everything there's no point in playing.

and then mod or cheat the hell out pof them
@agile quarry @maiden hamlet The risk is with adjusting system time to try bypass the game timers. A proper mod doesn't adjust this, but reduces the wait time instead. This means you should not be running any risk for that matter.

i've been playing with https://github.com/UNOWEN-OwO/NMS-Save-Parser/blob/main/convert.py, which should take your frontiers-style compressed NMS save and spit out mapped json, and i can't get any output.
fyi duping has been fixed. The way to make money right now is to make use of crafting. This money making strategy is also kind of mandatory for leveling crafting tbh.

to follow up on this since i haven't seen any info on it...
completing the expedition seems to be the only thing i've gotten to reset the random roll for character, multi-tool and starship designs you get when starting a new expedition save. replicated the same experience twice so far, at least on Xbox. trying to create new unfinished saves at different times (within and past 24 hours) made no difference...same roll keeps showing for every save, until the expedition is completed with your latest "roll" / "random" seed. maybe it's something that can be worked around via a mod or save editor. but figured i should pass this insight on to anyone else who was curious.
I'm looking for a mod that will make base portals quiet. Idk why but they are so loud it bothers me. I have to build them away from my base or that's all I can hear!
Its probably part of a custom default save, but I would warn you that tampering with it is more often than not, very problematic. Nothing stopping you from trying though

you cant just get an S-class settlement
if i'm reading that right, you're working on improving a settlement to reach s class, not finding one at s class. if so, then i'd suggest just sticking with normal regular activities. mine would fluctuate between b and s as i undertook various debt-incurring projects. so: keep building more structures, pay down debt, improve happiness, and s will come.

mine was bad for a while, and then as debt cleared it went from c to b. (i worked on debt first.) as happiness improved it would occasionally go to s, then back. once happiness got up higher, it stayed s. never once saw it say class a, interestingly.
GSound might have a silencer for that. If not, let me know and I'll look for it.
It's apparently also tied to your Steam account name (assuming you are using Steam). If you keep changing your name, it will change the seed on the items. Once you get what you want and save it, you can change your account name back to what it was before.
@vale iron got a mod idea for you - we run into someone whose destination is trapped inside a volcano or a megaflora every few days. how about a mod to shrink those (or disappear those) so that someone can load the mod temporarily and do what they need to do?
@vale iron That idea above is actually very do-able. Just make a lua that swaps all of the "collidewithplayer" (or w/e tf the var name is) swap from T to F.
I used to do it for medium shrubs in my biomes mods along with making the megaliths destroyed by ship

Its the simplest/most effective way I can think of to fulfil weasel's request
It could allow a player to basically enable noclipping to get to their important destination that has been placed somewhere unfortunate, then uninstall the mod later without scrambling trees or changing the biome types or anything
Unfortunately there are quite a few of these files, but I think a lua approach could probably take a bat to this particular problem pretty quick
@hushed bronze Gotcha. Would it be everything with the OBJECTS or OBJECTSULTRA suffixes? That would probably be overkill, but with a LUA it wouldn't be that hard to do, like you said.

yeah basalt refines to silica - it's something like 50% silica by weight
i was also thinking of implementing it in more interesting ways, namely exploring its use in rock wool, but i dont know where i could put that
basalt fibre is neat honestly like, it's incredibly flame-resistant and also super sturdy

I had actually looked into shrinking volcanoes a few weeks back, by looking at an existing volcano enlarger mod - but there wasn't an included lua so I just left it.
Changing scales will probably reshuffle their whole placement pattern, destructibility (by mining laser) could be a fine option
The OBJECTS files in biomes only apply to biome related objects, being rocks, trees, shrubs, etc. You're not testing things like trade stations and ships are you?
now, i'm nowhere near as familiar with these guts as you guys, but i would be truly surprised if changing the scale of objects changes how the game distributes them

It would possibly change how the objects interact, because some have functions like "do not place close to others" for example.

I used the vortex installer.
The disable mods text file was called ENABLEMODS.TXT when I first looked in the folder at all so I left it alone.
I made sure my mods were both installed and enabled in the vortex program.
I double-checked in the PCBANKS folder and the mod's .pak file is in there like the manual instructions say...

If you know where to find those, that would be helpful to make it more complete. I tested a volcano and a couple of other non-scannable items and they seemed good. Exo was right about scaling moving things around, so I left that out. Here are the LUA and PAK if you want to test it.

You can unpack the mod with AMUMSS to get all the LUA scripts, then either modify or delete what you don't want, then pack it up again with AMUMSS
Was playing around with the save editor on a play around save, messing with ships of course, accidentally installed 2 photon cannons which turned the photon cannon into basically a faster infra knife with no heat buildup. After cackling like a twisted child with glee, I doubled up the rest of the weapons and I will say this, don't ever do it to the shotgun weapon. Blanks out the screen and glitches it. Works fine with cyclotron, infraknife, and photon cannons so far. Doubles fire rate, damage, and heat dispersion. If you needed to know, you know now lol
is there a plan to make this easier instead of unpacking and packing again?
There's no way to make it any easier than that, that I know of. The fact that it is possible at all is nice 🙂

Guys I just downgraded my Steam version of NMS to Foundations but my controller doesn‘t work properly anymore. I tried to change the configuration to an old one in steam but it reverts to the latest one at startup. Can anyone help?

Try uploading/saving you steam controller config? It may still be tedious to re-apply it every time you boot but it should at least be better than manually rebuilding the whole config every time

I tried it out; walked and flew through a volcano. there are some weird visual artifacts, naturally, but the point here is to make the volume inside accessible, which it does.
I don't even recognize some of the other objects in the list that are similarly made permeable. 😆
I later tried a few other large terrain objects and clipped through those as well. cool. I certainly didn't spend much time testing, but given it only needs to work for a couple minutes, i think it's plenty good enough.

It's always recommended to virus scan files before running them though.
I ran the exe through Virustotal and it only has one detection from webroot as adware

most of those mods will not affect FPS. the "DUD" ones won't for sure.
those settings would melt my PC as I get 1-2fps. It's a hard question to answer unless there is some kind of idea what PC you have, everything you're running on the PC, how several services are configed etc. etc.
I can't really comment on the settings and that hardware. I have nothing close.
But yeah, that mod is my first suspect for that reason. Might have to change some settings to compensate for the mod.

No. There are terrain mods that change where a particular “base” level is but in the end there is still a base. Certain planets will have more or less terrain voxels including flat areas that are on top of the “base”. You should try on several different planets to dig down and see how deep it is in that planet at that location. You might find one that is deep enough for your base. Understand though that the terrain you remove for the base will regenerate at some point.

graphics is a broad term that has almost no meaning other than things on your screen
but the former is a water shader mod and the latter is a proc gen colour mod

It should be ok, just be ready to use your jetpack in case you spawn in midair or underground

Edit: I moved the mod files out of the MODS folder and loaded the vanilla game, saved, quit to desktop, then moved each mod file back into the MODS folder one at a time, testing the game each time. All is well now. Hopefully this helps someone else.

Should I wait for the save editors to update before using any, or was the most recent update minor enough to edit other things without breaking something else?

Currently they are buried into the grass, but once I finish what edits I intend to make, then Babscoole will build a LUA for update, and the lua will include a blanket edit that makes those tiny accessory bits big enough to get back above the standard grass coverage. Im not doing that right now because it would be 2,000 manual edits for me, 5 minutes work for a lua master

If the mods are QoL stuff and not things that would hypothetically disappear if the mods disappeared (over 6 pet slots for example if that's a thing) but QoL stuff like silo snap or easier wiring I'd imagine just temporarily disabling then would work and you can keep playing

For some things like stacked items they get "cut" down to the pre-stack mod size when the mod is removed, so may lose resources that way

Until and unless HG gives us proper modding tools, any functionality which the game itself doesn't have cannot be added via mods. We can only tweak and adjust existing features.

Question for someone that knows about unlocking previous expedition rewards:
My understanding is the rewards can be edited into a save or a mod can be used to unlock them or there is some way to edit them into GCUSERSETTINGS?
Question is: These methods will allow me to claim things on a particular save, but will not make them truly "unlocked" and available across any new save that I don't edit because the actual unlock is per account and saved on HG servers.....is this correct?
In other words there is no way to unlock them per an account right?

Expedition rewards can be edited in the new account.hg file. I think twitch rewards can be, but there's still some kind of server side check on those. Check the menus in NMSSE and you'll find the account editor.
There's the NMSMV which can definitely view them, or Blender with NMSDK. They are all stored in one file, so you have to dig around and turn off the parts you don't want. Also NMSDK isn't completely up to date, so you might have issues

If you do use NMSDK, It may be worth just matching up the NMSDK's last version with the correct NMS version for that time. Just porting a ship, the exotics haven't changed designs in years
That's to say, if NMSDK was last updated for 3.2, find a copy of 3.2 game files and skip the whole issue of fighting with version compatibilities

Mod suggestion (not sure if it already exists or not): better star filtering in the galaxy map, such as:
-the ability to search based on economy tier
-the ability to search based on presence of water
-the ability to combine filters (such as Gek + water + economy tier 3)
I'm not sure if this is really a modding question, but I'm also not sure if it's a help question either. In my main (Normal mode, PC) save, the personal refiner is glitched - it can't be charged up. My thought is there's something in the save file that's the problem, because on my last Expedition save, the refiner works perfectly. Any thoughts on where to look?

Is it possible to have more than one instance of the game installed at once, with their own saves? I want to be able to easily switch between modded and vanilla, where each have their own, separate saves.

best you can do is a virtual sandbox
vm a win 10/linux and install the game within it
I mean you can just get both the Steam and GoG versions
But can you change the default save file location?
I'll look into the gog idea; I don't mind buying the game again
